I think almost all those people criticizing sword and the tech that comes with it, never played sword in ranked. Like you said, if sword was that broken then all of the meta slaves would be using it but as we can see that isn’t the case.
Light is not viable according to rank Lord, I can see that when you play stacked with Heavy's utility. Play quick cash with sworemote lords and tell me it's ok when swordmaster charges full teams and takes 2 kills zipping back and forth non stop
@@dwupac you still have rpg, charge n slam, shotgun with the fastest time to kill if your are using heavy, zipline, jump pad and mines. It makes sense that a melee weapon kills you at close range, just try to keep the diatance
Diamond 3 sword player here, Learning and mastering sword tech took me easily over 300 hours, and I still haven't mastered phantom striking and when I try to do it the majority of the time it gets me killed. Even in the practice range I can pull it off maybe 70% of the time. That said I do think its more along the lines of an exploit than emote canceling which is just an easier gadget swap. But anyone saying emote canceling doesn't require skill clearly has not played sword, since they would know your timings have to be PERFECT. If you emote cancel before hitting the person then your lunge is completely worthless even if you where right on them. They're going to 100% patch emote canceling but I doubt gadget swapping will get patched and its alot harder to pull off a gadget swap then an emote cancel so I think it'll balance out in terms of skill expression since the tech is going to be alot harder to pull off.
Also not to mention backstab does slightly less damage than sword and is easier to do and no one complains about that. And when have you ever died to it or had problems with it in game? 🗡️🗿” “Oh, never I just see cheaters and exploiters using it on UA-cam that are a lot better than me but can still not perform phantom striking consistently to actually make a huge difference to gameplay. @@xdToom To me, phantom striking is on a fine line for being an exploit and I really wouldn't blame the devs for not wanting it in the game. You're hitting while winding up another attack, that's like shooting while reloading. The reason I think emote canceling is fine is I see it super similar to canceling the long reload animation lewis gun when you have to do the long animation by putting up and down mesh shield really quickly. A smaller form of skill expression sure but it does exist. You could claim I'm just bitter since I can't constantly do it but I do think the vast majority of sword light players could care less if phantom striking was removed we mostly care about emote canceling.
My last game at plat 2 with my fr was like, we play final round vs dimond stack, sword guy dash in our M and dash out, cause he can literally dash 6 times. if we trying to catch him, we wasting time and enemies shoot our back cause we running around after the flying guy like clowns. If we ignore him and try to kill someone else, he will made sushi roll of us, cause he start moving when you start shooting, to made you lose his sound. we tried very hard, killed swordman few times, but their M, hiding and wait his attempt to kill, if swordman died, he wait until we move to bank and insta res him. So this horror repeat again and again. Playing against diamonds is ok, but sword guys feels very hard, he jump on your face like it dancefloor and you need 130 fov to see his moves.

The sword has a low skill entry barrier but high skill ceiling. Emote cancelling definitely makes the sword stronger but it does require some level of skill to properly use. Like another comment said- you need to use it *perfectly* to get proper utility out of it (since you're playing the literal weakest class in the whole game). And I don't understand how people say "there's no counter to sword"... Flamethrower, grenade, grenade launchers, charge and slam, shotguns, playing in open rooms, playing close to teammates, having a relatively good aim, and even running out of dashes will get you killed as a light. I feel like all melee weapons have pretty big counters, arguably the most compared to other weapons in the game. And as someone with hundreds of hours on the sword, going from bronze to diamond in s1 with it alone (and partially in s2), I do feel like there should be some degree of skill expression for the sword -- similar to how the dagger used to have the Akiba step. But that's up to Embark at the end of the day
The mass hoard of people complaining about sword techs is making my brain actively rot. The phantom strike ESPECIALLY. I am a got diamond with sword this season and I have not once EVER seen a phantom strike pulled off successfully in a game before, casual or ranked. Nor have I ever managed to pull one off. And all these people who complain about "no counterplay to emote cancel or sword", if they played a few rounds of sword against half decent players, they would immediately realize how dumb that take is. Play around a jump pad, or even more aggravating (for the sword player), play around a frag mine, I have seen plenty of heavies who see me coming and put a landmine at their feet and stand on it, and there is nothing I can do other than hope a teammate is nearby to kill him instead. Not to mention the most obvious "counter" to a MELEE weapon, *try to engage in an open area with no cover*. Also I am convinced that most of the people who complain about emote cancel barely even know what they are talking about, if at all. You see sword players once every 4 or 5 games, good ones a fraction of that, and ones who use techs effectively, an even smaller amount. Not to mention the whole "double ttk with emote cancel" BS, which is just factually untrue (TTK against medium with EC being .14 seconds faster than not). The real advantage from EC comes from the extra mobility and ability to not be stuck in the vulnerable lunge animation as long, which for a class that has the lowest amount of health, and can be one shot by several abilities and weapons on other classes, is fine, and is a big help at higher ranks against good players who have very good aim tracking.
