During my stay in Los Angeles I had the honour to interview Felix about his massive house classic "Don't You Want Me", which came out in 1992. I spoke to Felix about what happened after the release, what he's most proud of, the production process of "Don't You Want Me", the amount of remixes of the track, plus much more!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Well done. Very nice guy, this mr. Felix. Really lovely to watch all documentaries and interviews with these great icons. As a local-radio dj it was very hard to keep track of all those releases back in the days. Especially since producers used multiple identities to publish their songs. Hearing these stories makes this amazing period in music more tangible.
Thanks Robert, more to come soon hopefully ;-)
5 years ago yeah
I so love when he pointed out that this track is near impossible to come up with a crowd pleaser remix because the original is just so exceptional catchy and brilliant you just can’t top that easily at all
One of the greatest house tracks ever!
That’s for sure!!
This is a bit off topic (although Felix and JX were both on Hooj Choons, so there's a connection of sorts) but I was so thrilled to discover Rex The Dog's 'Change This Pain For Ecstasy' last year. I thought, thank God people are still making music like this! 😍😍😍
One of the greatest tracks ever made, but Felix - It Will Make Me Crazy is his best work imo, one of the best tracks of the 90’s
Absolutely 100% I'm with you on that
Great track 💪
💯My favourite too
100%! I absolutely love "It Will Make Me Crazy" 🤘🏻👌🏻
I remember the first time i listened to this record.
My first thought was.. it has little dynamics.. it lacks high frequencies, perhaps it has some slight disharmony in the intonations, something that could be done better, i don't know what...
But as I listened to it, I realized that the only thing I could express was:
This record is actually perfect.
It goes directly into my heart, exactly because it is so.
Masterpiece..
I just turned 50 in Sept 2021. This was one of my favorites tracks to play in my Set when I Started as a DJ at the College Radio in UMAINE, back in 1992.
Mr Felix if you read this and remember this, 1992 you came into my record shop, (More Than Music) on the Blackfriars Road, 2 streets down from Hooj Choons), you and Jeremy came into the shop and I think just had the 12” pressed you gave me a copy to play as you just had it cut and wanted to hear it, IT BLEW ME AWAY, the rest is history.!🎹🏠💥
Chris Funky that’s so cool!!
@@muzikxpress it’s true. So every time I hear the track I remember this time and a few days/weeks later I had a tour of the Hooj Choons studio, was awesome
This song will always have a special place in my heart.
It takes me back to 1992 when I was 18, and I dedicate this epic track to my very first crush. The one who I could never have. Felix FOREVER !!
God bless !!
I was 14 .. and i feel you 😁❤
This was the sound of the era!!! Thank you for making this interview happened….this was good history ❤. Yes it made us all so happy on the dance floor
Thank you! This was my very first ever interview for Muzikxpress, pretty nervous but Felix is such a great guy! Super nice! Still very happy I was able to make this happen! 🙌🏻
Seems like a nice guy, and looks so much younger than I'd have expected!
Felix, I just want to THANK YOU! REALLY!
Although I am not a dance person THIS was a song that got me to dance!
PLEASE make another song with the POWER of "Don't You Want Me"!
Greetings from Greece!
Felix is from Chelmsford Essex ,and now lives in Los Angeles. Cool . I lived in Chelmsford for quite a while and also los Angeles. Well done Felix . Good on ya mate . Great stuff from an Essex boy.
Must be one of the best dance tracks of the '90s.
Has to be up there with:
- Moby - Go,
- Prodigy - No Good (start the dance),
- Bizarre In - Playing With Knives
- Candi Staton - You Got The Love
- Snap! - The Power
there are others !
I thought that Rollo would get a mention, as he was part of the duo that did this remix being played.
Hooj Choons ruled the 90's!!!!!
For sure, what an amazing label!!!
@@muzikxpress I used to go in my local record shop back in the late 90's and if i saw a new Hooj Choons record, i wouldnt even listen to it i would just buy it! Thats how good they were to me at least!!! Thanks for all your great videos my friend!!!
