Another note. Your feelings about sword is how I felt about dagger. Nobody did step tech. But they removed it. It wasn’t meta but it was removed. It killed the skill ceiling for it and boy was it high. I had ways of making it a guaranteed kill. I had ways of dashing around corners through walls and hitting someone and flying away from them in one motion. I practiced that weapon for 2 months to get where I was at. Just for them to remove it and “fix” it and everyone’s all “oh it’s better than ever now” like stfu. No it’s not. It never will be until they return it back to pre 2.6 values. Even the menu animations for it suck now. Sword too. We used to hold it with PRIDE. Now we look like we’re trying too hard to look cool. Dagger just looks weak af and both are objectively not as intimidating as they were pre 2.6. I’m so tired of things getting nerfed all the time. Tell the fans of your game to grow tf up and learn how to counter people instead of bending to their whining and bringing talented or determined players down to their level. Just like dude from incredibles said “when everybody’s super, nobody will be”

I think it's only raised the skill ceiling also you forget the stab angle on the back has been vastly improved you can even double kill with back stab maybe even triple haven't been lucky enough yet find out. You can still dash round opponents and swing stab it was broken being able to face stab. I know we have two different views on this matter but I still think your two months of practice weren't for nothing. Change your angle of approach and you may still find joy in the dagger as I have if you want some clips of the double stab hit me up.

embark really out here nerfing an already weak weapon and letting heavies get away with charge n slam/rpg. im a sword main but this shit is too discouraging im about to swap off

Nah this can not be permanent, embark knows how much skill expression means to the community and especially light players. They will make up for this in some way. i do believe that

Gadget canceling is an exploit and I dont enjoy having to resort to abuse exploits in order to make the most out of anything.
The fair compromise is to shave off some recovery time for the sword attacks tbh. The whole skill ceiling thing is just dumb tbh.
Performance and skill should be tied to intended mechanics, not some voodoo magic whose knowledge is also barred behind people in the know aka 1% of players
I can see why people think gadget canceling is an exploit but IMO I see as like doomfist from overwatch where casuals can play him like normal but advanced players would use him fullest by implementing other techs. These mechanics are not intended to the character but keeping it in the game shows the difference between doomfist players. Are they "exploiting" when using these techs? i don't know. But just like how you think that gadget cancelling's only purpose is to shave off recovery time, it not only does that but connects to a bunch of other combos the sword is capable of. so removing that removes the skill ceiling of the weapon.
Damn, and I just learned the weapon swapping mechanic with the sword lol.
Anyway, I've been playing sword during season 2 and I made it worked without tricks in casual gamemodes. I think the best way to make the sword work is the positioning and learn how other weapons work, specially the melee ones.

Sword in TA is the best. When everyone walk around with capped 100 hp, 1 lunge is enough. Also as a light you have 66% hp(100/150), which is normal for sword light dashing around

Same. Using sword with all the techs was really fun and engaging. Without GS or EC sword feels much more slow paced and boring. And being a one trick sword gameplay was the one thing keeping me in the game, so now Im out.

Multi hit yes. But light has not been buffed. They removed emote cancel and now even the gadget swapping.

nah don’t get discouraged. this is just based on my perspective because i don’t enjoy TA that much and swords playstyle is different in TA as well. on top of removing gadget swapping so i’m just not gonna play the weapon as much. season 3 looks great tho. good cosmetics but the new weapons are okay i think.

We're left with shadow slash only, i have played few hours this season and sword feels too fucking slow, im gonna cry
Even that, with no canceling anymore the phantom slash becomes inconsistent.
I tried creating a script that did phantom slashes for hours, tweaking and everything and was never able to get it consistent, maybe 80% at best, and the others would do a normal slash instead.
Obviously I only used that for testing in range because it's easily detectable, which I even got kicked out of a lot.
@@natebarton2259I can pull of it consistently, timing feels a little later this season, I do it without gadget swap, try to chain it in a lobby one after another, and also use not just normal slash after lunge to kill heavy but also left click into shadow slash-lunge
And don't be scripting, that can be easily monitored, if you value your account

crazy how people (like ottr) are crying for phantom striking to be remove from the game... sword is so much harder now and they want one of the hardest things removed?? i feel like not a single person who is complaining about phantom strikes has ACTUALLY been killed by a phantom strike, its super easy to counter as well since dashing or sliding during a phantom strike is SUPER difficult and i havent seen a clip of anyone but me being able to do that against actual people, not just practise range bots.
EDIT: gadget swap as well? another skilled thing that requires you to think about which gadgets to use, when to use, which ones you have, which slots to put them in etc, and it only makes it slightly faster... crazy how so many people cry about being outskilled, the finger dexterity for pulling it off as well is insane, combined with every other tight and precise timing, aiming, EVERYTHING but nah

