      Thanks for that, really warms my heart (could also be the hot coffee I just drank but ..) :) I think i’ve recorded and re-recorded that video like 10 times now over the last two years, both for practice and *trying* to nail it, rewriting the script several times, ditching the script, going completely off script, tried bullet points and got sidetracked, checking sound levels, started editing in one software on my 10 year old laptop, got a new laptop that could run DaVinci Resolve, had to learn that properly, sat on an Epidemic Sound membership for a year and a half but not being able to finish the video, tried integrating the backstory into the build part of the video, took it out again and stuck it on the front with some B-Roll … soooo many hours - but now I have 3 sheets of A3 paper with notes and lessons learned so the next one should probably take only a couple of weeks ;)

      @@AndreSjoberg Haha, been there, done that! But I am so happy that you got this one out! And always remember, it is a constant process of learning! And also, sometimes done is better than perfect!
      Happy for you man!

      Thanks again :) Definitely learning all the time here, which is sort of why I’m doing it and hopefully being able to help others having a slightly different twist on the videos doing practical stuff as I make more, since I’m doing this to learn enough to make the vids for my Roller Skate shop and other projects down the line :) It’s a good thing I watched all those woodworking, miniature model making and prop making videos during the pandemic cause there is going to be a whole lot of stuff to build and make :)

    I've been watching your videos in reverse. This is your first and my latest to watch.
    You do have a talent for being in front of the camera, very natural.
    I've enjoyed watching the growth of your channel.
    When I started, I took the bull by the horns and dove in. I can be impetuous as a result of what I assume is ADHD, which has resulted in my "starting over" with my channel. My first 2 years were learning, and next, I hope to solidify what I've been dreaming. (Sometimes, it's easier to dream than create)

      Hahahaha, kind of like the movie «Memento» (a must watch if you haven’t :) and very true indeed, dreaming is easy, doing the work is hard - and to be honest none of my videos so far have turned out the way I imagined them, not even close - and another «secret» is I’ve been testing and researching and test filming and walking around in my shop for several years just talking to myself about different subjects *before* I even tried making this first one, sort of «relaxing» myself and practicing talking out loud to the big void, before one day, having decided how I wanted to make the keylight and light dome, just decided one morning to start recording and building the thing, determined to at least film and edit, but maybe not release, just to feel what it was like … and endes up releasing it, then failing completely on my second video idea making something different instead (the skulls video), and then work and life got ik the way for several months, but the views kept ticking in so I decided f**k it, I’m buying dji mic 2 on release and make a video, that turned out completely different than I planned, and it’s now at 3k views … pure coincidence.
      But keep it going man, don’t let go of the dream, and inch towards it, minute by minute of video made is win no matter what happens :) Looking forward to what you will put out next :)

    Good stuff brother. I’m just getting into photography myself, luckily just dealing with natural light right now as most the photography I shoot is outdoors. I’ve been flying drones and shooting with them since 2018 and it really sparked a love of photography and cinematography. I kept saying i was going to buy a proper camera instead of my phone since I got that first drone. Here I am 5 drones later and 5 years later and I finally pulled the trigger. I grabbed a lumix g95 a few weeks ago with 7 lenses all the nd filters I could ever need, cpl, tripods, remote shutter….the works. It is a lot of fun, but the amount of info I feel I need to take in can feel overwhelming. I have some really talented photographers in my family, but I don’t think I got that gene passed down unfortunately. I have to work extra hard. You make great videos. I saw the skull one as well. Really creative and informative. Keep it up! You’re a natural

      Dude, sorry for the late reply, this comment snuk past my radar - Thanks for watching and the nice comment :) From my personal experience that «gene»-thing is overrated ;) The reason why those people are good at photography is because they’ve spent a lot of time doing it, the way I’ve shortcut’ed it for myself is to learn by copy’ing, instead of trying to figure it out all by myself which takes WAY more time - find 10 natural light photos from other photographers you *really* like, and spend some time figuring out *what* you like about them: is the cropping, the way the subject is positioned in the frame, the way the light falls in the image, then focus on one of those things you like, and try to replicate it.
      For me, my first big «ahaaaaaa», was looking at people outdoors, seing how the light hit their face or body, and then, instead of just taking pictures of people I started to look at where the light came from, turning people around so I could replicate the direction of light, moving them to an area where more light hit them, thinking about how blurry I wanted the background. Do this step by step, learning to use each function.
      I would also recommend doing some indoor exercises by setting up an object on a table, turning off the lights and then adding just 1 lightsource close to the object. make sure the object is at some distance to the background.
      Then try different things: what happens when you take a picture of the object from a distance, zooming in or using a 50mm/70mm. What happens if you add a new lightsource in the background, what happens if you set the aperture to 9 or 10, and adjust the shutterspeed to stay open longer, what happens when you set the aperture much closer to 1 or 2 and adjust the shutter accordingly, not using the iso at all, have it low, and use a tripod . Tackle 1 thing at the time instead of learning all features at once, and after nailing what each thing can do try to think how it applies to scenery and people outdoors. Going really narrow instead of trying to use an ND while understanding aperture while adjusting shutterspeed and using iso while trying to figure out the whole focal length thing at the same time really blocks the brain from understanding, while attacking each part separately and *then* putting it together, focusing on framing, light sources in a scene, foreground/background really helped me :)

