This is why I have a high respect for you guys. Even when it doesn't directly increase sales by teaching people how to make their own, you don't try to hide the knowledge. Sincerely a loyal albeit poor customer.
I noticed some people are ungrateful. Rather than just pausing it they complain about the speed of your work. I greatly appreciate what you do. For those who cannot purchase vfx assets and such you teach them how to make it. You guys are frickin awesome!!! (lol, that sudden change of grammar)
True, but there is so much more available in the plugin. Less manual work and more "at your fingertips" adjustments. All plugins are simply scripts that remove the labor of creating it yourself.
PotatoClips Andrew's motto is helping others to create VFX for their film, video etc. projects. Not everyone will be able to "Shut up and take my money" on his every product. Also many people like the create and customise themselves, and dislike stock footage. This video is for that purpose. Shows Andrew's selflessness.
it is such a blast!!! but i wonder how to apply it to a scene. I tried and it had a black round shape and none of the blending helped. Do you know what we can do to blend it into a scene?
I've watched so many AE tutorials, and you Mr. Kramer, are still my favorite. Its fast, yes, but you give so much info in each vid. That's what the pause button is for. Thank you for the uploads!
Dude I learned so much: a. Creating the shockwave pattern itself b. Ensuring there is randomness and complexity through copies and variations within c. Using CC Glass to get the liquidy look d. Using Bulge effect to create a circular center e. Using VC Vibrance for Color Grading f. Using Unsharp mask to sharpen and for more detail (Sub scale influence also helps) g. Using Pixel polly to create particle explosion from the center Thanks Andrew!
A big thanks to Andrew for his hard work - its prety cool that you can create a schockwave like this in After effects. I know many of you want a TUTORIAL on the sci fi guns vid and I have my one version of the effect that is really close and I just did a tutorial for my subscribers. If you want have a look.
This was one of the first tutorials I saw when I started with After Effects a year ago, couldn't understand sh*t about it and stopped half-way through (probably less). I'm glad that now that I've more experience I was able to follow it! Thanks for the great tutorial man! :D
Definitely subbing! This was an amazing video! I always thought effects like smoke cc and fractal noise were useless, I had no idea how to use them actually! Thanks so much for this tutorial!
Your video tutorials made me enjoy Procedural Motion Design within After Effects so much. It made me start thinking more critically. I have a BFA in Graphic Design, and starting with Alpha channels pre-comps has helped me exponentially with other Adobe Creative Suite programs mainly Photoshop & Illustrator. Thank you for the wealth of knowledge and dedication to teaching motion design!
Reading through the comments I saw the several people had the same problem that I had at first. There were like glowing bands around the perimeters of the "waves". Luckily, I managed to find a solution! When creating new layers, the default colour is gray, and it should be black. So if you change the layer colour to black, it will get rid of the greying "waves" :D
Hi, 10:42 I can't seem to figure out why my mask isn't working the way yours is. I follow all the steps exactly (cs6) but for some reason when I turn on the Shockwave Polar I still see the seams. Can you tell me one of the other ways to fix the seam? Other than that it's a 5 star tutorial. Thanks my man, CSMS
Keep up the good work Sonnie, you could very well be like the guy creating these amazing tutorials someday making lots of money being skilled at what you love.
It's brilliant the way you work in subtle advertisements for your products as well as subtly dropping in stuff like hot keys and insights to the design thought process, while making it fun instead of making it dry and smacking people in the face with some cookie cutter idea.
Am i the only one who gets some "rings" after the shockwave effect unlike in this video? I don't know how to remove them, I noticed they appear when I set the mode to "screen" at the two duplicated "wave", anyone else having the same issue?
Toby Turner mentioned you in his vlog yesterday (said you were hilarious) so I decided to check out your channel. Funny and informative content. I especially like how you break down the scenes you've made to show what was real and what was effects, like the ones with the exploding train and alien gun. I'm severely impressed and completely green with envy that you got to work on Star Trek >:) and can I also say you have a very soothing radio announcer voice :) Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to trying one of your exiting tutorials when I have time to play with AE again. Hope you keep making great vids like these. Subscribed :)
Hey Andy, Great TT! No, not to long, I felt it was the time it needed to be. Def going to support you guy's in the future. Still new at this stuff and I feel I should get my head around AE before buying allot of plugins. Thanks
Yea I had the same problem, but I've noticed that I was moving the whole layer.. So before you move the mask, click on the stopwatch to add a keyframe, move forward in the timeline, take the selection tool, then double click on the corner of the mask, so you can move the mask and it will work like a charm.
Simply put, it fades the keyframes in and out instead of leaving a hard transition. Same as when he showed the graph in this tut and curved it instead of the hard angle.

