Style has a bleak meaning when mechanical efficiency becomes a priority for engineers working with designers, especially to current standards. Hard edges are the least efficient design in terms of aerodynamics coefficients, and since its an ev they cant afford to make that flaw.

Like others have stated, the Cybertruck looks more like a DeLorean DMC-12 than this. The fact the initial 88 are tied to NFTs is laughable and it's not even street legal? But the ones sold after the first 88 will be "street legal"...why? Who would take this out on the track? This is a disappointing step for the "next" DeLorean besides it being electric, which is fitting for an original car that looked like it was from the future. Anyway, rant over. The DeLorean was way ahead of its time and the DMC-12 could have been so much more if it had got the chassis and engine it was supposed to have. It rightly became an icon, this new design is a tepid update without much to distinguish it from all the other two seaters currently. Give people what they want, the original. Use the time and resource to fix its flaws and update the handling and engine then just re-release it, better still electrify it properly.
Good to hear the versatility these new vehicles will have in not just being EVs. Besides also having a regular V8 engine, they also plan to use hydrogen-powered engines? These guys are definitely looking to the future, and while I'm a bit iffy on the cars being designed outside the US, as long as it helps bring Delorean back to life like never before, then it's fine by me. :D

Style has a bleak meaning when mechanical efficiency becomes a priority for engineers working with designers, especially to current standards. Hard edges are the least efficient design in terms of aerodynamics coefficients, and since its an ev they cant afford to make that flaw.

@@johnnygoods1232 The overall profile and lines look very much like a Tesla. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine a Tesla body modified with fancy taillights, rear glass cover and gull wings. While I don't think the car looks bad, it's kind of boring. They should've gone with a more retro look IMO.
A few days ago Hyundai announced its 1974 Pony Coupe-based hydrogen car, which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro before the DMC12. How ironic that a car with the same designer's Heritage was unveiled in the same year!

With the exception of the gull wing doors, there is not so much as a hint of the Delorean DMC-12 in the EV Concept Car.

The updated Countach was done really well. This however hardly resembles the original DeLorean. It's just like any sporty sedan. What a shame.

I was disappointed with this car at 1st because I wanted them to produce a follow up to the original but as a standalone piece, it's quite beautiful. But, there is a beautiful render that pays homage to the original. I hope they see it.

What the heck is happening in the automotive world? Massive resurgence of creativity and engineering from nearly every brand.
I wish it had more homage to the original DMC-12. Bolder angles, stainless steel (at least stainless steel looking), LED square lights in the front, LED hashed taillights in the rear, and way more prominent louvres. Keep the DMC logo in the front.
Why is it called the Alpha5? That's the best they could do? Why not the DMC-88 or DMC-JD (in honor of John DeLorean)? Even DMC-EV as cliché as it is sounds better than Alpha5.
Like others have stated, the Cybertruck looks more like a DeLorean DMC-12 than this. The fact the initial 88 are tied to NFTs is laughable and it's not even street legal? But the ones sold after the first 88 will be "street legal"...why? Who would take this out on the track?
This is a disappointing step for the "next" DeLorean besides it being electric, which is fitting for an original car that looked like it was from the future. Anyway, rant over. All this vehicle does is make me appreciate the DMC-12 even more.

The DeLorean was way ahead of its time and the DMC-12 could have been so much more if it had got the chassis and engine it was supposed to have. It rightly became an icon, this new design is a tepid update without much to distinguish it from all the other two seaters currently. Give people what they want, the original. Use the time and resource to fix its flaws and update the handling and engine then just re-release it, better still electrify it properly.
This is a pipe dream. There is no way a upstart car company can possibly build EV, ICE, and Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars all at the same time.

Good to hear the versatility these new vehicles will have in not just being EVs. Besides also having a regular V8 engine, they also plan to use hydrogen-powered engines? These guys are definitely looking to the future, and while I'm a bit iffy on the cars being designed outside the US, as long as it helps bring Delorean back to life like never before, then it's fine by me. :D
