"Everybody's Party"
Pat Metheny: Guitar, Guitar Synth
John Scofield: Guitar
Steve Swallow: Bass
Bill Stewart: Drums
Methany is a trumpet player at heart.
Steve Swallow is a tank. 14 mins playing 5 notes
He is a bassist. One of te bests.
the real deal!| Master!
Yes and how he played that's notes...
If I only had to make it through the intro, I believe it wouldn’t happen lol
Someone... go make sure he's okay
This shit is murder for my anxiety disorder.
I keep waiting for them to start the tune!!!!!
SCOFIELD'S SOLO IS A MASTERPIECE.
Sco is from another planet. His melodic ideas are so original and out there.
Steve, Pat, and Sco were at Berklee when I was there. Steve was the nicest guy you could ever meet. Pat practiced all the time. I played in a few ensemble bands with Sco. He was good, but over the course of three years he turned into a monster player. Gee, practice really does pay off.
thanks--ya, i've seen some pretty disingenuous stuff at certain blues jams i was at, were a guy will complain he can't pull something off, but tell you it's 'just for fun' when you suggest some practice routine to help.
ever see Jaco up there hanging out when he was in town?
Steve, Pat, and Sco did not go to Berkeley. They went to Berklee.
@@tgrimes175 Just a difference of one coast from the other. 😋
@@tgrimes175 Jimi Played Berkeley
If you're here looking for Steve Swallow not missing a single beat in a 15 minutes song, well you came to the right video
SCOFIELD's SOLO is a MASTERPIECE.
I absolutely LOVE Bill Stewart. One of the most melodic drummers ever. Fantastic.
The level of mutual respect and enjoyment from Sco and Pat towards each other is infectious and a lesson for musicians. And Bill and Steve in the background are like old friends supporting them. I have seen less cohesion from old bands like The Rolling Stones.
Superbé Pat and John also backline Steve and Bill, great music from another planet :)
10:30 reminding me of edgar winter frankenstein
Never go toe to toe with a shoulder pad man.
I trust Pat learned his lesson.
Sco Pads!
Anyone else notice how they each came in with their own time feel and then instantly matched each other on the next breath? No ego, all music!
***** without ego there can be no music because without ego there is no conciousness.
+Borys Pomianek thats some motherfucking deep ass shit, homie.
Kain Motthasmews Hey, these things smarter people said hundreds of years ago ain't going to dust themselves now are they?
Plus I already paid for the apron and everything!
Great observation!!!!
Two masters of the outside. This track should be on the golden cd flying to the stars
There's no piece of music I'd rather have stuck in my head. And this one sticks like crazy glue.
You can understand Metheny.
You cannot see where Sco goes.
Choose your aesthetic.
yep.... Metheny is consensual, Sco express his subjectivity, which materialises through feel and explorations of sonor langage
If you turned the sound down when Sco is soloing, you'd swear he was getting stung by hornets....lol....what a beast...love him.
John Scofield is an interesting player. I saw him at the 1986 JVC Jazz Festival in Newport RI as part of a multi lineup. Always mixing angular and dissonant lyricism with blues and funk. I'm sure he plays a lot of whole tone and diminished scales and loves to obscure the underlying harmonies with departure after departure. A great introduction to him is to check out Jaco Pastorius, Kendwood Dennard and John Scofield playing the Jaco blues, "The Chicken" on a 1985 instructional video for aspiring bassists. Jaco sounds the most adherent to melody and harmony! I've always loved Pat Metheny and saw him live in Lowell MA 1989. He's fully capable of playing angular and outside like Scofield. Song X with Ornette Coleman. I would like to listen to more Scofield and decide how much I like him. I like him and what I hear. It's an acquired taste- active listening. Listening to the Chicken with Jaco is a great place to start.
Swallow.......human metronome in trance......great job steve, great job.....
The trumpet effect on Pat's guitar is awesome!
Pat's talent is limitless.
Metheny solo is one of the greatest electric guitar solo ever! Sick!

Los mejores guitarristas dl mundo. So different so alike great!
John Scofield... One of the most exciting guitar explorers I'v ever heard, with Jimi Hendrix
I was lucky enough to see two shows....simply the best thing you can imagine....
