Nice knives. I started with modern knives, then they started looking too similar to each other. Like automobiles of today compared to those in the 1940s and 1950s. When I turned to traditional knives like those from Case, GEC, etc, I was in love with knives again. Those frames, those covers, and 1 to 4 blades in one knife!

My kizer zipslip is the first slipjoint ive carried at work for a couple of years,i didnt expect much from it to be honest but its performed extremely well for me.Razor sharp and edge retention is simply amazing. It just feels like a much more expensive knife than it is👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I think if you like a knife you will use it and be happy. Modern slip joint like these have the advantage of newer materials and steels. Being able to take them apart is ok however; tiny parts get lost. That happens and getting replacements is a pain. You can clean a traditional one it just takes a little more time. I like the look of the Fox blade shape and the hidden lanyard pin on the Lion and its modern looking blade. The problem with customs is they come and they go like the wind. They all might have great ideas but fighting to get one and their high cost doesn’t make them everyday users. That makes the one that costs less the one I like the best. (Black Fox Coil)

I have some TwoSun modern slip joints. They are fine and well made. I also have the Manly Wasp which a good worker. I strongly believe modern slip joints should have a 1/3 stop rather than a 1/2 stop. It's as easy to do and much safer.

  • @jeroenvoss6231

#3 for me is the Lionsteel Gitano for its Spanish Navaja influence and strong locking when opened. Lovely lines and beautiful blade. Your #1 and #2 choices, stay. Once opened, it is neither a traditional or modern slip joint, but a beautiful Italian crafted, Spanish influences joy to look at as well as to handle.

Very nice selection of knives !
My only modern slipjoints are the Maserin Scout (excellent tool), Rough Ryder VG10 (clipoint blade), Maserin E.D.C (great gentleman knife), and the Manly Comrade.
If I had to pick one it would be rough to choose between the Scout and the Comrade...
But I'd go with the Comrade : strong and reliable, great design, and 3 stops to avoid accidents with unexpected closure, good German D2 blade

Hi, do you own the lionsteel Bestman ? I live in France and it's illegal to go out with any knife there. Slipjoint are most of the time tolerated tho. I bought the Bestman 2 with ebony wood to "replace" my spydercos outside, and it's really great ! The slipjoint action is really good, midstop, there is even a blade stop on the closing.

I love the way that BlackFox looks. It's a good size too. For some reason I had the impression that the blade steel was 440A, but C is totally fine for me. The thing is, I've spoken with lots of folks that were under the impression that all of the BlackFox knives are made in Italy, and I think it says that in the specs on some sites. Most if not all BlackFox, and FoxEdge knives are made in China. For that reason, I have been hesitant to get it. It's not cheap for what it's made of. Is it worth it?

I might be old fashioned but I hate pocket clips, I can’t think of a better way to lose your stuff ! knives, torches, tape measures etc, I have caught them on all sorts of things, and you’ve either got a bent open and useless clip or your knife gets flipped into the brambles ! The right place for a knife is at the bottom of a pocket either trouser or a square jacket pocket like a tweed sports jacket pocket. And don’t start me off about those stupid diagonal semi handwarmer pockets !
