My wife and I were in Rome in September and walked the same streets; so proud of the Marching Pirates; they sound great. It was an emotional experience watching.
I just want to take the time to say how much I appreciate this. As an African American raised in Europe you never get to see your own culture represented in anything! What most African Americans, don't realize, is that there are so many of us living in Europe, especially in UK, Netherlands, France, and Spain who are not military affiliated. We are never represented in anything! Like most African Americans living abroad, you speak the local language fluently, so people just assume you're an African immigrant who's lived there a long time. The minute they hear you speak English with your family, they all of a sudden want to relate to you by suddenly becoming "urban" and say stuff like."my nigga". So strange, but anyways like 2 years ago, Alcorn's Golden Girls had a clip that went viral, and the anger white people had that black people had their own universities was astonishing. So many people would ask, " why do they have their own university.....segregation is over......white's should be allowed to attend...etc". Then you have to explain the whole history of HBCUs. Then they get it, but it's exhausting to ALWAYS have to explain and define being African American. By marching in this parade, you don't know how much of a seed you planted. Now people will begin to ask questions. WHy is the entire band black? What is a hampton University? ? African American's attend college? There are black colleges? What's an HBCU? Here's living proof that it exists! I felt especially proud because my parents now live in the Virginia, about 15 mins from HU. I was SOOOOOO happy to hear the accent.
Thank You HAMPTON UNIVERSITY for the great job that you did in Italy. You represented our HBCUS WELL. Every time, any HBCU BANDS perform anywhere, you are our AMBASSADORS to the WORLD. WE THANK YOU. 💯💖💯👍
Nice to see other HBCU's traveling globally !!! Hampton good job.... I still remember the battles against yall in the Meadowlands back in the 92-94 Much respect from Gram Fam!!!
My school showed up and showed out! Way to go! Can't imagine how much effort went into getting them all over there. Crowd control should've been tighter though. One of the flag corps members had to maneuver around a spectator. Anyhoo, proud of y'all! Proud of my school! ❤ #ClassOf92 #Quintessence
I didn't know HBCU bands went to other countries. That's great. They are so talented. Side note: Italian men usually love black women so they must've been losing their minds...lol!
As a former marching pirate that marched from 98 to 01, I'm so glad to see our band return to greatness. You all made not only our "Home by the Sea" proud, but the HBCU community proud by being the first HBCU marching band to participate in Rome's new year parade. Keep it up Marching Pirates, you look good, sound good and doing great things. I know you will go hard at the Honda battle of the bands today!
Outstanding job Marching Force! Dr. Jones, I applaud you for the magnificent work youre doing with these student/musicians. I look forward to continued greatness 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I swear, I can tell it’s an American marching band just by the way the drums sound. I don’t think other country’s use quads or the bass drums in a way that American bands do. I might be wrong on this, but I really don’t think so.
You must keep in mind that they haven't seen anything quite like this before. It is not part of their culture, thus they appeared recerved. I can see they enjoyed it! I have to give it to the band, those streets are tricky to walk on much less march on!
This was so epic! HBCU's are coming up in the world! This was a great highlight that we talked about in our pilot episode of our podcast where we talk about all things black band culture! #blowinghotair
HAMPTON’UNIVERSITY’S MARCHING FORCE IS THE PREMIER EXTRAORDINAIRE ❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW NSU COMMENT SAYS IT ⭐️ALL “A BOSS MOVE” OH YEA! BOSS OF ALL BOSSES⭐️
I remember seeing HU Marching Band perform at Livingstone College the last year they were in the CIAA. Man a funky cadence when they were marching in to Alumni Stadium that day..good memories
So damned fabulous!!!!! Love seeing this. My brother, Eric Taylor, was a drummer for Virginia State University from ‘78-82. He would loved to have seen these beautiful young people doing their thing, in Italy no less. REPRESENT BLACK PEOPLE
Please do tell, what do the Italians think about way the fantastic drum majors doing their thing? What do they think of the entire show and how Southern Bands represent? I know how I feel...they're awesome! The 3rd song is my favorite (they're all fantastic) the trombones were kicking some ass!
And on this day, Rome first hand saw The Black College Band Experience.
Nahhhhh them dancers wasn't pop lockin lol they spared them LMAO.
@@jahmarimartin2333 Nigga they in one of the holiest places in the world. chill

Wow, this is crazy! Glad you were able to witness this!!
Very interesting, thank you
Some whites do attend HBCUs.
“Why is the entire band black?” Yet, no one asks the question, “Why are entire PWI (predominantly white institutions) bands white?”
Thank you
Hampton is definitely one of the under exposed bands here on UA-cam
Congratulations Hampton! I'm an SU fan but I'm happy to see any HBCU accomplish great things. Hope it was a great experience for you.
