So even though I edited the video, even I didn't notice that. I want you to know this comment sent me down quite the rabbit hole. I have been testing everything in-game to try to figure out why that happened and I have nothing concrete, but I do have a guess. For starters, cloak spells definitely do give destruction XP, contrary to what both Wikis say, although it is VERY slow. It also is definitely not related to damage (did a test where I used an overpowered destruction potion and summoned and killed 20 Karstaags and got the same XP as when I did the test with mudcrabs. I was able to kill over 200 Karstaags and still didn't go from level 15 to 16 on a level 1 character). From what I can tell, my best guess is that the XP is based on TIME. I think you may gain a flat amount of XP for each target that is being affected by a cloak spell, each second (but that flat amount has to be coded incorrectly, because it is AGGRESSIVELY low). This definitely needs more testing than what I did, but what seems to have happened in the vid is that I was right on the cusp of leveling up to the point that the miniscule amount of destruction XP you can get from cloaks put me over the edge. Either that, or you gain a flat amount of xp anytime an enemy enters the range of the cloak spell, and since I was testing by using the placeatme command and then running around once they spread out, the enemies may have been entering and leaving the radius a bunch. I also want to say, I didn't just blindly trust the wiki on this. In the playthrough I took out a bandit camp with only cloaks and saw no movement to my destruction skill at all, and it was still like level 25 at the time. Also, I used only cloaks the entire run, and to the best of my knowledge, the bear fight you pointed out here was the only time destruction levelled from it. Although now I am tempted to scroll back through to see if I missed any others just assuming it was heavy armor that leveled. Thanks for pointing this out though! I definitely have more questions than answers now, but it was still fun to look into!
Also I know you didn't want to do exploits but when you stand in forge fires like the black smith. Forge in riften it gives you an okay amount of destruction XP for the beginning levels
@@-Solaris the final battle with alduin is. No matter what. Clear skies is the only thing the player has to do to beat the game. Bingo Bango and Bongo will kill him for you. And you can, and he did right? What other method did he use throughout the run that I am not seeing?
@onnivinpelzel6368 I would assume that the spell was made with a barrier to stop you from lighting yourself on fire along with your enemies. So although it shouldn't stop you from being cold, it should stop you from being colder, if you can apply logic to magic in a video game fantasy world that is lol.
Hell yeah! Glad to have provided the idea for the character name :) Also stoked to find out also married Temba Wide-Arms for the sole reason that you hate bears about as much as she does. Best wife in the whole game, hands down.
Decided to do this myself, and so far so good. My destruction is over 50 and I have one of the cloak spells. Unfortunately I could only afford one while I was still at the college, so I had to run from winterhold to windhelm and only narrowly made it after several deaths even though I had two food items to warm myself. After making it back to whiterun, getting ingredients and heading over to the plantation, a few more deaths along the way. I made it and then a dragon started harrassing me when I went into town to see if I could find a pickaxe. An irl hour later, I finally managed to shake it, but I am under no illusions that this is going to be an easy run. But Cloak N'Scowl is well on her way to being a master of cloak spells, crafting and picking pockets. And the weird thing in all of this is actually the one thing I didn't think was possible because I watched this. I leveled up destruction by using a cloak spell.
Not much progress in the last two weeks because I took a break to play Cyberpunk and keep up on ff14. although, an interesting note, I do seem to be gaining destruction xp. Albeit very VERY slowly. To the degree that it's practically negligible. Currently stuck in the Ratway dying over and over again to the lowlife outside of the Ragged Flagon because I thought it would be a good idea to clear it out early. For some reason, you could level up your destruction without using any spells or paying for it, if you go onto the fire of the forges it levels it up slowly
A general tip for higher skrim difficulty raising HP at lv up is advisable. You can get free spell cost later making increasing magika redundant mid to late. Also fort destruction potion increases duration and spell radius for cloaks specifically.

Did u know if u go to riftin n enter the temple of marra talk to the boss lady n start a quest u can get +15 magic resistance .? After u complete 3 eazy quest for her n got a necklines to reduce restoration magic.
Lightning damage makes Dragons stop using their shouts, also all dragons receive more damage from lighning. That cloack should've been what you should use vs them
I mostly didn't count it due to being a restoration spell and working quite differently to the others due to the "undead only" specification. I definitely see the argument based on the mechanics of damaging opponents though. For this run it seemed best to just keep things simple and focus on the spells with "cloak" in the name. I also chose to forgo Mara's Wrath added with Anniversary edition for both that reason, and because it was much stronger.