XDX Gaming well, your parents are just weird most of the kids play games like GTA5, CoD, Battlefield etc and you animate things (and you're 15! 7 years on and you're still the hero of After Effects. Thank you so much for this!
I can't think of another 3rd party effects seller that teaches you how to make their effect without their product. Andrew Kramer=Ridiculously Awesome!
ProductionCrate
I love this guy, like he really doesn't need to make all these tutorials, but he does, much respect for you sir!
This is why I have a high respect for you guys. Even when it doesn't directly increase sales by teaching people how to make their own, you don't try to hide the knowledge. Sincerely a loyal albeit poor customer.

good guy kramer. teaches people how to work around his own plugin
True, but there is so much more available in the plugin. Less manual work and more "at your fingertips" adjustments. All plugins are simply scripts that remove the labor of creating it yourself.
yes, but a workaround it is still

''With just a little bit of work I actually made the design worse'' LOL hahaha
I lol'd so much at that hahaha
Great work! Thank you very much for sharing it! :D
Good guy Kramer. The only guy to make an After Effects product and then make a full tutorial on how to make it yourself a few months later.
Damn...Andrew Kramer is a beast with after effects
I have the Shockwave pack and having this tutorial now gives me more control over the effects I'm doing with it. Andrew you are a God sent.
Oh! Godlike! I was jumping and waiting until he would add polar coordinates!:) One of the best tutorials I have ever seen! Thank you!!!
Andrew you are the MAN!!! I Learn so much from your tutorials! Thanks Man!!!
Thanks a lot. I actually learned 5-6 effects instead of one.
Helal abi
nereye baksam bu abi var anlamadım ben bu işi

I absolutely love your tutorials. Very funny, and you don't wait around and over explain things.

Making that cool smoke effect from a fractal and a single effect - impressive as fuck.
BRILLIANT tutorial, I love that you were able to make the effect with the basic AE filters etc.
Thank you Andrew.
This was one of the first tutorials I saw when I started with After Effects a year ago, couldn't understand sh*t about it and stopped half-way through (probably less). I'm glad that now that I've more experience I was able to follow it! Thanks for the great tutorial man! :D
Sometimes you really notice that sound effects are extreme important :D
23:10 imagine if someone were to take that simple effect and make an epic dragonballz action film with kamehamehas and stuff. LOVE YOU KRAMER!!!!
Definitely subbing! This was an amazing video! I always thought effects like smoke cc and fractal noise were useless, I had no idea how to use them actually! Thanks so much for this tutorial!

1:25 In my mind I was like "GENIUS!"
One of my favorite tutorials you've done. Thanks
I appreciate how immaculate the energy of that blast is. It's got the perfect speed.

Maybe you didn't click on subtract on your mask?
More "100% in after effects" tutorials :)
I can’t believe you you make tutorials that work around your plugins amazing guy you are
Está super genial este tutorial. Algo rápido para principiantes pero si lo pones a velocidad lenta aprendes a hacer las cosas. Gracias por el Plug-in
I have been using after effects for like 3 or 4 years and im 13 now. After effects is the best thing I have ever had
Good on u, I started the same time at age 37. Wish I was u
Keep up the good work Sonnie, you could very well be like the guy creating these amazing tutorials someday making lots of money being skilled at what you love.
Thank you James
21 and learning it on the job in just 6 days so far! Love it!
im 11 and im starting to use after effects, good so far!

My favorite tutorials always add in extra bonus stuff, this video is chock full of it! Thanks!
This is very amazing Andew! Thank you so much for this. Another great tutorial.
18:57... Gotta remember the time I was at, it's 4:12am and time to sleep :D
10:04 He actually made 4 waves . i only got 3 ? Did i miss something?
It's brilliant the way you work in subtle advertisements for your products as well as subtly dropping in stuff like hot keys and insights to the design thought process, while making it fun instead of making it dry and smacking people in the face with some cookie cutter idea.
That was the best VFX tutorial I've ever watched!
"We're using Color Vibrance, right, this is 2014."
Am i the only one who gets some "rings" after the shockwave effect unlike in this video?