Yeah, quality stuff! I think I have 90% of their catalogue on vinyl/CD. And thanks Vincent, more videos to come soon!
Agreed. Back in the day where bedroom producers got paid in full...😉
Still my favorite track from the 90's.
Cool, one of my favorite tracks back then!
One of best tracks ever 🎉
I would love for him to know that this track was the last track played at Gatecrasher Millennium. 25,000+ people there in the arena.
I’ll never forget that. The place just changed when this came on. People had tears in their eyes, it was incredible.
I well-up just thinking about it.
Thank you, Felix. ❤❤
I still have the cd 🙂
Love this history. Surprised no one asked about the all-important Jomanda sample and why it was chosen.
Agreed!Jomanda were Amazing!one of the legendary and original femsle vocal trios…shame no mention of the girls
One of my first records that pushed me into dj'ing and making music. And this is the first time seeing the man Felix. Nice guy!
Oh wow, that is cool! And yes, he's super nice! Very down to earth and friendly guy. It was great to meet him! :)
Same here - together with the age of love from the same time my favorites until now. I have the deconstruction release. Will never sell :))))) Part of my life.
Don't you want me
What time is love
Age of love
Those 3 are timeless
I loved the sound of the 90s and miss it like crazy.
Thank you 👑👑👑 Felix and your talented heart for blessing the world with your talent.
Don’t you want me and It Will make me Crazy represents wonderful times and memories from the amazing 90s.
Can’t believe these Masterpiece were released 30 years ago. 😱😁
1992, Passion at Swansea uni, played by John Kelly. It blew the roof off!!!!!
Finally put a face to that name and looking good! Smashing track (Hooj) but I loved the Candy Girls harder remix that came out in 1995, absolute thumpin filth of a mix.
+1
That Candy Girls mix was amazing!!
i have that Pet Shop Boys Radio One takeover week he mentioned on tape somewhere :D
Wow, no way? If you find it, can you upload it to UA-cam maybe? That would be cool!
Me too, Felix, Age of love, Urban shakedown, Sasha, Good 2 bad Hughly , was a great time for music
@James Bloggs: That's an interesting part of history right there! Definitely worth going to the effort to look for it. (That is ...if you actually have it)
When this piece was released in Italy in the autumn of 1992, and I heard it for the first time, I meditated that it had a sonority that seemed to come from the past, almost from the 60s, at the time of the Hammond organs, but at the same time, it sounded like something of completely innovative and powerful.
Both on the radio and in the disco, this song was constantly in my head.
DUDE, YOUR CHANNEL RULES
Haha thank you very much! Hope you like the content, working on lots of new interviews, so there should be a lot more in the near future :)
Sick!
Here I am, almost 20 years later after the release watching the face behind the music.... for the 1st time :D and I believe that I am not the only one. Because back then the best you could do was having your favourite songs on a MC tape. If you were lucky then on a CD. Looking up something on the internet? What internet? :D this track got released in 1992, Google got online about 1998 and it was far from what you know today :)
Hope you enjoyed the interview!!
......one of the best dance tunes ever made....
A S oh yes for sure!!!
Still the greatest dance tune ever made.
That song still sounds great now... all these years on, I loved this song when it was released, it was so different and the music really grabs you!! I was 19 years old.. Great interview and what a really nice guy also.
Thanks so much, my very first interview for my UA-cam channel hehe..... and still the only video interview with Felix on UA-cam!
The Islington groove sound...
Thanks for this. Believe it or not but I have never seen Felix actually being interviewed, what a nice guy - I'm very glad that this song not only was the very first techno-track I heard back then but it's my all-time favorite, of course. Cheers!
Thank you! I think this is the only video interview with Felix on UA-cam, so I’m very happy I had the chance to do this interview with him!
I didn't realise how well this did everywhere. The international chart positions on Wikipedia are insane. The original is of course everything but the Candy Girls remix adds a certain deranged something.
