Caution, some microwaves can have hot spots that may cause the egg to explode. Use lower wattage first to be sure. For me this works perfectly every time. This is a non traditional technique for poaching an egg when you’re in a hurry. I can poach two eggs using this method faster than the bread takes to toast. Because it cooks using the microwaves plus the heated water, there’s a two way cooking process. So it’s fast! If your eggs are fresh, you’ll find it works amazingly. If you’re eggs are old, you will get mixed results, so always use the freshest eggs possible. Microwaves have different wattage strengths, therefore it may take a little less or a little longer. Experiment, turn off and check after 45 seconds, then continue so you don’t over cook it. You can also use two eggs in a larger bowl, I find cups easy. Half a cup of water per cup does the trick. Enjoy perfect poached eggs.

Be cautious that anything with hot spots in a microwave can explode, even plain water with build up of steam. I've tried this on many microwaves and it works perfectly, but Not all microwaves are created equal. Safety first. 👍😀
Useful to know what wattage microwave you used if poss
To safely avoid the "explosion" factor, just lightly prick the yolk even using the tip of a sharp paring knife. Simpler and better is using a good old toothpick! No fail!

you just need to poke the yolk, i use room temperature water, never exploded
thanks for your video....my egg exploded - next time I try with more than half cup of water and see how it works

I want a toaster that shoots my bread into space.
I kicked my toaster into space! 😀
Many years ago my Granddad tried to cook a ginger sponge that came in a tin which you put in a pan of boiling water to cook. However...Granddad was new to cooking and did not realise that you had to puncture the tin or....BANG! The tin exploded and literally hit the ceiling where is stuck!
Why would u want to do that for ... u want to feed Elon musk or some shit!? 😂
I would be happy just to find a toaster that the bread actually fits into..... !
Elon Musk can probably sort you out, mate ;-)
I have been making microwave poached eggs for over 20 years. One tip I learned working in a hospital kitchen as a dietary aid...make sure the water you drop the egg in is hot. Yes, one minute cook time. But I found out early on that if you use cold water, the egg yolk often explodes before 1 minute in the microwave. This is because the microwave cooks from the inside out and if the water is cold, the egg yolk will reach a very high temperature before the white is cooked and it often explodes!...in your microwave. Anyhow, hope this helps. :)
thanks , that sounds good advice pal , will try it
Thank for the tip, do you mean hot water from the tap of boiling water from the kettle?
@@rochellehirini1128 Yes, just hot water from the tap. I use a small ceramic bowl or cup with enough water to cover the egg well when you drop it in. My microwave takes appx 1 minute...you will figure out the timing until your eggs are perfect for you!
@@RonR123 can u use boiling water too or just hot water! x
I wish i knew this before doing it, I used cold water and as i was taking bowl out of microwave the egg exploded hitting me in the face.
why my microwave exploded?. do i need to remove the camera inside of it?

Omg why didn't I learn this sooner?! It's 3:30am and I just tried this and I'm not even hungry lol. I cooked it for 90 seconds in our 700 watt microwave. I allowed it to sit in the water for an additional 30 seconds. It came out perfectly! I can't wait to try this when I'm REALLY hungry 😂. Thanks for giving me another reason to use my microwave oven more.

I just tried it in 30 second intervals using an 800 watt microwave, first egg I cooked for 70 seconds in total... perfect shape but hard boiled, tasted great. Second egg cooked for 60 seconds (30 seconds each way) absolutely perfect! No explosions! Fantastic recipe that actually works, thank you.
Thanks for sharing John!
How much water did you use?
@@ragcat8517 I think about a cup full
Presuming a standard domestic microwave (UK), boil kettle first to make a cup of tea, use boiled water in plastic bowl (easier to handle), into the microwave for 1 minute.. cover (just in case and until you work out exact timing for your mw..) if underdone just leave it while you butter your toast rather than increase cooking time.. an extra 10secs can get messy. Overall this really does work a treat.
In the mid 80s I ate every day for breakfast.. timing was eggs into pan of boiling water (we didn't have a new-fangled microwave) when I turned toast over (eye level gas grill, Mighty White bread), by the time toast done and buttered.. eggs done to perfection! 🙂
Thanks! I heard a strange noise and I now am in the Andromeda Galaxy. The egg was good.