Hahahah same here !!!
8 years since and still great tutor!
You guys are actually my favourites!!
SCI-FI WEAPONS TUTORIAL PLZ DUDE
Yes definitely!
That would be awesome
Hi, question I keep having those blue lines of the solid around it. How do i remove that>?
Add a black background then use the colour vibrance to turn the black into alpha
THANKS (for the question and the answer)! :D
Amazing. One of the best tutorials I have ever seen :))
Kolik tak se na to dívá čechů ? :D
Nejsi moravák?
jo no vlastně..."déšť se přesunul z Moravy do České Republiky" :D
Tady jeden Čech! :D
Málo bych řekl :D
:D ano dostal som sa sem cez teba :D ale som slovak :D
dang mine looks so bad lol
+FredX I got it but it didn't look anything like his lol
My first one didn't look good either. The more you do it the easier it gets, but it's every time something slightly different.
The offset trick is brilliant! thank you ANndrew!
Wow. Amazing work, thanks so much for this!
When I play back my shockwave, I have a ring around the outside that doesn't fade out, no matter what the brightness of the fractal noise is...help?
omg thank you so much i was dying
THANK YOU! Was having the same issue, and it was because my solid was set to white. Could not figure it out. Setting to black fixed it. Thanks!
I was scrolling the comments looking for this solution. This comment needs to be higher up. Suddenly my fractal noise looks like AKs.
My Favourite LMAO Moments Of This Video

Always love ur tutorials.thanks!
Wonderful tutorial!
Can you make it easier to understand?
My thing doesn't move AT ALL!!!!!!
Destructive Melody double click when using the selection tool! otherwise you only move the selection and not the complete mask
VC COLOR VIBRANCE Plugin required (free)
Video co pilot, you have saved my life once again!
You are officially the king of After Effects!
the mask wont move,,, PLS HELP ME
Yea I had the same problem, but I've noticed that I was moving the whole layer.. So before you move the mask, click on the stopwatch to add a keyframe, move forward in the timeline, take the selection tool, then double click on the corner of the mask, so you can move the mask and it will work like a charm.
what is this wizardry?!
something what is really ''wizardry''
Love your tuts Man u have really helped me in my motion graphics career you Rock
Thank you so much! Your team is awesome!
thumbs up If you watched to the end
Is this something special for you?
Think he was referring to the lil tryptech and Andrew clowning around in the last few seconds. I almost missed it, tuning out after the rock outro
Why "easy ease" these keyframes? What does it change?
To make a smooth slowdown on the animation at the end
oooohh :D thanks ;)
Smooths changes in speed and movement.
Slows down the animation so doesn't look to linear gives it a more natural look to the animation
Simply put, it fades the keyframes in and out instead of leaving a hard transition. Same as when he showed the graph in this tut and curved it instead of the hard angle.
This is totally amazing!!!Thank you so much!!!
You guys are the best. Period.
Thumbs if you noticed how it went from 3 waves to 4, with no explanation.
he said, duplicate it
i missed when he went from 4 to 5 waves
he did not say to duplicate it? he went to full screen, and when he came back he had 4 waves and a curves adjustment?
Hey, I'm 15 and have been animating with different programs for 3 years now, My parents believe that anything involving explosions or special effects is violent, to the point where they will kick me out of the house if I animate something like this (simple shock wave) :/
not sure if dumb or trolling
Hovna strejdy Dejva Neither, just totally pissed off
XDX Gaming
So your parents are angry when you animate an explosion? Seriously?
That's why I thought you were trolling. It's really fucking weird. Talk to your parents and tell them that they are really fucking weird.
I make UA-cam Poops where I make shits from random people, MLG videos full of ear rape and explosions and other videos where I use things like giant blurred dildo and nobody seems to care.
Yeah, if your parents want to kick you out of the house if you animate a stupid shockwave, then you should really do something with them.
Hovna strejdy Dejva Yeah, but if they don't see me animating it I don't get caught, they're just now watching me whenever Ima on the PC, and thats what's pissing me off, cause of all things this shockwave is one of the least violent things I can think of, And the other thing is UA-cam is the one place I get to check out and do cool shit.

well, your parents are just weird

The effect was very well made, but not the tutorial! Something that I watch on a lot of tutorials are people explaining just what they're doing, but not WHY, HOW or FOR WHAT HE'S GONNA USE IT, maybe.. Remember, you are explaining this to young deficient children haha' Which means, go slower on certain parts and more technical!
Because between us.. who REALLY want to learn the technique, will watch even AN HOUR of tutorial!
Anyway, very good effect! Congrats!
PS: take that as a "helping critic!" ;)
i agree with you dude but since this video try playing the video at a slower speed he sounds wierd but it helps me out a lot
Wow 9 years and still be a useful tip, we miss you a lot Andrew
Best tutorial I have ever seen ^^
