    Either you had no clue what you were getting into- or spent a lot of extra time to allow the viewer time to absorb and digest just how hands-on this task can be (that's a compliment BTW !!)...
    Also placing the pins in the freezer overnight will allow them to slip into the bushings easier.
    Great job, great attitude and great example of patience THX !!!

    I replaced the pins in my 2002 GMC Sierra. The door is a lot better but it was still low in the back and did not line up correctly. I took a 4 by 4 and a floor jack, Put the 4 by 4 under the flat part on the bottom of the door towards the rear of the truck, closed it as far as I could with the 4x4 underneath, put the floor jack underneath that and jacked it up literally bending the door slightly. that fixed it and now it works as it should.

    Thanks for the great video. I have hinge pins coming on Monday for my 2002 Silverado with 256,000 miles on it. One suggestion I will make regarding the removal of the hinge pins when you get the bottom ground off and this comes from my experience working on a lot of old houses and having to remove hinge pins that are stuck in place with rust or paint. Clamp a vice grip onto the top of the pin and twist it back and forth a few times just to loosen it up. When it's loose leave the vice grip on and tap the underside of the vice grip upward with a hammer and it will come out pretty easily.

    Have yet to find a bushing kit, that last beyond after a month. I'm to the point of boring the holes out and making a thicker bushing. Those thin things, well are just to thin.

    Nice video 😊 I changed hinge pins on the passenger door on my Tahoe 4-5 years ago, and recently did the drivers door. But I had forgotten that 4 pins is needed, and get the plessure to do it again on the drivers door in a few days 😂
    I used the hinge pins with a nut.
    Only thing I would do different from you is to not put on grease before pushing in the bushing.

    Thanks for the video. 👍 I’ve got the same issue with the door to my my 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71. It’s ever so slightly off. Maybe using a jack with something to protect the door to keep it in place or held up on bottom of door when putting the door back on hinges if someone does not have a helper? I’m going to try that and see how it goes when I do my hinges.

    Thank you for this video! I appreciate you letting us know all the things that worked and didn’t quite work. I’m going to attempt to replace the hinge pins on my daughters 04 Escalade this evening. How long did you have to actually grind the bottoms of the pins before they were able to be punched out? Again thank you and I will definitely be subscribing to your channel!

      @AxlesGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Glad it was helpful! Not to much grinding to get them out. Easy task with a flap disk. However look in the Suburban playlist as we had to do it a second time with a better type of hinge repair kit.

  • @ScottWConvid19

    Just for anyone's info on this, if you don't change the hinge pins and your door sags, it will eventually break your door lock actuator, which will eventually damage the switch inside, causing the door ajar light to go on and will drain your battery within a week of not using your vehicle because there will be a constant draw on the battery, signaling the door is ajar

Maybe now I'll scare the courage to do this myself...
