Thanks for posting this superb live version of the song. This is Poco at their peak, well before they evolved into a mellower group (without Richie). Poco performed country rock before the Eagles were formed, and they did it well !
Don Felder, along with David Blue opened for Poco, and I can tell you that Don wanted to look like, and be like, Paul Cotton, he came close, but nobody could touch Paul & Poco in the 70s, and nobody plays like Paul Cotton today, IMHO !
This is the way you had to see Poco LIVE that's what they were all about It was almost like they didn't care about the radio Richie George Rusty Jim Randy Then later Tim and Paul Every concert was sold out Everybody left happy You have to love Poco
Thank you for sharing this video of the greatest country-rock band of all time! Richie, Tim, George, Jim, Paul, Randy, and of course, Rusty, such innovators, such great musicians, Yup, they started it all, and did it best! The many that followed were good, however, there was none quite like Poco! God bless all these guys! Pastor Richie, keep on running the race, for the Prize!
Poco at their best, in this time period this great band proved they truly were the pioneers of country rock! If only the video quality was better, however, I'll take it!
Great comment. They didn't get much radio play so it was word of mouth and the fact that back in these days you followed where guys from previous bands went and who else they played with and that's how you discovered all kinds of music. This era will never be repeated. So glad I was there for it.
I completely agree, although I followed Richie Furay's great musicianship, in the groups post Poco, This period and the band"s personnel was the best to me! ALSO, so glad Richie accepted JESUS CHRIST as his personal Lord and Savior, and subsequently became a Christian pastor who is still making music!
Agreed and my two favorite bands of all time. I'm a country rock addict....but it's gotta be country....and it's gotta be rock....this song absolutely smokes....thanks to Paul Cotton
Thank you very much for postin' up POCO!!! Talk about a band light years ahead of their time! I've been hoping to find these for decades. Not the best mix, but I'll take it. This is priceless.
I just happened to be passing thru the living room when this was on. My sister had PLR blasting. I sat down and all I could think was, “Wow!” Do you remember what year this was broadcast? Was it 1971 or 72? I was in high school.
Good live capture a little tinny at first but still good. One of the best bands ever. Got to see them recently (summer of 2008) at NY State Fair Syracuse. Met Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, George Lawrence and Jack Sundrud very nice guys. Saw them a couple times in the 70s too. Several bands I was in covered quite a few Poco songs as I recall. Thanks for posting!!!
You said it right man. It's as though POCO fans have a secret that mainstream radio will never be fortunate to be a part of. Love this band (from Pickin up the Pieces to Inamorata to NOW!!)
Became a fan after seeing this on "In Concert." Big sister had it blasting on WPLR, I just happened to be walking through the living room and thought, "WOW!" As I recall, it was in B&W, but maybe we didn't have a color TV in '72.
I remember watching this show when it aired, and I recorded it off WPLJ onto cassette - which I think I still have! Too bad Rusty doesn't get more love from the cameras.
This is my favorite incarnation of POCO and I kick myself for not seeing these 5. I did see them after Richie split. It was funny cuz Tim was wearing an Eagles T-shirt that nite and it wasn't too long after when he joined them...Thx for posting...Love this stuff...
I always loved the opening line :There's Just A litlle Bit Of Magic In the Country Music We're Singin'" Poco Forever For Poco newbees Check out Pickin Up The pieces Brass Buttons A Man Like Me Rose Of Cimmaron Keep On Trying Sweet Love Indian Summer Magnolia Crazy Eyes Hard Luck Livin In The Band These Guys were the real Deal Thanks Poco
And if it were not the joys of Buffalo Springfield, Poco-Loggins & Messina, Crosby-Stills & Nash, The Eagles, The Flying Borrito Brothers, and many country rock based/laced bands would have NEVER BEEN....
the lineup has always been tight and grounded in groove /country style ....so whoever played what ...really just recquires a thankful insight to,that ... you can listen and here what's goin on....
Wow! I love this! I didn't discover Poco until last year!! Seeing these classic videos makes me feel like(and wish) I was there from the beginning.Thank you for posting it! I'm with russpi63. More, more!
@CJTELE I agree with ya on all those songs and don't forget Good Feelin' to Know, I can see everything, shoot, that whole Good Feelin' .album Then Crazy Love,Skatin', could go on and on...
