The ##10 series John Deere tractors were a game changer when they came on the market. In South Texas where I grew up, Farmall tractors ruled the market for years. People didn't like the hand clutch on the two-cylinder John Deere tractors, but then the 10 series diesels came out, and South Texas became John Deere territory.
neat tractor, and that disk was working nicely too, we usually put a chisel shank with a sweep in the center of the disk on older tandems to get that little strip
After a little cough and a fart it just "ran like a Deere"! Motor sounds really good and it pulls that implement so easily; another great find. After watching some of your countrymen prep for seeding earlier this year with their new debt machines (IVTs, electronics and solenoids for everything) I'm sure a few of then still waiting for service calls might feel a bit jealous. Thanks from Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.
Enjoy you videos JT and appreciate your editing style and the time you take to move the camera around to get different angles. The rooftop view of tilling the field was cool, bet that was fun to set up. Keep doing what you do! 🇺🇸🤘🏻
I agree. Making videos myself I know there is a lot of moving and setting up to catch all the angles to make the audience feel as if they are part of each action. I really appreciated that in this video as well. I know how easy it can be to say I don’t have to add this one and he did it. He caught it all and it was really fantastic.
I know many people aren’t keen on the cab, but you very rarely see on of that series of JD’s with a cab, so it makes this one just a little different from the rest of them, and shows a little bit of tractor history and development. Big 👍 from the UK.
I've got a 3020 gas JD that sat for 15 years and my neighbor called me and needed a tractor as his smaller diesel was not in service at the time and asked to borrow our 3020 (if we still had it) well....I told him I drained the gas and changed the oil before I put it away 15 years prior and forgot about it. He showed up with 10 or 20 gallons of gas and a new battery. It started quick and used it for 2 weeks without one single issue, well, he did remind me that it does go through quite a bit of gas - ha ha ha. Yup, that it does! Not bragging on John Deere.....I'm just say'n!
JT I would think 5th gear would be fast enough 4th gear is also good. I always plowed corn ground in 5th and sod in 4th it did a nicer job . We disced with an R JD 13ft. We used a 4020 JD and a 4030 JD .
I miss that cab view, I disked and bailed every season on a 5020, I think that line of tractors was John Deeres crowning achievement, I know people like to straight pipe these tractors but i think it sounds perfect with the stock muffler

I know a lot of farmers that use compressed air they also make a tool now you can hook to your air compressor it spins on the inside of the air filter and blows it out with compressed air
It took JD a ridiculously long time before they got with the filter times. We're talking every manufacture calling them out in their 1970's sales materials before JD decided to make filters accessible and to flip them all over as to not dump the filter contents.
Greetings from Finland, That 5010 is unfamiliar to me, but I have tried the JD5020 once. A friend has one in his museum in working condition. That JD cabin of yours looks like a terrible invention. I have always had MF tractors myself, but such a monster JD is made for heavy work. Thanks for the good video
with the tractor sitting so long, another oil change wouldn't hurt anything after a couple heat and load cycles such as this. you already have a surplus of oil :D
Blow them outer filters out. I have done it all of the time for 26 years. Haven’t dusted an engine yet. Still the inner one on the tractors I run. I never put air through the secondary one to clean it though. One of the best starting old john Deere tractor I’ve ever seen though.
Right on! I’ve been doing it for years myself but last time I did on video you’d have thought I hurt someone’s feelings 😆😆. She is a great starter too!
Big thing with the 531 Deeres is to let them warm up before loading them, otherwise they have a tendency to spin bearings. Getting all the gauges to work looks to be next on the list..........
@@jtsbarnngrill6873what about fuel and tachometer ? To me oil, temp and fuel matters the most i ran out of fuel 2 times in the middle of the road on my way home because the fuel gauge was not working after finding out why it didn't work which is because the connections for the wires on the sender unit was all rusted away after replacing the unit it worked a lot better tachometer depends on, i mean sure it is important to know the engine rpms yes but when you want to set the rpms for the pto speed you need it to work well, i replaced the cable on monday since it was vibrating every rev and causing the needle to jump all over the place, the tractor i did all this work is a 1985 Case 1294 😁

Not sure if it has ever been told before but I'd be interested in the history of your farm. Is it a family operation that is now yours or did you buy it or what? How many acres do you have all together?
This was my uncles farm. He passed and I had the opportunity to purchase it in 2012. The farm was split 3 ways, I got the house and 5 acres, one cousin got 60 and another cousin got 40. I’m slowly trying to get it all back, but that’s easier said than done. I have about 140 that I farm all together. the 60s and 70s operators manuals showed washing your paper filters in the sink! and warned you about "do not bang on a tire." Recently, a social media video short showed using a firecracker... :)
Not sure if you can do a spin on filter conversion on those engines or not. Guess it isn't too bad having to change it like it is. It ain't like you are doing it very often. That tractor will pull that harrow in 5 or 6 gear...
I ran one when i was a kid. It was a pullin horse !!! The 5010 was a piece of JD history. The trouble with any machinery is that people are just getting dumber.
My buddy had a 5020 it was a beast. I'm glad to see someone that still farms the old way with old equipment.

As did the rest of the country.....
Yeah what’s funny though is John Deere passed farm all in sales we’ll still making the 2 cylinders
Agree and disagree...the 4010 was one of Deere's sorriest tractors
That tractor runs very smoothly! 🙂

Right on! This one seems to be a puller! Some new back skins sure wouldn’t hurt though lol
I pulled 22 foot ih #55 chisel plow with 5010 in 5th gear for many years. It loved it.
I feel like that will pull way beyond what you’d think a 120hp tractor should!
@jtsbarnngrill6873 yet when they came out most farmers were disappointed by what they could pull.
