Thanks! This video was super helpful. The process of prying the batteries out seems like a much better process than disassembling the whole laptop and using an adhesive remover, as described in other videos. It is important to choose the right tool to do the prying. I used a 1” chisel which worked great. I wish the video had closeups of removing the connectors as that was the part I was most nervous about.
Thanks to this excellent video I successfully replaced my battery, but broke the connector to the trackpad/keyboard, so I had to order another one. I found the URL to the page to buy it in one of the comments. Here is a trick I used since my old battery was stuck tightly. I put a large wad of cotton in a small dish and soaked it with acetone. I dipped the wide, plastic prying tool into the wet cotton before each time I stuck it under the edges of the old battery. A small amount of acetone seeped in and loosened the adhesive so I was able to remove the battery fairly easily.
Thanks for video. Couple tips for anyone: plastic butterknife for pushing/prying helps (mostly for the 2 center cells). discharge battery so if you puncture the battery it will be less fire, wear eye protection, line up connecter before setting the batteries in place.
I have found that this macbook is part of a free battery replacement program. I had no problems but I decided to take it to apple to get a new battery. Well, after a year the battery they put on me has swelled, so much so that the macbook no longer rests well on the table. Much better to do it yourself and thanks to this video I hope to be able to fix it as soon as possible. A thousand thanks.
Im so glad to see this because I was just given a broken Macbook Pro I think its the 13, I'm not sure about the year but it is the same model as this. But when I went to take it into Apple in another state since we don't have one where I live in my state, but they also said it was gonna be upwards of like $500 for me to do I was like that is really wild because it only needs a battery replacement. I'm personally just looking for a cheap one to buy lol
IT WORKED! Great instruction, video angles and practical 'how-to'. After the new battery was installed, the tiny cables to connect the battery to the computer were a bit too long so I had to manually and gently bend them into a 'U' to plug in the battery to the motherboard. Also used a flimsy and very thin plastic putty knife type tool to remove the old batteries, worked well. Thanks for the great video.

I managed to replace my batteries in 45 minutes total including reassemble. Thanks for your posting. Saved me lots of time. Unfortunately the replacement battery I purchased would not charge at 1st then would not hold a charge. Just wanted to drop by to say thank you. Helped me replace my battery without much fuss. That adhesive was much more of a struggle than I had anticipated. But like you said, patience. And a little elbow grease lol.
Thank you David, that worked like a charm, thanks to your video. Once I was in there it made a lot of sense to me to clean out all the dust, ants and spider webs from around the world, as well as the ventilators and vent channels. I think the laptop is now one pound lighter than before. In terms of the batterie: It said for a year or so that performance is low and the batterie should be serviced. That was no joke. Already when I opened the bottom I saw that three of six cells were swollen to a rather unhealthy size. 😬 So just to say: If you have that message, better act.
Great instructions. The only addition is to let folks know that if they can get their hands on glue remover, it will make the job even easier. I had the battery removed in a few minutes (and it was the first time I had done it). That said, GREAT instructions and thanks for doing it.

No worries, i would try replacing the trackpad cable, before buying a new one try removing and placing the old one back, if that did not help than just buy a replacement flex cable and try replacing it.. that may help fixing the issue. The two screws that hold the bracket in my Macbook pro are stripped. Both of them! I am so worried. My batteries are bloated, i have to get them out. I tried using rubber band super glue soldering but the screws won't catch or turn. I don't know how else to get the screws out other than attempt to use dremel. But the areas are so tight. I hate macbook.
Dumb question: Would it be a good idea to us a piece of fishing line to cut the adhesive pads from the back of the battery, where it fastens to the chassis? It seems that one could feed the fishing line under the battery and use a sawing action to help cut the adhesive pads. And the risk of piercing the battery pack would be far less than using a sharp tool to do it.
Hey! Thanks so much for this video! It was very helpful! I’ve now installed the battery whixh works fine but I seem to have some SMC-issues…I’m trying to figure it out! Would if be ok if I asked you a couple of questions to help me pin down the issue? Would be very appreciated!!
Apple replaces the battery and the entire top case when doing this repair (keyboard, trackpad, aluminum housing), so it's essentially like new, for $289.00
Help me, im in trouble. When i try to pull the battery, one of the batteries sparked. I pushed the philips too hard and it damaged the battery. I am scared to touch my laptop and make the battery explode
Did this and now my keyboard and track pad don't work. EDIT: Solved! The track pad ribbon was misaligned and I just needed to open it back up and push it in.
@@SiBorg8A yeah and thats weird because aluminum doesn't absorb moisture (in this case - isopropyl alcohol) and thus doesn't prevent some drops to reach the screen surface, and so the piece of cloth is more suitable and safe imho

No worries, i would try replacing the trackpad cable, before buying a new one try removing and placing the old one back, if that did not help than just buy a replacement flex cable and try replacing it.. that may help fixing the issue.

