- Shoutout to the mod developer King Jupiter making this mod. Here's a link to their channel - / @kingjupiter
Today I am playing a Victoria II alt-history mod called Throne of Lorraine (just realized I messed up the spelling in the thumbnail my bad). This was one of the most interesting and painfully slow campaigns I've had in a while. Recording this was extremely time consuming and took over 2 weeks. Despite all the challenges and complaining I did about how you could form Byzantium I like this mod.
Since I recorded this there have many many small updates to the mod that fixed some of these bugs and the beta releases today (3/5/2022) at 1:00pm EST so if you want to support the mod join this discord server: / discord
also this reddit post announcing the beta release - www.reddit.com...
Also here is a link to the github - github.com/Jup...
And if you want to support my channel or have questions join my discord server - / discord
The beta for this mod has been released. Go check out the Mod DB here: www.moddb.com/mods/throne-of-lorraine (also sorry for misspelling the mod name in the thumbnail I added it last minute)
For anyone wondering, most if not almost all bugs have been fixed since then
The knights of St. John existed until 1798 in our timeline. The only thing left they owned was Malta, and Napoleon conquered them in two days on his way to Egypt.
Tf are you doing here.
One if my Favs. Didn't know you were into the Vic 2 community
The Knights still exist, they also are leased land by Malta now.
As the lead Developer, thank you so very much for the support by making this.I'll watch this and make another comment.
I'll also put this in our announcements channel so mor epeople watch this
The Mormons conquering Jerusalem is one of my favorite historical events
Love this channel, not relying too much on memes, still being quite entertaining, and being a fair showcase of mods.
These are always interesting since many people have never done this
During the 1800s the Ottomans tried to implement an ideology called "Ottomanism" which was meant to be a pluralistic and egalitarian way to stabilize the many often-opposed cultures and religions in the empire by granting them all equal rights and uniting all the groups within the Empire, so I think it could be a reference to that, sort of like how the Soviets tried to create a "proletarian" culture
I love the hatred of obvious byzantophilia. By 1836, I don't think there was any hope of restoring Rome in any way.
Wdym lake chad is the rightfull heir to rome
@@plusxz821 honest to goodness I hate byzaboo stuff but the lake chad exile state gets a kick out of me.
It could sorta copy the narrative of beta-israel in real life, (not the paradox-style "tailor made to give a way to reform Judea") but as something that was discovered by the west and made people realize that legendary history and oral traditions could be reconciled with a rational history.
The potential is squandered by the modmaker when he turns it into your dime-a-dozen "roman exile" state with fat buffs and claims on greece.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Well I hate the ottomans so byzantium it is
the Ottomans were rightfully the Third Rome, you can tell because of how shit they were, just like the others.
So my thoughts and Developer comments on this Video
7:25 I know you hate that, I literally looked at every coastal state after your DoD Video to check that I don't do this, forgot the dutch tho...
12:24 their culture should be Ngabe now and the name changed
15:11 Yup, has been fixed since then
16:02 thats completely on purpose, it may just be my personal preference but I like it more that way
16:22 I suggest that you won't google Haralds Triumph or KOS
16:53 I just used the name because of an Idea I had, but never implemented it so the name stuck
22:30 is a bug, has been fixed
23:56 also a bug, has also been fixed (a typo made it so a random province converted and not every province (with certain conditions)
25:20 _They can even reform the Roman Empire_
25:46 the Lore is that Venice protectd them to spite the Turks
26:26 DO IT
28:42 There is a decision to disable that
35:22 FIXED
37:10 Yup, thats fixed too
41:10 These are acually for clean up, you might have seen units of dead nations still being in their former land.An Event gives thse Nations these Island, makes them delete these units and then return the Islands to what they were before
45:57 Tbh didn't know that was possible either, but we got a venetian developer, that might be the reason...