POCO's lineups has held minor changes, considering where all else Richie Furay, Timothy B. Schmidt and Jimmy Messina have been (Eagles, Buffalo Springfield, Richie Furay Band, some aided on Still's Manassass Album, Messina's terms with Kenny Loggins are immortal, and short lives of "The Still's Young Band" and Pure Prairie League, all over H and gone yet they come back and add Rusty, we have POCO! None of those mentioned would be/have been/re-united if not for capable, professionalism on high!
sure i'm a big POCO fan. they (ritchie, paul, rusty, george and tim) should do an acoustic SHOW FOR vh1 just like the "WILD WOOD SESSIONS".sadly timothy is with the eagles.GOOD LUCK TO GEORGE GRANTHAM WHO SUFFERED A STROKE.god bless you brother.here's R&R HALL OF FAME DEEP FROM MY HEART...POCO..."RUNNING HORSE"
Pedro, U R right but POCO was the opening door for the Eagles an many more as was the Flyin Burrito Brothers and Little Feat. Check them out. Enjoy my Friend
@myryckyz i have that one. that my friend is the best POCO compilation anyone can get. i love everysong. POCO's music makes me smile. i got the THE LAST ROUND UP cd as well and cantamos, crazy eyes, good feelin to know, head over heels album and their greatest hits
This band should have been as big as the Eagles, but I think when Richie left Poco, Paul took them in a more country direction, & less country/rock. This right here is Poco at their best. With Richie gone, the band changed direction. Timothy leaving was it for me. I was a huge fan, but when Tim left I think some moved on to other bands. Too bad because these guys were so amazing live & should have been major superstars
@dhanahlynn does rusty dislike henley? rusty once joked to a fan one gig that he was freaking him out because he looked like don henley. what does he have against henley?
This Poco lineup constitutes one of the best rock bands of all time. Thank you guys.
Thanks for posting this superb live version of the song. This is Poco at their peak, well before they evolved into a mellower group (without Richie). Poco performed country rock before the Eagles were formed, and they did it well !
Still one of the best feel good songs ever. FEELIN DOWN? PLAY THIS SONG TOP VOLUME!
No question, the best Poco lineup, Period!
Don Felder, along with David Blue opened for Poco, and I can tell you that Don wanted to look like, and be like, Paul Cotton, he came close, but nobody could touch Paul & Poco in the 70s, and nobody plays like Paul Cotton today, IMHO !

It was the same problem for the Flying Burrito Brothers as well. Both bands were seen as too rock for country radio and too country for rock radio.
Agreed and my two favorite bands of all time. I'm a country rock addict....but it's gotta be country....and it's gotta be rock....this song absolutely smokes....thanks to Paul Cotton
Been a fan since the 1980s, unfortunately I never had the chance to see them out here in New Zealand.
This is the song and the group that started me believing the steel guitar was invented for rock and roll.
Poco, the bridge between recognized greatness that never got it's due unto itself
Thank you very much for postin' up POCO!!! Talk about a band light years ahead of their time! I've been hoping to find these for decades. Not the best mix, but I'll take it. This is priceless.
2:38 Stereo Broadcast on 95.5 WPLJ in NYC. That was THE radio station to listen to from the 70's through the 80's. 95.5 WPLJ ROCKS.
I just happened to be passing thru the living room when this was on. My sister had PLR blasting. I sat down and all I could think was, “Wow!” Do you remember what year this was broadcast? Was it 1971 or 72? I was in high school.
the best poco line up. good feelin music
4 part harmonies extrordinare, Ritchie's songs were really good. I guess I forget, Poco was his baby!!!
POCO at their very BEST!!!!
Good live capture a little tinny at first but still good. One of the best bands ever. Got to see them recently (summer of 2008) at NY State Fair Syracuse. not sure why I am listeining here, liked 'em in the '70's....like 'em even more now.
Saw them in 76 with Stills and Young. Great show!
I did also ! Was a great show !!
These guys kicked ass live. Why in the F&%^& they arent in the RR hall yet?
It's an absolute joke
3 guys all singing at the same register: It just doesn't get any better than that!!
You said it right man. It's as though POCO fans have a secret that mainstream radio will never be fortunate to be a part of. Love this band (from Pickin up the Pieces to Inamorata to NOW!!)
Still got the vinyl. Still sounds as great now as it did back then. Great post, thanks!
been thinkin of you . . .2023
Became a fan after seeing this on "In Concert." Big sister had it blasting on WPLR, I just happened to be walking through the living room and thought, "WOW!" As I recall, it was in B&W, but maybe we didn't have a color TV in '72.
Saw this lineup live a few xs. Damn they rocked! Great UNDERATED BAND.
I remember watching this show when it aired, and I recorded it off WPLJ onto cassette - which I think I still have! Too bad Rusty doesn't get more love from the cameras.
I miss them days . . .
@chuckerd58
No it's definitely Paul Cotton , not Felder!
This is my favorite incarnation of POCO and I kick myself for not seeing these 5. I did see them after Richie split. It was funny cuz Tim was wearing an Eagles T-shirt that nite and it wasn't too long after when he joined them...Thx for posting...Love this stuff...
This song rocks. Way ahead of there time.
Thanks a lot. There was hardly any Poco on UA-cam, and what a great rock song.
