What a great region! The colours with the mountains in the background are surrealistic. I like it. And the shots at the end, the otter with its caught char are really top! Thanks for sharing and greetings from Germany, Rolf
I agree 100% with you on the hunting of the elk. Ugh! Anyway, love your otter pics. They are so crisp! You manifested the otter catching a fish. Now take those powers and think “lottery!” Lol 😆
After using the Sony A9 and watching your video, wow, DSLRs are super loud. But, it's the man behind the camera that makes the picture. Great job Steve!
Great video Steve. I'm a hunter and I too feel that NP hunting like that is a joke. That's not hunting. That stuff gives hunting a bad rap in my opinion. The otter shots were outstanding as was the panorama. Thanks for sharing!
I understand population control for sure. I also know that these parks are massive so the Elk have a lot of space. If my understanding of the hunts in my area are similar to GTNP, its a special park permit, it does help control population (the White Tail Deer here are where it gets overpopulated) and I suppose makes some money for the park. Maybe they should up the permit cost and give some of the money and maybe meat to the food banks and shelters out there.
Another great video. Love the pano. Brilliant blue sky and clouds. Expect a lot of folks would pass it by as the fog level and clouds partially obscure the Grand but it’s real and just beautiful. Love the first otter too. Seen them many times but only once had a camera but way too far for the lens I had. Thanks!
Wow nice video again Steve! What a beautiful place to photograph. My sister lives in Salt Lake City. I am visiting her next year! We are going to visit the Tetons and Yellowstone at the beginning of june. I am looking forward to it... 😉👍🏻
Panorama and otters' photos are fantastic 👏👍🙏. Killing season, especially in national parks, cause a lot of feelings from powerlessness to anger. Best greetings🤗
Great shots Steve. Always get excited when I see a new video up from you. Even more excited to see you out taking shots of otters. One of my favourite critters. Love your work 💜
Another great video Steve and outstanding images. I totally agree with you on the hunting, where I live it is illegal to hunt unless you are at least a quarter of a mile off the road. What you showed is not hunting it is totally not sporting and doesn't give the game animals a chance. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, superb shots of the otters, amazing creatures to watch at close quarters. I was luck enough to watch one fishing in the Outer Hebrides this year for around 45 minutes.
Love, love , love. This particular video was just what I needed on this particular evening. Thanks for your especially satisfying video. I don't know a lot about the specifics of photography, but I do know when conditions make good photos just by seeing what I see with my own eyes. So satisfying!!! Thanks for sharing.
Great photos, out of the water with a fish! Last month I was walking the Merced River in Yosemite and came across 3 otter. By the time I switched lenses they had swam into and area with fallen trees limiting viewing access.
Wow Just wow - at 6:03. I had to pause to make sure that wasn't green screened! lol What a gorgeous landscape. No wonder you spend piles of time out there! As for the hunting, we sadly have those types of hunters here in Ontario and we call them road hunters. I hunt, but not like that.
I wasn’t aware of the allowable hunting in the NP. I won’t get into the argument about whether it’s right or wrong other than to say that it doesn’t paint hunters in a very good light. Speaking of light, that pano of the Tetons was so good as were the otter images. It was a reward for your persistence and a reward for the true hunters; You and the otters! Well done Steve!
Great shots Steve. Nice to see someone else suffering with the heavy lenses. Spent 10 hours yesterday trekking through wetlands here in Florida. Had D500, D850, the holy trinity, 600 f/4, a couple tele-extenders, flash and a tripod. Luckily got some great shots, because it was pretty miserable with that load. Can’t wait to get 500 pf to alter that load.
Love these! I'm still new to the process of videoing wildlife, and it's good to see what it often takes to find the shots you're looking for. Also, man do I want to get out to the Tetons! I've been to Yellowstone numerous times, and just haven't gotten myself far south enough.
Hey Steve, another great video! Thank you for putting out all that effort while I'm laying here in bed recovering from back surgery. I remember when you were just starting out and I came across your video's I thought, do I really wanna start following this guy? I'm glad I decided too! I feel like I know a small area of the Grand Tetons
I didn't realise that the authorities allowed shooting of wild animals in a National Park. Using vehicles to kill wildlife is not sporting at all. I used to shoot and hunt here in Wales many years ago when I was a young man but in those days we had a lot higher respect for our quarry and would never have participated in the methods used today. Maturity brings with it a greater appreciation of the wonders of the natural world. For many years now all my "hunting" has been with a camera. It's much more difficult than with a gun, gives a lot more satisfaction and at the end of the day the quarry is still there to be "hunted" again .... and again .... Some super otter images. One of my favourite mammals, along with all the mustelids.
Not finding anything to photograph? look around you and you will see a lots of beautiful trees with snow on them A snowy woodlands make a very nice photos And great video Steve
All that dude needed was a bagel, some cream cheese, onion and tomato and he'd have one heck of a Nova Boy sandwich. Inspired to me to go out to my local river and look for otters.
whaaat?? I know this is an older video but living in Estes/RMNP I had no idea there were parks that allowed hunting?!! that seems super messed up. (haha also probably why we have so many elk 😅)
Great video as always Steve, can I just ask about your vlogging setup. How do you normally do it, what camera is used in the car, outside on tripod and when your vlogging on the move outside?
Did away with the jeep?! I also had no clue they opened the hunt in, or so close to the park! Was that back near antelope flats? Either was that is a shame. Such a pure stretch of land, that would really bum me out.
Great Video Steve. Beautiful Photos and Scenery as usual. When I saw the hunters appear in the video, you took the words straight out of my head, I just thought the same thing. All they were missing was a couple of reclining armchairs and a patio heater. They could probably even do without the gun, just stay in the warm jeep until they cross the road and run them over. It would Save them having to carry the kill the 50 yards back to the jeep if they were to shoot it. I've nothing against hunting or hunters, but go out and make an effort and give the animal a fighting chance. It's supposed to be all about the hunt, and that's just shooting fish in a barrel. Might as well just go to the butcher shop and buy your meat. Anyway great video Steve 👍🏻
Greats shots! Totally need to spend some winter time up there. Am looking into ways to get my RV capable so we can handle the cold. Oh, and I share your sentiments on hunting like that. I like hunting and fishing, but in my mind it's not really hunting if there's little to no challenge. I liken that kind of hunting to electro-fishing, which is unsportsmanlike and highly illegal. Make those boys use a longbow and track the elk on foot. Now THAT would be hunting. I understand the need to thin the herd occasionally to prevent overpopulation, but that's harvesting, not hunting.
In NY you cant hunt from the road...As a hunter I stay away from southern tier especially opening day...The NYC-ers and NJ-siers come out and its like Viet Nam at day break...Many a cow/horse were shot by those guys thinking they were deer...
3rd time's the charm! Great images! 👍👍What were you vlogging with for your pano clip? The video quality was WOW! I'm not against hunting in general, that wasn't it. I always try to rationalize things....is there a population problem?
stunning shots n view !!!!!!! Steve your right it bothers me too that a national park like this one and others would allowed hunting thats pretty sickening !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by the way i love your videos n beautiful photography !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your videos Steve. The rant not so much but I understand the frustration. Unfortunately it portrays one side of a story and assigns labels. I've seen hunters make poor decisions as well as photographers. I do wish as a whole our respect for nature was more frequent than it is. On a lighter side, snow will hopefully in my neighborhood this weekend and I plan to be in the middle of it with the camera gear. Thank you for all the videos you have a wonderful talent.
Good job. I used to do a lot of hunting but what those guys were doing was just plain sorry. I have nothing against hunting as long as it’s done legally and ethically. Now I just hunt with my camera and I’m happy.
When you say you perhaps got one or two shots of the otters, you mean to say you just made some killer shots that most of us will never get! :-) Agreed on the hunting. As long as we eat meat, responsible hunting is really nothing we can argue against ... at least the wild animals had a better life than the cows in the feeding lots. But, what happens in GTNP is not a hunt, more a slaughter.
Great video and shots as always. IMO those guys by there truck weren’t hunting as there was no “thrill of the hunt” in what they were doing. They just wanted to shoot something and like many things today, they were looking for the easiest and most computable way to do it, while at the same time giving a bad name to real hunters.
I no longer hunt. Haven't for many many years. I am not anti-hunting and sometimes it is even necessary to keep the animal population in check so that they don't outgrow their food supply. That being said, what you showed is not hunting and those people were not hunters. Lounging around next to your vehicle waiting for an animal to get close enough to shoot is simply killing the animal NOT hunting the animal. OK, now that my rant is done, those were some pretty cool photos of the otter(s). Well done, Steve.
You right, I am an animals lover, I don't like to see them to be kill even with other animal like wolfs or bears, so sad when I see those video. Love your santa hat.
I loved your images. I also disagree with shooters in a national park. People should be able to visit a park without the fear of getting shot. In Australia we have kangaroo culls in national parks when the population gets too high, but this is done by professional shooters employed by the government. I still don't believe in the culling however. It just shows that the ecosystem is not in balance.
The hunting you describe is ridiculous and that's really more of a fact rather than opinion. While I personally strongly disagree with the premise of hunting as a sport, doing it on the ground by stalking an animal requires skill and in theory gives the animal a chance to escape if the hunter screws up. There is a skill involved making it is a lot less ridiculous - disagreeing with that (as, again, I do) would be a matter of opinion.
I'm glad you mocked those hunters. How pathetic. Unfortunately with the extirpation of wolves something has to be done to control the elk population. Still, that's just lazy garbage. GFX? Do you really see it's better than the D850 or Z7 to warrant the enormous cost?
Love this 3 days format, it gives perspective over the effort needed sometimes.
Thanks!👍
Beautiful country and beautiful photographs.

