This was probably recorded on film still since digital wasn't really a thing yet. Film can look just as good as modern digital but you have to take time in restoring it, which most people won't do.

apparently they came up with 18 new tracks in the hopper....but at that point Layne was beyond being able to help write lyrics, let alone sing. More amazing music lost to DRUGS. It's infuriating.

Then I put on Mad Season one day and she looked at me and said "It sounds like AIC's singer but not their music." I had never been prouder! "Yes sweetie that is Layne in a different band." we never make anything alone and it's ultimate outcome will be what it maybe, I suppose I made my children listen to this music, because I listen(ed) to it. Often sometimes daily, almost as often as a cigarette, never in the car always here at home. When I-Tunes rolled out their replay option, my kids where fucked. I played Rooster 108 times non-stop during one of their summer days off. Music is has been and will always be my Church. We have to appreciate the living and remember the dead but not so sadly that we can not shine our own lights so that others may see.

It's the partnership between Barret and John that really sets mad season apart from the scene. I think John's blues background and Barret having that more groovy rhythm from Screaming Trees really drives that flavour of Mcready's guitar and Layne's vocals on top. IT's grunge but not as you know it. Criminal that we don't have more Mad Season music.

The industry was very different and recording was done in a studio not a laptop with affordable and efficient corrective software. Most modern artists are photoshopped versions of their true untalented selves....back then, you had to be the real McCoy!

Born & raised in SeaTown, I was fortunate to see everyone from
Mother Love Bone, Nirvana, PearlJam, Soundgarden, MudHoney,
SuperSuckers, Melvins, Screaming Trees, Candlebox, Temple of the Dog,
Alice in Chains in the late 80's thru mid 90's and this show, Mad
Seasons, standing just left of center balcony level. watching many
different band members from different bands descend down into their own
abiss and prisons, weakening physically, emotionally, and vocally, but
this was a very special night and show whereas a mutual appreciation
between band and audience grew as the night progressed, and you could
see a light on in Layne that i hadnt seen in some earlier AIC shows. It
was truly a magically time to be alive, and to witness one of Rock's
all time greats taken too soon from us.Enjoy and if you are suffering

I was readin your comment well N good, but welled up at the end man! Addiction, Mental health, extreme loneliness i cannot speak to ANYONE without exploding into a bubbling weak-ass, it makes me feel depressed more to realise i cant even talk bout how i feel daily dude!

    • @dgranite50
      @dgranite50 8 років тому +10

Thanks for your reply brother. I assume you have or are battling the disease of addiction? The first step is always to talk about it, it is a way to seek help and also find out your not alone in this. That is what has always helped me, as much as i hate those local meetings they are what kept me alive. They allowed me a place to go when temptation was high and to hear other peoples stories were similar to mine and i wasn't the freak i thought i was. Something needs to change in this society to wake up and help our own, there's an epidemic like we have never seen and so many good life's are lost daily. So much I want to say here but each person needs to first make that decision they are sick and tired of being sick and tired and face that huge fear of becoming clean and sober and believe me i know its the scariest thing you will ever face! and then seek help cause help more than likely isn't gonna find you, and when you have become clean and sober never forget where you came from and it only takes one time to get right back there even worse, make the choice to live, because if you don't stop you will end up 1. In jail 2. dead. But if you or anyone else that reads this is suffering and needs to talk or get info. don't hesitate to message me, we can talk private too if you wish, I wish you all the best because you do matter!

dgranite50 Hi man, thanks for the wee message bro, much appreciated!! yeah im in the midst of quite a severe dope habit mate! Ive been doing drugs most of my life, started with the usual, Marijuana/ Hash at bout 13ish, then onto LSD, Amphetamines, XTC & Trax,..Valium, Temazepam, Xanax, Nitrazepam etc, etc! Got into a bit of everything by age 17. But i didnt start with Opiates till bout 19/20ish man!! The one drug thats really robbed me of years N years is the Heroin though bro! Even the Freebase Cocaine, as powerful as it is hasn't took a toll on my health as much as the Smack dude! Being put on a prescription of Valium N Methadone by age 21 wasn't such a good thing to happen, as good & helpful as it seemed at the time man. I have been clean B4, and i think i'll do it again bud its just its been a hell of a few years, especially losing a few close family members in quick succession! This was my "Cop-Out", once i started using again i just seemed to lose any pep i had for hobbies & life in general matey. I just need to get a hold of things again, but Good-God its a hard life at times mate1 As im sure you'll know??, again i just want to say a BIG thanks for your kind, sagee words of wisdom sir, REALLY appreciated indeed dude!! Shit bro i just wrote out a long ass reply and somehow erased it, ha. But basically was saying No problem and always want to help out anyway I can. I can relate in all aspects of your situation, Tried and done everything, and likewise wasn't till opiates that i found the one to rob everything from me including my soul, leaves you nothing but a shell of a man and merely existing. I have had and made up every excuse also for why i used or couldn't stop. I would be glad to exchange email or whatever if you would like some info. or just to b.s.Hope to find you well and was gonna ask if you all have a Suboxone or Subutex Program over there? I did read you tried the Methadone with Benzos like Valium and wasn't successful, I tried that also but am a bigger fan of Suboxone as long as it is accompanied by some counseling or intensive outpatient program at least. I dont believe either Suboxone or Methadone should just be prescribed or dosed without more involvement. This is a very complicated disease my friend that we cant fight on our own and need professional help, to help us understand our addictions from a medical and psychological aspect and deal with any underlying mental, physical issues from past or present and the program makes us take some accountability for ourselves and actions. It's a "medicated" chance to get off the smack for awhile and takes away 90%+ withdrawals and that "Itch", in the back of your mind you always get to use again. If that doesn't seem to work, next suggestion if practical financially in any way for ya is to check into Inpatient treatment, if its gonna take getting away from your surrounding environment, and people, using friends, and i use the word" Friends" loosely in that as majority, if not all of them don't have your best interest and thats part of the scary part is when you finally decide to do this and be successful long-term you Have to change all those things, your environment.... places you go.... cut ties to using friends and for me that meant everyone i knew, you feel more alone then ever doing it, but believe me if you reach out to the Recovery meeting or places in your area, they welcome you in and will accept you and majority will have your best interest, and that feels amazing and you build a new group of friends that you only hang out with when you got dough or drugs. alright I'm gonna shutup now, haha. And btw my dads side of the family is from Scotland, grandfather's from Galasheils I believe and have cousins still there, but a few have moved to Australia as I'm sure you have known a few too also. Peace to u N yours also.. Take care...