Awesome! One of my favorites from the 90's
Love that song!
Apreciate THE TOTAL SINCERITY👏👏👏
One of the *BESTEST* dance tracks of all time!
For sure, still a massive anthem 25+ years after its release!
@@muzikxpress I messed around with the notes and chords on my very simple sequencer early this morning (01:15AM or so...)
Let the short riff loop for a bit, and decided that some things in life should be left as it is. It can't be enhanced...
Good scotch whiskey...
The Porsche 911...
My mom's lasagne...
And...
Felix - Don't You Want Me ft Yolanda
PS: Thanks for what you do to let the old school classics live on.
I just watched your work on Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar.
Brings back so many memories.
@@Noobi Thank you! I made this channel because it was so hard to find information about certain classics, so I was like "hmm, why not make a channel myself?". Got some more interviews lined up for later this year, next week I'll visit another producer that hardly / never does any interviews..... Plus more to come later this year! :)
@@muzikxpress I subscribed. There is a massive need for a channel like this. I hope MTV or VH1 picks this up and turns it into a TV show for you.
I love/loved this track. This and Cartouche's "Feel the Groove" really changed the music world.
My Name is Gladiator in a few weeks my interview with Serge Ramaekers about “Feel The Groove” by Cartouche will be online, hehe
People always use the term "staring into your soul"
But this guy epitomizes it.
This tune got me into dance music
Hooj mix my favourite
Same for me!
Such a hit back in the 90´s. Thanks to you and Felix to remind us how great it is.
🙌🏻
I also liked the follow up singles coming later. It will make me crazy Stars especially 🙌🏻💙💚💛🧡💜
Massive Classic!
I was born in 1973. The 90s ah yes, in this times i have a lots of fun. Don’t You Want Me from Felix is my favorite song :).
72 oh I wish we could go back x
me too
that tune rocked my world as a kid ,its perfection relevant and fresh all these years later all hail the mitzies
Absolutely loved this track. In fact, I still do. Great interview once again.
Thank you so much!
Fantastic timeless tune!! Still enjoy it today!! Great to see Felix!! Thanks for the interview!!
Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!
Glad you enjoy it!!
This shows how just using simple synthesiser, ROMpler like with factory presets (just like it was with M1, D50, DX7) and with good arrangement and production could produce fantastic results. And I agree for some tracks, they are so good, have so strong personality if you will, that every remix is ruining it, on the other hand remixes could be a good thing in other examples where they give new life to track or even make it better.
This is what you call a moment in time. His tunes stood out a mile. I caught my attention.
Thanks so much for doing that interview and obviously for Felix!!! Brings back so many happy memories of a good time in my life that song! Thanks for talking about it mr Felix and of course for you muzikxpress for the dope interview and sharing that with us!!!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon ;-)
Great interview,. Twan. Back in the days (in 1992) it was one of my favourite tracks and it still is a hugh track. Thanx for this vlog.
Thanks Ronald!!
I still listen to this track.
Greatest house track of all time.
Maciano Van der Laan so good, right??
muzikxpress only Sasha’s Xpander & Faithless’ Insomnia come close, but Felix’ Don’t you want me is the best of the best. Imo, ofc
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy the interviews! Much more to come! ;-)
I was in Ibiza 1992. The track was very big there.
Thank you Felix for this amazing track ❤️, with whom I found house music! Still enjoying this timeless tune in 2020!
I still have my Felix CD's from the 90's, the album "#0ne" is great, but "It Will Make Me Crazy" (Big Mix) is my favourite song the vocals are great, I think he has a thing for FISH, lol, and "Fast/Slow" from the album is great, I seen him at an Outdoor Rave "Revolution" near Glasgow in '93 I think.?!, I remember it was a total wash out.!!!, but Felix was there, and it was great.
Nice to see Felix in this interview.
Thank you! Still very happy Felix said 'yes' when I did ask him for this interview!
