Have missed hearing John and Tony for so long. Bless you, David Coffin, you’ve made this wretched year much better!
couldn't hear Tony Barrand very well, but they are past masters of traditional ballads of all kinds. I learned this one in high school choir as "Swansea Town". Lots of their music is on YT. Thanks, David for including them. 1/13/22 Oakland CA
Man I love David Coffin
What a lovely rendition! So great to see virtual group shanty singing. One of the things I've missed the most during the pandemic. The shanty sings at Folklife in Seattle are a highlight of the year, and it's such a shame to miss it. Thanks for doing this concert, it's such a treat to have the feeling of those sings in this lonely year.
❤ wonderful. Thank you
Ammirevole esecuzione, bravissimi!!!

3 treasures
Superb, gentlemen
Be healthy people
Jolly good mate
I realize that it borders on heresy to question Roberts and Barrand, but I've always suspected that the Copper Family, the source of this song, got the words wrong, because "the secrets of your heart are the best of my good will" just doesn't make any sense. I think the second verse is supposed to go
When I am far upon the sea you will know not where I am.
Kind letters I will write to you from every foreign land.
The secrets of my heart, dear girl, and the best of my good will,
So let my body be where it might, my heart will be with you still.
There, isn't that better? He's going to write her letters, in which he'll tell her all the secrets of his heart and express the best of his good will, and that way no matter where he might be physically located she'll know he still loves her. Totally comprehensible. Roberts and Barrand do change the Coppers' line "let YOUR body be where it might," which REALLY makes no sense -- she's not going anywhere; he is -- to "let MY body be where it might," and that helps somewhat, but that "secrets of your heart" line is just all wrong. In my humble opinion, of course, but that's how I always sing it.
Would be an absolutely stellar performance if David were to solo
