- Remembering 60 years back is hard for anyone, but for Melvyn Amrine it's especially challenging. Melvyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer's three years ago. For his wife, Doris, it's been hard to watch. But she says something happened recently to remind her that the man she fell in love with is still here. Steve Hartman reports.
There are no brakes on the feels train.

another gem! :)
hippie go live elsewhere
Believe me, there are a lot of fantastic cops out there. They just aren't highlighted as much as the bad cops.
Necrodox even when you deal with cops on a regular basis, they are jerks. In their mind, they either pinpoint you as the bad or good one. And if you're the "bad" one, they are disrespectful as hell.
angelicbaby92 such statements can only be made based on personal experience. Someone with 10 bad experiences with cops will say they're jerks, someone with 10 good experiences with cops will say they're gods. But let's be honest here, most people chalk them up as "jerks" because they gave them a ticket". Is that fair to the cops? Of course not, I understand there are some bullshit laws and we might get caught up in them, but it is what it is. I've only been pulled over twice, and on both occasions I cooperated completely without giving the officer any type of crap or difficulty. I responded politely and accurately without any malicious intent. Being honest and practical with cops has always landed me brownie points so it makes me wonder how so many people have such problems with cops.
Maybe it's because they're doing suspicious things without realizing it (this happens a lot believe it or not). Regardless, it is what it is. I just hate when people demoralize *all* cops for the actions of a cop on some UA-cam video. Think what you will of cops but they are there to protect and serve you, maybe you don't see it, maybe you don't recognize it, but you seriously need to appreciate it.
Just like the many brave women and man who fight for our freedom, we take it for granted. Just because the media accentuates the bad doesn't mean it's necessarily true (far from it actually).
Kudos my friend.
This actually made me cry! So sweet!!!
I'm not crying I'm not crying I'm not crying
My eyes just started leaking, I swear...
I have an Eye infection.
I'm not crying ,my eyes are just sweating

What a love story. My Dad has dementia and its a horrible disease.
God Bless the officers that had such patience and cared for this "lost" man for bringing him home to his love.
"I saw his heart" broke my heart.
Truly touching story, and wonderful police officers who went above and beyond the call of duty.
I like what she says about when the mind forgets that heart remembers. Such a beautiful story of love and caring. Thank you to the police officer who so kindly helped the man on a mission.
This is the true love and still going on after 60 years, bring me to tears :(
Tears..... the heart remembers!!
I love those cops. Free donuts for life.
"Eventhough the mind doesnt remember everything, the heart remembers.."
Lovely story.
You have good lads there in your Police Dept, Litle Rock :))
This broke me. It broke me. And put me back together. And omg.
lie down, try not to cry, cry a lot.
Meanwhile... my dad once forgot my mom and left her for an hour at a gas station's toilet lol.
That sounds like MY life!!!!
He didn't forget her... he was turning her out!! ;)
My mother had Alzheimers and despite that never forgot the man who was her partner for decades, even though he had died before her. Love endures.
The mind doesn't remember, the heart does.
I fucking cried.
Anybody here who wants to start a fight? I need to feel manly again...
SHUT THE FUCK UP. We can't deal with this :'(
LETS FIGHT!
wait let me wipe my eyes
I am already on my way fighting a bear.
You wanna go bro? Fuck...who's cutting onions in here...
Soon as my eyes clear up, gonna hit the weights.😂
Very beautiful story, and I can relate with the wife on how it's hard to watch how her husband's condition is worsening. My grandmother has Alzheimer's and Dementia, I am her caregiver and it breaks me up inside ever single day seeing how she's always lost and how she doesn't understand what is going on with her. She's become very depressive and her hallucinations from her Dementia doesn't make her condition a walk in the park. I'm always trying to teach her positive thinking and not giving up to her disease but its not working as I hoped for, so I spend many of my days and nights crying because even thou taking care of an Alzheimer's patient is overwhelming, watching how the disease robs the person of their identity and memories is so much worse.
**HUGS** to you. It IS hard taking care of someone with Dementia and Alzheimer's. She's very lucky to have you.
thank you Rachel
I an touched to read your experience. My brother had Alzheimer's and Dementia. I worry when, not if, some of that will affect me. My wife does not have a genetic predisposition to that, but she is older than I am. We just have to be prepared to help each other.
Larry Clifford I totally understand, I worry too since Alzheimer's and Dementia runs rapid hell in my family. Alzheimer's has claimed more than 20 of my family members since the 1930's. My grandmother is the oldest of 19 siblings, she already had a brother and sister die a few years back from the disease and right now she has another brother (my godfather) and another sister who are suffering from the illness. My great-grandmother (their mother) was the only one out of her 9 siblings that wasn't effected by the disease. I also have countless of other family members who have suffered from it who I haven't met yet (we are a huge family). The stories are horrible, one of my grandmother's aunts used to walk naked in the streets and one of her uncles lost his mind and killed a man, which is scary because my grandmother along with all her siblings become violent :(
But I am assuming that you live in the US and I know there are many test that your doctor can do to see if you will develop the disease. There's genetic risk testing, it's a blood test for APOE-e4, the strongest risk gene for Alzheimer's. Also there's deterministic genes and Neurological exams that your doctor can do. If you have the mutation gene that causes Alzheimer's it doesn't necessarily mean that you will get Alzheimer's but that you have the gene. You can find more information at the Alzheimer's Association website. I honestly wish we had those test here where I live, but I am already showing early signs so I think I already know the answer if I get tested.
This is beyond touching and very beautiful.
Props to those officers!

I work with patients with dementia and Alzheimer's. They are still themselves. Usually they are in the mind as they were when they were in their teens. This story made me smile

So much positive unexpected moments in life when tend to spark hope inside of you, when they tend to flash the silver linings, then, because this emotionally tangible shape of the moment becomes so compelling, you can't hold down your emotional outburst. You become confident and happy. Your body can't resist the sudden urges of optimism growing out of your nutral attitude and you develop tears in your eyes. And this instant of time becomes the most beautiful moment of your life. :')
beautiful story all around
Wonderful made my day!
God Bless them Both. :-D May God be with Doris and Melvyn. They have such a beautiful marriage.

The best line is "It is amazing what is possible when love becomes an instinct." Perhaps best line ever.

this made me cry
Definitely feel good story of the year!
Such a beautiful love story ! 👀
This shows that nothing in the world can take down true love, not even Alzheimer's. This video is a special treat in that they are an interracial couple which I love seeing. Back when they married they likely had to deal with scorn and racism. They are an adorable couple. Again love won out. The two police officers are cool dudes & I hope they remain safe.
i tell you, i had to deal with 2 grandmas with alzhimer's and is no easy duty! it takes u through all the feelings, annoy, sadness, pity, funny, etc.. and i noticed on both of them same thing. most of their memory was lost in the end, but the very important things in their lifes, they just couldnt forget. like who is their sons, or the war they went through. its the very touching things for people with alzhimer's that they cant forget. its the strong connection with a speciffic person, moment, or place. for all the people who have to deal with alzhimer's over their relatives, i send you all my strenght and patience, because again, this aint no easy duty! peace
This is too precious. :')
Props to the cop slipping the money to the cashier when Melvyn came up short, without him even noticing. Smooth move.
Gj man, respect. When he slipped him the money I knew I was looking at a king
aww 60 years later, they are still looking good.
