As someone who's owned 2 2000-2005 Toyota Celica's, they are the most unreliable engines Toyota has ever stuffed into a car. I'm a fan of Yamaha, but they DID NOT produce great engines for the GT and GTS
I got a 2005 tC new, it was one of the first couple thousand built. My, now, wife bought a 2006 because she liked mine so much. I loved mine, it was built really solidly and had zero problems while I had it. Heck, the hatch handle garnish never even broke. I've seen that there are some weak points with them over the years and my wife's car had a few minor issues that mine didn't. Rare for an early build car to be so good. The first gen was much better in my opinion. Toyota somehow managed to cheapen the tC and xB second generations yet also charge more for them. I would absolutely consider buying another one.
I have a 2nd gen, 2012. No major issues. It's been a great fun car, I plan on doing more performance mods, like a short ram, lowering springs, stuff like that. I've noticed 2nd gens are usually in better condition then the 1st gens.
I saw these TCs before release at a prelaunch in Summer of 03 around Tampa. These cars were super nice for what they were trying to be at the time. I had a Prelude at the time. But it still runs. Always liked the brand. Especially the xB and the TC.
I felt like the Scion TC was suppose to be the next Toyota Celica, but because they were pushing the Scion brand at that time, it was called the Scion TC.
That was only for the '07 to '10 tC's and '08 to '12 xB's because toyota decided to change the piston ring manufacturer halfway through production and that's how they got the notorious "oil consumption" issue, which for the vehicles that were affected, toyota replaced the motor for absolutely free
i wish i could add a pic of my 08. the 1st gens if they were in good shape looked pretty solid for what they are. ill stand by these cars for the rest of my life.
Ex-wife had a Scion TC when we were in college. It was actually a pretty cool car back in the day. I wouldn't call it a sports car but it was a sporty 2 door car. I had a first gen scion tC as my first car, it was a great little car and was great for learning to drive manaul on, I bought it with a little over 300,000 miles on it, it started out ok but let me tell you she started burning oil like crazy, eventually she would burn half her oil supply in about 2 hours of driving, lol still awesome little cars
I learned to drive stick in a first gen tc and I think they are one of the best first cars to get. Easiest car to learn to drive manual and cheap asf. My tc never burnt oil so maybe I got an anomaly but for 2-3k they are fun. They also have a surprising amount of torque for a 4 cyl. especially from that era.
The first car I bought new was the third tC in Atlanta. I get the reputation of these being abused by every weeb in the world but I actually really loved to drive in this car. Had good handling, a good manual to learn on, and I had a lot of trips on backroads just enjoying "sporty" driving.
I tried to buy two XB's and two TC's over the last 3 months I was car hunting and none of the sellers would even respond. These sellers are ridiculous.
I loved my XB...a truly unique and versatile car. But the TC never made much sense to me as it was too heavy...the 2.4 was ok but it was 3k pounds. The XB was only 2400! The rest of the scion models were nothing special at all. Unfortunately, scion tried too hard to distance itself from Toyota...as a salesman told me that most people had no idea who made scions and thus viewed them as a risky buy.
I had an 06 tC. I paid $16,000 for it brand new. It came with a decent fit it’s time 160hp engine, 4 wheel abs, 4 when disc brakes, power windows, power mirrors, dual moon roof, side mirror turn signal, mp3 cd stereo, 17” alloy wheels… Toyota reliability. It never pretended to be a sports car. It was a good commuter car that felt solid. I lost it in 2010 when an illegal alien slammed into it. $16,000 with all the features I mentioned from other manufacturers? Not going to happen. I should say nobody came close to the value that car brought.
Yea my buddy got an XD with the pioneer system from factory and they gave him a cd. He rly wasn’t into music. Was kinda a scientist kinda dude who I sold mass amounts of herb to
I was a lot boy at Toyota in 03-04 and this kid brought in his new Celica GT-S. Completely painted the huge dash white. The worst thing Ive seen to this day.
