As a huge Disney fan, and growing up in a Disney park family, I went on this ride with a friend back in 2004, and at the time, it was the greatest ride I’d ever been on. To this day, my favorite part is the pumpkin bomb explosion
15:57 I will never forget the thrill I felt when I saw that real fire ball on this ride. I remember that being the final element that made me think “okay this is definitely the best ride I’ve ever been on” I think I couldn’t have been any older than 10, was already having a blast from all the near misses and when I felt the heat from that fire it was just the best kind of adrenaline rush Come to think of it, it made me feel the way all 3D movies want you to feel, like you forgot where you were and that it’s possible for these things to hurt you.
Mmmm I love heavily screen based rides with literally one good effect ❤❤❤ (fully ignores the eye of Mara on Temple of the Forbidden Eye shooting a laser and causing a fire effect like this but also having full 3D sets….)
“Just watch the Defunctland Garfield video” he says like his audience isn’t 100000% the people who have already watched it 18 times I love this channel and I love your delivery method, and those little humorous moments 💙
I am excited to see if Monster Unchained or Battle for the Ministry at Epic Universe might be the next step in dark rides. Universal is promising a lot with those rides
Only a few rides you come off have your jaw on the floor and this for sure is one. You not just ride besides tableaus as a spectator but are part of the scene and the action. Thank you for this amazing video.
With my wife having a limited number of ride types she'll actually ride, this ride was perfect! We went to Universal for the very first time last year and I think I lost count on how many times we would ride this. Our very last day we made sure to get on the last ride of the night and I loved seeing how happy she was riding it.
Damn. What a great video essay. I watch a lot of theme park insider videos like Defunctland and Yesterworld, and I have to say, your channel is already among my favorites. Great footage, great narration, great research. Keep it right the hell up.
This is one of my favourite rides, if not my absolute favourite ride in the world! The free fall at the end is one of the most convincing simulated moments I’ve had the chance to experience. Great video by the way!
GOOD VIDEO!!!!!! I really enjoy when people talk about things that they love and it’s actually pretty rare that people in the theme park community do that so this vid was super refreshing! Keep up the good work :D
Awesome video! This ride is a large part of why Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. Being born in 1992, this ride affected me more than the movies due to coming out before.
To me the closest rides to come as immerssive and new step in tech is Flight of Passage and Forbidden Journey. Both, just like AAoSM, I went in blind never seeing POV's or any explanation on how they worked, and each blew me away. I'm hoping to go into Epic Universe the same way, because I can definitely see Battle of Ministry being that new step. Sadly the internet has spoiled the ride tech a little but hopefully I can make myself forget it by the time I make it to the park. 😅
This video essay on The Amazing Spider-Man Ride was excellent. I agree, nothing has quite hit the mark in terms of the innovation and all the elements the ride offers. The ride packs with so much and overall is one of the best dark rides in Orlando. I'm excited to see what Epic Universe has to offer in the coming months, since the new Harry Potter ride Ministry of Magic will have this Spider-Man technology but way more advanced! Again, excellent work on this video!
That first time on Spider-Man at Islands of Adventure is still the single best theme park moment of my life. That ride is pure magic, and there’s only a few built since that can really compete.
this is a fantastic analysis for an amazing (haha) ride. it was great in 99 and it'll be great in another ten years, hopefully. great video you're so smart and clever!
Amazing video essay on the Spider-Man ride at Universal! I would consider it BETTER than some of Disney's dark rides. Hopefully, the upcoming attractions for Epic Universe will be at the same level of quality 🙏
I think you did great with the video! Love hearing more people express interest into Theme Parks! We do travel and Theme Park videos so you got a new Subscriber from us!
Just subbed! Loved this video and your style, in an age where a lot of theme park youtubers are constantly bashing Disney and Universal, it's nice to see more videos made out of love for the parks!
