Thank you, this was helpful. There is one thing that I'd like to caution anyone that is attempting this for the first time. When putting the 2 screws in to secure the canopy to the mounting bracket, he careful not to drop the screw on top of the fan motor housing. There are vent holes on the top that the screw might fall into. And no way for it to fall through. I know from experience. I finished putting it together hoping that it wouldn't rattle or anything, but of course there is a sound of metal on metal rubbing when the fan turns. So now i have to take it apart and try to get it out. I should have covered the top of the motor while I was putting in the screw. Big lesson learned.
John excellent point and thank you for sharing your experience.
JON H. It happened to me today
thanks! very helpful although the paper directions that were included were better then most. Still, it took me most of an afternoon and it was very trying to get the wires connected due to the shortness of them. Also securing the cover was a major pain in the ass. Needed a very short screwdriver and it was quite awkward. Anyhoo.. it is a very nice fan. Surprisingly quiet and the remote control is really cool
Excellent directions video 😃
Thank you so much.
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
Johnny G you are very welcome. Thank you for viewing.
Thank you. This was very helpful, particularly regarding the purpose of the red/pink wire.
Many Thanks! Sound or Slang does not matter, demonstration matters. This Silent Demo is 'Five Star', i was able to install my HD-mercer fan.
Kumar Thiruvenkadam you are welcome. Sometimes words aren't needed. But I have been criticized for it but as long as it is helpful I let it slide off like water off a duck.. Thanks for viewing
@@TheShackHome your are welcome! I agree most of the viewers may expect the sound. Also i have a two switch control for the Fan Point, but the red wire is not connected, one switch in the room entrance remains no control over the fan. Any suggestions appreciated !
Hi, I have the same fan. Is there a built in timer on the light or fan speeds through the remote? At times it turns off between 15 and 30 minutes. Does holding down the light button for a few seconds or the fan speed buttons make this happen? .. does yours do the same? Thanks.
@@alge3399 that is a new one on me. Never heard of it. Mine will stay on all night. no timer what so ever. That is very strange.
@@alge3399 Yes this is strange. No, mine works fine. May be good idea to call the tech support.
Well done. I was given a Hunter fan, which included a remote control and no instructional manuals The fan had a blue wire, but when I went to Hunter's online instruction manual, it made no mention of the blue wire for the fan. Now that I've watched your video, I can see that blue wire will connect to the red wire on the receiver, which is marked, "Light out." Thank you for helping me see the light - pun intended. :)
Sin audio pero lo hicimos. Muchas grasias thank you very much.
Felicia your welcome. I do have another video with audio this vid was for home depot. I'm very restricted in what i do when i do a review for the home depot website so i don't talk and i cant promote my channel. Glad you were successful and happy to help in any way.
Great informative video. I bought this model fan from Home Depot. Only feedback for improvement would have been nice to have audio instructions (someone talking) while going through the steps on top of the typed out steps. I am an auditory learner. :)
Tracey Schmitt
I sometimes do reviews and put them on the home depot website and they are very restrictive so those are mostly no audio. I do my regular video with audio and more detail. here is a link to it if you would like to view:

So what wiring would be different if you wanted to keep the Dual switch setup for the light and fan separately? But still use the remote when they are flipped on?
How do you change out the light bulb...I know stupid question but I got stumped trying to replace the glass cover...it wouldn't budge and I ended up breaking it🤓
Same for me. I gently pushed up on the glass and turned counter clock wise about half a turn, came right off
I just installed this fan, thank you for the video ,great help. I was wondering if I can change the warm led to a cool led???
Thanks for the tip on inserting the receiver flat side towards the ceiling. I wondered how the heck I was going to get the receiver into such a small space provided by the canopy. It clicked for me after watching you push the receiver flat side first up into the mounting bracket. I'm putting a universal remote control (Home Depot 343-668) into a Hampton Bay fan. Following your example, I found the receiver fit into the mounting bracket like a glove with perfect shaping for the canopy to fit over it. The remote control's packaging says it works with Hampton Bay, Hunter, Casablanca and Harbor Breeze, so I assume this great fit is by design.
videray you are welcome i try to help in any way. sounds like you got it covered. thanks for viewing
Thank you so much, I was wondering why the light was weaker and checking how ti change the bulb and you just told me that it's dimmable!!!
Chopin you're soo welcome Happy to help.Thank you for viewing
Pls tell me ,that type of fan speed is slow in comparison to others??
Thanks, you need extract the air?
Was it on updraft in the end of this video because it's December?
Thanks your video help out alot... However looking at the instructions manual the second step it shows preparing the motor.... I noticed you did not do this.... is this not needed? One can just skip this step?
Hello, I am working on the same fan & model. I am having trouble with the medium/low setting not being able to function though it does make the ‘click’ noise. The high function works, the other 2 do not. I have tried resetting the remote as well as checking the wiring but am still lost as to what it could be. If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Let me also state I did not install this fan and the wiring is atrocious from whomever did install it a while back so they could have missed something that I also am not seeing as well.
maxwellkleine4056 if you didnt install it and it's been doing this for a while I would have to say its in the wiring. If it were me i would pull it down and start over somertimes its a simple mistake.