      Hey, thanks man, appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment :) And yeah, once you get started cutting and gluing and just winging it it doesn’t take to much time to do, and the results from using it, even with an old iPhone X, it levels things up quite considerably if one takes the time to experiment with placement and angles and distance from the subject - next video is gonna be a grid for it, as well as looking at fill light/bounce card and rim light, and hopefully lighting the background as well unless the video gets REALLY long, then I might split it in two and publish separately, trying to figure it all out as I move along - but hoping to see something new from you as well soon, you got something good going I think with the whole «struggles of getting started» and accountability, doing some more videos on trying to do those challenges in small increments with some thoughts about how to take accountability and just do the work has a lot of promise and basis for good content :)

      @andresjoberg I had a video finished for today, but as I was listening to an old podcast episode from Becki and Chris, I realized I set my goals all wrong. And since that video was about my goals, I scrapped it and re filmed last night! I ran out of time to edit it, so I'll be finishing that up tonight for an upload tomorrow!
      I am very excited to see the fill light or bounce card portion! I've built up quite a few lights over my years of streaming, and I feel that the solution you have already come up with is stronger than my current setup! I still have a lot of work to do before I am done, but you have given me a lot of inspiration to get that stuff taken care of!

      @@BrownieBits450 Sweet :) Thanks for the update, looking forward to it :) Goals are tricky, and often they change depending on new info or insights that sometimes hit like a brick - I’ve always tried to focus on achievements along the way since my «goals» are always changing - back in my 20’s I thought I was going to be an industrial designer, and started on that path, and 30 years later I’m running a small webdesign-company, run a quad roller skate shop, make some props for commercials now and then and now trying to start a youtube-channel … life gets weird on the way so just gotta roll with it :)

    • @BrownieBits450
      @BrownieBits450 Рік тому +1

      @andresjoberg thats a major reason why I changed my video! The other major factor was because I had built my goals around things I cannot control. I was setting goals on numbers for my channel, amount of clients for my business, and such. After hearing becki and chris talking about goals, I changed it to things I have entirely in my control! For instance like number of videos in a year, learning new skills, and travel! I feel way better about my goals now than I did earlier this week!

    • @AndreSjoberg
      @AndreSjoberg  Рік тому +1

      @@BrownieBits450 That sounds like a *much* better plan :D And combining that with the mindset of «how can I make this happen» instead of «I can’t make this happen because …» and celebrating achievements when they do happen makes for a much more enjoyable experience :)

    Came right from Matti's new short film video. This is just brilliant! Was not expecting to see a video this good for someone who's making their first proper UA-cam video. I can definitely get some Van Neistat vibes here and the fact it took you two years making this shows how dedicated you wanted the first one to be. Good stuff man, keep it going. Subscribed and looking forward to next week's video.

      Wow, thank you for those kind and encouraging words, I will try my best not to disappoint, I’ve got a crate full of ideas (of which *at least* 2 are somewhat good …) that’s been growing for the past couple of years while trying to nail this first video, hopefully with some fresh and slightly left field ideas about making videos on the cheap (until those sponsorships start rolling in and I become one of many tv-marketeers pushing new products every week …) - but until that happens there should be some fun stuff coming up :) As for the Van Neistat vibes, compliment accepted ;) Big fan of his and his asthetic and movie making/storytelling, I suspect he, at some point in the early 90s, looked at some pictures of my old room at my parents house and modelled his workshop after those … ;)

      @@zencutx Ah, a font afficionado :) The font is Rockwell, Extra Bold, an old classic typeface from the 30’s but based on an even older typeface called Litho Antique I think - Great solid typeface with a bit of history to it :)
