The Blacks are charsimatic and sympathetic people, but they also give a fuck about the common people (Daemon cleansing King's Landing, Daemon murdering a servant to substitute Laenor and Rhaenyra being fine with it, Rhaenys crushing the Sept with her dragon), they give a fuck about the customs of the natives and instead dab in neovalyrianism and fire & blood and are out for war & conquest & glory, and they care a lot about their "special" blood. The Greens are shrewd and manipulative, but are the better option for the common people. Otto Hightower is responsible for the rule of two peaceful King, he didn't sell out his child spy, he agrees to stop the child fight arenas, Alicent pays out the girl raped by her son and gives her access to abortion and comforts her, they are natives well embedded in the customs and traditions of the realm such as the Faith of the Seven, which is basically the church, while the Fire & Blood stuff of the Targs, well what was Stannis daughter's name? Poor girl... And well Alicent's sons. have all the bad traits of Blacks and Greens but none of their good. But yeah the show wants to manipulate you into rooting Team Rhaenyra by highlighting what manipulative leech Otto is as a person, while downplaying his agenda that is more told in small scenes and symbolism (like the Faith symbols replacing the Targ iconography over the timeskip), while also downplaying stuff like all the murders Daemon does after the cleansing and besides Vaemund, like Craghas Drahar (hinted to have been brutal by his mutilated corpse, yet the actual fight is offscreened), his wife Rhea Royce (downplayed as in never gets mentionend again after the wedding/ consequences not yet played out), the Velaryon servant (so quick you are only supposed to catch what was actually going on when Laenor and Qarl are revealed to be on a boat at the end of the episode). This is far more intriguing than Thrones has ever been and is definitely worth a second watch before Season 2 releases. :)
I'm with Daemon here. You can't make 'offers' to the legitimate HEIR and pretend that they should accept or be grateful for such 'offers'. Rhaenyra doesn't need an offer. The throne is originally hers and she doesn't need to accept anything. Daemon is absolutely on point.

"Conspiring" is a rather strong word. Every single person person in the Red Keep is conspiring to one degree or another. From the time of its construction by Aegon to the time of its destruction by Dany. The Great Council proved that Westeros was/is in no way shape of form ready for any kind of female leadership. The only reason its ever entertained is due to their possession of dragons to stop dissent. It doesn't matter if its misogynistic, from antiquity to present day it was/is almost exclusively males who fought and died on the battlefield and thus male leaders had the loyalty of the armies. Crowns, oaths, and gold don't inherently give you power: soldiers, steel, and blood do. It's the same thing here. Even Dany would never have made it out of the Dothraki Sea without her dragons and thats a truth people just have to deal with. The ONLY time Daemon is right is when he says "Dreams didn't make us kings, Dragons did." The dream may have saved them from the doom but it was Balerion the Black Dread and its siblings that put the 7 kingdoms to heel.

Otto is not really worse than Daemon, he is just more underhanded while Daemon is more flamboyant with his bad deeds. Both of them are power hungry evil people they hate each other because they are much alike. I think Daemon is worse since he is more impulsive and pettier( he tried to cripple Otto's son in the tournament by cheating and atacking his horse's legs just to spite Otto). Daemon is also more sadistic and enjoys using violence (when he slaughtered people in the streets and killed Vaemond) while Otto is more indiferent to its use, he prefers not to use it but when he does he has no empathy for his victims( when he executed the lords who stayed loyal to Rhaenyra).

Bending the rules to give the throne to Aemond when Aegon already has kids of his own who are in front of Aemond in the line of sucession would destroy whatever image of legitimacy the greens had. They had to crown Aegon. Aemon was a maester and therefore could use his vows to refuse the throne and he had no children to follow him.
Let's say Daemon and Rhaenyra were crazy enough to take the offer and surrender. They and their children would've been slaughtered the second they set foot in King's Landing. Can't convince me otherwise, especially when Otto was all for murdering Rhae and her family since the King's death. And the irony of all this is that for years Otto and Alicent projected their fears of kinslaying to gaslight their family into hating Rhaenyra and her kids.
Agreed. Rhaenyra wouldn't have done anything to her half-siblings as long as they didn't openly contest her claim to the throne and even then, she'd probably have preferred to exile them to the Night's Watch or the Faith rather than kill them.

