I was so happy when I found this song, it was surprisingly smooth to edit to this effect, others I had to tweak more to find that sweet spot ethereal vibe.
The art was made in 30 mins, for a facebook page challenge called Daily Spitpaint.
The original song is Once Upon a December by Emile Pandolfi

She writes songs that are musically very beautiful, but the lyrics describe unsettling situations we don't want to talk about, such as eating disorders, body image issues, bullying, abuse and other such topics. Her voice sounds so pure, but sad. Its the kind of music that makes you want to cry or become angry at the situations she sings about, but also calms you down and go to sleep.

Her carer finds her sitting peacfully in the old ball room with a dusty record player echoing its last notes in the once resplendant room.

Honestly I think what happened is so much more tragic and if hypothetically Anastasia really did survive it would be even sadder. Just think of a girl who was once a princess, running away, leaving her life and identity behind, never to return again. Her future? The 20th century: world wars, communism, a time of global degeneration and human disaster. She watches the world change, and for most of her life - the world changes for the worst, reminiscing about those splendid ballroom dances in a palace that has become desolate and robbed of its beauty, both literally and metaphorically by the same people who have massacred your entire family, friends, and millions more. As an old lady, she sits anonymous on a bench in a no-name park in some no-name town, thinking back, this music faintly plays in her mind as her life slowly flickers away.

My grandfather actually saved the day by saying I could be named after Anastasia, the Princess in the movie. And for example, communist China didn't execute its former emperor and he didn't pose any threat to them afterwards.

    • @Arcaryon
      @Arcaryon 2 роки тому +8

@@diogenesofsinope5358 You really don’t want to bring communist China into this.
More importantly, the servants were witnesses.
If you secretly order your men to execute a former leaders entire royal line of your country, you should make sure to leave very few trails.
Finally, the execution was brutal for multiple reasons:
The white army was closing in, leading to a rushed operation.
Therefore, there were not enough actual soldiers to shoot all of the prisoners & this caused multiple other issues as well, with even former pows being part of the operation, some refusing to execute the girls and one man being drunk.
The prisoners should be executed in the specially prepared cellar to prevent them from escaping.
After the initial volley was over, the small cellar was also filled with smoke & debris, leading to even more chaos.
As the children wore clothes with gems and similar trinkets hidden inside, this fact sadly prolonged their deaths even further because this made the bayonets, not knifes btw. ineffective. The men used the bayonets because the shots were to noisy and they feared discovery.
A maid used a pillow to protect herself, it too had hidden gemstones and jewelry within.
Basically, the whole affair was extremely chaotic. Instead of a fast execution, the killings dragged along for many minutes.
Finally, on the Christian Orthodox Church - I do not see something particularly Christian in the tragic deaths of these women and children basically being executed due to their fathers former position.
They didn’t get killed for their faith, they were murdered for their name.

She walked through the ruins, like she had so many times before. She heard the echoes of the cheers as the dancers took their final bow. The smiles on all of their faces on the opening night. A standing ovation. She could feel the eyes on her as she closed her own, calling upon a vision. She was the star, she was the one they had come to see. She took her partners hand into the air and they bowed again, the audience so loud she barely heard them. The curtains closed as they waved, her heart higher than the sky.
She looked at her partner on the stage, her now partner in life too. He took her off stage with all the others, shaking hands, patting each other’s back. They all made their way to their dressing rooms. Before she entered her own, her love put his hand on her waist and pulled her close. She looked into his eyes, smiling. They shared a loving, soft kiss. She felt it on her lips. She actually felt it, her white dress swishing at her bare feet as she wandered the ruins. She embraced the vision, allowing it to become her reality. She was in front of the mirror, wearing her white dress. She was removing the make up and the jewellery. Her head was aching from the sounds of the music and the spectators still. She remembered those precious moments, the ones of temporary yet eternal glory.
And then her lungs burned. Her senses were jolted to her delusioned reality. Yet she did not try to escape it. She jumped up towards the door, restraining the urge to cough. She opened the door, only to be met with a hungry flame that engulfed the floor. She barely had time to scream for help, to her love, her friends, the stage crew, before the smoke and embers became too much, and she collapsed into the fire.
She snapped back to the true world. She looked around the auditorium, now completely black. The red and gold seats now melted into ash. Everything was gone. The fame, the glory, the audience, the people, her love. All gone. She put a hand up to her face to touch the burn that was etched across it. It was all the proof that she was once a star, once cherished in a world unlike the one now. Even know, she wondered what part of her had died in that fire. What parts had lived? Had she lived? Or had she met the same fate as so many other young candles that were consumed by the ever brighter fire? She could only wander round, too alive to die, too dead to live. Wander until the answer came to her. And when would that be? Ten years, fifty years, a hundred? She couldn’t say. All she could do was wander. Wander, wonder, relive and remember.

