Check out the exclusive interview I did with Ruud van Rijen, the founder and producer of Twenty 4 Seven, one of the most successful Eurodance acts of all time!
Ruud has always been a big fan of Ben Liebrand and the late Peter "Hithouse" Slaghuis. In 1998 Ruud released his first record; "Drivin' Force - Rock This World", a house track based on a lot of samples.
The Twenty 4 Seven story started almost 30 years ago; back in 1989, Ruud produced the hip hop track "I Can't Stand It", with raps by MC Fixx-It and a vocoder verse. Not long after that, a new version was made, where the vocoder was replaced with vocals by Nance. This hip-house version became a small success and it got the attention of BCM Records. They wanted to sign the track for the world, but with a different rapper; Captain Hollywood. And this version became a massive hit and it was even used in the movie "Dying Young" with Julia Roberts!
In the interview (which was recorded in Ruud's studio), he's telling everything about the history of Twenty 4 Seven, how both "I Can't Stand It" and "Slave To The Music" were born, what happened between Stay-C and Nance and more ...
    Enjoy and thanks for watching!

This was arguably the best one so far. Great anecdotes, some sad, some funny, some serious. Finished watching this smiling and thinking a) he is a top man and b) If I ever go a back to the Netherlands, I must see him in action as a DJ at a smaller venue.

My favorite track from him is ''The Castle - Elvis Has Left the building'', that was an answer to ''Interactive - Who is Elvis''
I just discovered today that ''The Castle'' was actually ''Twenty 4 Seven'' and i am surprised with that, as ''Elvis has left the building'' was a hard Belgian techno track from 1991, and it was one of my favorite Techno tracks of all times all these years, since the first time i heard it in 1992.
I still have ''Elvis has left the building'' on vinyl.

03:30 Interesting that the one group he mentions is KRAFTWERK. Because my favorite 24/7 remix of all times, the "Club Remix by Bruce Forest" if "I can't stand it" (and also the edited RADIO REMIX and the DUB REMIX), uses a sample of DIE ROBOTER by KRAFTWERK and I always loved that detail. I wonder if it was Ruuds idea back then to incorperate that into the remix, or that of the remixer Bruce Forest.

    • @DroopusTunes
      @DroopusTunes 4 місяці тому +1

Nice video, and a nice guy. I visited Ruud in his (home)studio in Eindhoven twice, in the early 90's, during the success of "Slave to the Music".
Fun facts I remember that are not mentioned: Nance sang the lyrics in the clothingroom, next to Ruud's studio on the 1st floor. A glass window was made between those two rooms. I still remember the ironingboard standing in that clothingroom, next to the microphone.
Also, I remember Ruud only used the snaredrum output of his Roland TR-909, as that was the only sound of it that he liked. I thought it was a pity for such a great drummachine.
Ruud borrowed me his Roland TB-303 Bassline then, as he didn't understand himself how it worked. It was my 1st experience with a TB-303, which was (and is) hard to program. And what I know, is that the guys from Egma ("Let The Bass Kick") hung around a lot at his studio.
Hope this is of any additional interest ;-)

Love this was a fan of " Twenty 4 Seven " 1994 the new version of I can't stand it " I got a 12inch Mix which was , only had Time to watch 10mins of the interview ,like the bit where he says I stole drum loop from " Mr Lee - Get Busy " the old " Bobby Byrd hot pants am coming am coming song of the JB's " James Brown Posse from 1972 , The Version as he says was remixed & sped up to suit the Hiphouse vibe even in 1994 it was still around but more Euro rather than the American hip hop dance music , hip hop drum samples got sped up & used in Hardcore Rave , I did hear the original version of " I can't stand it " in about 1990 just a cupple of Times it was pretty harder to keep an eye on The Records you wanted & where not always available in Record shops , I heard the version from 1990 in a HipHouse Rave mix with " The Deff Boys - swing to the music " " Debbie Malone - Rescue me " " Power Gen - I've Got The Power " the Remix from 1994 was Royalty in my Circle .a better grown up version & cleaned up for changing crowd ...

Just discovered your channel and I like it, Twan! Ruud van Rijen is an amazing man and it was nice to learn how Twenty 4 Seven and singles like "I can't stand it" came to be. Luckily, recently the original team of Captain Hollywood and Nance performed together again!
I hope you can interview a lot of other house/eurodance/trance artists. Personally I'd love to see an interview with the creators (or vocalists) of Snap!
Also an interview with CB Milton, Captain Hollywood, Jam el Mar (from Jam & Spoon and Dance 2 Trance), Real McCoy, Tania Evans (from Culture Beat) or La Bouche would also be awesome!
Also interesting would be Dutch rapper/vocalist Daisy Dee, she did a lot of vocals on various house and eurodance tracks back in the day. And since the dance/house scene accompanied with a lot of lipsync faces (especially in the 90's), I hope you can interview the creator of Cappella once and ask him who really did the vocals and raps in various tracks, because it's well-known Kelly O didn't sing and her replacement Allison Jordan could sing but not all her Cappella singles during her time were with her voice. And MC Fixx-it did some raps as well!
You see, I have a lot of wishes, but one can only dream! :-)
Keep going with these stories and interviews.

Thanks a lot Robbert! Glad you enjoy my channel! And yes, I noticed on Nance's socials she and the original Captain Hollywood team did a show together, super cool!
I have a lot (over 50 hehe) people on my "wish-list". But since this is just a hobby for me and since I don't make money with the vlog (advertising revenue is very, VERY minimal....) I have no travel budget for the vlogs. So I can only do interviews with peopel that live close to me, or people that visit for shows / performances close to me. So some of the artists you did mention are most likely not going to happen..... I spoke to Jam El Mar already and if I get enough Paypal donations, I'm planning a trip to Frankfurt, to interview some people that live there (or close to it), if I can make it all happen and if they all have time (and are interested of course, since not everybody wants to be interviewed either unfortunately), plus of course, I need to have time as well (doing this all in my spare time). But... I already spoke to some other Eurodance names earlier this year for possible interviews in 2020, hope this will happen, fingers crossed! Big fan of Eurodance myself as well, so it would be great to get some more names from that genre for my vlog. Stay tuned ;-)

Great interview! So he sacked Nance because her and stay-c got sick of each other?? I’ve always wondered something as a big fan of 24/7- in the music video for ‘is it love’ there’s a guy who smiles at and then chases a stunningly beautiful woman. My question is: is this woman played by Nance???? she looks completely different if it is her! Obviously her and stay-c are in the video singing the song. Do you know if Nance is also the woman being pursued by the man???

Thank you! :) And yes, the girl in the "Is It Love" video at the end is also Nance! Maybe I should try to get an interview with Nance, she lived in the town where I'm from and her parents live like a 3 minute walk away from me hehe

Scatman John, Robert Miles, Passion Fruit...

@@muzikxpress Ik snap 't helemaal hoor.