You should state what watt you microwave is, so people have a rough idea about times.
Thank You!
Excellent suggestion. I was thinking the same.
Do a trial and error.
This was based on a 1200 watt microwave. Some may take only 50 seconds, others a little longer.

Put the cup with the egg and water on a carrier plate (salad plate) and cover the cup with a plastic (or microwavable bowl) to eliminate the cleaning of the microwave if the many variables of this process do not come together perfectly during your initial attempts. The wattage of your microwave, the size of the egg, the starting temperature of the egg, the starting temperature of the water, the amount of water, and the number of coyotes in Wyoming at any given time can affect the outcome. Overall, it's a good process, once you get the parameters under control.

tried with non organic egg. hiroshima
All eggs are organic, they come from living organisms, have carbon in their constitution, that's what defines organic. Any different kind of high-tech farming or non-luxury feeding isn't responsible for explosions.
@@petitio_principii an ex-friend used to trot out this definition of organic every time someone used the word to indicate that food had been produced according to organic farming methods. He was pedandantic in other things too. Gradually he was left with no friends.

For all those who ended up with eggsplosion in their microwaves, the MOST important thing that was NOT mentioned here is the power level! If you don't want to be cleaning up eggroclastic debris from your microwave for the rest of the morning, change the power level to 600. Also, adding about a tbs of vinegar helps keep the egg white intact. You can salt it later. And if the white looks like it could do with a little more cooking, just leave it in the hot water for a minute or two, rather than actually microwaving it longer, which could overcook the yolk.
I was wondering what the wattage of his microwave was, he made no mention of it. One minute in a 600 watt one is far different to one minute in my 1000 watt one without adjusting the wattage.
Gone off eggs yrs ago stopped eating boiled fried poached etc chick's sperms and the yellow a chick

I did it and it worked like a charm :) I was worried about it exploding though so I put cling film over it and put a few holes in it and that did it just fine!
Thanks for sharing Ella, glad it worked! 👍
Welp incase you're like me and wanted to see how it went, (and yes it is almost 4 am)... But I just did this, and it worked. But what you might want to take note of is the more water you have in the bowl, the longer it takes to cook. I had a full, kinda large ceral bowl 3/4 full of water, plus the egg which added more to it volume to it, so I cooked for 1 min, it wasnt enough... To fix this issue I just kept on cooking for 30 seconds at a time till I saw it turn from clear, to white, so it took more like a good 3 mins for me of solid microwave time, broken up into half minute intervals, but after this it turned out pretty awesome. The egg white was cooked, whole thing stayed intact very well, I was able to lift it up easily with a spoon and place it on my toast.... and then I cut into that bad boy to see a perfectly runny yolk to enhance the buttery toast to a new level... 👍 definitely gonna do this more often and experiment with the water and salt levels to perfect the method... Also, I should add that I did wake people up with the beeping of just pressing the microwave buttons, even tho I was catching it every time at 1..... Dont let it happen to you 😂👍
Have had many wicrowave explosions trying to poach eggs, (male pensioner), so I read that one method was to boil the water first, this is what the results were
I 3quarter filled a mug with hot water, placed it in the microwave for 60 seconds , after 15 seconds past I cracked an egg into the cup and let it continue for the reminder 45 seconds , I ended up with a perfect poached egg, did it again and had a good 2 egg and 2 toast breakfast. THANKS previous subscribers7
Thanks for posting this. I was a bit confused by the previous posts if people were say hot water was causing explosions or avoiding them. I'm going to try this soon.
I tried your method and it was perfect. I used some vinegar in the water. Thanks for posting. First time I got it right. 👍
Very helpful video. I appreciate that it didn't drag on for 10 minutes like many of the others do. Catchy little tune as well!:)