Awesome video! I’ve felt for the past few years I’ve visited the Orlando Parks there’s been something missing from the newer rides, and it’s that balanced blend of an exciting story, impactful scenes and thrilling movements that Spider-Man perfected. Newer rides like Forbidden Journey and Rise have a lot of these elements but their scenes are a little too rushed or empty at times while Spider-Man paced it much better. Excited to see if Epic Universe will step up the dark ride game!
Fantastic video and I love your channel! I have unfortunately not been able to ride Spider-Man (it was closed for refurb on my visit!) but I've seen many videos discussing it. I think the Universal ride that blew me away the most was Escape from Gringotts, but I'm not sure that's considered a dark ride? It is a strange one in my opinion because it's not quite roller coaster but not quite dark ride. I'm a long time WDW fan, but I completely agree that while Rise is an awesome ride, it didn't feel like it pushed the tech forward as much as it was touted. I also question the reliability/up time of trackless vehicles at this stage. I don't have any hard data on that but they just feel like they go down more often? I am a huge fan of dark rides and I LOVE that they are not being left in the dust as we develop new technology. Excited for the future of theme parks and I can't wait to see the rides at Epic Universe. Also excited to see your future videos on some of these topics. Cheers!
I always loved how Peter screamed “DONT”. Man wasn’t just concerned,he was reliving the night Gwen Stacy’s spine just did that thing for no discernible reason.
The intersection of the ride film and the practical ladder titling is unironically my favorite part. It’s so subtle you almost think the ladder is part of the film.
@ it's the one thing other rides like ironically transformers misses. For a series reliant on Robots in disguise it seldom takes advantage of the then decade old technology
Another channel tried to claim that JP river adventure was THE headlining attraction when it opened, but for anyone who went back then (including me), this was the real draw. And the Hulk. Compared to the near walk-on this is now, the lines then were massive, even years after opening. And yet, it's just as incredible an experience now. In a park full of the same genre of dark ride, it still stands out. Only Forbidden Journey has eclipsed it.
River Adventure was far easier to describe to media so it got a lot of coverage because of it but those who knew the industry knew that Spiderman was aiming for something new
Idk how you can say Rise of the Resistance didn’t push the dark ride system even further. It’s by far the most immersive ride you can get on at any park and exceeds Spiderman in ever way. Spiderman is amazing but Rise’ use of practical effects over screens and immersion is top notch
They are using the SCOOP vehicle in the new Harry Potter ride at Universals Epic Universe. I think that in that ride Universal is going to evolve the vehicle once again.
The Goddard Group’s first version of this ride was a Superman ride that essentially was the same plot and track back when IoA was known as Cartoon World and had a DC area.
Spiderman is still a ride you cn rise over and over again snd not get bored. I'm sad to say that when it originally came out, I was more interested in rising the hulk over and over again and didn't rise as e Spiderman until we took my kids there in around 2016
Unpopular opinion, I never cared for it much. I thought it was okay but way over hyped. The ride vehicle was cool, and enjoyed the physical sets and special effects, but the screens and glasses too me out of it. I wish they used animatronics instead. Would have taken it from a mediocre ride, to one of the best in the park. However, after islands opened, we definitely preferred universal over Disney.
I love The spider Man ride at Islands of Adventure but I wouldn't necessarily call it perfecting the dark ride. It's a different experience which seems like magic when it's paired with other dark ride experiences. but this over reliance on screens and the the same ride system is becoming stale. And the Avengers ride at Disneyland still hasn't even opened... It's becoming one note, over saturated and the magic is losing it's luster.
As a huge Disney fan, and growing up in a Disney park family, I went on this ride with a friend back in 2004, and at the time, it was the greatest ride I’d ever been on. To this day, my favorite part is the pumpkin bomb explosion
Mmmm I love extremely screen based attractions… /s
Disney sucks.
25 years later, Spider-Man is STILL a Wonderful, top-notch ride!
Quarter century old and still winning awards is not something most rides can say
15:57 I will never forget the thrill I felt when I saw that real fire ball on this ride. I remember that being the final element that made me think “okay this is definitely the best ride I’ve ever been on”
I think I couldn’t have been any older than 10, was already having a blast from all the near misses and when I felt the heat from that fire it was just the best kind of adrenaline rush

