Cruise Ship Passengers Capture Frightening Moments At Sea As Ship Rocks Violently

This is why I’m never going on a ship
I fail to see the charm of being stuck on a ship with thousands of strangers with no way off for any of us. I would sooner take a vacation in a shopping mall. It sounds disgustingly crowded, hot, and unsanitary.
@@indridcold8433 Yeah I've been on a cruise ship twice, the first time I was only 9 so I enjoyed it but the 2nd time which was last year, not really, it just doesn't make a lot of sense, stuck at sea at some point becomes boring, and I was there for 7 days though on the 2nd day, I already wanted to go home.
@@vrs9486 it’s no different being stuck at home except you got a free buffet, pools, hot tubs, 24/7 ice cream, golf, arcades, casinos, activity’s, etc. I don’t see how people can’t enjoy themselves on a cruise

@@vinnieviddivicci5459 Now that there is a planetary pandemic, it sounds even furtherly disgusting to be in the floating petri dish. I have come to realize that perhaps I was entirely too close in proximity to people, whether I knew them or not. The pandemic had the side benefit of showing the world that we do not have to herd together like wildebeest. I never knew just how much better life could be keeping a distaance from everyone, not just strangers, everyone. It is doubtful I will ever herd up in some gathering again. Things have really got better in some strange aspects because of the pandemic. But the majority of things have become worse. I am not a fan do the pandemic. I was just trying to find the silver lining. Freedom, independence, self reliance, are about the only benefits I can find from planetary disease.

Why is nothing bolted to the ground is byond me.
In a navy ship, almost everything is bolted down. In a cruise ship, it is not much more than a hotel with a big lobby. There are certain regulations for bigger items, and the kitchen. The rest has no real regulations.
Not only they should be bolted, they should at seatbelts to these couch and furnitures.
Huh❓ “ the *ground* “ ... good luck with that.
@@smallstudiodesign I’m not sure if they meant strapping the ship to the ocean floor or strapping the furniture to the floor inside the cruise, but I’m gonna guess they meant the second option?.

I’ve traveled by sea for decades. When you get to the port the ship looks big, a floating hotel. I had the opportunity to see a video of the Atlantic from space, I asked what a dark “speck” was in the ocean. They replied.....a ship. Mother Nature is in charge.
I almost got crushed on a cruise ship that was in a storm off the coast of Norway in 2005. The captain used to work on an oil rig, and since we had a lot of extra time to get to our next port, he took a little detour so he could sail past the oil rig and show off the ship to all his old buddies on the rig. Normally, the storm would have been avoided. There was damage, and some flooding on passenger floors. The coin counting machine in the casino is what almost crushed me. Scary shit.
You should receive a medal
It is leaning to one side so it is not just a malfunction of the engines. They can't even use the lifeboats on one side. It was a very close call. If it had crashed on the rocks it would have been a major disaster.
yeah, that's why it's save in a harbour now
You do know the Titanic SANK, right?
Yes it is. An engine broke and didn't restart.

Showing a cruise commercial before watching this video…..priceless! 🤣😂🤣
I went on a cruise last year and now I’m super glad it was fine. My only scare was having a panic attack while in water too deep for me to stand. This would be absolutely terrifying
So, swimming is what you’re afraid of
@@M_SC
Any water the ship is in is too deep for you to stand in.
At the mercy of the ocean.
This is why I will NEVER go on a cruise
It’s actually not particularly unsafe, there is about a 1 in 6 million odds of dying on a cruise ship. Comparatively the odds of dying in a car crash is roughly 1 in 300 (and that’s on the high end of studies, others found far worse results). Think positively my friend :)

Imagine if the ship tipped over or went upside down, that would be even more deadly and scary!

It doesn’t matter where land, air, or sea, or on train tracks disasters will occur.
As a Norwegian person, i want to say that this has only happened twice in our country (Norway) this is something that should NOT happend, but when it’s a storm there is nothing we can do :-
Why do you feel like justifying yourself? Nobody's blaming you nor your country!
It is the ocean and that is a ship on the ocean. The engines failed. I think the rescued efforts were wonderful. What do people think happens on the ocean when a storm hits.
nope but Hurtigruten stayed at Bay that day due weather forcast and they did listen to it Viking Sky nope we going out and see what Hurtigruten knew it could happen if gone out as well. Glad everyone on board survied
brunost
Actually same thing happened to me on my Viking cruise but no one was hurt. All the furniture was flying and people in wheelchairs were rolling all around. We were stuck at sea for days like that and couldn’t dock anywhere to get out of the storm.
have these people never seen Titanic?
I did, “you’ll jump, then i’ll jump”
Goes to show you how waves at sea can almost capsize an enormous ship!! Doesn’t matter how well equipped the ship is it does not stand a chance against the vast sea and Mother Nature !!
Legal!
Not even close to capsizing.
Repent, sinner. Heil GOD
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to laugh at the wood piece hitting the people omg 😂😭sorry
I'm going to be hanged for that! 🤣

