I am 64 and was born and raised in the KC metro area. I never wanted to live anywhere else!!! I've traveled to various countries and have seen pretty much most of the US and no matter how great those trips were, I could never wait to get back to my KC. It was a well kept secret for many years but I am thankful that old KC is finally getting the recognition she deserves! Great video.... I almost got a little teary eyed seeing all the places I've loved and still love today! The NFL Draft was excellent, now it's on to the World Cup....YAY!!!
We live in suburb of KC and we love that we can travel 25-30 mins and be in the city and still live in the country /rolling hills side of town. Moved here since 2016 and both of my kids born here! KC is our home now.
Thanks for sharing the video! And by the way, there were street cars in KCK as far back as the 1940’s. My mother was from Argentine and would ride the street car from there to Northeast Junior High School, if she didn’t feel like walking. 😃👍🏽
nice videos bro! We live in North KC, and I gotta say, we love it! very excited about the Rock Island bridge over the Kaw, seems like a cool idea. hopefully it helps turn that area around, Kaw point is cool but kinda sketchy. it would also be nice to float/kayak down the Kaw to Rock Island and not have to leave KC for a float trip. im glad yall will get to enjoy the streetcar shortly, it really is a game changer. There's been talk of it coming to NKC, but idk if its gonna happen. i really hope that KC leans hard into the 15 min city concept. with the advent of E-bikes its very doable, i hope more people look into them and that the city develops more places for bikes and trail junctions.

Awesome video. Such exciting changes. My late father was a founder of Gladstone, a city just to the north of KC, & all this new development is amazing. I feel blessed to grow up here & couldn't be more pleased with the trajectory of this awesome part of the country. Keep up the great videos!!!
Great video! some of these things I had NO idea where coming to KC. The South Loop, Pennway Point, Rock Island Bridge and Current Stadium are most exciting to me; I live in LA now and think about all the potential KC has and these are great moves! My only wish is they'd let the street car idea end after this expansion and look into skyrails. Street Cars just add to traffic. But if the Royals end up downtown we'll have a real special city on our hands! I'll be wishing for Arrowhead to replace the downtown airport at that point. Which would also allow the city to build up.
As a native of the Kansas side of the viaduct, I’m glad to finally see some growth and development. Every time I go home to see family and friends, I drive around both cities and am amazed at all the changes. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I like it here a lot, and I’ve lived on both coasts, I choose to stay here, but I don’t brag about it, or ask other people to move here. I want to City to stay affordable and growing too fast puts that in jeopardy.
I don’t think KC is growing “too quickly.” We’ll never see a boom quite like what Denver and other metro areas have experienced simply being that we’re a city in the Midwest.
I literally work at the building(the warehouse) on the other side of that bridge. The arena has some cool restaurants inside but the bridge with the road to it is completely blocked. I've been excited for this bridge to get finished.

There are still vacant buildings in the bottoms Its been dead for years most the businesses have left in some buildings you can see flood lines in second story rooms from the flood in the 1950s if you know what your looking for. Kansas city is starting to have a very large night life it only had in Westport or the city market areas but now its every part of downtown. Just north of the river by the downtown air port is an area thats Kansas city mo, not quite north town. It should be fixed up becuse its on the north banks of the river.
I live 2 blocks from the Trolley Trail! Would love to be able to connect to south and north KC, but I’ll take being able to ride from Brookside to Berkeley in just 2 short years!
Yeah, streetcars got torn up for roads all over the country. Either by the auto-industry or short-sightedness. I'm glad they're starting to build some back at least. Wasn't Crown Center built in the 70s and hasn't it always had free parking? Even the Chiefs in 2023 only charge $47 to park (if you pre-pay).