I respect the playstyle, people who complain about it are kinda dumb imo. It takes plenty of skill to pull off playing with the sword in high ranks and in general.
it’s a war between casual and competitive. any player with a brain can counter sword so in ranked you dont see it being used as much, but in casual (where all the complainers come from) the average player is random queueing and has subpar aim, making it very hard to counter. i support keeping emote canceling because good players will always be good. without emote canceling good sword players will still win because the “exploit” isnt even that strong. it barely reduces ttk, and even the reduced ttk is slower than other weapons like the xp. embark will likely remove it due to it being a bug, but i doubt casual players will stop complaining. theyll probably come after gadget swapping next lol
Exactly mfs hate sword but sledgehammer and other weapons slap then sword has glitches, sometimes you lunge and then basic attack then it glitches by itself causing you not being able to attack which makes 0 sense… so I see why people emote switch… I don’t do it because it takes too much time when I try to do it, it gets me killed on ps5 like I said the sword glitches when you literally use the lunge and basic attack multiple times. The animation glitches… they need to fix that, maybe people wouldn’t swap to cancel if the animations actually worked
buz they wna play with cod brain sword i only good if ur good with it. all these light complaint makes no sence when heavy is a raid boss dog walking his med but okay light op
I still don’t understand why people cry about phantom strike. I play heavy on my main account (rank D1) and I’ve played against most of the top sword players, and I have died to the phantom strike maybe 3 times. Even if you do the tech perfectly, engaging a full hp heavy is still a MASSIVELY unfavorable fight for a sword. The sword’s strength is always going to be in killing unaware mediums, and none of the current bugs/cancels change that. If you are too dumb to pick one of the dozen hard counters to the sword, you should just say that instead of whining.
The problem is that sword is only in high elo , decent . in low elo and casual (where ppl cant aim or urse their brain, no offense its just what i see from exp) a good/decent sword player is gonna dominate even without emote cancel and phantom strike. so naturally a lot of peapole will complain .when i go sword in casual not using techs btw its usually a 15-25/3 game. in ranked (i usually use techs in ranked. im dia4) my kd ratio is way waaay closer to 1 . 8/5 .(bruh idk what im even trying to say in this comment,) few other takes (my opinion) 1. phantom strike is rly hard and is definitely a skill expression(i only pulled it off once or twice in a real game) 2. there are plenty and i mean plenty of sword counters in the game 3. even with emote cancel xp and lh1 are still stronger weapons i personnaly would like if these techs stay but i look forward to how the devs are gonna address the problem i mentioned above also makes sure to type all those hate comments and critiques of me here :)

Bro, you replied to my "there is no room for skill expression with other guns to equally fight phantom strike" by telling how hard it is, but this is my point: Its so hard and requires a ton of skill but grants you an advantage ((that the enemy cant match)) because other guns doesnt allow for such high skill expression. that’s the thing. light class should be higher skill ceiling. it’s a class where it’s high risk high reward. other guns doesn’t allow that high skill expression but they compensate that with their advantages of having range and also good aim to scale with that too. the skill ceiling for guns is their aim while sword should be their techs and movement. on top of that the light class is a class where position matters the most.
