My department had been tasked with handling all lost and found items. They were brought to our ER desk, logged, itemized, described, and bagged, very tedious.
Our genius shift supervisor read the policy as *EVERYTHING* found had to be treated as lost and found. Ballpoint pen caps, random buttons, et cetera. I waited until he had shorted our shift so he had to work the ER desk himself to cover, then pretended to find the filled cup. No patient sticker, must be lost, right? He was repulsed, asked if it was a urine sample, so I took off the lid, did a waft test toward my nose, put on a puzzled look, then took a swig. He freaked out. It was beautiful!
@@mbryson2899 I took a urinal one day before the end of my night shift and filled it with apple juice at home. Came back on my next shift, walking right into report with a full urinal in my hands, gulping it down. Needless to say I didn't get report until everyone else was finished, and I was sitting in the break room laughing my ass off.
I was waiting for the “well, since it’s a stray dog, you’ll have to get a course of rabies shots”.
Except I think it's now down to 2-3 (4?) shots instead of 13 like when I was young.
@@ginnyjollykidd Yes, definitely an improvement from a few decades ago. When I was a kid, adults would use the threat of a couple dozen shots in the belly to deter kids from messing with strange animals.

@@Lilyarmy299 if the dog does have rabies and you don't get shots you die. Simple as that. There is no cure (one case of miracle medical coma but still no official cure). So yeah, in context even 13 shots doesn't seem that bad.

I hope you realize how amazing you are yes depression takes a tole on the best of us but I hope you find the beauty in life other than just these skits im not saying you can’t like or even love these skits im just saying I hope you have more than just these skits keeping you alive a lot of people love you even thou they don’t show ur I hope you come to love urself as much as all the people that have you in there life’s do I promise you you have a purpose and ur so much better than the depression (and anxiety if you have it) tells you you are

This reminds me of going to the doctor with what they ended up officially listing as a "puncture wound". I was play-fighting with my dog, who was absurdly friendly to everyone, and hurt myself. I play-slapped her with my right hand as she was still dodging my left and I slapped my hand on to one of her canines. At the office, they asked how it happened and my response was "I accidentally slapped a sharp, non-metal object that my dog's saliva was on". The doctors pressed me on what happened, but eventually wrote it up as a puncture wound because "it's not really a bite if the dog doesn't even try to close its mouth".
My doggo's canine has done nothing more than scratched me and my idiot neighbours try to say that she's viscious. I've had a cop threaten to kick her. I told him he'd be paying the $75k for a new service dog out of his own pocket.

I love this. The laughs, then sweet sentiments, then more laughs. At an ER in '09, I had to report that my own dog accidentally ripped my lower lip in half, and it hadn't occurred to me, they were taking notes on breed, and possibly considering taking him. He was a one year old Boston, leaping for his leash, as I bent down to kiss him, two days before my sister's wedding. It happened in front of my young niece. As blood was gushing, all I could do was turn away and say, "Go get an adult." The ER lady fixed it so well, I barely have just a hint of a scar just under my lip, just a tiny lighter spot. She did miss the numbing shot at first, passing through my lower lip into my upper. I had to say, "Ummm.....? You missed!"
Now, going on 13 years later, my sister is dead from complications from her final (of five or so) cancer surgeries, for two different kinds of cancer, my husband died in front of me of his final heart attack, but our dog, Alistair, is still with me, and sleeps at my feet every night.
I'm so sorry for your losses. Please pet Alistair for me.

We once had a rescue dog whose previous owner had often kicked him, which we weren't told about. So one day he was trying to get into the trash and my mom just wen't "no! Stop that!" which was apparently enough to make him panic and bite her hard into her leg. She had to get the whole treatment and could barely walk for a whole week.
The funny part though? In Austria the doctor also always must report dog bites to the police. So a week later my mom got a letter that went "Dear miss B, you were hurt by the dog of owner mister B. This is a criminal charge. Do you want to pursue a lawsuit against him?". My mum obviously didn't want to sue my dad and told them so.
Fast forward five years and my dad has to get a criminal record for his new job application. And what do we find on there? "Charged with grievous bodily harm (lawsuit dropped)"
Boy, that was fun to explain to his future boss.
That seems incredibly idiotic, and can cost a lot of people their future.

