I'm installing LED stick lights under the cabinets in our new house's kitchen tomorrow. Was a little intimidated at first since I've never worked with that product and had nearly convinced myself to do traditional under cabinet lighting. Looks like it's pretty easy from your video.
I was totally freaked out, too, but these ones were super simple since there was no low voltage wire that needed to be run. Hopefully, they last long term.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I did about 50 feet of under and above cabinet lighting today with this stuff. Hey Wild Man, another great video! Love that you show “design changes” and the cost of materials. I like the Smoke Rubio. I’ve been fighting some sliding doors (call back) I’ll look at the hardware you used. In the past I’ve used rollers used for glass door, but it lets wood doors really shoot by too fast. Thanks! Please keep them coming!
Thanks MJ! Yeah, rolling door hardware seems to be limited in options. I know they make nice heavy duty rollers for large doors, like interior barn doors with soft close, but I've never seen them for smaller doors like this. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough 😂
Thanks very much! The wooden sign? I don't remember which one is in this video 😂. If it's the wooden one, it was cut on a CNC and if it's the metal one, it was cut on a water jet.
Keith, I really love the videos! Personal question: how often do you encounter mistakes on a project? I feel like I make way more than I thought I was going to on every project. Thanks for showing how you fix them too!
Thanks Jacob! I honestly can't recall a project where there wasn't a mistake or a issue to problem solve. Whenever you build something for the first time, or a "one-off" there are always problems you run into that you didn't anticipate.
Hey Keith. Was the small plywood base on the domino for spacing based on the double thickness of the dividers? Thanks in advance, and great project as always!
@@jac_builtWoodworks I’m sure it’s some kind of wacky genome algorithm that gives an approximation based on different blood markers, but it’s still kinda fun to find out that you most like have hard or soft ear wax or are prone to a unibrow 😂
It looks really good! Did you consider 4 slides in a bypass setup? I love the open middle, but my office always tends to cycle between everything in its right place and clutter and having a bypass that I could used to hide my clutter during a down cycle would feel welcome.
Thanks Michael! Yes, I actually did consider the 4-door setup, but that would have made the cabinet another 1-inch or more deeper which would have brought it out too close to the edge of the window. Or I would have had to make the inside shallower. I wanted the piece to be storage, but also have open and "decorative" areas as well since it's right next to a wall of black kitchen cabinets that are all closed.
I liked before watching - overall design sensibility and scale to the space is just great! Watching it come together was really interesting as well. A question, was that SketchUp you were using for your 3D renders/plans? And one comment, I may have lengthened the sliding doors just a bit to meet the inner edge of the shelf divider (instead of the center as you have done, 24:38). Finally, after using the space, is there anything you might have done differently, from a comfort and usability perspective? THANK YOU!
Thanks so much for the comment, Curtis! I actually spent some time thinking about where I wanted the edges of the door to meet. I decided I liked the look of the seeing half the divider rather than it completely covered. It's purely preference. That size also lends itself well when a door is slid into place over one of the other openings as it splits the middle of the divider on each side of it. Honestly, I don't think I would do anything different with the space, except waiting to buy a proper desk chair for as long as I did 😂
Hi Keith! Quick question, when you are ripping plywood why do you have your table saw blade up to nearly full height? Do you have a reason like cut quality for this, or is it circumstance? Thanks!
Sometimes it's raised up high to cut a thick piece and then I'm just too lazy to lower it down. I generally keep it so the bottom of the gullet is at the top of the workpiece.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Ahh, ok. Wasn't sure if I was missing out on some neat trick with tear out or kick back. Great work on the office pieces! They really look nice. Thanks!
Just curious... The U.S. uses ounces, pounds, miles, feet, inches, etc... but still revert to metric for mili-meters... How come you use real-world standard for very small stuff but not for something larger than grains? ;-) Anyway! Nice video!
Hey Keith, great job on the build and the vid. Question -- when installing the end stile at 22:58, is there any bond (glue or otherwise) between that stile and the rails, or is it just kind of a friction fit against the rails and the stile is connected only to the case by the dominos? I ask because I'm curious if this method might be susceptible to the rail and stile pulling away and showing a tiny gap with any seasonal / temp / humidity wood movement? I would be terrified to have rails and stiles that don't actually connect to each other -- but I've never actually tried it so what do I know??? thanks
Hey Carl! Great question and it's my fault for not showing the glue application. I applied glue in the domino mortises as well as on the case and the ends of the rails where they meet the stiles. End grain to long grain isn't the strongest joint with glue only and without additional mechanical fasteners (or housed joinery), but it should hold. Hopefully! 😜
@@allent555 I see what you mean but I think you'd be better off gluing at a minimum rather than having the stile and rails touching but not connected in any way. In the future if even a tiny tiny gap opened up, it would be really obvious.

Would be cheaper to order one looking all the tools you were using. Nonetheless, it IS a great video! Clamp-a-thon!

Like always, nice
Thanks again!
I have been watching your videos lately. Great wood working 👏 A quick question; how did you learn this, did you do any specific wood working course 🤔
Thanks very much!! No courses, just books, magazines, videos and experience 👍🏻
I applaud you. Making sense of those "Inch" things impresses me every time
😂 I'll admit metric is easier, but imperial is ingrained in my brain!
Nice work !! By the way how did you make the shop sound sign board ??
Thanks very much! The wooden sign? I don't remember which one is in this video 😂. If it's the wooden one, it was cut on a CNC and if it's the metal one, it was cut on a water jet.
did you make a video on the floating desk?
There were snippets in Part 1 of this build: ua-cam.com/video/xkHaUOjNWHE/v-deo.html
Hey Keith. Do u have any videos coming out soon?
This Saturday!! 5/22
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking awsome cant wait
Hey Keith. Was the small plywood base on the domino for spacing based on the double thickness of the dividers? Thanks in advance, and great project as always!
Yes it was! That helps build the base up so I center the cutter on the thick divider. And thanks for the kind words! 👊
Are Jerry and Lola Russian Blue's? They are beautiful. 😍
They are half Russian blue and half something else...not sure what, though. Maybe I need to submit a saliva sample to 23andMe to find out. 😜
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I wonder if it works for cats, I have my doubts it is actually accurate for humans🤔
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking - It’s beautiful in the space!
@@mrector23 Thanks so much!!
Honestly, I don't think I would do anything different with the space, except waiting to buy a proper desk chair for as long as I did 😂
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Tx Keith! Looks like a great place to work 👌
Thanks! If you have to be in an office, it’s great to be in a space you like.
Hello , excellent work , what is the type of this wood ?
Thanks! White oak.
Thank you
That turned out awesome Keith! 👌 Glad the cats were on guard! 😺Your videos are the best! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, Bill! Thanks so much for the kind words. I wouldn't know what to do with out my feline friends around!
Hello! Cool video👍What brand is your band saw? Where did you buy it? What characteristics does it have? I am in search of a good bandsaw.
Its a Harvey Woodworking C14. I don't recommend it.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Thank you) But why?
@@grigorievwoodwork It drifts like crazy
How come you use real-world standard for very small stuff but not for something larger than grains? ;-)
Anyway! Nice video!
Good question! I have no idea. It's definitely a conspiracy!! 😂

For those of us who don’t know, metric is what? 😜😂
Привет, классные у тебя струпсыны.

Hopefully! 😜
Thinking ahead, it would be great if they could be fiction fitted incase of any wall painting in the future.
@@allent555 that’s why they make painters tape 😜
@@allent555 I see what you mean but I think you'd be better off gluing at a minimum rather than having the stile and rails touching but not connected in any way. In the future if even a tiny tiny gap opened up, it would be really obvious.