Otto definitely didn't murder Baelon based on his behavior with Viserys, and I don't think he would have murdered Rhaenyra's babies either. Killing babies is a moral taboo in Westeros and the Hightowers are pious, they aren't the Cleganes lol nor do they dwell in fire and blood. Great acting by Matt Smith - showing Daemon being unable to stand still, constantly clutching his weapons, glancing over to Rhaenyra to see if (Gods forbid) she'll take the offer. He's mellowed with age, but he's still got that rage in him.

Otto had Lord Caswell murdered to prevent a war. Cole murdered Lyman Beesbury, who was 76 years old and would have kicked the bucket next week anyways, granted Cole is a psycho. But Otto is certainly not Tywin Lannister, who annihilated House Castamere, who did the Red Wedding in cahoots with the Freys and Boltons, who had the Hound and the Mountain and various other lapdogs raze the country. Tywin was a Tyrant, Otto is a scheming dick who is very power-hungry for the standing of his house but is otherwise a leftist politically that wants to rule with peace and all bellys fed, and all conflicts under his control in the Red Keep. You have to watch the show again to understand it properly, this is not about villains vs heroes, it is about charismatic, progressive but ruthless Targs vs shrewd and conservative but kind Hightowers, who in their scheme accidently raise Targ children only inheriting the bad qualities from either side (poor Helaena aside), and then, well we see that play out in the show...
This show is so good playing with our frustration it’s incredible. Like when you know that Alicent would have respected Viserys’ wish that Rhaenyra becomes queen if she didn’t misunderstand his last words… Also when you see that Aemond didn’t want Vaghar to kill Lucerys and it’s kind of an accident. The whole dance of dragons started this way (or at least in the show) and it’s this whole frustration that makes it so good !

Aemond acts all tough and scary, but he is in reality a very poor guy trapped in the stories of glory and conquest he's been reading as a kid all while getting bullied for not having a dragon. Aemond is stuck in his own fantasy, that's why he dresses up like edgelord air pirate sky rider. He thinks he is a conqueror and has to intimidate others as that lies within his nature, but its actually just method acting gone wrong.
So, going back to 1x09 Alicent says she wants to offer Rhaenyra "true terms so she may accept without shame." The funny thing is, this is actually a decent deal on paper. (And before anyone comes for me, I said ON PAPER). Rhaenyra doesn't ascend the Iron Throne, but she and her kids' lives would continue similar as before. But that's the kicker. Rhaenyra doesn't GAIN anything from this deal either. Nothing to sweeten the pot or help lessen the sting of having the crown stolen out from under her. Obviously there's nothing Team Green can really offer that can truly compensate, but beyond the promise of pardons and "places of honor" for her and Daemon's sons, they're not offering anything she doesn't already have. No offers of gold, lands, castles, marriages or even empty titles. Plus let's be real. Little Aegon and Viserys would become hostages in all but name. Best case scenario would have them married to Aegon II and Helaena's kids to try to combine the claims, but a just as likely outcome is some "unfortunate accident" with the plausible deniability of "oh no, the kids with a claim to the throne arguably better than Aegon II have tragically fell down a flight of stairs. Anyway." Like, ALICENT wants peace, but Otto and Larys aren't above pulling something like this. Just a fun detail I wanted to point out.
Well to be honest, taking the deal would ensure the survival of their House and their own lives (possibly). Neither the blacks, nor the greens understood that it's not really about yourself, it's about the survival of your house and the realm. How they could not see that the Hightowers were pitting them against each other is beyond me. It is obvious, even under Viserys' rule. Viserys even realized it himself, that's why he dismissed Otto. But it still was a pretty bad offer. One that doesn't even address the elephant in the room: the dragons. I think that no surrender would have ever worked if they didn't give up their dragons. Which Daemon certainly never would. If the surrendering side gets to keep their dragons, they are too much of a threat to the Iron Throne.
That's a VFX model from episode 2 they still used. It was to save costs. Syrax will be bigger next season when they have more money. Cause She would have to be for the story to make sense.

He's got more firepower, more money, way more church support, and better advisors than Aegon the Conqueror did so that's something. If you ripped off the crown from his head he probably would be happy or just not care. Sunfyre might eat you though. My point is that even the most pathetic Targaryens (Pretty much all of them after Aegon I) have something going for them: privilege. I'd mess with them after their dragons became dead.