Actually I find it only fair. People who can't control their dogs, in whatever situation and it comes to a biting, should be charged. Often they don't face any consequences which leads to more victims and eventually somebody gets killed.
Ouch, here it is investigated and in such a case, they will suggest training and then do another wellness check in a couple of months. If the dog takes to the training, the bite is recorded as a nip as a footnote, nothing more.
Bylaw does not want to harm the dog if it was a freak accident.
Not being told the dog was abused by the previous owner is wrong as well. It makes sense that they bit her it thought it was going to be kicked. It's hard to train a dog if you don't know what will set them off cause you aren't told about their past. And I'm not blaming the rescue place cause if they didn't know cause animal abuse is a criminal charge then of course the previous owner didn't tell them about it I'm sure
Steve you are SO good at demonstrating understanding and reassuring patients, while also informing them of significant information that they may not want to hear, but you deliver it in such a non-confrontational way. I really hope to emulate these characteristics with my patients, and people in general honestly. Thank-you!
I absolutely love the storylines between the staff. Austin is so cute with his innocent outlook on things, even if its drinking ice coffee from a urinal jug😆😆

We had a lot of dog bite situations at the pediatrics office I worked at-usually young kids pulling a tail or accidentally hurting the dog and the dog reacting. Most often they were warning bites that barely broke the skin and rarely bled but watching the parents freak out when we gave them the dog bite form to fill out (mandatory here) thinking that someone was going to put their family dog down was hard.
A person I used to be friends with and her brother had a scissor when they were playing. They ended up cutting their dogs tongue right in the middle. Another good reason not to leave kids and animals unattended.

Because dogs biting toddlers is so dangerous, and so well known here, we have a huge brewing tension between people who fight the county to keep their dog, and people who do home euthanasia, which can appear cruel. It's very sad, but rabies is extremely serious, as is a dog who thinks the baby is his enemy.
@@montananerd8244 My family (older generation) had a pretty simple policy on their animals. Mind you all of them were raised from pups with pretty okay training, and because of it they became great family pets- they bred dobermans but kept a few others until they passed from old age or someone really, really wanted them. If they were ever caught biting a child, you were to immediately euthanize without hesitation, go straight to the family, apologize in person and inform them the animal has been put down. We had a very neighbor to neighbor society and it was a less sue happy time. Thankfully it had never happened, but it did to their parents.
One has to be VERY comfortable with themselves to look like a doofus while drinking Ice coffee in a urinal bottle! -- These skits are funny... and I love the characters! Even the skits are hysterical, there is always a very touching element to them, especially if Austin is in it!
This one kills me a bit... Ben is always such a tough guy but honestly, every once in a while we get one of these videos and it reminds you that he is a soft guy who really does want to help, not only illness or injury, but also the emotional aspects of care.
Had a neighbours dog bit me once. A black lab. They let their two kids walk the dogs, but one sister left the one with a broken arm to hold both. Couldn't keep control of the one . He was trying to grab my kick boxing belt, bit my leg instead.
Mild bruising, didn't break my clothes. 8 hours I'm A&E later, sent home with a plaster.
We had to talk to the police, qnd 8 year old me said i wanted them to put a muzzle order on the dog (not in those words), because that is something legally doable here. The dog would have to wear a muzzle if out of the house.
The police refused and berated us and just asked us if we wanted the dog to be put down. I said no ofc
So my dad took me to the ladies house and we told her we wouldn't press charges as long as she muzzles her dog out of the house. She cried. Never let her daughters walk the dogs again either. Dog always had a muzzle on after that.
I have a dog with a bite history, little chihuahua-dachshund mix. He's a terror. We found a trainer after he bit me in the face, since obviously we weren't meeting his needs. She worked with him, gave us homework, we worked with him, and we also got him checked out with his vet, who put him on a very low dose of antianxiety meds because it seems like a lot of his aggression is just built up stress from...well, being a little stressed out dog. He doesn't have even a little bit of chill in him. He's so much better with his trainer's help, and I'm grateful that she mentioned the possibility of anxiety, since his treatment for that he has not just calmed down but become more friendly, less shaky. Still quite wary and not at all what you might consider friendly, but now it's more balanced. Seems weird to give a dog psych meds, but it has made a huge change in his quality of life, and therefore also ours. He's still an absolute dick, that is just part of his personality. A big part. But he doesn't bite and he's not so aggressive, which perhaps was partly defensive. Poor little guy.
I had a weenier dog that I got when I was 11 that got hit by a car, fast forward 15 years and he was 17 y/o with pins in his hips with arthritis and old. My sister was visiting with her kids and I was in my bathroom and I heard him yelp, I yelled for my sister to find out what was wrong with him and if it was one of the kids to get them away from him. He had never ever bite anyone but I always worried about someone stepping on him and he reacting. Well, my sister not doing what I asked, let her 3 year old use Bam Bam as a balance beam to stand up right as I was walking out of the bathroom and he reacted. He bite her right on her arm where she was pushing on his bad hip. He barely drew blood and she didn't need stitches, but we still took her to the doctor. But when the doctor started doing the whole dangerous dog song and dance I politely informed her that I would consider my sister more of a danger than my dog and that as long as he was alive he would never be alone with a kid again because I wasn't taking the chance they would ever try to put him down. Bam Bam lived to be 20 and never bite another person. He was the best dog. I still miss him today. My mom gave him to me right after my Grandma passed away and he went to college with me, when I got married, and my husband joined the military.