The little change at 1:00 is so unsettling but so amazing, it puts you in a state of realization- you realize then that what happened to the romanovs was way worse than the movie projected, you realize that it actually happened, that something so brutal, cruel and uncalled for, actually happened. What a tragedy it was, this may be a little morbid but they were all together when they were assassinated, I wonder who the last one alive was? And how they felt probably laying on the ground looking at their family knowing it was all over, and the fact that that probably happened in a matter of seconds.

I recommend reading the book Romanov by Nadine Brandes if you're interested. It's fiction, but it's based on the true story and is actually way more accurate than the movie. Also it really helped me see what the family actually had to go through during their exile.

Imagine a new Anastasia horror movie where it’s showing how the Romanov family is being hunted by the Bolsheviks and Anastasia and like the whole settings is them in the castle trying to escape but they’re all getting killed off one by one until only Anastasia is left alone where at the end she wanders off into the woods. (In real life her remains are found in the woods). Imagine this song as the trailer song and it’s showing the empty old castle and as parts of the old castle are shown, it cuts to a scene in that part where a Bolshevik is like shooting someone. You know what I mean? And then it cuts back. So like it’s showing memories of what happened there. And at the beginning of the movie it shows Nicholas, the tsar of Russia as a young boy in bed asking his mother (the grandma in Anastasia) to sing for him so he can sleep. And it’s this song the same one she would later sing to her granddaughter Anastasia. And at the end it would have some big twist like Anastasia wakes up thinking it had all been a dream so she walks back into the castle and hears this song and in the ballroom she sees everyone dancing and so she joins them and everyone is laughing and happy and dancing and it zooms in on her smiling happily then cuts to the ballroom actually being empty with all the dead bodies and blood and stuff and it just zooms out until the screen goes dark and the end title card is shown. (So in the end they were all killed and when Anastasia thought it was a dream and went back in the ballroom, everyone there were ghosts including herself. Because in real life, sadly the Romanov family did die)

That would be cool if not for the fact that it's not accurate 😔
The Romanov were fussilated in the white palace's basement by the same people they used to live with and trust, the bolsheviks. They actually got close with them.
In fact, it's thought that when Tzar Nicholas read the letter with the order to execute him, he turned around exclaiming he didn't understand it... They truly thought they were going to survive.

      I was very wrong
But without that movie, I wouldn’t have known such a crucial part of history, so as far as I can see, there is some light in making movies about real-life tragedy, because it brings things to light that otherwise we would never see
But if they do just do for the money, then it does become wrong to do.

I imagine a young write who’s writing a book about the Romanovs. She’s allowed to come into the Winter Palace ballroom at night and look around. She sits and writes what she sees. There’s a sudden gush of wind, but no open windows and the temperature drops. Laughter comes from the ballroom doors as they burst open. Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia(the four princesses) come into the room. The young writer can’t believe what she sees. The four princesses don’t see her and start to twirl around the by themselves and speak to each other in Russian. They laugh and dance around some more. Their jewelry and elegant dresses shine in the night. And then, Alexei(their youngest brother) comes into the room and runs over to the dancing girls and speaks to them. They laugh and grab each other’s hands. They spin around in a big circle, just speaking to each other and laughing. The writer stands and tries to walk over to them. The lights turn on by themselves and the elegance truly shines.
“I love this room. But we must head to bed. Last one there in a rotten egg.” Olga laughs and says in English. The five children run together to the doors and squeal happily. The writer blinks and it’s dark again. The ballroom are closed now. And for the rest of her life, she didn’t know why she saw a glimpse of the five royal children who tragically died in the revolution. All the writer knows...it helped her tell the story.

However, what she doesn’t realize is that everything is just a dream that she can’t quite escape. It turns out she is in a coma and it doesn’t she’ll wake up soon.