@@Funtimesuntime3 What I meant by that is more dragons. More dragons means you can reign fire down in different places. If you are an army and you go up against Balerion or Sunfyre the outcome will be the same. You are equally screwed as they are both adult dragons. At some point extra size doesn't add anything but more dragons always will. Dragons like Verrmax and Arrax are too small however and they certainly wouldn't be able to take out great armies by themselves.

See lots of debates on this of supporters of the Greens or Blacks. Just remember that in the end the history would be best defined by the Hour of the Wolf under Cregan Stark. They did great with Daemon, I hope Cregan gets just as good an actor.
This isn’t much of an offer at all. The Greens offer Rhaenyra Dragonstone, which she already posses, and to recognise Luke as heir to Driftmark, something that’s already been settled twice, and are asking for two of her sons as hostages with none in return, and to top it off, they sent Otto, probably the worst person besides Aegon himself, who is despised by both Daemon and Rhaenyra, to make the offer. It’s bafflingly bad diplomacy.
Those are high position considering they are fourth and fifth children of rhaenyra and have been sired by her uncle. Eventually they could have been used for marriages to stregthen the targaryens hold over westeros.they would be princes of the blood and dragon riders, any lord would be happy to have them as good sons.
Rhaenyra and Daemon conspire to murder children next season. They even murdered an innocent guy *this* season while finding someone to take the role of Laenor's corpse so he could leave to Pentos. This show has clearly demonstrated that both teams are not above evil acts to further their own goals. Sorry that's too much for your childlike mind to handle. Maybe stick to fairy-tales and babies' shows where good and evil are very clearly defined and never deviate. The whole point of this show is to explore the depths people will go to when they believe themselves infallible and right, and the lies they tell themselves so they can avoid the true horror of their actions. Somehow, the first time around I missed how Otto just casually tried to depose the entire Velaryon line by handing Driftmark over to Daemon and Rhaenyra's son. Not even to their first son together, but to their youngest, which has to be some kind of extra insult to Corlys.
I think you misheard friend. Otto says that Lucerys will inherit Driftmark and all the lands and holdings of house Velaryon. Aegon, the younger and Viserys are to be the king's squire and cupbearer. But yes, the way Otto says "Lucerys" sounds a little like "Viserys"
After rewatching this, I never realized that Daemon hits Otto with his “let’s end this mumace farce” line. A line Otto had first said to daemon the time they met on the bridge episodes earlier.
I just peeped he didn't offer anything for Joffrey. I've watched this scene so many times and he didn't have anything for Joffrey. If anything Joffrey should've been offered to squire because he's much older than Aegon the younger. I guess Joffrey is the is the Daeron of Rhaenyra's faction lol.

I mean the way Otto thinks all of Rhaenyra's kids especially Jace and her two with Daemon need to go solely to protect Aegon's crown. Assuming she took the deal by the time Jace was in his 20s Vermax would probably be the size of Seasmoke if not bigger, he would have made connections across the realm and would have been trained extensively by the best warriors like Daemon for years. Add the fact everyone even the high lords like the Starks, Arryns, Tullys, and possibly even the Baratheons liked him when he was just a kid can you imagine how much they would like him when he was an adult. Basically, had Rhaenyra accepted this deal for whatever reason in 5 to 10 years after Jace would probably get pushed by people like Daemon to claim the throne because of how terrible Aegon would have been as King. This means there would have been a civil war anyway unless Otto could kill him before that.
The audacity to attempt to present such a mere offer, daemon should’ve taken Otto’s head for not even mentioning an eventual heir even tho their the sworn rightful heir smh
So I have not read the books or know too much world lore but the fact that the word "Hightower" does not appear in Game of Thrones I have a good bet on who is going to make proposals at the end of the war.