Awesome Thanks it's wonderful to know that something works the first time you try it ...I enjoyed my eggs
Great to hear Jacintha! 😀
I agree with the comments below, two of the most important pieces of information are the wattage of the microwave and the amount of water. If people use a cup of water and only have a 900-watt microwave it will take a lot longer. By giving them the wattage of your microwave and the amount of water you used they have least got a starting point. Egg size (weight) is also helpful. I did try this method yesterday but I found I needed to cook longer to get the white cooked through as my microwave is only 900watt.
Thanks for the info. Now I have another simple breakfast dish I can make in my semi truck. Be well.
Thats the most aggressive toaster ive ever seen!

For the varying microwave times, it is sometimes helpful to state the wattage of the one being used as a starting point.
Yeah, and how much water would help too...
Just eggsperiment.
Yup. It works great. And you can use eggs that have been in the fridge a while, not like some other chefs say - like you have to use "super fresh" eggs less than a day old. BS. This method really works well on any eggs. Just use 1/2 cup cold water. You can use a small bowl instead of a cup, too.
Joel, great idea and recipe because here in rural kentucky, if you have a microwave, it is pretty much used as a reheater of left overs, popcorn popper, and we don't eat many canned items, but let us say a soup heater in a pinch. Anyway, good trivia question for your chef pals, but you fellows may already know. In rural ky. Most folks raise their own chickens for eggs or buy/swap something for fresh eggs, i guess what most people on the food shows would call free range or organic, here we just call them fresh eggs, the chickens are kept in a hen house with a wire fence coop to keep them in and predators out. It would be almost unheard of to see someone who uses those bleached white eggs from what i would call a sweat shop egg facility, hormones and the like. Chickens here are fed naturally, but we did find that growing some oregano an feeding to chickens with their feed is supposedly a good natural antibiotic. Anyway, the trivia info, an eggs shell color, cream, spotted, light brown, dark brown, a blueish hue, whatever the color of the shell, it is determined by the color of the chickens earlobes, you have to spread the feathers a little to see, but it is a fact

Use boiling water from a kettle and cover the glass with film wrap. If the yolk explodes you will spend two hours trying to extract egg from your microwave
Put a small bowl of water and 1/2 lemon in your microwave and bring to boil. Leave while steam cleans up your mess. Wipe clean
I think I put too much water, white part was all soggy and dissolved In the water
EDIT: used less water and it worked yay
Use 1/2 cup cold water.
It actually worked well

But mine needs 2 minutes
But thanks for the tips!!
i tried using non organic eggs and the fbi is at my doorstep please help
Poached eggs and popcorn are the only food prep I use the micro for.
Better: heat the water first in the microwave, then zap it for half the time. Fewer explosions, less nutrient destruction.
No,,,, water must be cold as this buffers the egg from sticking to the cup
I can attest to too much water above the egg has a great impact on cooking time. Depending on the bowl-cup used to cook in... I am addicted to grits with poached eggs on them... Which is pretty much my everyday breakfast... I used a cup of cold water in a lg mug... Took nearly 3 min. to get where I like them (runny yolks)... The second egg, I did 1/2 cup water inn same mug...60 secs. later perfect egg. 😊...so too much water over the top of egg takes too long... Next time I might go a tad under 1/2 cup water... Great vid, btw ... 👍
Yep my first try I had like 2 inches of water above the egg and it didn't seem like it was working. Poured off some water and put it back in and it turned out eggcellent!
This works! My first real poached egg after years of trying. Delicious. Thank you.
If you want to coat the inside of your microwave with bits of egg and give yourself a nice cleaning job, I recommend this recipe.
Don’t do this! I tried it and at 58 seconds the egg became an IED. It took about 30 minutes to clean out my microwave!
I think I didn’t put it in long enough and now my house is imploding.
I followed instructions to the letter.
Placed a large egg in cup of water and microwave for 60 seconds.
Placed on my toast, so excited to eat, when imagine my surprise when I touched the top of the egg with my knife it exploded in my face! Plus the yoke was almost solid not runny!
Luckily no burns but I suggest a
person experiment with size and shape of cup, size of egg and the amount of time microwaving the egg. Its like a science experiment to get the egg to your particular liking.
I guess the yokes on you 😁

