      @@eazye519 i mean i like TNG as much as the next guy, but DS9 has way more stakes in terms of plot devices. so its a hot take to say nah as if that’s definitive. sisko was by far the least “starfleet” type captain. watching his character development was awesome. something u dont get in TNG

    Aron's comments are thoughtful and considerably more complete than some of the other actors' reflections on what formed the basis of the difference between ST:DS9 and the other productions in the Trek franchise. I agree with this actor and with Ronald D. Moore, DS9 was the best precisely because it WAS NOT formulaic and took the risks the other shows would not take.

    • @zayarummm
      @zayarummm 11 років тому +2

      Are you kidding me? It had a very predictable formula - it was a complete rip-off of WWII, and they didn't take a lot of risks - they made Garak stop being bi because the network said they didn't like it (google it), they always had the black characters date other black characters (Jake and Ben both only date black women, Jake even finds a black Bajoran). They played it safe, they even stopped doing their James Bond-esqe stories because the Bond people said they didn't appreciate it. Predictable plots were typical of DS0 - probably over half of the plots were taken straight from TNG. I love DS9 the most, but it was very formulaic, I don't get how people can't see that.

    • @ModelLights
      @ModelLights 10 років тому +8

      LOL, rip off of WW2. Funny how many things you got incorrect in such a short list.. Jake's first girlfriend wasn't black, not infringing Bond isn't 'playing it safe', and there wasn't much originality in TNG in the first place. "But it was very formulaic," leaves out that it was considerably less so than TOS or TNG. Short of killing off main characters they'll all follow a basic formula, but DS9 had considerably more leeway with running story lines than the previous shows.
      The percentage of eps where you couldn't tell roughly what would happen once you met the players and saw the conflicts in TOS and TNG was very, very low.

I had to shows based on space stations;Babylon 5 & Deep Space 9. showing life in the UFP & it's allies as well as it's enemies. When Nog join Starfleet Academy with Capt.Sisko becoming his mentor & well like a 2nd father. would like to see a Capt.Nog commanding the USS Defiant series & as new C/O of D.S.9, with Avery Brooks as Adm.Sisko & Jake now full fledged U.F.P Reporter/Correspondent. you must remember that aron was a more recurring character in DS9 Brent had HEAPS to do in just about every episode for seven years. The cast have often said that their work days were 12-18 hours a day from 1987-1994, then a movie a week after the show wrapped. Makes sense that Brent says nowadays that his trek experience seemed like one big 7 year episode. Aron had great stuff to do on the show but he would have only worked some days per week/per episode.

    • @LoneBong

      Be real, they're actors. They're paid to remember the lines for a few minutes, to get it on video. All viewers did was watch the shows, a tiny fraction of what the actors actually did with working on set all day, and in some ways not even the most important part of their day.
      They shouldn't remember it the next week, much less years later.
