What actually happened to him?
I met Maxi Jazz at my work place once, he is really a humble guy, we had a great conversation about music and faithless etc , he even spoke about his mom. When it was time for him to go he took his phone out and we took a photo together !! The man is a living legend.
That's so cool! And yeah, he was super nice, very down to earth! Really took the time for me, such a nice guy! And what a voice, wow!

Holy crap, you just made me realize the last word of that line is "hurt". For 20 yrs I thought it was "hertz" as in to heal his frequency, his tone, his music... And it made sense in my head that I never bothered looking up the lyrics thinking I knew them! Mind blown!!!

Music has brought me closer to what I must interpret as a religious experience, than anything else in life. I think this song captures. that phenomenon quite well.

The thing that these interviews bring out is how humble and straightforward actual musicians are. You forget, with manufactured pop bands and artists who don't write their own music, what musicians are actually like. It's so refreshing.
Oh well said!!! That’s why I always try to look for people who make / write their own music. Sometimes people post suggestions for interviews while I know that does people are getting all their music produced by others.... Big fan of Faithless and Rollo’s work in general. Would love to interview him one day! Maxi Jazz was so nice and down to earth, what a great guy!

And you have a ton of people talking about "boomers", "millennials", "zoomers", and what not... and then you have Maxi Jazz, a GrandPop by now, which is beyond this generational crisis... If I play a song from them right now in 2022, it will sound just as good as it did when they made it...

@@RobJorg Of course it doesn't apply to every dude. Lifestyle takes another big part. Morgan Freeman is one of a kind. Also testosterone replacement is very common in Hollywood. If you don't have any testrosterone, your voice gets higher. That's the nature of the human body. Women with lot of testosterone have a deep voice. Soyboys or transgenders on the other hand can sound like a woman.

Just heard Maxi Jazz passed away today 12/24/2022. RIP legend 😢
He did pass away on December 23, but the news of his passing was announced on the 24th.
Broken... cried more to hearing of his passing than to actual family members. No joke.

Maxi Jazz is a legend, theres no more to say, working class hero. A lovely man, a deeply religious buddhist.
I was a bit nervous for this interview to be honest haha! I have been a massive Faithless fan since the start, so it was an honour for me to meet him and talk to him. He was super, super nice, very down to earth and humble. And he had great stories! So I'm still super happy about this one, what a legend!
He's a Buddhist ?
@@jamiewilliams685 he says so in the interview. He's a Nichiren Buddhist & a member of the Soka Gakkai International buddhist organisation, which has 12 million or so adherents worldwide. They're very much focussed on bringing about world peace, and they practise a chant as a form of meditation, "Nam Myōhō Renge Kyō" which means roughly "Glory to the Dharma of the Lotus Sutra". The Lotus Sutra is pretty fundamental to Mahayana Buddhism, a great work but its teachings are too much to go into fully here.
I am grateful to hear him talk. Before this interview I only knew Maxi Jazz / Faithless as great tunes from my youth - but this adds a whole new dimension to him as a person and musician.
Rest in peace Maxi Jazz... Your music inspired many generations and will inspire many more....

My opinion? God is a DJ = not everyone relates to the same God, but everyone can relate to music

Not many people these days know these artists. Kids these days are stuck with the crap played on air. To me, God is a DJ was something sensational back in the days. Today it sounds exactly the same. Brings up memories and feelings.
Takes me right back to my 20s clubbing the atmosphere when faithless tracks for played dam soo good times I miss so much 😢

I was 9 years old when I heard Faithless for the first time
and it was this one that I heard first, as my listening habits back then were predictably skatty. but as soon as I heard the likes of Insomnia, and the seminal We Come One, it all started to make sense.
GUTTED he's gone. Absolutely gutted!
I have been saying he is one of the best lyricists of the 21st century. So much simplicity, yet subversiveness and timelessness to the activist lyrics. And such a versatility of the topics lyrically approached, from the darkest nights of the soul to the most uplifting.

When the first records came on here in Belgium, the producer of 2 unlimited, had a record shop in Antwerp. And I was a weekly client, spend almost 100€ a month there, so we could listen private in the seller. But I asked him right away, who is this? And I want all their stuff in the coming years, and (JP) the manager, told us, relax boys, "it's already in your stash" so he was also convinced this project was "big" people asked me to play their records, a few months later. It's amazing how fast they came into the charts, especially in Belgium. For me, it was the haunting beat and bass, the anticipation in the overall song on point. Such songs don't bore, even 30 years later.
