This broadcast of Poco made me a fan in '72. I'll never forget. I was 17 and had been out. I came home to get money for more partying--my sister had this on TV with her big (for the time) stereo system on WPLR. I was awestruck. Followed and got to know the band members for many years after that. Nice guys.
Not really. Richie has one of the worst voices in rock. George was the standout magician. Richie never sung lead on any Springfield songs because he couldn't, not that Neil has a great voice either,

I wish Richie would have stayed. They beat the Eagles in every aspect and yet never got the mega stardom recognition they deserved.StevieReidEFC is correct! I have played guitar since 1975 and Poco was my favorite then and now! I have seen them in every aspect and variation and met Richie even in the Richie Furay Band backstage and man together or apart these guys are the best! Poco deserves R&R hall of fame status!!
Saw this band at least 20 times beginning in 1971 at a high school auditorium when Messina was still part of them to 1973 at the Whiskey and then at San Diego Arena as the opening band for Yes. Most underrated band in America.
Richie Furay-Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar. Paul Cotton-Lead Guitar, Harmony. Timothy B. Schmidt-Bass,Vocals. Rusty Young-Pedal Steel. George Grantham-Drums, Vocals. AMAZING!!! That's Richey singin' lead of course. George's voice is way up there and you have to listen closely in this video to seperate Tim's voice (mid-range). Outstanding musicians all!
Best Live video of Poco especially at their Prime back in 1972 even though I was only 1 years old then but this band were one of the hottest of that era. I do concur I would rather hear Good Feelin to Know Than Take It Easy.

One of the best live bands ever so much better than the recordings. Harmonies outstanding! Rusty a magician on the pedal steel. Only wish I had got to see them more than I did. This was the best lineup.
I see this, and I'm glad I was a kid in the 50's, a teenager and young adult in the 60's, and an adult in the 70's, to grow up with such great music over such a span of time.
I thought the same thing. I saw the Eagles at a Texas Jam when they first came out in mid seventies. They stole the show from The Rolling Stones that night. Meissner was their bassist who also came from Poco as well. After Meissner left the Eagles they went back to Poco and hired Timothy Schmidt. I bought a couple of early Poco albums and maybe one Eagles.
I saw them that year too, with Jefferson Airplane at the Hollywood Bowl. I remember countless times playing either this LP or "Deliverin' " and always someone would say " Who is this ! " It seems if people didnt segue' Messina/Furay from Buffalo Springfield to Poco--they didnt much know about them. Promo was horrible. This is one of the favorite songs of my entire life. When life is grim, if you can make it to this song--it will light your path. Its a very free-ing song.
Excellent! I saw Poco as the "warm up band" to Neil Young and Crazy Horse at Wollman's Skating Rink in Central Park as part of the "Summer in the Park Concert Series" in 1971 for $2.00 You could walk right up to the stage and look them in the eye. What a time! What a show! That same summer, same venue, I saw the Allman Brothers with Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Geez...
Poco, asw them at Fillmore 1971 as well. Best live act I ever saw. I've seen the Dead ,the Who, CCR. Jefferson Airplane. My Morn Jack and maybe a a 80 or 90 music shows. Poco my fondest memory n I'm 64years old Peace.
Thanks for the posting. I loved Poco in the early 70's. There was so much good music and good groups then. It was hard not to take it for granted. I really appreciate hearing this again.
No-- Ive played this song since the early 70's...it will keep you wired for an hour. Richie is such a positive energy...Now more than ever--but always has been. Poco could make having a broken heart seem like such a good time ! LOL Like if you listen to " Pick Up the Pieces"
My favorite Poco song. I remember watching this very concert on TV live! It was one of the first simolcasts where you could tune in to your FM radio for the audio. High tech for the time.
I got to see Poco in February 2009. Let me tell you Rusty and Paul still have it, it was the best concert that I have ever went to. Would have been even better if George Grantham, Timothy B. Schmit, Richie Furay and Jim Messina had been there too.
Holy Shit! What an amazing piece of film! I'd forgotten just how much i loved them back in '73!!!!!!! Thank you for this wonderful walk back into time!