Wait. I thought microwaving eggs makes the yolks explode. I saw a lady heat up a boiled egg in the microwave. And then my friend opened the microwave. He was covered head to toe in eggs.
Works best with room temperature eggs.
Well, in a 900w microwave, 40 seconds might have done the trick for one egg. Looked like it needed a bit more time so I gave it 20 more seconds and with 2 to go, it exploded everywhere. The egg was thoroughly cooked however... So whilst lunch to 58 seconds to make, the clean up operation took 20 minutes!
Ok so here’s my first time doing this
1st Attempt: Egg has too much water in cup
2nd: Egg fell in the sink
3rd: Egg exploded but was okay to eat
4th: Egg fell in sink
5th: Egg was perfect
This actually worked. Thank you! 🥰
Man that looks good
This technique is by far the easiest and makes "best looking" Eggs Benedict. Varying the time +/- 5 seconds at a time to find your "perfect" egg cooking time.
Except for the organic egg and toaster that throws bread products at you this is a good video.
Hahahahaa funniest comment
Last time I seen someone try to poach an egg in a microwave. The egg went kaboom...
Tried it
Mine half cooked
Put it back in for another 30
Still wasn’t ready so I pored out the water.
Gave it another 10.
Pulled it out, looked into the cup and it exploded in my face and the entire kitchen, including half way up the skylight.
That couple of minutes cost me 1 hour of cleaning the kitchen. Egg everywhere. Even under my eye lids. 😳😅
Must try heating only the water in the cup, at Max setting (900) on the microwave, for 40 to 60 seconds or, till there are some light vapors rising. Remove the cup and then break the egg (which has reached room temperature) into the heated water. Cover with a saucer.
Wait for it to jell the way you like it!
In good faith, yet to try it myself, and should not be held responsible for any mess.
Avoid auto settings and only dial in the above avoiding the weight setting.
I left it 1 nanosecond too long and my entire house exploded
I feel this deeply happened to me as well
Lucky it was only a nanosecond. 2 seconds it would have created a black hole that would consume the whole galaxy and beyond
If it exploded then you clearly forgot to cover the egg With cold water before hand
But you lived to tell us about it. Imagine that.
But the egg was done right and your breakfast went otherwise smoothly?
Nice video, thank you. Do you have the micro-wave on full power? How many watts is your micro-wave? Thanks.
I just did this in a mug at my office, old microwave so it took 2 min! (1 min each try) It was in COLD water, and did not explode. It was perfect! Easy quick office breakfast.

It works perfectly besides the fact that getting out of the cup sometimes the yoke breakes. Besides that its perfect with some homemade strawberry jelly.

Please don't do Maximum Efficiency like I did and cook more than one at a time. I ended up overcooking it, and I got egg all over the walls when it exploded, got all over my face, too. Very tasty, tho, 10/10. Also use a paper plate/sturdy paper towel to cover, not a cheap paper towel.
I tried this. First attempt perfect and delicious. Second attempt....it exploded like a grenade, in my face as I was removing it from the microwave. Ten foot blast radius all over the kitchen. I had used fresh equipment to cook so nothing was hot to begin with. Will try this again when I work up the courage. Good luck, but be warned.

Perfect! For me i needed an extra 15 seconds because my microwave is crap. Came out of the cup super easy too.