I can't be the only one who realizes that Otto calls Rhaenyra by the wrong name twice... even the awful captioning says he said Princess Ramirez (it definitely sounds as though he said Rhaemyra, and the captions bear that out.) That's a fairly big mistake to let get all the way to the final cut, especially as Rhaenyra is the absolute main character that the story revolves around -- and he does it twice in one scene. It was probably the biggest error of S1, at least in my opinion.
That deal is insulting (I'd probably tell Otto to eff off too) ... but not necessarily a bad one in the long term. *IF* Rhaenyra and her descendants could guard against the inevitable Green plots against them, the Blacks would increasingly control the vast majority of dragon breeding in Westeros. js.
If I had a dragon and landed where the queen did. I’d say “all kneel before your queen or burn” if they kneeled I’d still burn them cause I have a dragon and who’s going to say no? I would’ve then gathered every possible dragon rider and hit Kings Landing hard capture my siblings and end all this fuckery. But no they want to play the Game of Thrones. Two acts of reckless abandon might have ended this whole war. 1. Syrax should have killed Otto and the knights here. 2. Meleys should have incinerated the Greens at Aegon's coronation. That would have ended the usurpation there and then. And Rhaenyra then would have ruled as queen, Lucerys ruled Driftmark, and have Jacerys as heir apparent, with Aegon III second in line. Then instead of everyone dying in the end, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, and Jace/Luce would all be alive.
Sometimes i think that Rhaenyra gave dragon eggs to jace and luke instead this why she didn't ask them tk claimed Verminthor and Silverwing, as they were already full grown and riderless, with this they were difficult to defeated.

1:27 How did Rhaenyra dismount her dragon so quickly? It would appear physically impossible with no ground to the sides. The only ways I can imagine are extremely inelegant and unbefitting of a queen, such as sliding down the neck, which is dangerous. The only way I can think of to safely get off that dragon so quickly is for the dragon to pick her up in it's mouth and gently place her on the ground. But she'd be covered in dragon saliva. Not very regal. And not something we saw. I assume that there is no answer, it's an oversight. But I noticed it immediately the first time I watched this scene and I went back and checked if there was any indication. No, she just teleports off of the dragon, with the camera angles deliberately accommodating this. This must have been a deliberate creative decision, and I don't like it.

Aegon was a drunk mass rapist who had hundreds of bastard children fighting in the pits. Not to mention he never even wanted to be King and he made that clear over and over again. Besides, the Kings word is law. Viserys wanted his daughter as Queen. All those that went against that oath are the real traitors plain and simple.
One of the worst scenes in the entire series. How Otto Hightower was allow to leave Dragonstone is beyond comprehension. The fact he even when there made no sense as he would surely must have know that at best he would be taken captive and at worst, Dragon feed. Both Daemon and Rhaenyra know that he could never be trusted and likely to be the main person behind Ageon's accession.
Because Otto came as a diplomat. It wouldn't be good for your side to kill a diplomat no? The damage it would do to the reputation of the blacks far outweighs the benefits of having Otto killed because even if they have won, they would have that stain on their name. That action might even detract support for the blacks from the houses that are still hesitant to pick a side.

The Blacks are charsimatic and sympathetic people, but they also give a fuck about the common people (Daemon cleansing King's Landing, Daemon murdering a servant to substitute Laenor and Rhaenyra being fine with it, Rhaenys crushing the Sept with her dragon), they give a fuck about the customs of the natives and instead dab in neovalyrianism and fire & blood and are out for war & conquest & glory, and they care a lot about their "special" blood.
The Greens are shrewd and manipulative, but are the better option for the common people. Otto Hightower is responsible for the rule of two peaceful King, he didn't sell out his child spy, he agrees to stop the child fight arenas, Alicent pays out the girl raped by her son and gives her access to abortion and comforts her, they are natives well embedded in the customs and traditions of the realm such as the Faith of the Seven, which is basically the church, while the Fire & Blood stuff of the Targs, well what was Stannis daughter's name? Poor girl...
And well Alicent's sons. have all the bad traits of Blacks and Greens but none of their good.
But yeah the show wants to manipulate you into rooting Team Rhaenyra by highlighting what manipulative leech Otto is as a person, while downplaying his agenda that is more told in small scenes and symbolism (like the Faith symbols replacing the Targ iconography over the timeskip), while also downplaying stuff like all the murders Daemon does after the cleansing and besides Vaemund, like Craghas Drahar (hinted to have been brutal by his mutilated corpse, yet the actual fight is offscreened), his wife Rhea Royce (downplayed as in never gets mentionend again after the wedding/ consequences not yet played out), the Velaryon servant (so quick you are only supposed to catch what was actually going on when Laenor and Qarl are revealed to be on a boat at the end of the episode).
This is far more intriguing than Thrones has ever been and is definitely worth a second watch before Season 2 releases. :)

