It's all about the features you will need and use. If you don't do action or wildlife, R1, R3 and R5mk2 are a tough sell because they mostly focus on fast sensor readout and crazy AF. A R8, R6, R6mk2 and even R5mk1, is more than enough for street photography, portrait, landscape and studio work.

Im a commercial photographer of 16+ years and I shoot with the Canon R6 mkii for all my shoots. I dont see why upgrading to the R5 mkii for studio work is worth it. Also, about 90% of my work is in controlled environments where the lighting is pretty good so needing a little extra dynamic range isnt a huge deal for me. I do need good low light performance but the R6ii is fantastic for me. Dont see why I need 45mp at $4300 at this point unless I was shooting national campaigns for big brand companies or cover photos for Harpers Bazaar
The only thing for me with why I even now can reconsider my choice for the R6 is I do kind of wish I had the resolution. Just for that extra headroom when cropping and stuff. Also and this one is super just me, but I wish the r6 also got the screen on top. But honestly I’m glad I went with the R6 cause I don’t think I could really justify the r5 at the time.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the r5 debut with a similar price? Now Im not here justifying the increase but it think it's around 10 percent more expensive, but even if one doesn't need the r5ii they still benefit from it because the price of the r5 will go down it's a win win 👍🏼

It's a very good point. I work full-time with photography and my main camera is still the Canon 5Ds. Canon has so much focus on video specs and speed. If I was to upgrade to day I would switch completely to Sony og Nikon.
I don’t know if I have ever bought a camera new. I’ve always done refurbs or used usually 4-6 years after launch. Don’t try keeping up with the joneses. A old dslr will do great and save you a ton of money. A first gen mirrorless is a nice way to go as well

You're absolutely right! The r50 is an amazing camera by all means. Both photo and video. The r5ii is 7 times more expensive but is it 7 times better? Probably not.
R50 is an incredible camera. Ive shot pics for print and websites. Used it for wildlife. Only used 2 lenses. 50mm f1.8 and the 100-400mm. Im just annoyed I sold it.
I can say with guarantee, most professionals would only need a r8 or r7 or sony a7 mk3 . 10 years ago ppl used to shoot action and wildlife on 10fps and that was considered the fastest ! Idk even know who needs 30fps brust , these companies making features that no one bout be asking yet blocking features on their lower end models to just petty cash out on so called "flagships". The sad part is non of the flagship camera are worth buying as they are more proof of concept and in fact inconsistent than most mid range models ! And the fact that no flagship still have proper computational photography or Ibis properly implemented!
I mean as someone who shoots with analog cameras. I totally agree that some of these tech upgrades are getting so unnecessary and are lowkey dumbing down some photographers. When I use digital for work, I find myself not thinking and knowing I will probably still get a decent shot. Back then I still had to understand the things I was shooting in order to shoot it well. I do feel that some genres of photography do require these innovations though. Simply put, the quality and impactfulness of images have improved with the technology. I’ve seen some crazy wildlife and action photos that I don’t think can ever be done on older cameras. But these are also really really rare. Like maybe a one in a million. Simply put, if tech in camera continues to improve, I want to be able to see these new innovations create new opportunities and more impactful photos, not the same old images.

i love R5C why because cameras like them get photos all types of photos plus i love vivid pictures i knows my mother liking plus i knows my mother love photography like shoot beautiful dress and she loves these things she loves wear beautiful dress and love these things yea definitely these me is other i like vivid photos plus hellation i love shoot my photos in sunset 🌇 but my mother has tastes of her clothes loves of high heels.
Honestly worried about new photographers who go into it full time and don’t accept wanting to even work a part time job…. Like where is the stable income at the very least I’m trying to tell my buddy that he should work part time even twice a week just to at least get some stable money. But no.

The cameras price is too high. I make a living with my camera and have the R5. I will wait for when it goes on sale. $4300 is way to much