There was a time we went on vacation, she had always been friendly with everyone to the point my mom had looked into seeing if she could be a therapy dog for my grandma. But I guess we hadn't exposed her to enough variety of people when she was younger, because while we were in this lobby of a hotel a little girl wanted to pet her. Kid was like maybe four. Pepper freaked out at the girl's excitement and hid behind my legs. I am always so grateful she's more of a flight than a fight. Pepper let me hold her while I instructed the little girl to be very gentle, but since then I've always been very careful with her around kids. They're just too much wild energy for her. Especially now she's an older girl and having those doxie-typical hip issues. (she's a bit more snippy now, but only when in severe pain which she's got medicine for now) But she's always been the sweetest with us adults. Helped me and others in the family through some tough times.
Sadly a lot of dogs get blamed for basically having a normal reaction to a child abusing them or treating them like a toy. So many good doggos end up in shelters or put down because the owners had a child and didn't monitor a literal baby/toddler around a literal animal, as common sense would dictate, or teach the kids as they grow how to behave with animals.
Now if only you had as much compassion for a literal child as you do a nasty beast the world would be so much better
@@AppreciativeViewer you do realize that kids learning how to act around animals isn't a 1 time lesson? How about you train your fucking monsters to not bite. A kid bopping your stupid mutt isn't a death penalty offense, but your dog can make it one in about 2 seconds...

I got bit on my leg when I was just nine years old. It was pretty bad. It was a stray dog that was in my neighborhood... The other kids did mean stuff to it and when I was innocently walking by, it attacked me

Same here. I was on my way to kindergarten and stopped to pet a dog. Some boys threw rocks at it and it bit the nearest person, just a reaction. It bit me on my face. I got the day off school and was taken to the doctor. They found the dog and thank God it was up on its rabies vaccinations.
I like how they just argue and Austin is just chillin with his coffee.
Honestly, I was the kid who got bit by the dog who'd had too many second chances, and I came an inch away from losing an eye, and found out years later that I should've had rabies prophylaxis too but they lied about a vaccination record. I also overcame my anxiety about dog bites and now work at an animal shelter with dogs, but I still say this-- don't give out passes. Plenty of good boys deserving homes who haven't ever broken skin.

