Very cool! I have thought "when the time comes will I be able to change the starter" - I have to get to mine through the hell hole but I think it is doable. I am definitely going to look at this option when the time comes! Thanks for the video.
Man thats amazing you are building out this old bus the way you are. Ive been building out my 30 foot holiday rambler with the 38 seer minisplit and 1850 watts of solar panels. Having a mobile off grid home isnt understood by most my family or even society but to those that get it... we get it. Thanks for the videos they help me alot
I enjoyed the ownership of your "possible" contributions to the cause of the original starters demise. The motors on the high torque starters have to spin much faster which is why they whine like that. All the best, RL
Hi, I was wondering what the part is that you push in to shut off the bus at the end of the video. Mine is kind of stuck, but I can't figure out what it's called to learn more about it!
Super helpful video! I have a 1989 MCI 102c3 (6v92). I believe we have the same engine? I'm currently looking to replace my starter, and am wondering if a 39MT 24V would fit. Looks like maybe it will!
The fuel pressure switch is there primarily to allow the safety shutdown override to work when safety shutdown is activated. It disengages the starter when fuel pressure is detected so you can move the bus by holding the start button to override the shutdown without the starter continuing to rotate. This allows you to get the bus off the highway and to a safe location in the event your shutdown is activated by overtemp, low oil pressure, etc. You probably don't want to eliminate it. That being said, mine's been jumpered for years because those switches are crap! .
I'm glad that worked. You had me going for a while with that little baby starter Haha! I think the over crank protection is a limit on how long the starter can be engaged or a protection on overheating. What is the part number of that starter, if you don't mind?
I may have burnt the box last night. When I search on google for “Mitsubishi 24v starter for 6v92” the one that comes up with 3 bolt holes looks like it. I may have overpaid, but I like having a local shop to work with.

I guess the mt39 starter worked… or whatever it’s called😄
Glad you got it fixed. Thanks for sharing

Yeah, sometimes you gotta march to the beat of your own drummer. Welcome!

I’m glad someone did :-) Cost me some but I find the lessons that sting tend to stick better for me.
I put a MT39 gear reduction starter on our MC8 and it works great!!! Thanks!!!
I’m finally catching on to what all the cool kids are doing. Thanks for the view.

Hahahaha that new starter sounds like the one in my wife's Chevy Equinox.