The most superb rhythm section....supporting the greatest improvising guitar players ever...ever...
Pat and Sco....guitar heaven...!!! Technically I could go on forever....but just enjoy.....The Best!!!
Was this really 25 years ago??? Jeez!!!
No competition for me here ; two pots of gold, twice the value !
We're well in the nineties !! Thank you to those great great 4 jazzmen
Brilliant all around. I feel like a dunce for never having envisioned what a great match Pat and John would be!
If this is a party, Swallow is the DD playing those same notes for 14 minutes straight for everyone to riff over!
Hahaha ..nicely put!
In ieder geval erg knap!!
The only chord changes happen at 1:22 & 13:04, otherwise ostinanato , except for the ending. Great party. 🖒🤘
You'd be surprised at how few musicians can what appears to be that simple.
Incredible crazy-psychedelic solo from Pat!! at 8:25 I almost fell of the chair! :-D
I watch this everyday! :))
Love Sco...even in the quiet moments you feel the menace coming when he takes the dog of the leash (e.g. 3;59 and then the low notes at 4;02 are totally sick!)
When did Simon and Garfunkel record a guitar battle concert??? Looooove it. Pat and Sco.
Personally, my favorite two guitarist. However, the rhythm section stands out as the masterpiece.
Steve Swallow is Amazing!!!
FUSION HEAVEN!!!!!
Fantastic groove. Like it it should be as live...way better than the studio version. Probably the best Metheny solo ever. And everybody shines....yeah like crazy diamonds!
La Fiesta de Todos... Bill Stewart batería, Steve Swallow bajo, Pat Metheny guitarra y John Scofield guitarra... Lo dijo eo gran Pat: "Sco es el hombre"...🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶👁️🌅
This is the kind of indulgent stuff you play when you're famous.
The drumming was great.
Swallow=designated bass driver.
Every solo is delicious.
Its amasing how Pat Metheny takes his solo to another dimension .
Scofield is just sick wit h it.
Divine!
Sco, the sickest jazz guitarist drug cartel
wow, wow, wow! The studio version is great - yet this one is just superb!
I was There :-)
Questi 2 spaccano ancora e per sempre di brutto!
two guitar-master together ! incredible ! wonderful piece and solos ! but also fantastic solo on drum by Bill Stewart while Steve Swallow is able to play ostinato bass line !!!! Steve's ability in timing is really surprising while Bill is going on playing a lot of different polyrhytmic bar on his drum !!! high live performance , for sure !
An absolute “stone” groove...
Bill Stewart looks so clean and neatly groomed!
I noticed, too. He should let it grow. Be a mop top.
He traded in his sideburns for drum stix 🥁
This tune is badass!
Remeber this footage when came out in late 1994 . I ve recorded video on VHS tape and played it all along... a nd again... and again. Fantastic.
Two Giants on gtr and my favourite drummer!
Masters
I love the tones of the distorted guitar violin sounding thing that Pat Metheny uses sometimes
guitar synth
A year ago I was here; an anniversary worth listening.
jesus! a great performance overall. bill steward got my special attention. great solo, smooth, effortless, tastefully, diversified, rich; what a thrill with that persistant ostinato. makes my day!
It's excellent stuff really, isn't it.
Blown. Away.... Love it!!
Thus my first time hearing this, amazing that's all I can say. Thank you to whoever posted this
Thanks for listening
When the play the melody choruses, there is a break section where the bass line does change, lol. Yeah, this is awesome!!!
Pat’s solo beginning is so big… One of the biggest
Bill Stewart is like a cross between Bernard Purdie and Elvin Jones.
And a little Dolph Lundgren around the eyes.
That's a very good observation. Everything he plays is funky.
And a slice of Jack DeJohnette
God bless Billy Stewart. Because .... Billy Stewart.
Oh, and bless Steve Swallow, too, for providing a fat mattress at the bottom of a deep, deep trough for everyone he has EVER played with.
Oh, and John Scofield for constantly evolving the instrument while striking new ground at the edge of the F'ing frontier.
The end, amen.....
t3wells steeve is dead?

So cool to see a live performance of this! Great track on a great album! 🙌
I can count on one hand, other guitar players that can dig so deep harmonically and rhythmically at the same time.