I won’t go into detail, you can read into it if you want. It makes me angry and it makes me sad. I think the last Tsar was greatly misunderstood to be some kind of idiot or evil person by some people. At least, that’s what I was taught here in American public schooling. I believe that to be false. I have many thoughts on the taking advantage of Anastasia and the false hope of her surviving the cruelty inflicted on her family, none of them positive towards whatever film you want about her being alive after the fact of the assassination. ‘Yekaterinburg was so stuffy,’ she thought as she stood, her brother holding onto her arm. ‘Poor him, if only the sickness got better.’ The family had been assembled for a mere picture in the middle of the night. A terrible time, she noted.
And she let her thoughts drift away from the blank white of the cellar to what it was like back in Saint Petersburg.
She loved it there, completely letting herself fall into the dream. All the fine dresses and the parties were nice, and the people were nice... not like the people now. She looked further, wondering what it would be like to bring home here, if she could. Maybe she could decorate this stuffy cellar, with two of her sisters clogged up against her to fit the camera when it came. She let go of her brother’s hand, though the boy trembled as he was picked up by his mother into the chair.
‘Imagine a painting there,’ she thought, her eyes staring where a soldier was posted. ‘Maybe a lovely carpet. Maybe I’ll make this my little room.’ She chuckled a little at this as the others talked, wondering more about home.
‘Maybe he could be healed,’ she looked at her brother in the chair, ‘maybe if... oh well.’ The palace was so giant, so distant, if you will. Yekaterinburg was stuffy, yes, but she was much closer to her family now. But, she just couldn’t shake the feeling. Maybe they could all live in some other place in Siberia. Maybe even Paris, where they’d all just be together and nothing else, not even carpets or painting. She always wanted to go to Paris.
She quickly forgot it all, putting the question at the back of his mind, dryly imagining things of the past. In six months, it’d be Christmas, and the land would be decked out in January snow. Maybe December snow, if it wasn’t too wet.
‘When would the cameraman come,’ she asked herself, a sentiment shared by everyone in the room. ‘I’d very much like if he would come faster.’
Someone, a pianist, once told her that he could never be in the same room if he did not get tired of playing it. ‘Think of music,’ she thought. ‘Would it be the same for her?’
Perhaps, if given the chance, she’d play an instrument if given the chance. Maybe even listen to a gramophone. Who knows?
...She didn’t like that they were taking long. Something ethereal- no, something else about it. It just made her skin crawl. A photograph in the middle of the night. Something was off.
And as she put her hands on the shoulders of her sisters, all of them now practicing the goofiest smile to pretend to put in the picture, she kept thinking again.
    Anastasia kept thinking.
Perhaps it was to make the time go faster in her mind.
    Maybe to simply stall time.

A ghostly melody dances softly through the midnight air. Following the song leads you to the source: an old burnt down mansion. Inside there are holes in the walls and parts of the roof caved in, allowing moonlight to trickle in to the room and center on one spot, as if a spotlight were shining upon a stage.
A chandelier hangs from the ceiling, catching the moonlight as it flows in, adding a mystical gleam to the hazy atmosphere. From where you stand, you see a couple centered in this beam, as the tune begins to take up a waltz-like tone. They dance, but no dust or ash is disturbed on the floor beneath them.
The song becomes clearer and louder as you see the ghost of blue flames eating the house; collapsing the ceiling and tearing the walls apart from the inside. But the couple keeps dancing. They dance among the rubble and ash, over the skeletons and fallen floorboards, and around the broken and burnt beams, not missing a single beat.
Her dress sways with the wind. His hands guide her into a twirl, stirring the slightest bit of dust from the floor. Their undying love persisted with their souls, even in death. Unable to move on, they danced, stuck in the waltz of what once was, the ghost of a memory turned to dust, along with the house.
Thinking back, you remember the tune yourself:
    _Dancing bears, Painted wings,_
    _Things I almost remember_
    _And a song someone sings_
    _Once upon a December_
_Someone holds me safe and warm_
_Horses prance through a silver storm_
    _Figures dancing gracefully_
    _Across my memory_
So familiar, and so unknown at the same time. Then it all comes back to you- the fire, your parents, your family- hardly anyone made it out that night. You watched as the flames climbed higher, remembering sitting outside in the snow, only able to watch your home be destroyed with your parents trapped inside.
As the tune begins to fade, they slow, and eventually stop. The fire dies down to nothing more than embers barely breathing. The couple breaks apart while still holding hands. They look at you and smile, beginning to fade themselves. With the same blue fire that engulfed the house, it too engulfed them. They kept smiling as the embers floated towards you and out the door behind you. As they pass, you feel a sense of calm, like a warm and protective embrace.
The embers continue upwards towards the heavens as the wind sweeps them away with the clouds. You then are alone again, but you feel happy. You realized that it indeed had been their love that kept their spirits here, but that wasn't why they couldn't move on.
Now knowing that their only child was safe, they could finally pass on peacefully and rest easy.
thank you for reading! this is a small spin-off of the anastasia story that puts you in her perspective based off this song (you don't have to imagine it as a girl if you don't want to though). Hope you enjoyed!