I use MacBook pro mid 2015.( Battery A1618). But the repair guy replace the battery with A1494 battery. Now i am using it for 2 days now. Is it going to be an issue?
y de paso no se le pudo dar una limpieza con una brocha para quitar todo ese sucio que tiene por dentro.
Hi all, any difference for original and OEM Mac battery?
Ohm and original sam meaning, its just a different way of saying it :)
Should I back up all my data before doing this? Went to a shop and they said they need to do a factory reset to fit a new battery, is this true?
Use isopropanol and the battery will leave the case itself! So much easier with alcohol cleaner 🤞🏼🤞🏼
How do you put it underneath? 😮
I use a drop of WD40 an detaching was smooth and fast.
Got only problem about loudspeaker now, sound is very low on headphone and don’t have anymore the options of loudspeakers.
W40 always works like magic in every application, I never use it for battery removal but I can imagine... try resting SMC and maybe that fix the other issues

If I remove the battery does the Mac work with the power supply?
yes
Can the laptop work without a battery, so long as it is continually plugged in?
It will not function properly! It will be lagging and slow
what tools are necessary? I see one screwdriver on the site but you are using two in the video
For battery Replacment you will need P5 to open the back case, T5 or T4 to remove the screws holding the battery board, last is Flat Pray Tool to detached the battery from the MacBook chassis. we have many tool set and all are compatible for this project, but I left you an example. good luck

Perhaps some Glue Dissolver or Acetone might have helped?
strongly suggest not doing that as it may cause reaction with the battery or other components, it can damage other parts.
@@tekdep Hi, just to update, I replaced the battery and used glue dissolver and Isopropyl Alcohol to loosen the glue. It didn't react with the battery or any components in the MacBookPro. All working OK.
@@huwjones5879 but incase if the battery skin is damaged or has opening the liquid can find it way inside the battery and that can cause short or damage and it could be risky for someone with minimum exparince. i still dont recommend using any type of liquid but thanks for sharing :)
@@tekdep But iFixit and many others do recommend this and even sell these dissolvers.
Hi,
Are you still excepting customers for this model battery replacement? I’m very interested in sending my “vintage” MacBook (as Apples calls it) for a battery replacement.
We don't do the battery Replacment but we offer tools and Replacment battery and parts at Tekdep.com incase you like to do the Replacment your self. thank you
Hi when if im gonna get my mcbook battery replaced(broken) from apple do i get the old battery back after repair?
No you won't, they recycle the bad battery and you get a laptop with new battery
I have the same problem, where my MacBook doesn’t boot up. I taken out the battery and powered it on but it shows the battery charging logo on the screen.
"Don't want to explode on you, cause a fire" - yeah I'll leave it to the experts.

You are a life saver, muchas gracias
thank you so much for your kind comment :)
Where is the keypad ? Just under the battery ? Thank you
TrackPad is under the battery and Keyboard is under the logic Board.
@@tekdep thanks
after change the macbook pro new baterry show x to battery.... no battery detected....
Hi !
I have a MacBook and the charger doesn't work, I mean the lamp doesn't work? how do i solve that problem?
Thanks
Try different charger so you roll out if the charger is working or not next replace your battery and if that doesn’t help, then you may need more help with your logic board, especially if your data is important.

Very interesting idea..🤔
Hey! Thanks so much for this video! It was very helpful! I’ve now installed the battery whixh works fine but I seem to have some SMC-issues…I’m trying to figure it out! Would if be ok if I asked you a couple of questions to help me pin down the issue? Would be very appreciated!!
Absolutely, Please Post your questions!
The battery still won't charge, however.
Be careful when using adhesive removals or diluted isopropyl! Protect your screens with some cloth!!
Good Tip!
iFixit uses aluminum foil to protect the screen
@@SiBorg8A yeah and thats weird because aluminum doesn't absorb moisture (in this case - isopropyl alcohol) and thus doesn't prevent some drops to reach the screen surface, and so the piece of cloth is more suitable and safe imho
Has anyone removed the battery by gently pulling a string through the adhesive?
