That's Vic Elford in the Austrian 917 (white with red fender stripes) factory prototype turbo 1100hp whomping up on the Gulf/Wyer Normally aspirated 917s. After he passes them he gets on it just coming out of the right hander.
savaden the 917 lh langheck or long tail wasn't turbocharged and had no where near 1100bhp it had the same 4.9 litre flat 12 naturally aspirated engine as the gulf 917 . Only reason it was faster was because of aerodynamics giving it about a 12 mph advantage on straights , was a complete handful through corners though
Vic Elford appears a lot in old movie newsreels of the era, at one point he was leading and thrashing the field. That No. 25 is as much a cultural icon as the No .23 the eventual winners.
In 1970 the 917 was putting out about 580hp. By 1971 it was over 600. You are talking about the CanAm car which never raced at Le Mans and would not have been eligible anyway.
@@thethirdman225 According to Vic Elford's autobiography, the Austrians were running the prototype of the twin turboed car at over 1000 hp. Looking at the LeMans videos you can see the white car with red accents disappear past the rest of the pack. The car dnf'd but nevertheless was ridiculously fast.
Ah these monster Porsche 917s!. I could watch and listen to them and the Ferdari 512s all day. I'm sorry, but modern Le Mans cars do not sound like these. Granted though, the only crash protection these 917s had were the front wheels and some thin tubing above the flat 12 engine as an excuse for an anti-roll bar.
They started Filming with out script also these 5 Liter car they change the rules Ford was winning all the 5 liter all motor breaks down the best Racing movie I asked if they can remaster

No joke if you did some massaging and brought it up to modern specs... you could run the 917 in lmdh or at least the basic silhouette of the 917
@ProfessorIgor actually Jack Olivier hit 246 Mph
Not true. Nobody did ‘246mph’ in a 917 at Le Mans.
@blastun Yeah.. but I still like the roar at 2:33-2:35
LA MEJOR CARRERA DE AUTOS SPORPROTOTIPOS QUE COMPITIERON EN LE MANS LOS GULF PORSCHES 917 K Y 917 L
@MPZRACEVIDEO I agree wiht you!
the best part was at 0:0 -3:49
That's Vic Elford in the Austrian 917 (white with red fender stripes) factory prototype turbo 1100hp whomping up on the Gulf/Wyer Normally aspirated 917s.
917/30.sunoco.
That was the turbo.
It murdered the Can Am.
An anti roll bar is part of the suspension. The rollover hoop is what you’re talking about.
maaaaaaaatra
They started Filming with out script also these 5 Liter car they change the rules Ford was winning all the 5 liter all motor breaks down the best Racing movie I asked if they can remaster
Ford GTs were not there in 1970
They raced from 1964 thru 1969
Read some history....
FOOL!
La sonorités de malade à 2:35
At times I think wow, but then I wonder whether this mechanical merry go round with young guys risking their lives for eternal fame and glory isn't completely absurd Earthling-behaviour. I'm quite torn between these two extremes.
Brilliantly brutal racing cars. You can almost smell the danger.
A French kiss with death.