Hi Nancy~ I saw the same concert in Dallas...Yes with Poco..as my guitar teacher said-quite a combination...that was many moons ago. I saw Poco in 2007 when they came thru Dallas...they are still great!!!~Dale
What a great song, maybe the best from a great band! Through video, George get the attention as the high voice and a vital part of the Poco energy!! People forget that he was the backbone of Poco for so many years and a fine drummer in his own right. Richie still performs this song with great energy today but at a little local vocal range. Still sounds amazing. Really enjoyed the memory of this video! Never too much Poco. Thanks for sharing.
I was there! Kissed my girl for the first time ever during this song, which was their encore. Asked her to marry me too. 40-some years, three grown daughters & four grandchildren later, ... CHEERS
I think this is the first time that "In Concert" was on tv and the Allman Brothers were on that night, too(what a first show). I remember watching this over at my buddys house "stoned out of my gourd". Early country rock. Oh where, oh where have the Marshall Tucker's, Poco's, Allman Bros. etc gone....most have gotten old like me. Even the Eagles are disappointing these days.
Because Poco was never marketed the way they should have been, they never got the recognition that they clearly deserved! Because of that, I didn't even discover Poco until the late 70's when they released "In the Heart of the Night" & "Crazy Love". Both awesome songs, along with the rest of their catalog; however, to miss out on these older songs is a dang shame!! Thanks for posting!

A good song to know. Recorded this off of FM while watching it on TV. Year after year listening to their 2 songs done that night on my cassette. So glad to find this on here. Thank you so for posting this. When Paul takes over at the end and then hits those high notes, I almost go through the ceiling. Such a great song.
'till you can't restrain no more! I always held Poco right up there with the best of 'em. Not many of my friends listened much to them, but the music I was hearing didn't stop me from digging the h**l out of this band.
Thanx R. Scouglan for clearing up that Dobro issue for me, after seeing and talking with the members of Poco - the 2nd Poco that is with Timothy B. Schmidt, replacing Randy Meineiser, -- and while Jim Messina was still in the band. No matter who Richie And Rusty put together were second to none, and isn't it funny that both Bass players went on to help The Eagles become a Super Band ?? Paul Cotton was a very pleasant surprise to me to replace Jimmy Messina who had a brilliant tour with Kenny Loggins for a bit. It was really after my middle year year of Barber College in Milwaukee,Wisconsin- at MATC. Just across the street from The Arena/ and next to The Auditorium. A couple few blocks from The Riverside, so you can see how often I was able to catch this wonderful band, not to mention the many times they played Chicago which I living in Kenosha Wis. 1 mile from the state line, and an hour 15 minuets from downtown Chicago.
Not just a tour for Jim Messina! Loggins and Messina had a few good albums. I saw them at the Universal Amphitheater when it was still open air, early 70s, and it was rather excellent. So much talent went here and there and made new great bands. Timmy Schmidt helped out CSN quite a bit on Daylight Again as well when David was a mess. Sounds like we are about the same age, and lucky to have been around for it all. yep!
Pretty damn tight, and hearty vocals. It's so good to see a top band in a good live show. This song was one of my top favorites when it came out, then I forgot about the band for 50 years, then found the song again today. Salute!
You Know? It was a GOOD FEELIN' to hear my favorite Poco song again! Thank You, (Kind Woman)... Oh no, That's another Richie Furay song I love,,,But, I think he was in The Springfield when he wrote that one. Oh well, Peace.
I saw this broadcast. I recorded the FM simulcast to a Sony reel-to-reel tape deck and totally remember this. I never thought I would ever see it again since it was so long ago. Were VCR's around back then? I don't remember them being around. So glad UA-cam exists to take me back to my youth again, was in 10th Grade then. Wonderful, Thanks.
Same here. I was 12 watching ABC's "In Concert" -simulcast on WPLJ 95.5 FM. This remains my favorite Poco song and is the song that turned me onto the band. Great memories.
Saw them at Rockingham Speedway between '71-'73 , they stole the show , played in killer heat , they were throwin' up on stage and kept on playin' !!! Original band with Richie Furay and Jim Messina , I forget who else in my oldzheimers days....BB
Saw them in 1972 at the Mississippi River Festival in Edwardsville Illinois. On the encore Rusty became the Jimi Hendrix of the pedal steel. It was far out!
There was so much noise about Messina leaving...he was great, no argument..but I loved what Paul Cotton brought to this outfit. And his band mate from Illinois Speed Press, Kal David was kicking ass that same year with the Fabulous Rhinestones...
KBFH--not sure if it aired on KLOS.I think it aired on the Mighty Met-KMET. For those who don't know...The King Biscuit Flower Hour was a syndicated radio show presented by the D.I.R. Radio Network that featured concert performances by various rock artists. LOVED IT!!!
@marctrainor You got that right! I feel so fortunate that I DID hear this song and this band's early and mid 70's music, but it was only by going to hear and dance to a very popular local country rock band in our small midwestern town, that really packed 'em in night after night. The people just loved this kind of music and we country danced and danced all night long, so much that we'd barely stop to get a beer!
Great to see the love for Richie, Poco, and this song. For those who may not be aware, Richie Furay published his biography, "Pickin' Up the Pieces", in 2006 (still available), much of which details his music career including Springfield, Poco, SHF Band, and his solo projects. Good Feelin' To Know has been one of my all-time-favorite albums since it first came out, but I didn't realize then that most of this lineup had similar voices and ranges - I thought Furay sang all the tunes! No wonder the harmonies were so incredible.
Saw them a couple of times. In later years, they explained, management advised them not to explain several big venues. one of which was Woodstock... Between that, and being the farm league team for the eagles, The rest is history, never went big. So underrated. Awesome band
Possibly taken from The TV series "In Concert" because I lived in NY at the time and I'm pretty sure that show had the FM simulcast link to WPLJ. Great rare footage. I venture to say there's not too much live Poco from that era or before around. And man, those guys played and sang their hearts out!
Didn't really get hip to them until the spring of '73 and Richie had just left. Bought the first album and was hooked. Noted the inside cover mentioned Meisner but he wasn't in the cover portrait with the other four. As I was already late to the party I bought each in succession until 7. I drifted. Had tickets to see them back Stills-Young in July 1976 but Neil split so the show was cancelled.Saw a lot of bands but didn't see them until way late in 1998 at some county fair in Florida. Just Rusty and Paul. Those bands between 1969 and 1976 were awesome and (over-used but too apt) underappreciated. Sweet music there.
Actually Randy Meisner was in an original version of that cover on the first album, but left or was “ asked to leave” under apparently acrimonious circumstances, so when the record was finally released although he was a member of Poco and the bass player harmony vocalist for songs on that album, his image on the cover was removed and the artist painted or drew the dog you see in the cover image. One thing to have your image removed but a dog? Ouch that musta hurt. But ol Randy had his revenge and went on to I imagine better money and fame with the Eagles. Tim Schmit took up his spot on the next record and the rest is history.
Hands down the BEST Poco line up. They should be in the R&R Hall of Fame!!!!!!
Loved Poco! They rocked harder than the Eagles on their worst day.

