I haven't been in a social gathering for 6 years. I never ever thought that I'd see men in ☮️ but it isn't over we ARE going to find out where that road goes! Gentlemen I'm crying my eyes out. I've been singing these songs about 38 years ago. God bless all and music is the weapon of our future!
My dad used to sing Blow The Man Down to us when we were little. My sister and I would call back in song with him. That was about 35 years ago. I searched out this song so I can sing it to him again. Unfortunately he can't speak anymore and his time is very short. But life is beautiful and sweet and music has a way of soothing the soul.
Hed have been better off with some Marines. We literally sing cadence and love crayons in boxes. Were fakin loud as well. Either way well done to these men.
Living near Alexandria, Virginia, that old town has almost as many Irish bars and pubs than any town in Ireland. And Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, every damn one has live artists and bands singing every drinking song and sea shanty you could possibly think of. It is literally packed wall to wall singing drunks in every one. You would think they were competing. Then it turns into one huge pub crawl. This is every weekend of the year and some are cop bars, some fireman bars. Don't confuse them !! Then on New Years Eve they host First Night where every pub and restaurant has one group or another playing about a 25 minute show every half hour. You buy one ticket and it gets you in everywhere, but that is set up more family friendly. Usually that is alcohol free until 10pm and the kiddos go home. Most of the buildings are even origional to the late 18th century. It is perfectly insane and everyone needs to experience it at least once.
They were copying his left which is port (not all men) but the atmosphere resembles real ship life. This is amazing. Glad to come across this video. By the way, I did sail with my friend quite a bit in SC so I know sailing terms yet was in no way talking sh**. Fraternal songs helped create the new world. Can’t say how lovely and needed this was for me.
For David to include this group in a shanty that the internet would watch and see some of these gentlemen not participate disappoints me. I am looking at the gentleman in green and the guy in the front in a grey shirt and glasses. National Guard commanders should council any man that doesn't conform to unit activities like the active US Army.
@@williambell7086 MAINE. it's the MAINE NATIONAL GUARD. there is no marine national guard, only the army and air force. for fucks sake man, if you're gonna be condescending at least don't be laughably wrong
Jared Wroten - Look, it doesn’t fuckin matter who did or didn’t participate. They’re clearly not on duty. Let them be. If they want to just sit and absorb the atmosphere, then let em!!! Honestly, “council any man that doesn’t conform to unit activities” Not singing a shanty in their downtime should count as a professional infraction? the fuck is wrong with you?? Get over yourself already
Dude, relax. Most appear to be drinking. Not an official function. Don't take life so seriously. They're not swimming into the surf saving a life. They're singing and drinking, or not singing and not drinking. They're having fun. You must be a fan of mandatory morale.
My My there is so much testosterone in that room! I used to work in the Lawrence Hall of Science Maritime program and go out to schools and had to do this song with 8th graders and I hand it to David Coffin for being able to get those guys paying somewhat of attention. I couldn't get my 8th graders to get into the song. Oh well that's why David is who he is
This guy aged over the past 9 years exactly how I would have expected him to.
These guys aren’t appreciating Mr Coffins instruction as much as they should....I’d smile ear to ear singing with this man.
Same. Id totally fuck it up but have some fun for sure
he is a leg
I'd be up there with him
They're all drunk
Dude in the back is dabing till this day
This man will lead you to battle
kalanaiokok against the spanish armada!
And we will answer it !!
Game on. Tonight we dine in Hell...Together
And I would gladly follow
I would love to be at one of his shows. Singing sea shanties by yourself: tired
Singing shanties in a crowd with Coffin himself: WIRED
They were too drunk for that second one lol
You'd think sailors would totally be into blowing men... down. ;)
@BURGATO ' these comments hahaha
drunk on ship =off
@Suyamu judging by their sissy girl hoots and hollers, they never needed the Navy 😘
Who needs instruments!? WHEN WE GET DAVID THE ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!

Were you drunk or on something when you posted this?
How cool that he wrote a wry toast for them. Nicely done, Mr. Coffin.
Guy in white with camo cap and guy in green were definitely not having fun🤣🤣. Too cool to join in
Proud to be part of the Maine National Gaurd. Glad to see this. Makes me proud of my state

Dude up front was HAMMERED
😭 this is a Great Christmas and birthday gift! Cognitive. Thank our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd responder's. God bless our Universe!

Wow, he's an amazing singer
I’m from Brazil, this is song is fantastic!

Come on cannon cockers, if this was 11Bs we would have been way more into this.

the dude can sing
i love so much
I miss Maine ❣
Just look at how lively they were
(they were all drunk)
Pretty much how olde timey navies operated
That "don't be wry (rye) with me buddy" (6:36) was so sharp I got cut three years later...
here after "Blow the Man Down" movie
Lol, I just watched it today and I was like "holy shit, it's David Coffin!!".
Sounded great!
I need a quarter master . Coffin is a great name.
Legend.
Starboard would be to the right side looking towards the bow.
Refers to starboard hand, then raises left (port) hand.
Noticed that also.
.....that's not how port and starboard work. If the front of the room was the front of the ship, then that absolutely was his starboard hand.
@@robertlawson503 true, and if he were controlling the ship while underway from say the bridge?
So glad I wasn't the only one who caught this
Mirroring so they don't get confuses

That guy with the Guinness shirt by the bar looks like Drill Sergeant Hy AKA Angry Cops.
Man these guys couldn't stop dabbing, what a weird time that was.
God bless the Maine National Guard🤩🤩🧡
Good old times
1:02 if someone ask for Joe, thats a trap 🤣
Pretty sure this guy made the original recordings you can find on UA-cam (first heard on cassette tape years ago).
they are on spotify too
I've never seen so much testosterone in a room.
Awesome
And the army raised their Port hands!..
This man talks in perfect pitch
1:53 You all will need both hands actually - guy in the background passing A HUMMER
Anyone notice the drunk guy in the back? Ciggy in the ear and a hammer in hand?
REAL ALPHA
🎶

Asong from back when it took two hours to trim the Sails, or lift anchor. 😀
I thought STARBOARD was on the right?
The look on her face when they're all leer cheering on the second shanty....
Should have done this with Marines. Roof would have flown off. Rah
Amen to that.
Nice
A shanty is a hut. A chantey is a song. Minus 1 point.
3:40 guys in the back dabbing
Cool 👍🏼
All those landlubbers confusing portside with starboard, pff! ;P
ENGLAND 🏴
I think I spied an angry cop in the background.
Lol I see my dad in this video😭
3 is a high number, but not for the national guard lmao
Who is that sad child in the back looking at his phone?
Comment from a vid led me to a comment of a vid led me to a comment of a vid led me here. Led me on foke.

songs of slaves from the sailing ship Mayflower
They seem reluctant because they're army national guard I guess, sea shanties are navy? I dunno...
2>49 oh no
Dip spit at 1:07
Those guys would fail at being on a ship singing shanties(the crownd, not the instructor)
3/10 for
St Patrick was English is you read the history.
Puddle Pirates
00:43 someone knows what happened?😂
jej same pijaki
That room is a hot fucking mess