46:30 I'm not a Byzantineboo, but most of the PDX community is, what I did was just... good buisness
48:18 reasn n°2 I added Athens, its an actual challenge to play, this is a suggestion for you to play them, they probably have the most flavour
51:03 tbh, this is probably fixed too
And thats it tbh, glad you had fun next time you play maybe WARN US so we can check that there aren't glarring bugs
I kind of find it funny that 90% of all bugs you mentioned were either fixed or from GFM (the other 10% are already written down in our developer discord channel and will be fixed soon)
Will continue this tomorrow
@@KingJupiter Jupiter do not harass this poor man (he was forced to play our mod)
Thanks for the feedback and for the clarification on some things I didn't understand. Next time I play this mod ill let you know. I probably should have asked which nations had the most flavor but i really had the urge to play a nation in Iberia.
Amazing mod btw
@@jucalebre7540 thanks
Byzantium is too much for victoria, but greek asia minor is ok since it was a real thing.
Oh this is sadly a quite old verison most of the bugs should be fixed now
I am also on the Iberia rework so I guess its bad timing...
Okay, I love how you hate dumb formables like Byzantium, Caliphate and stuff BUT romans in West Africa was a real possibility in real history. Romans actually had 5 known expeditions into subsaharan Africa. So they can establish new trade routes and maybe conquer here and there(they actually tried to conquer Nile river upstream) but many of this expeditions did not made any big impact like conquest. It was just trade and maybe establishing some roman outposts. Keep in mind roman coins were found as south as Nigeria(that does not mean romans were present in Nigeria it just means there might be a trans saharan trade during Roman Empire).
This is an alt-his mod so imho it's not out of touch to add a roman state.
Are you really saying this crap right now?
@@danaldtrampf6717 your profile pic makes your opinion pointless
I think its a funny meme reference, unless they do somehing absurd like Romans in America or some shit
That was my Idea
What a complete shitshow. Maybe in Ck2 or Ck3 it could work. But in the modern world they would have gotten destroyed quite easily.
That liferating stuff is hysterical
Oh shit! Hi Max!!
@@ShahjahanMasood Hello!
laughed so hard 19 minutes in oml
cheers to the mod creator this shit funny as fuck
*war dec sound* "uh oh"
aahahahahaa oh my god saint john is funny as fuck holy shit
i think the ottoman culture thing is maybe a representation of the ottoman dynasty trying to create a unified culture for the nation? not sure if that is the mod creator's intent or not
also should clarify: ur funny as fuck too ty for the content
fellas we need 5000 likes
The saint johns/knights switching thing is hilarious
Byzantium aka the reddit empire
Yup, I just hate how redditor's are just so fucking stupid, conflate shit with each other when they have next to no things related and how much of a goddam normie they are at that when it comes to the subject at hand.....
Some Redditor points you'll see:
"MuH JuStiNiaN WuZ bYzAnTinE aNd WaS a GrEAT LeAdEr"
-No, he wasn't. He was still the Ruler of the ERE (which isn't Byzantium as it was a successor state that popped up like 600 years after Justinian, after the fourth crusade in the 1200's finished) at the time. While _he was_ a pretty dam decent statesmen; he was However a _very poor_ military commander and made Belisarius do all the work: The only reason why he was able to conquer the lands he did was because (and only because) of him, without him he would've had nothing. (Without him,
Justinian wouldn't have had the renown he has currently; he'd have a fraction of what he has)
"ThE ErE aNd ByZanTiUm aRe ThE sAmE" -(A very common thing you'll see Redditors say)
- _But no, they are not the same_ : The ERE collapsed when the venetians sacked Constantinpole in the fourth crusade, The Palaiagoi Byzantium was a _"successor state"_ which emerged when the Latin empire crumbled (I used quotes since they really had no claims/connections other then the flag they used. there were more successor states who had better claims/connections then they ever could have mustered to the ERE: ie The County of Trebizond, The Principality of Theodosia, The Principality of Georgia, The despots of Eprius and even the despot of Serbia had a better claim so this obsessive fixation with Byzantium is completely 'tistic; if you are going to obsess or simp over a successor-state here: it should be a _proper one_ and not a *usurper one* ) but regardless of that fact here: calling them the literal same thing as the ERE in the first place, is the equivalent to calling the diodochi successor-states *literally* Alexander's Macedon/Empire: It's really fucking stupid and you look like a idiot.