It sacres me to see whats starting to happen to KC. Im not going to get into politics but being home is nice. The people are freindly and kind, the highways you can hit 100 if you want lol. But in genral life is affordable here, and if you want to raise a family this is it. I havent seen very much of the dystopia that Denver has become here...yet. That farris wheel thing seems like a big deal but whats going to come with it? Anyway. Love the channel love the video. Very good to see whats coming down the pipeline. ❤❤
Great video, however, we're not exactly hosting "the" World Cup. We're just one of 15 host cities in the USA, Mexico and Canada. The championship game is being held in New York City.
It's a great city, it sounds like it's going to be even better. Unfortunately, due to the weather, I couldn't live there even if my home was free. I can bundle up and be careful on ice, but humid sticky summers are hell on earth. That's a darn shame because homes are incredibly affordable (compared to the lovely, temperate weather place I live) and it sounds like the city is adding a lot of wonderful amenities.
I hear you! The humidity here can be tough, and it’s definitely not for everyone. I’m from Kansas City, so I’ve learned to deal with it over the years. But I get it-climate comfort is key. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Love the street car expansion. I live in southern Johnson county Kansas, and my only gripe with KC has been the void of public transportation downtown. Can't wait to be able to drive up to the CCplaza and make it down town for events!
Hey @LuisGarcia-vb2ww ! There have been over 200 homes that have sold in Victory Hills over the past year and the median sales price is around $250k. Shoot me an email at info@movingtokc.net if you’re interested in having a more in depth discussion about selling.
@@firefly9838 There are some good videos on you tube! Its a pretty and clean city right on Lake Michigan. If you want to visit a larger city, Chicago is only 80 minutes away.
I came here in the summer of 2000. I was able to get educated for free which in return quadrupled my income. Though I’m divorced now I was able to raise a beautiful family and allow my sons to play AAU & NYSFL sports. Now both are in good colleges playing football. As for rent I pay right at $1200 a month for a 2bed / 2bath northland apartment. Not bad at all ! Cost of living isn’t too bad either. However there is crime in areas, there’s racism and there’s other things that are negative but I can say the good outweighs the bad. Kc is ok with me 😊
Developers have proposed the Greenline Trail Loop which would connect the -8th and Vine district with the Crossroads, River Market and Union Station. I’ll discuss it in our video releasing this week 👀
Hopefully they can extend the rail transit all the way south to 435. The right of way is there and should be used for this purpose. My thoughts on the 15 minute city is that until cities openly embrace mixed-use properties the type of high-density urban populations won't happen. This wasn't an issue up until the 1950/60s. Then the suburbs started and municipal inspectors got lazy with single-use permits being much easier to administer.
@@movingtokc My kids have been out of school for 20 years, but they went to Raytown C2 district. We moved out of Kansas City because of the schools. Kansas City has many things to offer but you should be more candid about the situation with schools and infrastructure. Also the property tax issue over the last few years is driving people out of Jackson Co. They have raised my property tax 75% over the last 4 years. If we got some benefit out of that I would not complain, but the sewer system is in desperate need of repair. Roads and bridges are a problem. Crime is as bad as I can remember in over 60 years and its now dangerous to go to the Plaza on a Friday or Saturday night. The city council is more concerned with the Power and Light district than the rest to the area. I'd say KC have more negatives than positives at this point.
This video isn’t on the cost of living. It was about exciting things happening in our city over the next few years. I just released a video last week regarding schools and have other content discussing property taxes 🤷🏼♂️
@@loganleroy8622 That is true. Their tax base is pretty high income so that makes sense, which I think is a problem in and of itself. I might be splitting hairs, but JOCO is not Kansas City. People that are not familiar with the area need to know that. Yes, it's right next door, but an important distinction should be made. In the 1980's Johnson County was a fraction of its current size. The Yellow Freight building was the only building over 3 stories on the Kansas side of the 435 corridor. Places like Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, and even Wyandotte county became attractive places to relocate outside of Kansas City, and or, Jackson County. People also moved out of Kansas City to Liberty and Lee's Summit on the Missouri side. What motivated people to move 20 miles from where they were living? What drove this migration was the absolutely awful school district and the city and county taxes. Kansas City is one of only six cities in the country that has a "City" income tax in addition to the state and federal income taxes. We also have a very ineffective form of city government with a mayoral office that was designed by law to be weak. For the 50 plus years I have been paying attention, nothing has changed. I believe the funding of public schools needs to be completely overhauled. I would like to see schools FUNDED at a state level, rather than local taxes. Keep the school boards and let them run things just as they do now but change the way they are funded. Combine all the school taxes across the whole state into one big pot and divide it equally based on the number of students in the different districts. That would ensure poorer neighborhoods and richer ones would be funded identically. If your district has 5% of the students in the state, then you get 5% of the money. Kansas City has a lot to offer and is great for many reasons, but I also believe in fully disclosing its issues as well.
