I really like ur punchy presentation. I learnt more in 6 mins about DJ's style than any books I've read or other sophisticated demos or long wind-ups with little delivery, and overly complex analysis, on Y/T. The direct comparison with clips of DJ playing make it very accessible. A lotta thought put into such a presentation. You have a special skill so, keep it up. 👍
Watching this, I realise I've missed a whole lot of Django recordings, as I didn't hear this phrase in the ones I have. I'll now have a go at playing this. Thanks for posting!
There are many examples of Django playing variation of this line in different harmonies. Most often in major keys. In example of Daphne it is played in last four bars of A section. So basicly last four of rhythm changes part A. That’s where I’d experiment with it first. Could be something like: |D, D7|G, Gm|D, A7| D (A7)|. Or the simplified harmony: | D | D | D, A7 | D |

Like your picking style with the upstroke rest stroke!!! I'm glad there are other GJ players who pick like this besides me :)
Thank you! Picking technique is a lifelong work in progress. Usually I just do what feels good and don't think about it too much. :D