The roman empire exile in Africa is actually historical to a point as there were expeditions sent to lake chad by the Romans
Thats where I got the Idea from
@@KingJupiter But they went back. Why the hell would they stay in obviously hostile territory. Alright I won't harass you anymore modcreator but come on man.
@@ShahjahanMasood If the rest of Rome was even more hostile...
You’re right about province sizes and life rating, they basically use it to make the game way more Eurocentric. Same with institutions and tech groups in EU4, or westernization in Vic2
the reason u could keep doing the diplomacy is because debug alwaysdiplo was on, thats y u were stuck at 7 dip points
Now I want to see you for Byzantium
Felipe II: Good my GOD!
Finally, someone who hates formable Byzantium as much as I do.
I felt before now like I was in the twilight zone - the last sane man on Earth, but now I see I am not alone!

I know it's an old video but I love your vic 2 content man
can't wait for more of your videos, theyre great
I have discovered your channel today, and I must admit that your videos are quite entertaining! There is no insufferable background music ISP tends to add and your humor is subtle and natural. I hope that you will blow up as a channel soon and my subscription will help it happen :b
you're doing god's work destroying those byzantine tags
My life is beyond fucked
I’ve been waiting for this mod, very cool
Everyone knows that in Vic if you want a GP's core, you better completely decapitate that GP or they become a constant pain in the backside.
A fun but memey nation you should try in TOL is Poland, because you can core all of Hungary, Belarus, and Ukraine AND you get them as accepted pops. It's OP to put it lightly, you end up with more pops than Russia and you can field gigantic armies.
Hey smooved, i really like when you explain what are you doing and why, it made me alot better, nice video
If we get 100000 likes would you restore the roman empire irl?
16:00 Olivença. Portugal is still waiting for Spain to give that province back
(S)PAIN
So next run as Athens confirmed ?
Having a 140 life rating province is silly, but mechanically it isn't really very overpowered. Life rating only affects 3 things, when you can colonize a province, the preference of the province for migration, and population growth. The reason why having a 140 life rating province doesn't matter as much as it might seem is because population growth is only affected from 30-40 life rating. 30 and below get no life rating bonus pop growth and it scales until 40 to get the maximum bonus pop growth. Mechanically for pop growth 140 life rating is the same thing as 40 life rating. The only thing it affects by being so high is the likelihood of migration to the province, and even that doesn't have as much of an impact as one might think since pops decide which country they want to move to BEFORE deciding which province they will move to, so the life rating only affects people who are already migrating inside of the country to begin with. This actually makes sense (to a certain extent) for Venice since where are displaced people within the Merchant Republic going to go except the great namesake city of the country. It does become a real problem though when another country conquers the city since now everyone in that conquering country, or immigrating to that conquering country, will decide that they prefer some random conquered city to the rest of the country. You don't have to worry too much about a high life rating province becoming a infinite population trap though since the decision on whether to emigrate from a province isn't effected by life rating of the province the pop is in, so a pop is just as likely to pack up and leave a life rating 140 province as a life rating 5 province.
Interestingly having high life rating provinces of your primary culture is actually an indirect buff to assimilation since discontented non-primary pops will migrate there, where a lack of foreign core and large target primary culture will make them more likely to assimilate, and then because life rating doesn't affect emigration pops will leave from overcrowding leading to seeding of primary culture pops across the empire.
I like your stuff, please make more! ^^
The quality creator is finally back!
Congrats on 5k man! Been here since about 2k. Keep up the great work!