I lowkey was considering a TC as a daily driver just to drive until something blows kinda glad I moved past that phase. It’s a 2door Camry with less power than the v6. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still rock one, but I’d rather get a Mazda 3 hatch or Honda fit for a daily. If you’re looking at sports car, anything remotely jdm is too expensive. I’ll stick to murican junk for that.
All the 06-10 2.4L has issues with oiling. Should have had a 5qt oil pan Like the Chevy 2.5L in the 2015+ Colorado. You won't find the engines in the junkyard, they are $1600 for a referb engine. 80mph was 4000 rpm. Way too low of gearing with the 5 speed. Only thing was unless you put front and rear sway bars and some good struts, you'll not need more than the 127mph limit anyways.
shit honestly that red tc2 was a good deal, manual too. I drove to Montana years ago to buy one exactly like that and the wop shop that did the ppi didn’t bother to mention 3rd gear was fucked. Longest fucking drive, 20 hours round trip and had to cancel the check and shit

I was cruising down 78 in PA in my old 2013 ST. Passed one of these that was lowered amd had wheels. Guy tried to do a ricer fly by, I dropped it into 3rd and floored it. Popped the boost pipe off of my intercooler. Most embarrassing moment I'll ever experience.
Wopsicle is going in my vocabulary 😂😂😂
coming from someone who used to work at toyota back then trd stuff or trims was kinda rare but nowadays they got a trd for everything except for the rolla and i think either the rav 4 or highlander i remember one of them came into the shop and it was a trd i think it was definitely a newer rav 4 then they also have the trd pro’s
4:00 That came from the heart.
Scion TC was 16,500-18,000 MSRP back then GREAT PRICE NEW
Scion XB was 14-15k MSRP
Scion XA was 13K MSRP
I tried to buy two XB's and two TC's over the last 3 months I was car hunting and none of the sellers would even respond.
These sellers are ridiculous.
The seats look like they would be in a hotel lmao
the cuck chair
I think I've heard that TC from Liberty,NY farting along as I worked up there lol.
Scion TC ( Tinnitus Car )
I loved my XB...a truly unique and versatile car. But the TC never made much sense to me as it was too heavy...the 2.4 was ok but it was 3k pounds. The XB was only 2400! The rest of the scion models were nothing special at all. Unfortunately, scion tried too hard to distance itself from Toyota...as a salesman told me that most people had no idea who made scions and thus viewed them as a risky buy.
As a 1st gen owner, it's cheaper to buy a whole car for parts rather than buying the part you need alone.
having had a 2015 tC, it was a good, cheap, inconspicuous coupe, I wouldn't get another, but I did like it.
Should've had the 1995-1998 Jeff Gordon 24 car. 40 wins, 3 championships. Was a ridiculous span of time in NASCAR.
We really need a documentary style video on that MR2.
If I had a dollar for every time some kid in a scion tried to race me in my MR2 I'd have a bunch of dollars.
Was kinda a scientist kinda dude who I sold mass amounts of herb to
I’ve had a second gen for 10 years it’s my first car. Super reliable but ride quality is stiff asf.
Laugh all you want, but the Ford Contour SVT was fire.
Can't wait for that Honda Odyssey Type R.
Holy shit, CCF goin local tonight. Wakarusa like half an hour from where i live XD
I was a lot boy at Toyota in 03-04 and this kid brought in his new Celica GT-S. Completely painted the huge dash white. The worst thing Ive seen to this day.
feed can we get some old dtm cars other than bmw m3s? im fully convinced that theyre overpriced even more because "they know what they have"
And am one of the few mechanics who owns an 07 Tc with an extra engine I'm going to rebuild then rebuild the engine that's coming out lol
I test drove a TC and was very surprised at how much NVH they had.
I’ll stick to murican junk for that.
loved my 2.3 mazda3, same platform as the ford focus
Do one on the acura tsx
my bff has a tc with like 200k miles and its an absolute shitbox but we have some great memories in that little car
Have you guys listened to "Catalytic Burgler"? That shit hits hard
Say what you want, this was the best starter car in Racing Rivals
what you want
I'll tell you what I want... what I really really want.
