This tournament was d best tournament of her life..she beat top russian stars , every match was like grandslam final..this grandslam victory was most beautiful victory of queen Serena
This match defined her athleticism and determination. She said … I can beat her. I’m better than her. And Serena turned her game UP, and was not afraid to take her time and set up her shots. What a beautiful match. It’s honestly my favorite!
This tournament was strange. Serena seemed to lack her usual power throughout , her serves were weak, and she moon balled a lot, plus she seemed to just want to keep the ball in play hoping the the other person would make a mistake. Then it all changed in the final, her power was just there.
Her ranking was in the 80s and she played her way into the tournament. Serena wasn't in shape at the start. I swear she lost 15 pounds between the first week and the second. By the time she bageled Sharapova, she was playing like herself again. @@Mop222
Story of Nadia's career. A match she should've won just like the ones she lost to Sharapova and Stosur at USO. The talent was there, sadly her fragile mentality and body were not.
Nadezhda was a great player. It's a shame she injured herself training before RG '06 because she probably would have won that slam, she was on an incredible run. Serena just too good here though, moving so well.
I wouldn't say probably wins. She would have been capable of winning, but she probably does not come through in the clutch moments to do it, as we see in the match above. It was her norm. Plus Henin at RG is really tough to beat anyway. Petrova beat her in 3 sets in a smaller clay tournament, but doing it at the French is a lot harder.
@@chezchez2005 Her forehand was pretty basic, definitely not a big groundstroke. She was a complete player but nothing stands out in her game, her serve and backhand were pretty good but nothing stellar.
When Serena fought back from 6-1 5-3, you just got a sense that title would be hers, despite the fact commentators at the time were calling Serena 'out of shape' during this entire tournament.
Loses in spectacular fashion to an All Time Great and still somehow fixed her face through press conference to say Serena wouldn’t win her next match 😂
dang this russian got 14 times as many games as another russian did against serena in the final, serena didn’t play as well here as she didn’t against maria in that beatdown but dang petrova used to be a real threat, shame she retired recently
As much as I dislike Maria, Maria's competitive attitude destroys Petrova's too. That is why Maria achieved far more than her fellow Russians, despite being arguably the least talented out of all of Petrova, Kuznetsova, Dementieva, maybe even Myskina and Zvonareva, but her mental toughness is what made the difference in her vs those others and why she won more big titles.
Sometimes I wonder why Petrova did not achieve more. I don't think she was any less talented than the other Russians who won slams like Sharapova and Kuznetsova, and she seems more talented than Dementieva, but she never had the success any of those did. Even this match despite losing shows that. Serena had to play so well to come back and beat her.
Petrova was an amazing ball striker and I feel that she was as talented as any player of her generation, but she could rarely control her consistency for long stretches.
@@tenisfin She wasn't an amazing ball striker, an amazing ball striker with natural power is something like Vaidisova aka the biggest waste of all time, Davenport, Kvitova, ect. Petrova forehand was pretty basic.
@@KayleJudicator I disagree. Petrova had a light years stronger serve, much stronger volleys, stronger backhand. Dementieva had the more punishing forehand I would agree, but Petrova also had a great forehand as the highlights above show. Dementieva was a better mover, but Petrova was also a very good mover. Petrova had more finesse shots. I don't agree Dementieva who relied purely on her power baseline game, particularly her forehand, had a simple but effective game, and an embarassing serve, was more talented at all. Although both are very talented and should have won a slam at some point.
@@user-ex8kc3kp6s Not rude at all. Nadia had all that mouth before the match about how this was gonna be an easy match & got outplayed. It was rude of her to underestimate her opponent & THEE Serena Williams of all people.
@@KH-sn2sj Well it was an easy match until she choked. She won the first set easily and was outplaying Williams in the 2nd and was three points away from winning the match. She was walking the walk but choked in the end.

Serena was 6-1 5-3 down and produced one of the most amazing comebacks to win this match 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Fake ESPN didn't show how she won those pivotal games from 5-3 down! They just fast forwards to 5-5 🙄🙄🙄
This was a good match! I remember watching this whole tournament. 👑🎾❤👍🏽

This was more worthy of that one sided final.

She had a great all round game ; big groundstrokes, big serve and good at the net ; I’m surprised she didn’t reach at least one slam final