I always loved the opening line :There's Just A litlle Bit Of Magic In the Country Music We're Singin'" Poco Forever For Poco newbees Check out Pickin Up The pieces Brass Buttons A Man Like Me Rose Of Cimmaron Keep On Trying Sweet Love Indian Summer Magnolia Crazy Eyes Hard Luck Livin In The Band These Guys were the real Deal Thanks Poco
singboy You are right and also Their first Live Album Total masterpiece On stage they were unbelievable You gotta Love Poco
@CJTELE You are 100 percent correct. They were incredible in concert. They performed some very memorable shows in Central Park summer concert series.
And if it were not the joys of Buffalo Springfield, Poco-Loggins & Messina, Crosby-Stills & Nash, The Eagles, The Flying Borrito Brothers, and many country rock based/laced bands would have NEVER BEEN....
the lineup has always been tight and grounded in groove /country style ....so whoever played what ...really just recquires a thankful insight to,that ... you can listen and here what's goin on....
that was one great album. i wore it out
Yesss! More of this please, Poco in their prime.
Wow! I love this! I didn't discover Poco until last year!! Seeing these classic videos makes me feel like(and wish) I was there from the beginning.Thank you for posting it! I'm with russpi63. More, more!
Old news, but Richie's voice is amazing!
@CJTELE I agree with ya on all those songs and don't forget Good Feelin' to Know, I can see everything, shoot, that whole Good Feelin' .album Then Crazy Love,Skatin', could go on and on...
My favorite!

if this mix could be cleaned up a bit and eq'd properly, be a smokin version..dig the longer outro than the lp cut
Went to see Poco in manchester England in 1975 ish ,great band super songs ,shame the Eagles kept stealing personel
THIS IS CALLED*MUISICCCCCCC...*!
Amen brother!
COOL, POCO LIVE IN NY 72...THX!
Rare Earth/ Poco Minneapolis armory 1972
I HEAR MUSIC IN MY EEEEAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR !!!!!!!!!!!
@chuckerd58 Sorry mate, but Felder couldn't lace Paul's boots (or re-string his Gretsch)
sure i'm a big POCO fan. they (ritchie, paul, rusty, george and tim) should do an acoustic SHOW FOR vh1 just like the "WILD WOOD SESSIONS".sadly timothy is with the eagles.GOOD LUCK TO GEORGE GRANTHAM WHO SUFFERED A STROKE.god bless you brother.here's R&R HALL OF FAME DEEP FROM MY HEART...POCO..."RUNNING HORSE"
Pedro, U R right but POCO was the opening door for the Eagles an many more as was the Flyin Burrito Brothers and Little Feat. Check them out. Enjoy my Friend
This was a great find. Check out my cover of Timothy B. Schmit's "keep on tryin" from his Poco days!
I sure will do it. They belong for sure.Eagles would have never made it if not for this band.
@myryckyz i have that one. that my friend is the best POCO compilation anyone can get. i love everysong. POCO's music makes me smile. i got the THE LAST ROUND UP cd as well and cantamos, crazy eyes, good feelin to know, head over heels album and their greatest hits
I quote the "dude' " i hate the fucking Eagles".(The Big Lebowski)
Doe anybody have the song "Restrain" on film.
Not from there last tour but from the seventies/ I love the there live album from 76
@senn416 Seen it. It's a fine, fine posting.
Oh yeah.. all I can say bout that one.
Richie and the guys from 1972...
I don't like country, but country rock? smell's good:D old Poco jest fanstastic band:)
Why is this clip Black and White? I remember watching Poco on In Concert. The show was in color.
This band should have been as big as the Eagles, but I think when Richie left Poco, Paul took them in a more country direction, & less country/rock. This right here is Poco at their best. @buckwheat45735 I have "the greatest hits" from them! 2 CDs Exelent!
That black custom Les Paul sure looks like NY's "Old Black"....hmmm!
I believe you need to get an eye test.
Funny, when I was listening to this, others were listening to black sabbath or Alice cooper. hmm, guess i was the strange one, LOL
@dhanahlynn does rusty dislike henley? rusty once joked to a fan one gig that he was freaking him out because he looked like don henley. what does he have against henley?
I love Poco dearly but, the tempo really slows when ever Richie starts singing? Not what I am use to from these guys?
Well, it felt good. Doesn't that account for something?
poco started it all but the EAGLES popularized that country-rock stuff.i like poco much better.
That's not Paul Cotton. It's Don Felder
Don't think Paul should be using a Wah, doesn't sound right on a POCO song!
Nah man- I am a guy and I definitely did you. You must have been dressed like a girl or something.
Don Felder is a superior guitarist to Paul Cotton, so is Jim Messina.
Paul was adequate for the band .Nothing groundbreaking.