@MAGOOdog valid concerns about aura, and yeah wrath is definitely designed to be a direct upgrade (plus cc spells aren't really made for base game balance)
Since you spent so much time healing, did you get the chance to unlock Necromage? It increases the damage you do to undead, but I believe it can also empower the cloak itself and the strength of items and potions if you're a vampire. (Provided you aren't using the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.) Necromage unlocks a lot of fun exploits, but in a run like this where you're squeezing every bit of damage you can, it also just makes for a good but niche damage increase. (Also, I'm surprised you didn't go into stealth or invisibility, since you can damage enemies with cloak spells without necessarily breaking either.)
Thought the same thing. Then I thought wow!! Wards!? I never gave them a chance in regular gameplay. And I feel like if I learned how to use them they could carry you through a normal playthrough and it would be fun and hard
That is certainly debatable. I've been playing skyrim so long I tend to just consider that a part of the game, but it could be argued. It gets really blurry in Skyrim, but mainly, I wanted to avoid glitches that would make the run easier. I don't see running up the side of a mountain rather than taking the path as being easier, but rather more convenient. Taking the path wouldn't change the outcome, just the time it took, so I didn't see a problem with it. Especially without fast travel. Something like the dawnstar chest or the fortify restoration loop, however, would have drastically altered the entire run.
@MAGOOdog fair enough, thanks for the reply. I haven't played that much Skyrim (compared to some at least) so for me it still feels kinda cheap. Although then again I view stealth archer similarly so I'm definitely not in the majority there
An exploit is something that is not intended, Shadowmere is blatent proof that the specifically running up the side of a mountain was an actual intention of the developers since Shadowmere has it's ability to run up litteral cliffs enhanced furthur than all other horses in the game. And Frost I think may have something similar but not as much as Shadowmere??? I do not know about Frost. I would have to look that up. Meaning that the developers actually has sheer cliff running up as a spectrum for horses specifically
Unironically, most powerful spells in the game. When I'm playing a mage, which I almost always do it's my stealth Archer LOL I level alchemy, make really powerful fortified destruction potions which increase both the damage and the area of effect of Destruction spells. Step into a dungeon, dualcast flame cloak, watch a bunch of red dots up here and then disappear on the compass. 2 seconds, entire dungeon completely cleared of all enemies. Walk through and collect my loot.
Don’t mean to sound like a knowitall but destruction levels via damage dealt not from the specific cast like illusion or conjuration, it works like restoration in that sense
I just replied to another comment here (I pinned it to make it easier to find). The tl;dr is that cloaks do give a miniscule amount of xp, but it definitely isn't tied to total damage dealt, and also likely isn't tied to casting. My best guess is that it is tied to the amount of time enemies are in range, but it is absurdly slow to the point that I may have gained like half a level in this entire playthrough that way. Still, a super weird thing with how the game works.
Would survival mode make it too hard for vampirism to make necromage worth it? It would have increased both damage and area of effect. You could have also possibly gotten the helmet that gives the necromage effect again, having double necromage adding quite a nice buff to both area and damage, without drinking potions
@@truthert I never ended up at restoration 70, so that would have just ended up taking even more grinding that was unnecessary by that point. I also don't want to get in the habit of using vampirism as the go-to answer for these challenges, especially since it definitely counts as an exploit, which I wasn't using for this video anyway. Some may disagree, but I highly doubt Bethesda meant for a perk used to increase your effects used on undead to buff the player in any context.
@MAGOOdog even the unnoficial patch doesnt remove all of the buffs you get from the perk, but I can certainly see your point, and how tedious it would have gotten to grind and buy your restoration to that point, though might have worth more than getting your destruction higher than 70, as I dont think any perk higher level than that actually effects your cloack casting (dont remember if you went to 90 or not)
Isn't it actually great that they barely give xp though? It allows you to control the leveling and by extension, levels of enemies you encounter. Yes high cost sucks, but you can lower it with enchanting and can lower restoration prices normally
Eh, I see what you are saying. Though he is leveling other skill trees. Not all his exp is controlable. It is just that one. Which is almost just anoying. You are right actually
They certainly aren't intended to be used this way. I get the sense they are a bit of an afterthought that were never intended for much other than a little extra damage over time.
That should be fixed with the next upload. There was a setting I've had disabled up until now since I had a good number of old, inactive subs. The vast majority are new now so I'm planning to turn it back on for future uploads!
LOL it has to be a joke, how bad you are at this game right? It's a bit you're playing a part? You made so many, let's call them "questionable" decisions lol

Slow start, strong finish. Definitely one of the more hellish 'Can I Beat...'s for both the player and viewer.
You leveled up to 30. You made the game like 8 billion times harder.
No mana potions decision made this run even more insufferable than it should've been
Since you are running Legendary difficulty buying skill levels is much, much faster than using any destruction spell anyway.
That is a fair point !!!!! This is so true. Actuallly !!!
