  • In this video I am going to show you how I forged a quite unique hewing axe/adze for Erik Grankvist. I also had the pleasure to go and visit him at his cabin where he tried the tool out.
Hope you enjoy the video :)

As an older timber framer I want to thank you guys for keeping the skills alive and well. I have a few axes from Gransfor Buk that I’ve had mixed results with but the ones you’re turning out look great!

An amazing adze. The final scene where two superb craftsmen enjoy a few moments together as a reward was a fitting final moment. I have been watching Erik’s work from the start. Well done both of you.🏆👍 Watching from Australia.😁

I really enjoy that you choose to make woodworking axes because they are all unique and have a specialized purpose compared to felling axes. Also when you upset the metal does it cry lol.

Nice one mate!! Looks the goods! Anytime you feel like coming "down under" we'll chuck a few extra snags on the barby, maybe even a shrimp or two!! Of course a few tinnies on ice won't go astray.... an yarn away the evening! Just one question mate, how do your addze perform on eucalyptus wood?? Got a bit of spotty gum I need to whittle down a bit for a keel of a boat.... cheers, from the land down under.....

Nice adze. You might consider shortening the handle so you can straddle the log and swing between your legs. I find this to be a much more comfortable and efficient angle at which to use an adze for this purpose.

Question though, keeping your drift inside the heated axe for so long, does it not start to soften the drift?

    •  Рік тому +1

Depends what steel you are using for the drift. My drifts are generally made out of 4340, i have use it under the power hammer for months and have uet to see it deform