"Conspiring" is a rather strong word. Every single person person in the Red Keep is conspiring to one degree or another. From the time of its construction by Aegon to the time of its destruction by Dany. The Great Council proved that Westeros was/is in no way shape of form ready for any kind of female leadership. The only reason its ever entertained is due to their possession of dragons to stop dissent.
It doesn't matter if its misogynistic, from antiquity to present day it was/is almost exclusively males who fought and died on the battlefield and thus male leaders had the loyalty of the armies. Daemon is also more sadistic and enjoys using violence (when he slaughtered people in the streets and killed Vaemond) while Otto is more indiferent to its use, he prefers not to use it but when he does he has no empathy for his victims( when he executed the lords who stayed loyal to Rhaenyra).

Bending the rules to give the throne to Aemond when Aegon already has kids of his own who are in front of Aemond in the line of sucession would destroy whatever image of legitimacy the greens had. They had to crown Aegon. Aemon was a maester and therefore could use his vows to refuse the throne and he had no children to follow him.

Otto never murederd Viserys, despite all other Targ lines - Rhaenys', Rhaenyra's and Daemon's being out of the castle and Viserys being a walking corpse. The reason why Viserys doesn't voice out his suspicion of Otto murdering Baelon is because he knows it is BULLSHIT and Otto is his friend, but their trust has been destroyed and now the seeds of doubt are plagueing Viserys. Appendix infection is common cause of death for people of any age even nowadays if left untreated, we can treat it well now, but back then...
Otto definitely didn't murder Baelon based on his behavior with Viserys, and I don't think he would have murdered Rhaenyra's babies either. This show is so good playing with our frustration it’s incredible. Like when you know that Alicent would have respected Viserys’ wish that Rhaenyra becomes queen if she didn’t misunderstand his last words… Also when you see that Aemond didn’t want Vaghar to kill Lucerys and it’s kind of an accident. The whole dance of dragons started this way (or at least in the show) and it’s this whole frustration that makes it so good !

So, going back to 1x09 Alicent says she wants to offer Rhaenyra "true terms so she may accept without shame." The funny thing is, this is actually a decent deal on paper. (And before anyone comes for me, I said ON PAPER). Rhaenyra doesn't ascend the Iron Throne, but she and her kids' lives would continue similar as before.
But that's the kicker. Rhaenyra doesn't GAIN anything from this deal either. Nothing to sweeten the pot or help lessen the sting of having the crown stolen out from under her. Obviously there's nothing Team Green can really offer that can truly compensate, but beyond the promise of pardons and "places of honor" for her and Daemon's sons, they're not offering anything she doesn't already have. No offers of gold, lands, castles, marriages or even empty titles.
Plus let's be real. Little Aegon and Viserys would become hostages in all but name. Best case scenario would have them married to Aegon II and Helaena's kids to try to combine the claims, but a just as likely outcome is some "unfortunate accident" with the plausible deniability of "oh no, the kids with a claim to the throne arguably better than Aegon II have tragically fell down a flight of stairs. Anyway." Like, ALICENT wants peace, but Otto and Larys aren't above pulling something like this.

Well to be honest, taking the deal would ensure the survival of their House and their own lives (possibly). Neither the blacks, nor the greens understood that it's not really about yourself, it's about the survival of your house and the realm. How they could not see that the Hightowers were pitting them against each other is beyond me. It is obvious, even under Viserys' rule. Viserys even realized it himself, that's why he dismissed Otto.
But it still was a pretty bad offer. One that doesn't even address the elephant in the room: the dragons. I think that no surrender would have ever worked if they didn't give up their dragons. Which Daemon certainly never would.
If the surrendering side gets to keep their dragons, they are too much of a threat to the Iron Throne.
This is the great move, trapping them in the middle of the bridge. They can’t move forward or backwards because each side has death 🤎

He's got more firepower, more money, way more church support, and better advisors than Aegon the Conqueror did so that's something. My point is that even the most pathetic Targaryens (Pretty much all of them after Aegon I) have something going for them: privilege. I'd mess with them after their dragons became dead.

If you are an army and you go up against Balerion or Sunfyre the outcome will be the same. You are equally screwed as they are both adult dragons. At some point extra size doesn't add anything but more dragons always will. Dragons like Verrmax and Arrax are too small however and they certainly wouldn't be able to take out great armies by themselves.

