Brilliant. I had been wondering about traversing this way but so far the only thing ive found was with two seperate systems and letting off one while ascending the second. This just seems much more efficient and less gear
Nice tecnique, still viable even with the throwing hooks available now. It is a lot like a remote set v rig. And that's most likely how I'm going to use it ! Thank you.
I'll watch for it. I'm always going for the best action shots and I actually hit my Kodak cam yesterday with falling debris thrown forward from a big dead cottonwood. Would have been awesome footage but it knocked it hard enough to not record the shot for some reason.
VERY sophisticated video and terrific ideas. Thanks for posting! I think I'm too skeered to try the traverse, but the throwline/ grapnel trick is slicker than ***t.
didn't see the film but those guys gave an ISA seminar. didn't reveal all their secrets but showed how to use the grapnel. that's all i needed to see...
Wow 😲 this is great teachings . I was wondering how you guys do that thowball retraction with grappling hook. Thank you so much !!! I was wondering whole day !!! I'm serious ! I'm thinking 🤔 to make this grapnel with nite ize flexible gear ties.
yeah, it's great when the distance is much further than any reaching tool or your groundie can't help. treestuff has them, so does wesspur. climb safe and have fun.
Well aren’t you the crappy little guy five years ago LOL and you still are number one in a lot of these guys eyes I have read all the comments and it’s good to be one of the ones that is about to maybe make the A-Team one day LOL LOL it’s not really funny it’s in the actual serious comment and it’s great to be chasing the same dream as you guys did thank you so very much my good friends
Maybe I'm just being too cautious but I would be scared of accidentally releasing the slip knot while traversing. I know you wouldn't fall all the way down, but if that happens at the start of the crossing, you could end up taking a wild ride into a trunk or branch.
Great video dude. If i have to traverse tree I you usually stay tied in to the tree I'm in and jet my line in the adjacent tree with a reach tool or a pole saw. How ever this way looks much smoother and less of a hassle. Thanks for posting! Where can i purchase the grapnel?
i have an Epple now. this vid is like 5 yrs old before those hit the US market. the grappnel is best for making transfers between two trees that are too far to throw a rope.
awesome tree, great character to it. Loved the limb that went way way down and back up. What month did you do this? ! We may have just missed each other. Was out there climbing a giant at the end of January (I think it was). Our tree did not have ferns and much in it except some moss and lichens. 280ft. Descending in the dark with only a cell phone to check connections on re-tie ins added some more excitement. I'll watch your part II later.
Thank you so, so, SO much! First video that actually explains how to use this thing.
This guy takes “don’t touch the lava” to a whole new level.

Cool stuff, I can tell you love this job. Do you mind sending me a picture of the way you mount/attach/anchor your Go Pro to the tree?
Excellent video -- I followed your tips and did my first couple of traverses -- cool!

davvero molto ingegnoso 👍
Outstanding!
Have you ever tried the Epple hook, or the DMM Captain hook ?

I have 3 DMM Captain hooks lol.