Hey mate, Just wanna start by saying a big sorry 4 the lateness in my reply man, been a bit hectic recently dude!!
But thanks for the friendly words of advice brother,..mucho appreciated indeed sir!! Seems were quite alike, tried, done & used EVERY excuse 4 EVERY illicit substance dude??!!,..lol!!
Like you say, its the Opiates that seem to take their toll on me, well anybody who uses 4 years anyhoo man!, and yeah, your also correct it just leaves a husk of your former self mate!! Oh, yeah, i've heard of Suboxone/ Subutex thing, i know a few folk who've used em in the past & they do seem to have more success than other Opioids such as Methadone, Dihydrocodeine etc, etc man. But i've been on Meth for 18+ years now & as horrid as it is i dunno if i could switch over??, its become such a "safety blanket" so ta speak mate. It takes the chaoticness outta my life, if that makes any sense ta ya bro??,...No cramps, aching limbs, vomiting, sniffles, hot N cold flushes etc, etc!!
It is extremely counter productive, being on a Methadone/Valium script but still blasting myself to "smacksville, UK" whenever i get the chance dude,..lol,..lol!!, i know i shouldn't laugh but, hey, as i aye say if you dont laugh you'll cry ma man. Also when it comes to the old routine & old mates thing thats not really an issue as TBH i dont see anyone at all from my old days bro, all my mates are worse off than me drug/ health-wise, no veins due to shooting incorrectly, using crack all day,..every day, stealing, lying, robbing etc,..or in jail, but the lads i went bout with also got long - time girlfriends, well if they can be classed as girlfriends??!! Their away off with other dudes as soon as the money becomes scarce, or a "better" drug user comes on the scene!!, then, benefit/money day their back together & full of part-time love,..lol!!,..madness!! Tbh mate, i'd much rather be on my own, at least i know where & who i stand with!! Me & my brother were VERY, VERY close all our lives but he's now with a girlfriend & doing their own thing so after years of us being inseparable i'm on my own, rattling around a 3 bedroom house mate!
The isolation & boredom usually mean several things to me,...drugs, oblivion & numbness dude! Like i say i was clean not too long ago, like a year past last summer, as in the summer of 2015 i was running almost a half marathon daily,..mon - fri, around 62/63 miles per week. As well as my fishing, cycling & just getting out & about as i had money in my pockets etc!, so hopefully i can get outta this lifestyle & be more productive again mate! A, ha,..Galashiels??, i've had many a crazy night out their on the bevy in the past, i stay in Penicuik bro, just up the road really!! Where i stay is known as the "Lothian & the Borders" region & Gala is the borders Penicuik is the biggest town in Midlothian,..lol!! Also 1 of my older brothers stays in Peebles & another of my brothers used to stay in Innerleithen,..these 2 towns are part of the Borders along with Jedburgh, Hawick, which are very close to Galashiels dude,..lol,...Penicuiks only about 45 mins in the car from Gala, small world!! I know quite a few folk from Gala, like i say some mad - ass capers down that way on the booze, LSD, XTC, Amphetamines, Mushrooms etc, etc, etc as a younger lad,..lol,..lol!!
Again thanks for your sage, kind words & sorry again for the late reply sir!!
Regards & warmest wishes fi Scotland, UK bro,..Pete!!

    Lifeless dead, that unclean bed
Till or when her hunger's fed
How he'd wished that they would wed
"I promise on our love" she said
    Promises were never kept
Alone on dirty floor he slept
    Yeah, Lifeless Dead
    And although he'd not accept
She was gone and so he wept
Then a demon came to him
"You must know I'm gonna win"
    Yeah, Lifeless Dead
    He said, she said
    She led him dead
    He said we bled
    She said not fed

" Alone on dirty floor he slept...","Then a demon came to him, you must know I'm gonna win" lyrics that cut deep to my heart & soul! Soulless trash gets airplay for the youth of today. Sad. Layne's music with both Mad Season & AIC will always be some of my favorite all time. It means even more to me these days because his music helped me stay sane when I had my own struggles with opiates for a few years, and still helps me after 3+ years clean. Always thought this album was definitely some of Layne's best work, partly because he had total creative freedom writing all the lyrics and everything. The entire band was great though, definitely one of the best/most innovative albums of the past 20+ years. It's crazy because if you look at reviews of this album from Rolling Stone/AllMusic/etc. pretty much all of them give pretty negative reviews.. Yet the ratings by normal people online are pretty much all 5 stars. Most of these "professional" music critics wouldn't know good music if it slapped them in the face lol.

Such a great and powerful singer despite of the massive heroin problem (hence the gloves to hid the hand track marks). Still one of the best singers of our time.
