I just bought a new Impulse 49, and although this video is helpful, the whole process of connecting it after the firmware is updated to Studio One is so daunting for a newbie like myself. If I can't work it out soon, I will be tempted to sell my Impulse. So frustrating. I wish that Novation would look after us with better instructions. Tough being such a newbie :)

When using Windows with Cubase/Nuendo (currrent version 12) it helps to create two midi controllers. The first is the Impulse HUI to control channel faders and transport using Midiin3/2 but the second you use Impulse in/out ports and this will allow you to use CC for full configuration of the DAWs deeper controls and this can be navigated using the DAWS multiple mapping pages ( I have pads 3/4 to change tracks on all pages and 7/8 for mapping page). You can also assign the main master volume here and it works just fine even in HUI mode. Just remember to go into the midi remote to change controllers and careful what page your on when making changes. I have cc mapped the pads 102/109 and the rotary knobs 67/74 with master stereo Volume being 1/7 (fader 9) as standard. On the second controller I have not configured solo/mute transport or faders only knobs and pads and its a dream once you get your head around it all, took me a couple of weeks messing to get it working properly now I once again love my Impulse 61. Only negative is the DAW does not tell you what controller your on or mapping page but you get to know what page is what once you start using it
To anyone struggling with this (and whose as late to the firmware update party as me), I absolutely could not get it until I 1- Used a quality short USB cable plugged directly into the PC, 2- Made sure all other programs were closed (including DAW), 3- Changed MIDI-OX buffer settings to 128, 16 (from 256, 32) 4- changed MIDI-OX delays to 90 and 90 (from 60 and 60). Make sure the Impulse boots itself back up after the update. If you didn't, it failed. Luckily, it wont brick. Try again using longer delays and smaller buffers. (PS- You may want to factory reset between tries. Google Novation Impulse Factory Reset)
@@amonchhetri1053 i doubt its bricked, just get a nice 1ft or 3ft usb cable by Cable Creations or someone high quality. There is a factory reset option (hold shift, +, -, while plugging in usb, then find factory reset option. Google it for more info ) that may accomplish reverting the Impulse. I think i forgot to mention i resetted every try i did
@@amonchhetri1053Hi I answered you earlier but it appears my comment didnt go through. I said I doubt its bricked. Make sure to use a super HQ 1 or 3ft USB cable. You can factory reset the Impulse (just google Factory Reset Novation Impulse).

That's right. The HUI Firmware update shown here was the most recent release so your hardware should display '710' as the main firmware version if you have updated successfully

Using Impulse 49 via HUI with Cubase 10.5 Pro on Win 10. Works fine but not possible to assign the buttons which is a shame. With Reaper 6.x it doesn't want to use HUI, but acts as a simple Midi controller, so all buttons etc are assignable except the transport controls won't work properly. Overall very happy with the Impulse 49.
Man could you please tell me how you connected it to Reaper? I bought a used impulse recently and I new to midi keyboards. I watched videos and they only got me confused. I still didn't download any software and I use win10
I got it updated but on FL studio 21 I'm at a lost. It still works as a normal midi controller. ( do i need a special port, and wich 1 goes on Mackie?)

Are you using a Mac? Apologies for the delay in reply! As you may have already discovered, an audio interface is not required in order to use Impulse. Impulse is purely a software controller and does not output any audio.

I had this as well at first. Make sure that the usb port you conect to is not faulty and of the highest USB version possible. I connected to a USB 3.1 port but I suppose a 2.0 or higher would also work. I just think maybe on the older version it wouldn't work? It is worth a try at least :D

I'm having the same problem but my impulse keep turning off when my PC is on I try to rest it but it will not leave the exit screen this hui have me upsidedown right now
You will need to send the .syx file to Impulse using a utility like MIDI-OX. We cover that in the video, You shouldn't need to open the .syx file for any reason.

Are you still having an issue setting up your Impulse 49? I just picked up the Impulse 61 and HUI is working in Studio One V4. Do you need assistance?

When I put syx-file in midi-ox and send it, it says me that there isn’t enough memory. Help please

I m a beginner.. is it really necessary to have an audio interface with impulse 61 ? or it cn be directly connected to the Laptop? Awaiting replies.
Apologies for the delay in reply! As you may have already discovered, an audio interface is not required in order to use Impulse.

syx link won't open