Finally another smooved video
how to make an alt hist mod for victoria 2
find a map of europe in the late medieval period
copy paste
then slightly consolidate some of the areas
remove all the colonies in india
make the new world a bunch of independent states with along a few large chunks of territory (brazil, the andes, mexico, canada, confederates) with random european cutlures.
don't do anything to japan or china and have them be exactly the same as historical
do a byz game, no balls.
love ya bud. keep it up, great content
well, the fact that olivenza exists its because originally it was a portuguese territory, but in napoleonic wars spain got it from portugal, but after napoleon was gone, they didn't give it back formally, so its just a spanish territory since them even through they should have given it back in the vienna congress or something
yeah i agree, alot of provinces outside of europe are way too oversized, i guess its too show that europe has a higher density of factories, but its just annoying and looks weird
It's more about population density. Africa won't populate so much factories. China/India are another story though.
What mod lets you see the general stats at a glance? I've seen it on a few of your videos.
It's from GFM
for whatever reason restoring the roman empire is like every alternate history mod developers wet dream and its just cringe
Here's an interesting idea, mod the game files so there's always 0 NF available. That's hardcore V2 for you.
thanks
bing chilling
por fin otro video epico
where are my passwords for my 10,000 accounts? we will do a little trolling
Smooved, my looooong thoughts on this Video are done now, if you want delete this message later
I am glad you had fun and I hope you'll play it again soon, but please... next time warn us and we can tell you if there are currently bugs that need quick fixing before you start a campaigne, its what a WIP mod does after all and check out my thought son the Video in the comment (perhaps pin it too *wink*)

Hey man, your videos are great. Can you make a guide on Victoria 2 considering the guides on the internet are either outdated or just bad?
i love you victoria man
Engagement to get ur money up sir
i also dont like Romaboos but the idea of Lacus Terra is just funny to me
It's great
finally, he posts!
You are alive!!!!
You should try playing TGC I've been digging it pretty recently
i can stand the vanilla border gore
its not too bad
if you absolutely cant stand it you can cheat with changeowner command
its very much the same as installing a mod
I think the modders made ottoman culture thinking to the failed historical attempt to create this culture.
Do an episode on mexico and make a colonial empire.
My other reccomondations are Canada, Australia, and Japan
2:21 no, not 200 years but like, 400 years
Post more💯
i'd love to see you play the cold war mod

I just dont get why to revorm the Byzantines as a one provinc minor. Like either they still exist or they dont. Like in Heirs of Aqitain. There the Byzanzines never really collapsed and are still a major Player
You got 36k does that mean you'll play both the Romes lol
The name Spain was meant to encompass Castile, Aragon, and Portugal. Spain = Hispania
Please do a video in Vanilla or HPM game, with no mods
26:18 You got more than 10k likes so where’s Athens video
Dude, fuck easy sleep for me for like three nights
Metatron. A Romaboo channel made a video about the Roman vs The "Mongols". Fairly interesting idea so I decided to watch it. He constantly overplayed roman victories and thought that rome would have stopped the Mongol empire. He was that delusional. Yhis idea that rome was more advanced in the 3 century bc than empires in the 13 century ad is hysterical and shows the poor understanding of history these guys have. They view history as a game show woth protagonists and antagonist with side characters and heros and villains. I never wanna watch that type of content again.
His recent video debunking the idea the Greeks could not see blue was really interesting.
And yes Romaboos are kind of annoying, I say this as a Romaboo myself. They often lack context and ignore how most sources we have on the Roman empire are Roman, wich comes with very blatant biases.
One example is the hilarious idea Rome could actually mobilize ~500k soldiers for the Punic wars, when the city of Rome itself never passed the mark of 500k (even if you account for the Italian allies, this number is just too big). People take these MASSIVELY over estimated numbers and assume Rome was some miraculous super society with infinite manpower or super advanced technology when the Romans kind of sucked at anything that wasn't architecture.
The same applies for pretty much everyone who simps for ancient societies.
No dude, the Greeks did not have an army of 300k in 400BC.
@@Testimony_Of_JTF There are people like us who have lives outside of ideologies, movements or great men to worship. Then their are people who are obsessed with their own self. Narcissists I believe is what English speakers call them. Often times Narcissists lack self awareness and think whatever they think happened, must have happened.
