As someone who’s worked in a grocery store and a shoe store I feels this on a spiritual. Another reason for me to hate people while working a customer service job

Worked at Dunkin Donuts for a time. One location was a combo with Baskin Robbins, the other was standalone. At first I was accommodating, but then it got to a point where I was like "look, as far as you're concerned there is no "in the back" for me to check. What we have is what we have." Especially when I've already been diligently keeping fresh items in stock as necessary when available or it's close to closing time.

Working retail, it was typically the elderly or foreign people who asked to look for things in the back. Until we decided to order less and just keep nothing back stocked. What was on the floor was all we had, there was no "in the back" anymore.

I am a Target worker. Some lady asked me and my coworkers if we could do this, for some knickknack from our bullseye bin. We actually as front enders, are not ALLOWED to go in the back because we have to.... y'know be where we are supposed to be, which is the FRONT. Even then, we can't just dig around in boxes, so we told her this, and she just walked out with nothing more to say or look for.

On god it be like that. I told a guy the other day that we did not have any extra in the back but he was not listening. I about wanted to slap him.
The amount of times I was asked to go look in the back, I just decided you know what sure let me check and make them wait several minutes as I "check the back" while I just go there and either hang out there or the break room for a few minutes, or just flat out leave to do something else and just say we don't have any
As that is always the answer even the managers give because checking there is literally pointless and a waste of our time
