60 years and Carl Lamley would still be proud of what he founded 60 years ago and what it has become today, Happy 60 years Studio Tour and as they say in California: "Hooray For HOLLYWOOD!".
As someone who would go to Universal a LOT when I was little and who LOVES the studio tour I just always love seeing these videos bc thankful I was able to witness a lot of the later growth of universal while still having memories of the old defunct parts of universal that I look back at fondly today😭💖 (wasn’t around for the really old stuff lol but Universal looked VERY different when I use to go compared to now!)
Some fun Spielberg-related facts about the tour: • The Orca boat originally used in the film Jaws was featured in the Jaws portion of the tour. Sadly, it was allowed to rot and was thrown out, which really upset Spielberg. • The War of the Worlds set is a real Boeing 747 crashed and stripped and used in the film. • In the distance of this set stood the worker’s village building from The Lost World which was left to rot for years. It sadly has been finally removed. • I also swear they added the JP3 Spinosaurus statue that used to stand outside of Jurassic Park the Ride to the JP part of the tour, but I could be wrong.
I’m so grateful to have seen the original kong scene when he ‘grabs’ the tram, it honestly left me speechless, I had no idea going in that we would see something that massive
I had season passes at Universal Hollywood from 1994 to late 1996 while I was in college (I was surprised from your other video that the Jurassic Park ride didn't open until mid-1996. I Mandela-effected myself into believing it opened much earlier, as I know I rode it a ton while I still had the passes). I LOVED it. One of our favorite things was to grab a few beers and chat with (and good-naturedly mess with) the tour guide (back in those days, the season pass gave you basically a fast pass onto many of the rides, including the tram tour, but not Jurassic Park). Also note that the Dante's Peak version of the ice tunnel was exactly as you'd expect -- still the spinning tunnel, but painted black, orange, red, and yellow. The effect still played though, so no real complaints. Also, the broken bridge was alive and well then -- and the effect was forgettable even back then -- a quickly-reset bridge that gave you a small drop-scare. I then went a few years after I got married in 1999 -- I think it was around 2000/2001 -- and it was still decent, but definitely missing some of the charm. Adding the video screens into the tram didn't help matters, and season passes no longer got any benefits outside of being able to go to the park. I went at some point in a year between 2009 and 2012 or so (I genuinely don't remember when). Jurassic Park was still great, but the Kong attraction had unfortunately been replaced by the digital thing. And the Back to the Future ride had been replaced by the Simpsons ride. If this had happened 5 years earlier, I would have been stoked (was an immense Simpsons fan until about season 11) -- but by this point, it was cool, but no replacement for Back to the Future. Also, no more Backdraft. No more ET. Just a forgettable experience all around. Finally went in 2017 and LOATHED it. A 2 1/2 hour line to get to the tram (in 1995, with the pass, I was used to waiting 10 minutes max). The Kong Experience thing... fine. But that laughable and terrible Fast and the Furious thing. Coupled by the Jimmy Fallon crap just ruined the tram tour. Nevermind that at that point, my wonderful JP ride now had some sad looking dinosaurs (one of the long necks at the front of the ride literally had a bent neck). Only good thing I got out of that visit was a Duff Beer cup. I actually had a lot more fun during the Warner Bros tour, despite that obviously having no ride elements. Now that it sounds like they're moving back away from the digital nonsense, I may go back at some point. I've been a fan of the tour for 30 years now, and would hate to lose it as something I love.
One thing you didn’t mention that im sad about is they “updated” the earthquake show part. That took away some of the electricity effects and took away a lot of that nostalgic 80s charm it had with the repaint too. Loved this video though!
Wha? A lot of studios offer backlot tours. You can still go to one at Warner which you can literally see from Universal. It's a great tour. I'd recommend it (though it's more of a dry "this is stuff from movies/shows" tour rather than a ride experience)

The Animatronic Kong inspired Spielberg to make the robotic dinosaurs for Jurassic Park in 93

Love this keep up the videos bro 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Loved this video, I didn’t know a lot of this stuff and universal has always been my go to theme park having grown up in LA
Thanks! I remember the falling rocks from the 70s when I was a kid. You could also mention the War of the Worlds set.
I was lucky enough to have gotten go to Universal Studios Hollywood a few months before the fire at the King Kong experience 😢
The Battle of Galactica was awesome!!!
Harper Goff also designed the original boats for Disneylands Jungle Cruise. Both had the stripes on the awnings
The ice tunnel was in the six million dollar man
Great job
Nice footage. 😅
Credit in the description 🫡👏thanks for saving all the lovely footage.