Steve, great video! It really highlights the many hours that go into creating amazing encounters with wildlife!
Thanks Vaughn👍👍
You live in an amazing place Steve! You inspire me so much to get outside and take more photos.
Thanks!👍
After using the Sony A9 and watching your video, wow, DSLRs are super loud. But, it's the man behind the camera that makes the picture. Great job Steve!
Great photos at the end of this 3 days session !

Great video. I was wondering where you had the GoPro attached. Ingenious!

And in love with those Otter shots at the end. Wah Wah
Great shots of the otters with the brook trout...nice when animals cooperate.

Thanks again for your photos and vlogging. Excellent stuff!!! The shooting sounds at the end sound like an air soft competition lol
Thanks!👍

Another winner Steve!!

D850 is still the best ,nice pic
Your right that’s not hunting it’s killing. What reward is in that. But I bet they make up one great story about how hard the hunt was.
Greats shots! Totally need to spend some winter time up there. Am looking into ways to get my RV capable so we can handle the cold.

Im extremely pro hunting (when its for food not trophies) however lets replace the rifles and bows in the national parks with wolves. :-)

Is hunting in NP in order to "control the population" or just make money for the park? Either way it's dumb.
Aren't national parks supposed to preserve? Why the hunters? Really frustrating that people do that kind of stuff

GFX is noticeably better image quality than my Nikon gear. Whether it's worth the cost or not depends on so many factors...