Honestly don’t apologize, cruise ships shouldn’t be cruising anymore imo
Some wood piece hit some people in a funny manner? I got to rewatch this
They would need more than one helicopter.
Brilliant
There were more, but at least one got diverted to help with the freighter that was also in trouble.
That actually seems like a really epic way to end an awesome cruise ship
2 ships suffer engine failure at the same time in the same location? That seems very odd.
The other ship had to do some manuevering to avoid or possibly help the Viking Sky if it had capsized. Doing that manuever their engine took in too much water.
that needs to be a new roller coaster
Yes
If someone is scared of the ocean, this will be their nightmare.
That ship is so *well designed* and so *sturdily built* ... *N O T* ‼️😱
The ships angle relative to the horizon says it all! .. power of nature! 👍
LMFAOOO the piece of ceiling that fell on the lady 😩
Its suprising so many people seem so calm.
Probably because the captain said, “Stay calm, everyone!”
Actually everyone was just super drunk and relaxed. A very similar thing happened on my Viking Cruise - we were actually stranded at sea the waves were so big we couldn’t even dock anywhere - thank goodness no one was hurt. And that everyone was drunk.
shows how powerful stabilization systems are to counter all those powerful waves..
Ship: Tilts violently and loses power.
Passengers: Lets take to Twitter!
Oh well if they're gonna die they might aswell make it known
The poor lady got hit by a metal plank 😟😔

@Kody Nester yeah if a plank hit you let's see how hilarious that will be certified idiot
I did 10 Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. They were ships that acknowledged the sea's power and therefore had things secured. Passengers had to only take care of themselves and did not have to worry about flying furniture.
Aww yeah I got a chance to do that. Sad they are no longer running
@@karmasutra4774 sad day indeed.
Like an old man trying to send soup back in a deli
What an exhilarating, once in a life-time adventure. And they didn't have to pay extra for it!!! How lucky the storm was strong enough to call in the Coast Guard . . . more excitement . . .
Why didnt they look at the forecast before heading out
Bc the ship was stabilized so it didn't matter lol. Also there isn't really a forecast for waves. Maybe massive ones, but the sea is gonna be rough regardless
I Can't think of a name
forecast for waves 😂😂😂
You can't predict ocean currents 🤷🏻♂️ americans should just stay at home, this happens sometimes its maritime turbulence
They did and got ample warnings from the Norwegian authorities not to go out. Here in Norway we got a saying: If Hurtigruten stays at the port, everyone else do the same. For 3 days Hurtigruten stayed at the port.
Well they’re designed to take on storms to some degree in case it’s unavoidable. And they have wing like stabilizers under the waterline that can be extended in rough seas so the ship can fight through the storm as long as the engines are running and there’s consistent water flow through the stabilizer wings. Bet yeah...they might have been a bit cocky here and their engines broke down so unlucky them
*Jaws theme starts playing*
Celine Dion*
..just a little reminder that you are on a ship at sea. Passengers who come should count on that!
The furniture: slideeeee →slideeeeee← slideeee→

I love how Schaffrillas used this footage when talking about Daisy Cruiser.
This is exactly why I’m never going on a cruise ship I swear it’s like a curse imagine how many human remains lost in the ocean in other cruise ship accidents under the ocean is like a portal to death
This is why I prefer aviation
They wanted excitement and adventure. This was their big chance to live out their Poseidon Adventure fantasies. All they needed was a fat woman who could swim and be a skinny lady underwater.
They get refunds right?
Yes just mail the complaints to the ocean for a full refund
they need to have those furnitures bolted to the ground and add seatbelts on these chairs so if your in rough see, you just take a seat on these chairs and pute your seatbelt on.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand the point of cruise ships? I've never been on one, but like can't you just go to a nice Beach resort or something where this doesn't happen. Maybe it's just me.
T S I agree. A nice stroll down a Thai beach would do me nicely.
Lol they are lies
It's mostly elderly people who want to spend their remaining time socialising and spending all their money
Beach resort....island...….zombie apocalypse anyone???
It is honestly absolutely ill when you are on a ship and it's like this
They should have played really loud "My heart will go on" by Celine Dion for the passengers to calm them down........................
Bro I would jump on that piano and play "my heart will go on" - 😭
And this is another reason I'm adding to my "Why I Don't Take Cruises" list.
Waves are crashing into the ship, debris is falling on passengers and they’re sliding back and forth, but thank god they have twitter
OMG!!! No one ever expects events like this to happen when going on vacation.
I sure didn't. It was a great cruise, till it wasn't.
This is why I would never go on a cruise ship. Everyone says, oh it is so safe, there is never rough seas. Right.
I wonder how the hell does sail ship make it safely across the sea