Dogs rarely bite for no reason, it's often down to owners doing something wrong, I get that many people would just take the dog to be PTS, but is it really fair to blame a dog for what it's owners did, that's like blaming a kid who has been abused for then lashing out at someone 😢

I was trying to greet my dad's girlfriend's dog who I'd met before, that same dog had gotten in trouble earlier that week for tearing down the neighbor's calf. that dog died that same night, and I didn't feel bad even as a child with a strong special interest adoration for animals.

Seeing stern Ben show a softer side, these skits are turning into their own continuity. They definitely beat most medical dramas on TV now. Also, it's good to see you try to handle topics like dogs, where people might get mixed up in the morality of how to proceed

This was a very compassionate way to have a serious conversation about pet ownership and responsibilities. I almost started getting choked up because he was both harsher and empathetic, imo, than Judge Judy. Thanks, hopefully many will get this. My dog, my responsibility.
My brother-in-law got a nasty dog bite because he was stupid and tried to break up a fight between his dog and a neighbor's dog that got in through the fence. Both were Rottweilers. Neither of the dogs were harmed at all, even though the fight was brutal (rotties have thick skin). My brother-in-law though... his hand got severely mangled. I'm typically okay around blood and injuries, but I gagged a bit when I saw it. He REFUSED to go to the ER though because he was certain they'd put his dog down. I would hope that they would understand that the dog wasn't actually attacking a person on purpose, it was just trying to defend its territory from another dog. His hand ended up healing okay, although the scars were nasty and it got infected pretty bad. Long story short, DO NOT TRY TO BREAK UP A DOG FIGHT WITH YOUR BARE HANDS!
*edit to add that this isn't about the breed of dog necessarily. Just pointed out the breed because of their bite strength. My brother-in-law's dog is the sweetest thing ever.
I broke up a "fight" (mauling) between a random fighting dog that got loose and tried to unalive my shih tzu. I got pretty scratched up but was able to avoid bites because the thing was only focused on my boy.
Anyway, I got it off him by eventually sticking my knuckle out while making a fist and punching that mufkr hard af right in its booty hole, repeatedly. It saved my boys life and I highly recommend.
Used to run a rescue and my vet shared a great way to break up a fight. Grab the hind legs of the aggressor (or the biggest) lift and walk backwards quickly. Feels awkward, but works perfectly. Totally disorients them and keeps teeth away from you. That usually breaks their focus and gives you the chance to separate the dogs. If the other dog continues, you grabbed the wrong dog! Just change sides and repeat! 👍😆

@@whocares269 I carry dog repellant to prevent the fight from happening in the first place. I don't want either dog to get hurt. Yes, I would do anything to protect my dog, but the other dog is just being a dog, the muthfkr is the human who allowed that dog to get loose.
@@WhiteFamNFChristmas I've also heard of using a water hose (to spray them) or breaking open and throwing an smelling salts capsule between them, or throwing a blanket over them and then pulling one away.
As a victim of a dog attack and a huge dog lover, I was honest and our county really dropped the ball. They tried a couple of times to contact the owner and then closed the case, even though I had witnesses to where the dog lived. We lived right down the street from a high school and an elementary school.

I found a stray dog in the middle of the road one time. I think it was abandoned because it was laying on the side of the road. I went to go get it so it didn't get hit and it bit me. I don't blame it and wasn't mad. I gave it to a rescue and she went to a good home. Went to the hospital and they cleaned it, did x ray, couldn't really report it, and got told that where I live there wasn't bats so I didn't need rabies shots or anything, which I find odd because I live in the desert with a bunch of coyotes and mountain lions. But I was just happy the dog was ok and is now living a happy life.
Dude it's not just bats that spread rabies, lots of animals do including coyotes, possums, racoons... Essentially ALL mammals.
You had me laughing nearly spitting out my water and then going 🥺 and then laughing again at the end. I really think you should consider writing a sit-com based in the ER with all these vignettes. I work in an ER and I'm nearly halfway done with nursing school, hoping to get hired on in the ED when I graduate. A show that covers all the interactions between techs, nurses, docs, HUCs, social workers, on-call docs, pts, families, food service, environmental services, etc would be awesome and relatable to so many more people than just the typical show about MDs.

