Hi Sue I am not a red lip girl tbh - I just never feel it looks right on me. I have small features including a smaller mouth (despite all the noise I manage to make out of it) and a bright or dark lip makes it look even smaller. I still have relatively full lips and a defined cupids bow, but I have small features in a rounder face and look better in more muted shades. I have worn a red lip balm before and it can work ok, but only because it's very sheer and not too overly bright. I'm no wallflower (so it's not about confidence), it's just not feeling as though it suits me. You also have to remember how starkly pale/cool toned I am, with grey eyes and ashier blonde hair (shot through now at 51 with white threads) - reds are such a huge contrast to my own colouring. My natural lip tone is a pinky mauve (a real purple undertone in there), so MLBB shades are in that colour family. I also have rosacea and am constantly battling redness in my skintone, so red seems to make it more obvious. I know there is supposed to be a red for everyone, but as with many other things I'm not falling into that majority unfortunately. I love red lipstick on other people and think it looks great on many of my friends, but it's really not for me. I think you look great in red btw. A big tip for anyone who does want to try a sheer/balmy red is to use a pore filling primer around the lips, to help stop bleeding into vertical lip lines (a clear lipliner can also help). best wishes.
Hi Loraine. Thank you for the tip on the primer. Lipstick bleeding is a reality and can be a pain depending on the formula of the lipstick. That's why I love the Mac Lustre glass range. It doesn't bleed on me. I understand your dilemma with your fair skin and rosacea. It's wise then to stick with colors that work best for you. Caroline Barnes has just done a video on red undertones. I need to still watch it to see how one can disguise the red. Thank you for your comment. Have a lovely day 🤗
@@Fifty-sense She did and I watched it. Her tips were not targeted at pale/cool toned skin unfortunately, featuring using warm tones in blush and lips to avoid highlighting any redness. I look worse in warm tones than I do with redness, so that’s not going to work for me. However if you are not really cool toned then it will. I’m not alone in saying under the video that the tones used wouldn’t work for cool complexions btw. In any case nice to see you back on youtube x
Love it, From MAC I have relentlessly red which has more pink on my skin tone. I have chilly-which I don't like planning to declutter it to MAC And also Red Rock which is towards the browns on my skin tone might also sent it back RubyWoo I gave ot away last year thought the color changed a bit over the years,it was my third bullet purchased ,for me its not the same. Obsessed with Revlons super lustrous lipsticks. Thank you ❤❤🌸🌸
You can't go wrong with the Superlustrous lipsticks. They are fab! I'm sorry that the Ruby Woo turned on you. It might be because it's old. I haven't heard of Red Rock. Am going to Google it! X
Ruby Woo looks so chic on you! Goes so well with the Marina top! I own about 6 reds, but don’t have a true red lipstick yet. I would love to get Cherries 🍒 In The Snow by Revlon (it’s a little bit sexy) and Fire&Ice by Revlon. Someone who bought Marilyn Monroe’s Max Factor lipstick 💄 from an auction said Fire&Ice is the best dupe for it! Bought HR Fire Opal when I was a teenager. My mum and the next door neighbor told me I looked like a circus clown 🤡 when I wear it. Ironically, now it looks good on me. The packaging and smell are pure luxury. Rum&Raisin looks like a rose brown color on UA-cam.
Hello lovely 😊. Fire & ice and cherries in the snow are both classics. Remind me what HR stands for? Helena Rubenstein? I need to Google the shade. Yes rum raisin is a rosy brown, spot on!
Yes, it’s Helena Rubenstein! The name Fire Opal exactly implies what the shade looks like. For some strange reason, I’m always tempted to sniff that lipstick 💄. Looks better on mature women. Some good things actually happen when we age. Lancôme do some beautiful rose/brown shades. They look good on cool toned complexions and are appropriate for work.
This is a great reference video. I think you chose your reds very well.
Thank you!
Thanks this is so useful. Interesting that all the varieties looked lovely on you. Some shades do me no favours I feel. This is a post to bookmark!
It really is trial and error to find the best one that works for you. It is out there! X
Great choices! Now I want to see them all in person, lol. I have Chanel Pirate and love it! It's my go-to dressy red lip.
It sounds magnifique! I'll have to look it up!

Hi Sue, Ruby Woo looks amazing on you. As does Rum Raisin. Back in the day, Revlon Raisin Rage was a go to for me.
Thank you Debra. I remember Raisin rage! I'm always drawn to lipsticks with Raisin in the name 😊

Sniffing a lipstick? Now I've heard everything! 😂😂💄🤗
A least I’ve only ever sniffed lipstick 💄……