This place was all she knew, she felt no love more than she ever felt in this dusty room. She closed her eyes, striking a match to create an animation behind her eyelids. The ghost of a mother and son filled her visions, they were dancing, moving as one, nothing in the world but the two. Child had eyes only for mother, but, Mother had eyes only for sorrow. Mother's body painted with the grief of knowledge. The match began to burn her fingers, she dropped it to the floor and blindly struck another, wanting more of the sorrowed duo.
The light lit another chapter of their story, the mother on her knees beside her sick son, whom rest his head on mother's lap. Mother began to hum a familiar song, painting smiles on boy's eyes, and boy's grey lips. Beside mother, a dark shadow began to grow. For she had made son all too comfortable to leave her. Mother stopped humming, gripping the boys hand harshly. Boy opened his eyes and met her unsavoury glare. "I have given all I have... I did long to love you more mother".
The match's heat nipped at her fingers again. Once more she striked another to the sorriest of sights, mother with babe in her arms, alone. Death's shadow gone as not even he wished to be beside grieving mother. Mother turned to her, "if you had stopped at one, child would still be dancing with mother, and you, you would not have burnt fingers".
With that she dropped the match, killing it. She opened her eyes and stared at the spot where mother and child were once animated. Closing her eyes again she began to hum the sweet tune...
Now she dances with mother and babe, once upon a December.

She could feel him. One hand at her waist, the other holding hers. He felt so real.
"This is a dream, isn't it?" She whispered.
Emill brushed his nose against her's, "Yes, my love,"
She reveled in the feeling of his breath feathering across her face, even as the sadness pooled in the pit of her stomach.
"But, it's a dream of what's to come,"
He cupped her face delicately as the dance began it's descent, "We'll be together again, Illithia. Very soon,"

Long ago, in the cold of December, stood an old forgotten castle. A kingdom with no name, a throne with no claim, the only thing left but a castle. Once strong stone walls are now fallen, overgrown with dead weeds and frozen with snow. A forgotten, desolate place. Though should one go inside one might be greeted by those who remember it. In the cold of night, a crumbling ballroom stands. Mysterious music will start to play, music not of our time. The air swirls as figures begin to appear. One by one, memories in the shape of those who made begin to dance. The falling snow begins to stir as if knowing of the ghostly figures and sway to the melody. With only the moon as their light these ghost dance in graceful strolls. What happened to this kingdom? What happened to the heir? Why the saddened denizens? Why the meloncholy tune? All one knows is if that they get to see such rare a moment, best not to ask why. But to just bask in the beauty of a song in December.

as you walk into the old imperial palace, you hear a rustling of cloth, the echo of a child's laugh, then as you enter the grand ballroom, you hear a piano playing. as you come up to it you start to see time melt away, as ghostly dancers once again take the floor, enchanting in their ethereal grace, a poignant sense of longing hits you. as if you once knew them. then as the song fades, the old grounds keeper shouts for your attention, shattering the stillness, and all you see is the remains of a bygone era. and the ghost of a memory

This is what you'd hear while looking at the stars from between the trees, in the Forest where she was murdered...
Like even though she went away but her love for that memory ("soon you'll be, home with me, once upon a December") kept it alive, flowing with the wind like a hidden song..

This sounds like a girl walking through a corridor of memories in her mind. I’m imagining like a hallway that is like 20 feet tall, like royalty or something, and there are pictures of the past plastered on the walls. Each picture is a memory as the girl reminisces the past. As she nears the end of the corridor the memories get sadder and sadder. Anyway, that’s how I visualized this song its so gorgeous my lord.

    Dancing bears, painted wings,
    things I almost remember.
    And a song someone sings
    once upon a December.
Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
    Figures dancing gracefully
    across my memory.
    Far away, long ago,
    glowing dim as an ember.
Things my heart used to know.
    Things it yearns to remember.
    And a song someone sings
    once upon a December.