That fireball always seems to wow everyone in the scoop, also really nice on a rare cold day in Orlando
Mmmm I love heavily screen based rides with literally one good effect ❤❤❤ (fully ignores the eye of Mara on Temple of the Forbidden Eye shooting a laser and causing a fire effect like this but also having full 3D sets….)
i agree! it felt like i was really in the comic book!
“Just watch the Defunctland Garfield video” he says like his audience isn’t 100000% the people who have already watched it 18 times
I love this channel and I love your delivery method, and those little humorous moments 💙
I am excited to see if Monster Unchained or Battle for the Ministry at Epic Universe might be the next step in dark rides. Universal is promising a lot with those rides
Promising a lot but also not getting into specifics, can't wait to see what they really have in store!
This ride has aged like a fine wine.
Great video! I always say Spider-Man is a top 3 ride at universal and was just as happy as u to see it win an award in ‘24 🕸️
I rode the original version in 2003 and this attraction still amazes me to this day with how it pushes theme park technology to the peak
It's rare to say a ride is still in amazing shape even a decade past it's last major refurb but Spiderman does it
Only a few rides you come off have your jaw on the floor and this for sure is one. You not just ride besides tableaus as a spectator but are part of the scene and the action. Thank you for this amazing video.

Been subbed since toon lagoon. Glad to see you progressing. You have a well deserved spot in the theme park UA-cam team :))
GOOD VIDEO!!!!!! I really enjoy when people talk about things that they love and it’s actually pretty rare that people in the theme park community do that so this vid was super refreshing! Keep up the good work :D
a 31 minute video on the amazing adventures of Spider-Man?? YES PLEASE.
*nice shades,* *say cheese,* *i mean, good luck*
Im genuinely sorry 😭
Awesome video! This ride is a large part of why Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. Being born in 1992, this ride affected me more than the movies due to coming out before.
Same. (I first rode it in December 2012, nearly a year after its massive 4K refurbishment)
To me the closest rides to come as immerssive and new step in tech is Flight of Passage and Forbidden Journey. Both, just like AAoSM, I went in blind never seeing POV's or any explanation on how they worked, and each blew me away. Can't wait to see what Epic Universe brings even though I know opening day is going to be crazy!
That first time on Spider-Man at Islands of Adventure is still the single best theme park moment of my life. That ride is pure magic, and there’s only a few built since that can really compete.
Yay! I've found a new theme park channel to binge. Thanks for the awesome video!
Glad you like it!
this is a fantastic analysis for an amazing (haha) ride. it was great in 99 and it'll be great in another ten years, hopefully. great video you're so smart and clever!
Appreciate it!

Thanks for the kind words!
Seeing the Kennywood old mill right at the beginning gave me whiplash
You deserve your flowers. Glad to be here before you get big lol
these videos are underrated
Excellent video. The thing about AAoS, is all the little things together that it gets right.
Exactly! There's so many small details that Spiderman puts together to make a fantastic dark ride. Also GKG!
I still think this is the best dark ride ever made. It is a win from start to end and nobody does anything close even in the modern age.
greatest ride of all time.
Awesome video! I’ve felt for the past few years I’ve visited the Orlando Parks there’s been something missing from the newer rides, and it’s that balanced blend of an exciting story, impactful scenes and thrilling movements that Spider-Man perfected. Thanks for the kind words! I also love that the art of a good dark ride hasn't been fully lost as the industry moved forward!
I always loved how Peter screamed “DONT”. Man wasn’t just concerned,he was reliving the night Gwen Stacy’s spine just did that thing for no discernible reason.
As a big Spider-Man fan, I've always wanted to go on this ride. Hopefully someday...
The Batman vs Penguin ride kinda became Dueling Dragons
Yeah kinda... still didn't get to ride that one either... not mad about it though... seriously
The intersection of the ride film and the practical ladder titling is unironically my favorite part. It’s so subtle you almost think the ladder is part of the film.
I love that they made that moment the introduction to the screens to show they weren't just making you watch a big TV
@ it's the one thing other rides like ironically transformers misses. For a series reliant on Robots in disguise it seldom takes advantage of the then decade old technology
Perfected the dark ride as long as you wipe Fast and Furious and Kong from your memory :D
Another channel tried to claim that JP river adventure was THE headlining attraction when it opened, but for anyone who went back then (including me), this was the real draw. And the Hulk. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL ❤

I’m excited for Monsters Unchained. Looks like Spider-Man 2.0.
Really hope that this ride doesn’t get taken down because of any Disney/marvel rights issues or contract expirations
As long as Universal holds the contract, and keeps the area maintained and working, Marvel Island isn't going anywhere.
The Goddard Group’s first version of this ride was a Superman ride that essentially was the same plot and track back when IoA was known as Cartoon World and had a DC area.
Crazy the dude that voiced jjj and Spiderman also voices pathfinder in apex legends and the computer from the movie passengers
It's crazy that this ride was one of his earliest gig's in the voice acting world too
Amazing Video 🎇
Thanks!
They added Stan Lee to the ride and it’s perfect ❤
Peter Pan and Spiderman are the best dark rides 💯
Besides fast and furious supercharge I can definitely agree universal definitely perfected The dark Ride genre
Spiderman is still a ride you cn rise over and over again snd not get bored. I'm sad to say that when it originally came out, I was more interested in rising the hulk over and over again and didn't rise as e Spiderman until we took my kids there in around 2016
As the high priest in the Church of Spider-Man, I approve of this video
Ooh! Welcome!
Excellent
11:02 - wait that's the actual name of it? I just thought it was an arbitrary name the ride and the queue gave it
I mean it was the in story name the ride gave to it but because it was the first use of the system it stuck!
@@B-Mode yea, that's what i was saying... i didnt know that, all these years of riding it as a kid lol
31 min? Not long enough 😉 best ride EVER
Oh god I love this ride but I hate where gonna eventually lose it and the entire marvel island because Disney and all where gonna have left is web
Haunted mansion is still my favorite dark ride
Super hero island will always be better than marvel Campus imo
Anyone know why they chose scream as a villain ?
She was never in the cartoon and is definitely not a top tier villain
😮😮😮
goob voob
Sucks they got rid of this in Japan. Least they kept Jaws
Dream vacation
Yeah I love the Spider-Man ride
🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️

I still can’t tell what JJJ’s saying @ 25:53 lol
25:54 did he just say the “r” word?
Nice sweater 😂
Only took 3 trips to the park to find it in my size lol
I love The spider Man ride at Islands of Adventure but I wouldn't necessarily call it perfecting the dark ride.