The Greens offer Rhaenyra Dragonstone, which she already posses, and to recognise Luke as heir to Driftmark, something that’s already been settled twice, and are asking for two of her sons as hostages with none in return, and to top it off, they sent Otto, probably the worst person besides Aegon himself, who is despised by both Daemon and Rhaenyra, to make the offer.
It’s bafflingly bad diplomacy.

Those are high position considering they are fourth and fifth children of rhaenyra and have been sired by her uncle. Rhaenyra and Daemon conspire to murder children next season. They even murdered an innocent guy *this* season while finding someone to take the role of Laenor's corpse so he could leave to Pentos. This show has clearly demonstrated that both teams are not above evil acts to further their own goals. Sorry that's too much for your childlike mind to handle. Maybe stick to fairy-tales and babies' shows where good and evil are very clearly defined and never deviate. The whole point of this show is to explore the depths people will go to when they believe themselves infallible and right, and the lies they tell themselves so they can avoid the true horror of their actions. You've played right into that by actually being dumb enough to pick a "team", cause now you're gonna have to justify what they are going to do in this show in order to stay pure so much that the hypocrisy will twist you into pretzels and you're gonna end up sounding like a pretty bad person if you take it too seriously. I think you misheard friend. Otto says that Lucerys will inherit Driftmark and all the lands and holdings of house Velaryon. Aegon, the younger and Viserys are to be the king's squire and cupbearer. But yes, the way Otto says "Lucerys" sounds a little like "Viserys"

I mean the way Otto thinks all of Rhaenyra's kids especially Jace and her two with Daemon need to go solely to protect Aegon's crown. Assuming she took the deal by the time Jace was in his 20s Vermax would probably be the size of Seasmoke if not bigger, he would have made connections across the realm and would have been trained extensively by the best warriors like Daemon for years. Add the fact everyone even the high lords like the Starks, Arryns, Tullys, and possibly even the Baratheons liked him when he was just a kid can you imagine how much they would like him when he was an adult.
Basically, had Rhaenyra accepted this deal for whatever reason in 5 to 10 years after Jace would probably get pushed by people like Daemon to claim the throne because of how terrible Aegon would have been as King. This means there would have been a civil war anyway unless Otto could kill him before that.
Dracarys would have ended this quickly.

I can't be the only one who realizes that Otto calls Rhaenyra by the wrong name twice... even the awful captioning says he said Princess Ramirez (it definitely sounds as though he said Rhaemyra, and the captions bear that out.)
That's a fairly big mistake to let get all the way to the final cut, especially as Rhaenyra is the absolute main character that the story revolves around -- and he does it twice in one scene.
It was probably the biggest error of S1, at least in my opinion.

Two acts of reckless abandon might have ended this whole war. 1. Syrax should have killed Otto and the knights here. 2. Meleys should have incinerated the Greens at Aegon's coronation. That would have ended the usurpation there and then. And Rhaenyra then would have ruled as queen, Lucerys ruled Driftmark, and have Jacerys as heir apparent, with Aegon III second in line. Then instead of everyone dying in the end, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, and Jace/Luce would all be alive.

1:27 How did Rhaenyra dismount her dragon so quickly? It would appear physically impossible with no ground to the sides. The only ways I can imagine are extremely inelegant and unbefitting of a queen, such as sliding down the neck, which is dangerous. The only way I can think of to safely get off that dragon so quickly is for the dragon to pick her up in it's mouth and gently place her on the ground. But she'd be covered in dragon saliva. Not very regal. And not something we saw.
I assume that there is no answer, it's an oversight. But I noticed it immediately the first time I watched this scene and I went back and checked if there was any indication. No, she just teleports off of the dragon, with the camera angles deliberately accommodating this. This must have been a deliberate creative decision, and I don't like it.

One of the worst scenes in the entire series. How Otto Hightower was allow to leave Dragonstone is beyond comprehension. The fact he even when there made no sense as he would surely must have know that at best he would be taken captive and at worst, Dragon feed. Both Daemon and Rhaenyra know that he could never be trusted and likely to be the main person behind Ageon's accession.
Because Otto came as a diplomat. It wouldn't be good for your side to kill a diplomat no? The damage it would do to the reputation of the blacks far outweighs the benefits of having Otto killed because even if they have won, they would have that stain on their name. That action might even detract support for the blacks from the houses that are still hesitant to pick a side.