It’s spinning backwards boss, but really helpful video all around thank you 🙏🏻
Oscar Ochoa it goes both ways and depending on the season I switch accordingly. Glad to help.
@TheShackHome I have a question where is the switch to change the direction?
Can I replace this bulb with the daylight on? Any Suggestions?
Shack,I just but this fan/light up, I didn't have any instructions because I bought it a surplus store and watched your video to see how you did it, I did it in a little different order, put the blades on before I put it up but it all worked out pretty good. I did notice that you didn't put on the trim that covers the screws where the fan meets the ceiling
Len yes i dropped the fan down and added a longer drop rod. there is a whole theory on fan height, ceiling height and distance from floor for max air circulation so i did a little figuring and actually got a drop rod cut it to MY desired length and drilled the hole where you put the pin in to hold in, then drilled and tapped another for ground wire ahhh yes I'm a bit anal but yes i knew i was going to redo the fan so i didn't install that till i installed the new drop rod. Good eye it doesn't matter how you did the steps they are there for your help. Glad it's up and running and thank you for viewing.
Do you know if this fan can reverse direction and if so where is the switch ?! Thanks
I have 4 of these. The one in the bedroom and the one in the living room are apparently on the same wiring because if I turn on both fans, the light comes on one of them. If I turn off that light, the light automatically comes on the other. I am going to shoot one of them.
My remote not working all of a sudden? Battery good it lights up but won’t work? What do I do was installed March 2021, 7 months ago
Hampton Bay Mercer has 153mm X 15mm motor, but you're right about Home Decorators Collection Mercer having 172mm X 20mm motor, so Hampton Bay Mercer and Home Decorators Collection Mercer are not exactly the same fan.
Quick question, I couldn't get a good angle but do I connect the included ground wire to the hanger ball on the downrod?
rebelyell the ground should be connected to the downrod itself and the the downrod set in the ball via the pin. So you should have the ground from the mounting bracket, ground from the downrod, ground from the motor connect to the ground from the ceiling
I would Slide The Mounting Bracket over 2 Screws and replace the box with a Fan Rated One.
The Light/Fan I took down was there for 10 years so until I get to the living room and scarp the popcorn off it should hold. My bedrooms, not having any ceiling lights, I mounted a new light/fan I made sure it was done correctly. Thank you Vintage fan always a pleasure. Thanks for viewing.
The Shack You're welcome!
You forgot to install the cover ring over the top exposed screws
Just got this fan and installed as shown , but fan will only turn on in high, both low and mid speed do nothing i heart it click but does not move any suggestions on how to fix this?
Arnesto i'd double check the wiring if all is good just by chance pop out the battery and make sure it's in correct and if it still doesn't operate you just might have a faulty unit.
Good looking baby boy
My model is similar. You didn’t cut those long wires? I had to. It wouldn’t fit into the outlet box.
Anyways I installed everything correctly but my fan won’t turn. It hums but no turn. Why?
Carlos Aramburo
Yes I cut the wires after I hung the fixture. You cut what you need. They have the wires long incase you put a 3' downrod on. As the motor I always start from the beginning. Double and triple check the wiring. One thing I do prior to installing the motor and blade is to do a check on the motor to make sure it works. I hang it in the cradle and wire the motor without the remote to verify it works then the light. When all passes I take it down and go through the step by step install.
The video was really helpful, but I noticed your fan is turning backwards or I'm wrong???🤔🤔🤔🤔
ROOKIE #1
no I have my fan either clock wise (for winter) or counter clock wise (for summer) depending on season. Very few ever switch their fan so I must be an odd duck, I do every season.
Man this fan/light has me stumped. i press the low button and it turns the light on. i press the hi button and the fan goes slower. i start pressing random buttoms and it does the opposite. could it have been installed improperly or am i just not figuring out the proper remote functions? any answer would help at this point lol
Sway V
my first thoughts would be to double check the wiring at the receiver. If you hit low fan button and a light goes on that would be my starting point. If wiring is all correct then there could be a faulty transmitter. Oh you never know check to see of the battery is installed correct also + to + and - to - cover all bases. hope it helps hard to analyze if not in person. Thanks for viewing.
I lost my controller, any idea where I can get another?
CArlos not sure. Did you try contacting the factory or see if there is a universal unit that would work with your brand of ceiling fan.
How would I flush mount this fan without the downrod?
Tibor this is a dual mount fan flush or with a down rod. the instruction are very simple basically remove 3 of the six collar mounting screws which will allow the canopy to be mounter to the motor housing then replace screws and mount the canopy to the mounting bracket.
Thanks for the info will give it a try.
You mounted it to a plastic box? Did it ever fall down?
yes it runs all the time in this heat and has never came loose or fallen, solid as a rock.