Very, very cool track made by a really nice bloke
Great interview. I have a Hooj Choons copy of Felix.
The track was heavily played on Kiss 100 back in the day. The DJ's on the station also played the track in the clubs they played at. I first heard Felix at Spice at Linford Film Studios which was a Kiss club on Friday night back in the early 90s.
Aidan Brennan thank you Aidan! What a track right??
Thanx for this very interesting Interview! "Don't you want me" is one of my favourite songs in all genres. What I would know else is with which synths this song is produced?
PS. I know now that the organ sound is from Roland JX-1.
Oh Don't You Want Me Is an Amazing Song By Felix It's My Favorite Song Too So We Kinda Have a Same Music Taste :)
Definately one of the tracks that started and retrospectively defined 90s Dancefoor or Dance or Euro Dance or whatever u call it 😅 On my top 10 list 🙌🏻❤
I agree 100% with that, what a classic!
It was a '' wow '' moment when i heard the record for the first time , and still love it ! Nice vlog !!
Thank you very much Wilfred!
It was on his only album #1
It'll make me crazy was huge to back then.. Why didn't he kkep going after this success.. Or did he.. I can't find any other work of him.. Such a talent.. Still listen to those tracks till this day.. Immortal sound
I loved “It Will Make Me Crazy” as well, so good!
@@muzikxpress I was a kid when that came out in 92 but those two tracks accompanied me til this day..just massive.. Before that track house music acid techno were very mechanic and had no real groove or base.. This paved the way for trance and all the other genres that came out later.. Why didn't he keep going or was felix an one hit wonder?
@@sebastianjunski6047 he also had a track called “Stars” as well.
@@muzikxpress yes I know it was on the album called Felix #1 album.. "It's me" is another Nice tune from this album.. But he disappeared after this.. Or maybe under a different pseudonym.. Celvin Rotane another dj producer that I loved.. He released his hit singles "i believe" in 95 (sooo fkn filthy) and "back again" in 97..he had another outstanding sound in my opinion
Wow, how interesting is the Pet Shop Boys connection ❤️
Pretty cool right? That was new for me as well when he told me!
I found that Interview right now. For good music it is never too late! Thank you very much, to remember me for the best time in my life, the feeling, the mood, all the love in the air. And I will be proud, to be part of this decade. Proud, and soooo happy still to be a "Child of the 90'". Ever!
Be blessed.
Greetings from Germany.
Mars Plastic was the best remix absolute belter
Loved that interview!! I done a remix of the track but after hearing what felix said about how protective people are of the original I don’t think I will unleash it lol😂
Haha they just released a new version / remix from Cedric Gervais the other day BTW! Plus there's a new track which features the sample (PBH & Jack and Alex Hosking - Lost In The Moment).
EDIT: And thank you, glad you enjoyed the interview!!
Thanks for a fantastic video. And, sorry, I'm going to repeat lots of other comments by saying what a lovely guy Felix is.
Thank you very much! And yeah, Felix is great! I was really nervous since this was my very first ever video interview for Muzikxpress. Still happy to see that after over 5 years of recording this one, it still gets views and comments. What a classic!
Felix, got myself a copy on white label, cheers mate ;)
Saw them live at Galactica open rave event at Ripon Racecourse uk 9th Oct 1992 but was too messed up to even see on the stage (as you do..) nice to see the guy behind the massive tune after all this time lol
Great to watch ! Masterpiece of a track
Loving your interviews
Thank you very much!!
Cooooool !!!!!!!
AWESOME TRACK!!!👍👍😁😁
Wow just found this. Absolutely loved this and it's brought back some fantastic memories. Well done!
I've heard this in a small dutch club, and went out after the weekend to purchase the single! It is an excellent tune, nothing much like it at that time... ❤️ It remains a favorite, well done mate!
Still a massive track after 30 years! :)
@@muzikxpress it sure is! I mix it in regularly
Good interview! Really nice you had a chance to do this. And of course, it was nice to hear how it was done.
