  • This video demonstrates the procedure for basic (50 hour) service on the oil bath air cleaner on a Ford 1700 tractor.
    I use "clean" waste engine oil in the oil bath air cleaner.

    These videos are really helpful. I’ve had my 1700 for about 6 years now and love it. Starts every time. Do you have any websites you frequent for parts?

      @@jordanmartens1666 I get parts everywhere… from local auto parts store to the dealer (where the machine was purchased by my grandfather in 1982). Recently I’ve been ordering OEM parts online from Messicks in PA because they will ship to my door, saving me the trip to my local dealer. With work schedule, that can be easier than waiting for parts that aren’t in stock to arrive at my local dealer and then pick them up. For things that aren’t available new anymore, I’ve made use of tractor junkyards for dismantled machines. Messicks gave me the lead to Long Lane Tractor in PA, which specializes in old Fords and has been helpful.

    Thanks for the video! I learned how to service my oil bath filter on my Ford 1900 tractor.😊 I noticed that your brace across the front of your tractor is missing. I removed mine today so I could open the engine cover. Do you leave the brace off when you operate your tractor? Seems like a bad design by Ford that the bracket has to be removed to work under the hood? I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, Jim

      @@motoxkx500af9 That crossbar piece doesn’t brace anything. It’s more of a guard than anything else. I only remove it to open the hood with the loader on the ground. When the loader arms are down it can’t swing far enough to the side to allow the hood to fully open. Since it’s just on a pin, it’s easy enough to take off. A lot of tractors (even new ones) have interference with opening the hood when the loader is on the ground, and/or require opening a grille guard crossbar. When I’m outside and just need the hood open quick, I raise the loader and swing the bar out to the side to open the hood. FWIW, my crossbar hinge pin holes on the loader side failed from years of vibration. It’s only still on there because a couple pieces of steel were welded in and drilled for the hinge pin. I almost didn’t bother. It’s overall an annoying part that doesn’t do much, and my grille is torn up anyway. Sometimes the crossbar pops loose and swings open when I’m mowing the field and bouncing a bit over uneven ground. Then I have to stop and close it so it doesn’t get caught on the bucket and bent to heck by accident. As designs go, it’s not terrible. A lot of these tractors didn’t have loaders. The 1900 loader is a little different from this one, I think. I believe it’s loader model 771 as opposed to 770.

    Ever have to change the headlamp bulbs, and know how the wire clips go back on them? I can't find any info or videos to get my lense rings back on after i fought to get the retro fit LED bulbs installed.

      @@alanspangenburgjr2429 No, never done it. There are instructions for replacing the headlamp bulbs in the operators manual, but for reassembly it basically says reverse disassembly.

    Is it possible for the air cleaning to be clogged causing the engine to not start? I have the exact same 1700, so far I have changed the oil filter and the fuel filter, but it's still not turning over, any advice?

    • @ProductiveRecreation
      @ProductiveRecreation  9 місяців тому

      Is the starter cranking it over and it not firing? Or starter not cranking over? If it’s not firing, more likely it’s not getting fuel. Start with bleeding the fuel system. If it is the air cleaner (which I’m doubtful about) it should run if you disconnect it.

      Try performing a spark test, sometimes your points can be corroded and cause ignition failure

    Would this cause it to overheat if not cleaned?

    • @ProductiveRecreation
      @ProductiveRecreation  6 місяців тому

      @@RobertSmith-sh5fq No. It’s just an air filter for combustion air. If it were clogged, the engine would lose power or stall from incorrect fuel/air mixture for combustion. Overheating is the cooling system - dirty radiator screen, dirty/blocked radiator, insufficient coolant, and stuck thermostat are all possibilities. The 1700 needs every bit of its cooling capacity when working hard in hot weather. I frequently need to clean the radiator screen when doing any kind of field mowing in particular.

      @@ProductiveRecreation that may be what it is. I’ll have to clean and drain everything. And figure out where the thermostat is. Thank you!
