Do you know if there was ever a *traditional* (rite 1) office book?

I think you'd want to look for "Daily Office Book".
This is a two volume set (one for each year of the Lectionary) that includes Rites I and II, and the readings in RSV. That is the closest I think you are going to get without perhaps a self-published effort from Lulu or the sort. I owned this set once, and I do regret getting rid of it. Like I regret getting rid of most books when I do!