Thank you very much! Hope to record at least 2 new interviews in the next 4 weeks btw ;-)
And I'll try to catch up the older vids before it!
Me always thought Felix was an german DJ ;). cause in germany its an common first name and in this time much electronic hits are made in germany.
lg
This track blew my mind when it came out, was definately my favourite. Those huge chords, thumping kick, filthy bass and great vocal hook. Tracks this good should not be remixed imo!!! Would like to hear more on the production process.
Hope you enjoyed it! (BTW this was my very first ever video interview hehe)
@@muzikxpress I did, I never thought to search for a Felix interview before yesterday and up you popped, enjoying the others also as I was growing up around the time and love this music. Not sure if its possible but maybe put Joey Beltram on your list, he has an interesting story about making a track bigger than energy flash, but there was a power loss and the track was lost, could not re-create it!
@@lardosian Thanks so much! Always happy to read when people enjoy my interviews :) And I don't have a travel budget for these vlogs, so I can only do interviews with people that live close to me (south of The Netherlands) or people that visit The Netherlands for shows etc. I would love to interview Joey Beltram, but he lives in the USA (New York I think) and he doesn't do a lot of shows anymore :(
But hopefully one day, he's on my wish-list though ;-)
@@muzikxpress Thought so yes, have you interviewed Legowelt, amazing producer.
@@lardosian No I havent, but who knows somewhere in the future ;-) But for the next months I have enough new material lined up and interviews I still need to record and edit haha
I've always been fascinated if it was somehow a conscious decision to keep the voice lines one semitone lower.. it creates an unique dissonance from the base harmonies of the song itself, and actually that made it unique in a sense. So I just recreated it and wanted to hear it with jomanda singing it at the correct tune, and it kinda loses something then :)
Great interview!
Great interview :)
Seriously great content man!
Thank you, I was surprised there was no interview with him online yet, so .... a good reason to interview Felix about this huge dance anthem :)
Absolutely, the Corsten interview is great too. Brilliant questions, only nitpick is the video quality but the audio is fine. I guess that's down to the lighting but there's not much you can while you're on holiday about that. Looking forward to more of these!
Thank you! And yes true, I'm still a beginner with recording / video editing, but hey, you have to start somewhere right? ;-) As long as people like the content I'm happy. But of course I wanna improve the quality as well. Think the lightning in the new interview (with Ben Liebrand) is a lot better already. Thanks for the feedback, good or bad, it all helps! Much appreciated!
he's right about the remixing!!! its just not the same!! great interview!
My favorite remix is definitely by the Candy Girls from the 95 release. And favorite Felix release would be 'It will make me crazy'. Another great vlog mate!
Thank you very much! And same, I love "It Will Make Me Crazy" as well, such a good track, bit underrated in my opinion.
love these interviews please do more
I'm trying to do a new one each week, but this is a hobby for me, so as long as I have time for it (and funds, since this is not a cheap hobby....) I will continue doing this. This weekend vlog 100 will be posted, another massive classic, so... stay tuned ;-) And thanks for the nice feedback! :)
Danke!
STILL A FRESH TRACK
great VLOG - and even greater 2 hear the story behind this amaZing track
Thanks so much! More to come! ;-)
Great Interview, so cool to finally see how Felix looks like. :)
riversedge64 glad your like it, thank you!!
@@muzikxpress I saw also your other interviews, great job!
riversedge64 thank you! There’s a lot of great names coming up in the next weeks, very excited for these hehe
That CD Room!!
Hehe, maybe I should do a little tour one day and make a vlog about it 😉
@@muzikxpress Definitely Sir!
Unique track 🏆✨📰
Make remake on NX3 📀✨
Nice 😊👍
WOW Steve W. "Silk" Hurley he`s another genius but id love to hear the demo of "don`t you want me" as the thumping piano in the original mix is brilliant
I think this version is on the vinyl tbh (can't check now, sorry!)