Would be cool if the sword lunge had a lower reset time if you hit someone. That would keep some of the skill ceiling and wouldn't rely on janky mechanics. That being said, after the S3 reveal I don't think embark cares about competitive players at all...

I don’t know why you have to rely on an exploit (gadget swapping) to have fun. Its buggy and unfair and not really possible on controller. Im also a sword main btw.
First off ive seen good controller sword players pull it off. If you've never experienced it, you just don't understand the depth of sword mechanics. You might have fun dominating casual lobbies but I want to play sword competitively. People view "fun" differently. Maybe it is an exploit maybe its not, they already patched it so im just gonna move on to something else.
Gadget swapping isn’t nearly as strong as emote canceling, it requires way more skill and timing for not even half the benefits.. its not really an exploit Iv seen gadget swapping be a thing in other games its something people master and people who call it an exploit just don’t understand the game.. gadget swapping is far af away from a crutch it makes the sword viable to play

Season 3 messed everything up so much I'm not sure If I want to keep playing anymore. Removing ranked cashout sucks. Heavy got stronger but light is still weak. HHM will probably still be meta in cashout and HHHHH will probably be meta in TA. This is probably the most stale state the game will be in and it's sad.
Did u listen to oscar, they are temporarly removing cashout so they can fix it, light got faster health regen, your not helping.
@@JohnathenPorkington Removing cashout ranked for 1 whole season is still removing. And that's not even my main complaint, which is the balance/meta. They did not even acknowledge the balance is still very much wack.

@@fastdagger4005 World tour is not ranked though. It's progression-based, not skill-based. You earn points by winning but doesn't lose points if you lose.

No it lowers it because theres less mechanics to use therefore there's less things to do which lowers the ceiling. Just raises the skill floor of the sword.
you clearly don't know what a skill ceiling is, it's not how hard the weapon is to use, but it's how good the weapon can be when used skillfully. Sword isn't any harder to use, but now it's just an F tier weapon.

They hate medium class that’s why lights and heavy’s got two things but medium gets one. A new ability would be nice for medium something to help close gaps just my opinion. Lights seem to be favored more than anything
embark keeps trying to make the game casual oriented, this is so pointless. you were top 1 sword user i have not seen anyone better than you and they nerf you. i honestly don’t understand what embark is trying to achieve and this is starting to really get annoying. i loved this game since the first glance but why do they keep doing these decisions, i feel like at some point we will just have enough of this bs and leave the game, they have to stop doing this
It raises the skill ceiling of the sword not lowers it. It's great to see exploits be removed from the game, will help people who are actually good at using it as intended get less hate. I got to diamond 3 with no exploits sword only.
it lowers the skill ceiling man. because you have less things to do as the sword. but it is harder to pull off of course. definitely will help sword players get better but sometimes there’s just nothing you can do because the ceiling is capped. getting to diamond 3 without “exploits” is impressive but let’s be honest no hate but d1 and d2 are where actual diamonds are at. the rank system is inflated not saying its not impressive to hit d3 but everyone can agree that this games rank system is pretty shit.

It feels so hard to play against as a sword player. So I don't even know the reason why they are removing gadget swapping.
@@pullkia The skill ceiling is lowered when a the weapon doesn't need to be played around. With animation canceling anyone who knows how to cancel can just face check every corner and win any 1v1. I'm sorry but that's a lowered ceiling. 1 move to use in every encounter except against lights requires less skill.

light instakill is still in the game using intended features only, and gadget swapping increased the ttk on a medium by less than a tenth of a second on an already slow weapon