O sound!
I just installed this fan but the light component works only with the fan settings. Meaning I cant run the fan with the light off if i turn the light off the fan turns off. If I chsnge fan speed the light brightness changes also. Any recommendations for a fix? Oh and btw I only have 2 wires
Kennith sounds like a wire issue. even with just 2 wires ground the fan to a screw on the cradle or drop rod but the 2 wires coming from the ceiling should still wire as directed.
here are links to my other channel i go more in depth on the install same basic principal just fast forward to the wiring part:

Thanks for the response. Yeah I wired it wrong. I tied the light and fan together on the remote and the fan, then connected it to my switch leg. Once I ran light to light and fan to fan it fired up perfectly thank you
@@kennethclaudio91 you're welcome, glad you solved the problem
The audio is not working. I tried it on both phones
Had someone come out and install this while was at work. I came home to turn on w remote and the light and fan come on at the same time along w a very loud humming sound although while holding this button down light gets brighter and fan runs faster the humming sound fades away..the bulb button on the remote is the only button that works but the other buttons do communicate w the fan with a clicking noise but nothing happens. Any explanation for this?
Jason I'd question wiring. Id start there. Also did this replace an existing ceiling light/fan or was it just a light fixture with a single switch or duel, separate light and fan switch.
The Shack i checked it and saw he tied the blue w the black wires so I separated them no noise now and it almost works perfect but the slow and medium speed function does not respond although u can hear the click when choosing either option. I had a old fixture wired to a dual switch but I've noticed he ran the new to the other switch which was never used.
Jason in my room, office, man-cave i installed the same type fan/light fixture but wired it to 2 switches. 1 to work the light. 1 to work the fan. this way when i go into the room i can turn the light on via switch prior to entering and searching for the remote. just my personal preference. I it still dim the light and i can change speeds for the fan but i can flip the switch when i leave and turn all off or just the light keeping the fan running to keep the room cool in the hot summer. So I'd get a multi meter and when you have time get someone to flip the switches while testing the wires to see which wire works off what switch and then connect the light and fan to your desired switch. Plus you'll see if they work or not.If one doesn't work pull the switch and check the wires connecting to the switch and see if you even have power to it. Hopefully wiring it up the way he did didn't do something to the remote receiver. Good luck and let us know the outcome.
The Shack okay thanks I'll let you know I'm going to try what u said.
The Shack turns out that the fan was defective bought a new one every thing is fine now. Thanks
Could have done this with 3 less red stone :/
Airedrop wifi ceiling fan
My fan is running in reverse how do I change this?
David on this model drop the white lenses and you will see the switch for the direction.
LMAO
What if you touch the light bulb?
Tyler its a habit i got into replacing certain bulbs that say don't touch them with your bars hands the oils on your fingers could cause hot spots and burn the bulb out so its something i just do for more of a precaution measure
What effects that happen on the bare hands?
Tyler Troutner there is no issue with your hands its the natural oils on your fingers that may harm certain bulbs. I manage commercial buildings when replacing these large bulbs that are about 2 inches diameter and 12 inches long it notes “use gloves when handling the bulbs” it’s just so you don’t get the oil‘s on the bulb that’s just a habit I get into now when handling lightbulbs just follow any precautions in the manual when installing the fixture or the lightbulb
Why can’t we hear you?
Why you turning on reverse switch
draven hadi
depending on the time of the year depends on which way the fan rotates. Summer counter clockwise. winter clockwise.
From unboxing fan is reversed
Appreciate you trying to help, but how can there be no audio? At least some closed captioning would be appreciated.
Chris I have a few videos I do just foer reviews on Home Depots website. They are very restricted in what they allow so I'm limited in what I can do I have other videos on my channel not dedicated for Home Depot so here is a link to another light install that's basically the same
ua-cam.com/video/IzfKGa5XhLE/v-deo.html
Thanks for viewing
am i the only one who can see the fan rotating in the wrong direction?
why there is no audio to this video?
I do 2 vids one for home depot and one for my channel. Home Depot is vert strict on content for their reviews. Therefore i keep it very simple and direct usually with no audio but on my channel i'm at liberty to do more . When i buy an item and do a review i have to make 2 for this reason. if you like you can see this in more depth on my channel ua-cam.com/users/TheShackHome
Do you have this video with audio on your channel if so where can I find your channel?
@@aryekol4081 ua-cam.com/video/IzfKGa5XhLE/v-deo.html
Where buy the bulb??? Don’t found ??? Thanks
If you go to home depot you can find a replacement. The bulb that came with my fixture has this printed on the base, JD E11 120V 100W. I think they are a T4 E11 bulb. Basically a mini candelabras bulb but has to be a dimmable bulb. When this one goes out i will replace with a LED bulb
The Shack thanks 🙏

Well that was disappointing! I was expecting to see the fan installed using a remote control. It sounded like an easy way to install a fan.
Serious? Hell i can do the same thing with looking at pictures in a book.