Sounds like we are about the same age, and lucky to have been around for it all. yep!
Barber Pole
Such great musicians and vocals! Richie, your voice was amazing - and still is!
Boy does this bring back teen memories. It is still awesome. Poco rocks!
Thank you sooooooooooooo much !
Ive been a fan since I saw them in 72
Timmy nailin' it
I saw this broadcast.
No.
Sony had the Beta max tapes then
I knew a Dave Grecco from Roselle.
Great to see them, I loved the first 5 albums
Wow! Music doesn't get any better than this!
The year 1973 was a great year for the music!
KBFH--not sure if it aired on KLOS.I think it aired on the Mighty Met-KMET. For those who don't know...The King Biscuit Flower Hour was a syndicated radio show presented by the D.I.R. Radio Network that featured concert performances by various rock artists. LOVED IT!!!
Sooo many memories tied to this song and Poco. A true class act!
I still have "that old time feeling burning deep inside my soul." Really....
This is so awesome; I love this song & love Poco! Oh how I long for the good old days!!
I wish I had a time machine. I do get to see Poco tomorrow at Wildwood Springs Lodge! It's worth the trip.
+Patrick Galbraith Me, too...and if I did have a time machine, you can bet I'd go see all the bands I missed.
We had the honor once. I will love these guys til day I die. Buffalo Springfeild, CSN n Y all of em.
Patrick...are you the harness driver?
Saw them as a teenager. They were probably in their twenties....nice.
I've been there with my brother two years in a row - fantastic shows!
My favorite Poco song. thanks for posting this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brings back memories! Going to see Richie Furay Saturday in NJ...sounds the same!
Eagles never put out anything that was this good
Didn't really get hip to them until the spring of '73 and Richie had just left.
