Lemon8 is one of the projects of Dutch DJ and producer Harry Lemon. In 1993 Harry released a track which he called “Model8”. The techno / minimal production that came out on Basic Energy, a sub-label of Rotterdam based Basic Beat Recordings, became a massive success in the dance scene. In 2006 it got re-released via Plus 8 Records, the label from Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva.
Later Harry also released other successful tracks such as “New York, New York”, “Bells Of Revolution” and the Bedrock classic “Lose Control”
I recently sat down with Harry in his studio, to ask him about the story behind “Model8”, his future plans and more.

Lemon8 had great records in the early 2000s, as a dj i bought almost all his records and still have them. Always admired Harry. I hope he's doing fine now and is able to pick up where he left off. Generally seems like a great guy.

What a lovely interview!! Very well done from Harry aswell. I could tell he was extremely nervous but i just love his personality and being a big fan of his music for years (in fact had the inner sanctuary session CD on repeat to help me through my schooldays was a big deal!!

Top interview weer Twan. Ik was een groot fan van diverse producties van Harry Lemon 8. Ik vind ook zijn producties heel goed in elkaar zitten en vol geluid! Ik hoop dat mensen nog eens luisteren naar al die classics. Mijn persoonlijke favorieten zijn 'Pressure' en zijn remix van Solid Session (waar je ook een interview van gedaan hebt)! Trouwens Twan goed dat je verschillende producers en stijlen onder de loep neemt! Grappig het verhaal van The Navigator track, want Harry Lemon heeft volgens mij later ook voor de toen jonge Ferry Corsten in ieder geval 1 remix gemaakt. Zij hebben allebei een Basic Beat verleden en zijn totaal een andere kant op gegaan! Ik ga zeker even kijken naar Harry's nieuwe materiaal, ik ben benieuwd!
Pressure is ook mijn persoonlijke favoriet! geweldige track! geweldige artiest👍
Quite the spiritual DJ/producer. He seems very modest but he should be proud of what he has achieved. I think I had the red vinyl of Model 8. Track still works today. A real crowd pleaser... Thanks for the interview, Twan.

I can't forget the song New York, New York ( Out Of The Sanctuary ), my favorite also Lemon8 - The Only Way (Original Mix) Progressive Masterpiece !
Harry Lemon is the most underrated remixer there is. His remix of Sanctuary is a classic for sure. He was even a DJ for ASOT 100. I wonder if Armin still reach out to Harry these days?
Totally underrated, you can see why... as he said, he likes music but not the business behind it... I'm the same... and I have a similar story... I'm sick of it and taking a spiritual break... I understand him so much...
i wouldnt say he is underrated. Especially in the progressive house scene the guy is a legend!
You can’t compare commercial guys like Armin with these icons who were there when the first techno sounds took over the clubs. Enjoyed it a lot as DJ to buy my records at Basic Beat and speak to him when he was there behind the counter or in the shop. Also listened to some nice setups at Nighttown. Great music history this man 👍🏻

Enjoyed this one so much!!! i recenty was listening to Harry's compilation Inner Sanctuary which was released in 2002 in label Basic Energy and I was really amazed for one more time how can he be so different and so exciting in his sound, his way of produtcion, and way of mixing, compilaton was recorded on vinyl and that's a special thing coz for me to hear this vinyl transitions is such a pleasure.
I love these interviews. If I could pick one I’d like to hear the story behind Magica “Magica” (Ibiza Remixxx) from 2000. A special track for me 🥰
Thanks so much! And since these interviews take a lot of time, I'm pretty picky when it comes to the interviews. I always try to focus on famous classics / big hits, so the interviews are (hopefully) interesting for a wider audience :)

@@pietjepukt6 He's on the wish-list, but he's from Italy and hardly has gigs in The Netherlands.... So not sure when / if this will ever happen, especially since now I don't expect any DJs from abroad to visit The Netherlands any time soon....
muzikxpress I understand. He fits very well because he’s a house music giant but on the other hand he lives abroad so lots of work to arrange.

I love his Tunnel Vision tune, very underrated. I first heard it on Rave Mission compilation.

@@wiseman9620 oh my interviews are always about originals, I don't do interviews about remixes etc, there's simply not enough I can ask about those, plus artists prefer to talk about their own originals. Just being honest! That's the concept of my UA-cam channel :)
And often people don't have the old project files anymore, some tracks were made like 25+ years ago, they changed equipment, lost files etc etc. Trust me, I've asked and often I get that answer. And I'm not a producer myself, so my focus is more about the stories behind the tracks and not really about the technical part, there's other channels that focus on that. I simply don't have enough technical knowledge to go in-depth about that. Thanks for your understanding!

Thanks so much! I'm not really familiar with Stage van H, so he's not really on my wish list tbh. I would love to do an interview with JX, but since this is "just" a hobby for me I don't have a travel budget. As far as I know JX doesn't DJ, so the chances of him visiting The Netherlands (where I'm based) are very slim..... Plus due to the pandemic I can only focus on people based The Netherlands since ther are no events :(

Is there a plan to do the interview with the most influental artist of all time and his masterpiece Netherworld, mr. Oliver LIeb? :)
I'm a big fan of Oliver Lieb, so he has been on my wish list for a long time. Last year I went to Frankfurt for a few days to record some interviews there, so I got in touch with Oliver to ask him for some interviews as well. But unfortunately he wasn't available. Hopefully once this pandemic is over, I will be able to get enough funds for another Frankfurt trip and I hope he will be available then. Fingers crossed!