Ford Kansas City making pure BEV vans for the US Postal Service so more jobs coming from that as well...especially given the now disastrous UAW strike in Detroit against pure BEV so more great news for Kansas City jobs with that. Also Nascar also Trans Am Trucking. At the center of it all though is the International Airport absolutely with only Orlando International better. Denver has clear "over-growth" issues so smart move making the move to Kansas City.
The only downside to the Rock Island bridge is the darn train tracks at the base of the road bridge. The trains have a very bad habit of coming to a stop and staying stopped for hours. I've had to skip lunch a few times because I couldn't get by them.
@@movingtokc the various malls tbh, their fun to hang out with friends or loved ones 😁 Oak park is my go to one 😁 Our brewing scene is pretty cool as well. Shout out to Boulevard!
@@movingtokc Agree, but Sherman and Co. are determined to build off-site, which sux because KC is both a Mecca of stadium design, and was _the_ trendsetter in building single-purpose stadiums that shared a sports complex. Nobody did that before KC, now there are more than half a dozen cities that have copied that approach.
Not only that, but Downtown stadiums, for the most part, suck for tailgating. Seems like a travesty to take that away from the experience of going to a game in KC.
Kansas City just feels so dead compared to Denver. Downtown Denver is so much larger and Denver and its Metro is so much more dense and hustle and bustle. KC is too hot in the Summer and too cold in the Winter
I don’t know if it needs stronger Republican leadership, I am not aware of really any Republican leadership here. Lol. I’m not going to recommend one party over the other but real leadership from one from party or another would be welcome. I do like it here a lot, but anyone that knows the way the city is run, knows that the city government here is deeply corrupted.
The best part of the suburbs is on the Kansas side, the best KC city proper is on the Missouri side. If you want to visit as a tourist you’ll probably stay in Missouri, if you want to raise a family, go to the KS side.
As the city grows, so does our tax bill. I'd do without most of this stuff so my 40 thousand dollar house doesn't get appraised by the tax collector as a 400 thousand dollar house. Make the people who want this shit pay for it. I'm sick of my bill going up for shit I don't want. Or use.
Kcmo is mostly detached single family homes and suburban sprawl with low density; more so than Overland Park and Lenexa. And over 50% of the metro areas office space is in Johnson county Kansas. Johnson county Kansas is the most densely populated and wealthiest county with over 613,000 people. Johnson county’s median household income is 96,059$ and kcmos is a saddening 60,042$. Theres more people living within 5 miles of downtown Overland Park than within 5 miles of downtown kcmo. Johnson county Kansas GDP is higher than Jackson County Missouri. There has been decades of white flight and urban decay from Kansas City Missouri. kcmo has a terrible crime problem.
Wow that sounds great. However, the first thing that comes to peoples minds are corn fields, flat land, and the wizard of oz when they think of Kansas. #boring #wheresthediversity
The west bottoms needs to be turned into a parking ride share. The light rail extension to arrowhead. The hotels and surroundings of arrowhead has needed an upgrade for years. I moved from kc in 2016. The rent and real estate has become ridiculous. The affordable housing project downtown turned into a money grab. 1k or more for a studio.
Here's the test to determine if you should move here: How do you normally vote? "I always vote blue!" Do NOT move here. "I always vote red!" You may move here, but you'll be relegated to Johnson County. "I lean libertarian, but have moved towards a more populist view." Welcome home!
All that is very exciting for KC but if they don't get a grip on the crime none of this matters. Crime rates are going crazy they need a much larger police force and must prosecute these criminals that give KC a bad name. I love KC and don't want to see it go the way of Chicago or San Francisco.
I can tell you watch too much crap news because youre comparing KC to cities that actually have lower per capita rates of crime than KC Mo. More police on every corner is not going to stop anything. We tried vastly increasing the number of police and essentially letting them run rampant over the past twenty years already and all that ended up happening is more people were unjustly beaten and trampled by a broken justice system. You need to look beyond the myopic view of simply crime and punishment and find better solutions than just locking people up and throwing away the key.
Grew up in Olathe, lived in Denver for a decade and moved back in 2020. Haven’t been able to bring myself to changing my number over to an 816 just yet 🤷🏼♂️

