    most people get a van spend most of the cash on the interior, many just take for granted the machanics an think it will be ok with a service.

      @@jimsmith-d3l I can appreciate this - we did have some rainy day money, we spent £550 on a service comfortably, and £650 on a new alternator belt/power steering fluid pump, we also managed to pay our AA renewal, and 2k on insurance.. but then yeah, the 8k new engine and gear box and turbo (potentially) did sneak up on us a bit :P

    If there is no oil in the engine. You should never turn the engine on.
    Could just be the bottom of the sump has corroded, can be replaced.
    If its oil coming out the headgasket or a crack in the cylinder. You'll likely wanna buy a new engine. Repair costs will be the same if not exceed the cost of a new engine.
    Sorry to hear this has happened.

    Not a lot of thought goes into this does it ! What am I getting taught here ? Your going to live in a van then prioritise the van being mechanically sound before you chuck all your dosh into the interior............ oh its ok I'll beg for money to make the work properly.....

    • @onroutetonowhere
      @onroutetonowhere  7 днів тому

      @@davidjohnson5369 thanks for your empathic message!! Not all of our dosh has been thrown inside the van.. we were doing what we could and showed the van to three separate garages for inspections with suspect noise, NONE of them noticed the 3 bolts loose on the steering fluid pump which took our alternator belt when it loosened, which subsequently we had the money for. We also paid for regular services, our insurance, living etc and were on the CUSP of getting out on the road & taking up work opportunities we’d both been cooking up. But now we’ve gotta get this done, and yes I’ll admit, the timing is ruddy awful, we didn’t expect a £6-8,000 engine replacement on an 150k mile engine where it seems a random rod went and pierced a hole in the block. Not anything that could be prevented, the mechanics say.
      On top of that, it’s clear to see that both myself and SJ in our separate videos are at pain with asking for donations, because we recognise that it could appear we’ve been short-sighted and not prepared for this ‘freak’ scenario. If it was a 1,200 turbo I wouldn’t be asking. I could find that. I just can’t find 6-8k and know that the power of the internet and community can be wonderful, and have participated in it for others out there - so yeah, we came here and begged, if that’s how you wanna say it 🙄