One of my main fears if I ever get into this situation
I would be scared for my family and my belongings, especially that I used to travel with my stuff animals
It might seem very childish, but one of them was a gift from my dad to mom in their first date, another one I have had since birth, another I got from my grandma(before she passed), and the last was from the first big trip I took with my family
So if I loose them I would so heartbroken
And obviously my family because they are always first
May want to leave the plush at home on your future cruises...just in case!!🌊
@@strix.1, yeah I stopped bringing them, I just get to nervous
But thanks for the advise!
Who would want to succumb to such colossal waves 🌊
This is a good advertaisment for a cruise.
We are reporting that story 'of course' why of course
Imagine how the Vikings react to the weather.
The people complaining that the rescue was slow like there's not 1k ppl on the boat being rescued by *5* helicopters.
If the engines hadn't failed, I think the situation would be more manageable. Without engine power, the vessel is totally at the mercy of the waves.
I wanted to sail on a cruise...NEVER , after seeing this😩
This would have scared me
Wow!!! Sure can't be me on that vessel. Nope. Scarier than scary to me.
I think it is insane to go on a cruise ship.
Ok, I could certainly see this as being a bit scary, especially while out to sea, and in northern waters where hypothermia could be an issue. I find it deeply ironic that, after the video plays, with furniture sliding all over the place (a grand piano sitting there, evidently bolted down...good idea), and after this video, there's an ad for "small ship tours" of the Alaskan coast. Did Maple Leaf Adventures (yes, that really is the name of the company) REALLY think this video would be a good place to advertize?
.....Really????
Nobody was killed and the Norwegian coast guard went above and beyond. The nords are a sea fearing race that date back to the Norse vcilojgs. The isssue was mechanical

Why isn’t all this stuff fastened Down. I wouldn’t set foot on one of these high rise ships. I feel so sorry for the staff.
If Covid doesn't scare you from cruise ships this should.
Have they never clued into bolting furniture to the floor?
I will fly anywhere in the world, but I will never ever get on a cruise ship. Lol
It must be very traumatic
Why aren’t there life boats? If the ship was sinking, are the passengers just meant to bob up and down in the ocean with their life jackets? This seems incredibly ridiculous... not to mention nothing being bolted down
1:44 you can see the lifeboats on the side of the ship
@@eimyfly And they’re not being utilized why? If a helicopter can land to evacuate passengers, then they can lower the lifeboats...
@@Blackarachnia1996 this just let’s me know that you know nothing about cruise ships produces
@@Blackarachnia1996 1. The helicopters did NOT land, they stayed in the air. 2. Of course the ship has life boats, but you can´t lower them into the sea when the ship is going from side to side like that.

People complain about the evacuation being slow.
The CG heli: *Can only cary 4 people at a time*
Haha, been there done that. You board a ship, plane, car. That is something you take the risk.
And this is why I don’t like traveling in boats. If anyone is still planning on going on a big cruise, do me a favor, and don’t invite me. Because I’ll be spending the entire time holding on tight in case we go through weather like this.
You’re on a ship…expect to be rocked violently if the weather gets really bad.
when is someone going to stabilize this video and re-upload?

Nothing like a nice sea cruise.
“await wescue” “wave after wave”2x
Terror? No just normal rolling for a ship. Living in norway i know winterstorms can be a little playful. One issue is that going that close to the coastline is a stupid thing to do. In case of engine break down it is just more safe going far out to sea.
US passengers taking to their iphones to contact their lawyers. Other nationalities calmly waiting for instructions.
So we now need to invent the chute at the stern of the vessel allowing evacuation straight aft to another vessel behind....using a flexing foredeck...
who came here from daily dose of internet?