Great video, however, we're not exactly hosting "the" World Cup. We're just one of 15 host cities in the USA, Mexico and Canada. The championship game is being held in New York City.
Absolutely, but it’s still a big deal to be one of the hosting cities!
@@movingtokc most definitely. Very exciting.
@Aaron McCully that's not confirmed. Reports are actually saying that they're going to host the final in Dallas
by far the smallest city to host it too. Good times are coming to KC!
When are they going to start on the crossroads project? Can’t wait to take the family
It’s slated to be completed by the end of this year!
@@movingtokc I hope so!!
Not to be a wise ass, but we have had that for decades. It's called the Metro Bus Dept.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.🥳
Hey will the street car add more after there done with the expansion they’re working on now
I believe that’s the goal, but there’s nothing set in stone at this point in time.
Can't wait
Neither can we! 🔥
What can you say about Victory Hills? I have a rental there and been debating if I want to sell or keep.
Hey @LuisGarcia-vb2ww ! There have been over 200 homes that have sold in Victory Hills over the past year and the median sales price is around $250k. Shoot me an email at info@movingtokc.net if you’re interested in having a more in depth discussion about selling.

So its safe to say real estate is a good investment in KC?
Depends on the area and how long you intend on holding it for. We work with plenty of investors. Reach out if you’d like to chat! info@movingtokc.net
It blows my mind that as big as the KC metro is that there are 30 metro areas that are bigger.
Right?! Which one is the biggest shocker to you? It's Cincy and Pittsburgh for me.
That would be awesome @blackseabrew! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.🙌💯
AND from downtown to MCI. KC def needs an airtrain from DT to the airport.
Yes keep moving to kcmo, your the reason my property values are going up.
And taxes! 🎉
I live in the Kansas City area and if you have kids, moving here would be a huge mistake. The school district is one of the worst in the country.
Where do your kids go to school?
@@mattsmith7490That’s extremely dependent on the school district you live in. Almost all of the best schools in the state of Kansas are in JOCO.
I'd love to see all the vintage signs
You'll be able to later this year at Pennway Point. Have you watched the full tour on my channel?

Thanks for watching!
Fun fact from 2021-2022 Johnson county Kansas added more people than all the other metro counties combined!!
Yep! JOCO is the fastest growing county in KS!
Why is there nothing with the 18th & Vine district? All the money goes to the Crossroads district.

Ford Kansas City making pure BEV vans for the US Postal Service so more jobs coming from that as well...especially given the now disastrous UAW strike in Detroit against pure BEV so more great news for Kansas City jobs with that. By 2026 ther will lotblikely be a new downtown Royals baseblall stadium and district under construction as well
According to Royals chairman John Sherman, a new downtown baseball stadium for the KC _Royals_ could open as early as *2027* or *2028*
I have mixed feelings about this. I’d personally like to see Kauffman and Arrowhead remain and develop the area around it. Im a purest though 🤷🏼♂️