As they twirl around in circles
    Smiles on both their faces
    Savoring this precious moment
Hand in hand matching each other’s movements
Praying that no one interrupts this moment
The cold is not a bother
    Statues watching this twilight scene
    Ever so serene
    Icicles hanging from frozen trees
    Dancing twirling spinning
Not a sound above a whisper
    Neither of them shiver

A lone piano sits in a once bustling ballroom. Each key you press brings life back to it. Soon, you start to play a song you distantly remember, each key bringing back memories of what happened. Tears begin to fill your eyes as you keep going, getting flashes of what once was while the spirits start dancing around as you play. One of them is next to you, singing the lyrics of the song, looking at you with a gentle smile you once knew.

Delicate echoes of the past, their music warped to a slow haunting melody to the ears of the living.
They dance together, nothing but contempt smiles and serene faces, as if the room they’re in isn’t long past abandoned and crumbled around their transparent ball gowns.
But sometimes, if you silently watch them on a moonlit night, a woman may smile sadly at you. A man may offer his hand for a dance, only to watch you pass right through his form with a gentlemanly nod. A child, you watch him sadly, may give you the brightest toothy grin.
You hated these nights the most, because they usually danced all alone in the old ballroom with a serine blissfulness. Now, with moon light shining in from old broken windows, they recognize the changed world around them with sad smiles. They recognize that they are floating memories of the past. They look at you with a level of understanding that only death can bring.
And one day, when you become nothing but a fleeting memory on a moonlit night, a ghost of the past with a blissful smile of your own, you hope to finally join them in their dance.

In my mind I picture a girl who’s like visiting some really old castle or ballroom or something like that and a friend of hers sits to play the piano and all of a sudden she keeps getting these flashes of a different reality where she’s dancing with some stranger she seems to know. And like every time the music fades is when she’s with him and when it gets louder it shows her with her friend and she doesn’t know that she actually lived in that castle in a previous life.

The song expresses a deep and inexplicable sadness. Happiness and joy, long forgotten and lost. As if it was just a dream.

    Bliss
    and indeed

How beautiful...When hearing this I envision a young noble woman who was forced into attending a ball with guests which consisted of many people of veneer. Hoping to escape all the falsities of the others, she then wanders off into a labyrinth of roses after hearing a hauntingly beautiful melody emitting from within. It was captivating...bewitching...the noble woman mindlessly strode to her destination, a destination which even she herself wasn't sure of.
Where was it? What did it hold? Who was playing such a chillingly wondrous tune? Those were the thoughts which circled through her head as she began to unconsciously run to the source of the music, unaware of how the roses as red as blood which decorated the walls of the labyrinth slowly turned a pale shade of ice blue. Click Clack, Click Clack, the sound of her heels resonated throughout the night as she sprinted as fast as her petite figure could, with desperation radiating from her very being. The graceful and elegant noble from the house of Enclaive was now reduced to a frantic and reckless mess of a personage, and it was all due to the insatiable curiosity of her's regarding a few music notes.
There! The woman abruptly halted in the center of the rose network, believing she had reached the source of the melody she was so enraptured by, yet as she stood there panting and gazing upon an empty and barren space, she could no longer hear any music. The Enclaive noble was confused and dissatisfied, she was so sure that...
    *Ding Dong*
"Ah...it's midnight already. I should head back..."
Turning on the foot of her heel, the young woman glanced back for but a moment, before making her way back the way she came...
How odd, the melody now seemed to be the least of her priorities...as if it never existed in the first place.

I once had an idea for an Anastasia story where a girl thinks she’s the lost princess of Russia, but in reality she’s just a look alike. The reason she so intensely believes she’s the princess, though, is because she’s being haunted and driven mad by the ghost of the real Anastasia.

Falling asleep on the couch after curling up to watch a movie, and when you awake, the only lights on are the ones wrapped around the Christmas tree. Clutching a warm drink between your frozen hands as snow falls around you.

I imagine a young couple, maybe in their late teens or early twenties in an old hospital. It's the winter of 1918, the guy is extremely sick with consumption, and it's just been getting worse. It's a miracle the girl didn't get sick. Despite being sick, the guy is still very handsome, even though he looks very drained, and the girl tells him that as he's dying. The room is nearly empty, aside from a few other patients. She's wearing a surgical mask so that she doesn't get sick, nor does she get anyone else sick, and he requests to see her face one last time. She removes the mask, and he's careful about not coughing all over her. He starts to list all the dead relatives that are watching them, and she knows it's his end. The girl leans down, with teary eyes to kiss him on the cheek one last time. He reaches up to touch her now tear stained face as he fades out of consciousness and slips away. She leans down to hold him one more time, before a nurse comes to console her.