Wow!!!! 🤣🤣
You could have used the lords mail for this challenge it could help it’s but on survival mode I don’t know how that would apply
BTW Horse name is ran because you past khajit tents
Great channel. Would love to see some fallout 3 and New Vegas challenge runs as well!
Can you beat Skyrim with only non-follower npcs dealing damage for you? (Protected npcs that are required to be killed to beat the game are allowed to be killed by the player)
Hello ,Good day. Is there a flame clock spell near winter hold college u can run to n pick up with out killing stuff. The body is burnt n fire is around n the book is on the ground. U might pick it up later in your play throw. I posed video 4:20 . I have dun some level 1 play throw n picked up the spick shield . N on my way I found the burnt body surrounded by fire. N picked up the fire cloke . Ok . I'm sorry I'm writing u a story. Back to video. 7:09 that is the location u found it. ❤ Hi. Did u know if u go to riftin n enter the temple of marra talk to the boss lady n start a quest u can get +15 magic resistance .? After u complete 3 eazy quest for her n got a necklines to reduce restoration magic.
Should’ve picked up the Helm of Yngol, 50% frost resistance is good against necromancers
Lightning damage makes Dragons stop using their shouts, also all dragons receive more damage from lighning. That cloack should've been what you should use vs them
4 cloaks? dawnguard has an anti-undead cloak; stendarr's aura
Question, why no ward spells? Would it make mages too easy?
Thought the same thing. Then I thought wow!! Wards!? I never gave them a chance in regular gameplay. And I feel like if I learned how to use them they could carry you through a normal playthrough and it would be fun and hard
🥔Awesome video as usual, Keep up the good work.
P.S. The training montage was perfect. 🥔
13:23 wouldn't a horse walking up the side of mountain count as a glitch/exploit?
Although then again I view stealth archer similarly so I'm definitely not in the majority there
@@anna-flora999cheap and an exploit are different. Skyrim has more cheap things than balanced so it's sortof take your pick
Mfw I'm a cloak head clicking this video
22:10 his OOM face is destroying me.
It's wack Destruction progression only boosts range on Cloak spells, unless that was changed.
You know you can just go directly to the farm right? XD
Don't ask, "Don't you just love skyrim." The real question is do you love yourself, cause if you did, you wouldn't be doing this. 🤨
Pokémon colosseum music mentioned 🚨
is that the Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness soundtrack I hear at ~11:00, or am I tripping? It's been so long since I played that game dude
Nope, you're right, it is!
@MAGOOdog exquisite taste 👌🏻
@MAGOOdog even the unnoficial patch doesnt remove all of the buffs you get from the perk, but I can certainly see your point, and how tedious it would have gotten to grind and buy your restoration to that point, though might have worth more than getting your destruction higher than 70, as I dont think any perk higher level than that actually effects your cloack casting (dont remember if you went to 90 or not)
What about J'Zargo's scrolls?
Isn't it actually great that they barely give xp though? It allows you to control the leveling and by extension, levels of enemies you encounter. Yes high cost sucks, but you can lower it with enchanting and can lower restoration prices normally
Eh, I see what you are saying. Though he is leveling other skill trees. Not all his exp is controlable. It is just that one. Which is almost just anoying. You are right actually
Sir! Your deal! I need to know what it is!
I did do a mage build in Skyrim once. Mara's Wrath f^cks I won against Forsworn easy.
0:28 IS THAT BGM FROM SPYRO?!
@@Magnic_yep! I use music from a lot of my old favorite games in my videos
@@MAGOOdog Damn, that made me want to replay Spyro. Sadly, i don't have a TV anymore to plug my PS1 into.
22:40 😆😆😎
🥔Damnit UA-cam didn't send me a notification🥔
Nice SOCS
Who hurt you?
Generic comment for the algorithm.
Hype for generic comment, for the algorithm
i feel like cloak spells are meant to be used for a magic and melee build
They certainly aren't intended to be used this way. I get the sense they are a bit of an afterthought that were never intended for much other than a little extra damage over time.
@NikoKuehne Skyrim is not meant to be used for a combat build. Really. No combat in skyrim is remotely how you say, balanced
Cloak spells the worst?
I'm sorry but they deal insane damage and range while hitting multiple targets.
Potion of destruction before casting it
Can you beat off in skyrim
For some reason your vids just aren't showing up in my subscriprion feed.
I get notifications for your streams but not videos.
That should be fixed with the next upload. There was a setting I've had disabled up until now since I had a good number of old, inactive subs. The vast majority are new now so I'm planning to turn it back on for future uploads!
Your facecam is in the way
LOL it has to be a joke, how bad you are at this game right? It's a bit you're playing a part? You made so many, let's call them "questionable" decisions lol
