I love how you frequently say, "I'm not going to do that", and then after just a short moment, it turns into, "I'll just feel better if I do that". It's all a process, and the work speaks and tells you what it needs from you. Keep up the great work!

I'm happy that i don't have to have other formats to see Buckin.
    UA-cam is freakin great.
I can watch Billy Cobham play drums from 1975 with the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
I can watch John Bonham live
    with the led zep ....
I can try and keep up with the history of the wood bullet as it evolves.
Couldn't be more happy for being just a buck private in the Buckin Army.

Must prove myself worthy before being promoted.
Besides remaining in the private ranks for another year will give me more time to goof off.
Thanks for your confidence and positive energy. From across the pond you bring good vibes to fellas like me here in the states. If i make it to Buckinstock, i will take the test to elevate myself to private 1st class. Until then I'm just a Buck, young buck not quite, old Buck with some gumption left, the Buck stops here.💪😊. 🪶🔥🍀🌱🎸

So STOKED you're on the practice steel! The Wood Bullet is going to be nuts! When you go to make the real thing, I think that Tim fellow might be on to something with the old railroad ties. Obviously have never checked the pricing on old railroad ties, but I have a short section as a mini-anvil in the shop, and it's sure made of hard steel. Good luck on figuring out your tools, and get that arm better! (I was cringing for you when you were going after some of those knotty maple rounds the other day).
ps. Finally picked up some of those triangular files after I saw you using them, and by golly do they make a sharp tooth. Ran 4 tanks through the 462 today on snotty dead madrone and oak, and the chain was still finger slicing sharp when I finished.

By drilling the holes for the dowels, it allows the glue to be run through the holes and into the void easily. As you saw when he clamped the butt of the handle in the vise, there was plenty of squeeze out from every portion of the crack.

They should be 4140 or 4340. Very tough, oil quench. Good for axes according to google search.
I've had good luck with a little axe i made from a rivet buster chisel that I quenched in water. I hit the edge of an H beam a few times quite hard and it made some deep cuts with no sign of abuse on the little axe. Although it might shatter later on...

Just had the palm swell crack on me last night as I was hammering the wedge in. Unfortunately I could not save mine as it actually chipped off in multiple pieces. I think it weakened by hitting it so much to try and fit the head that ultimately it just crumbled when it came time to sink the wedge. I think some of these skinny handles we have to be more careful with. Live and Learn!