In most municipalities a dog bite has to be reported to animal control and sometimes to the city public health services. If the dog has a rabies vaccination, then it is usually allowed to be quarantined at the owners home for ten days. It has to be examined by a vet at the ten day mark to assure it is healthy. If the dog dies within the ten day period, then it has to be tested for rabies.
If it doesn’t have a rabies vaccine then many municipalities insist it be quarantined at the animal shelter or a veterinary clinic for ten days. It is normally given a rabies vaccine at the end of the ten days and the owner is fined for not having the dog vaccinated and they have to pay for the ten day boarding.
In many countries throughout the world rabies is rampant in stray dogs and is the primary method in which people acquire rabies and die. Because the US has such a high vaccination rate in dogs and cats, rabies in dogs is extremely rare- and we want to keep it that way. Vaccinate your pets against rabies!! It is a horrible way for a human or pet to die!!
About 25,000 people die from rabies every year- the majority is acquired through dog bites.
I dont really understand how Rabies is still a thing, since most people/animals die from Rabies after awhile, I mean you’d think Rabies would die out on its own?
@@XFizzlepop-Berrytwist the rabies virus infects the brain and causes animals to become more aggressive or exhibit abnormal behaviors. The virus is passed through saliva. Bats with rabies will not eat the insects that they normally eat but will bite other animals, bats, and humans. Rabid skunks and foxes which are normally solitary are more likely to be active during the day and get closer to other animals or people. Other animals or people are more likely to interact with them because they are slower and are not hiding. Therefore the animal or person gets bit and rabies spreads.
Bat rabies is the most common form of rabies in the United States. If a person comes down with rabies in the US, they have usually acquired it while traveling overseas or by being bitten by a bat.
If you ever find a bat in your house have it caught and tested for rabies. Rabid bats will bite sleeping people and those people will not even know they’ve been bitten because bat teeth are so tiny- but just that little bit of saliva and tiny bite can pass the virus on and cause death.
Well, we used to have a high pet vaccination rate. Then anti-vaxxers happened. 😬

I got bitten by my own chihuahua in the face twice. Once I went to ER for stitches. They were very reassuring and understanding and took great care of my wounds. You can barely tell the scar unless you stare and put a magnifying glass to my face. The second time I went to my primary doctor days after the incident. I didn’t need no stitches. I just wanted to get something in case it got infected cause I saw something in the news about someone who lost all their limbs because their dog licked their wounds. Anyway, my primary dr. made me report my own dog. I had animal control show up at my house and quarantine my dog for a week. They also warned me that if it happened again, they might seize my dog and even put down. I learned my lesson. It hasn’t happened again but if it did, I wouldn’t tell medical personnel. I never went back to my primary dr.

I’m a nurse and I have a very dear dog that is ‘one of those breeds’. I worked hard to teach her ‘good manners’. On our many daily walks, I have no problem with other folks crossing to the other side of the street to avoid contact. Whatever makes it work. She has worked in many environments with sirens, screaming people and other kinds of chaos. This dog has been taught ‘good manners’. Every time I’ve given the command for her to COME, she immediately refocuses and returns to me. No matter what bully squirrel is tormenting her. Just saying. There are not really any bad dogs, just bad owners.

My first day ever in triage I had a dog bite, followed by a human bite, followed by an imminent delivery. What a profession. Also, rhabdo coffee.
I got bitten by our shepherd collie mix multiple times a week. She was 18 when she died and was biting me because I was helping her to her feet and it hurt. She had no teeth so my arms were just covered in bruises for months before she died. If anyone had reported her for biting me I'd have been devastated. It wasn't her fault or acting out. If I had spinal arthritis and it hurt when people helped me move I'd be grumpy too.
My latest rescue is a pitbull and when he catches me with his teeth while tug of war he freaks out even though he doesn't even leave a mark. He doesn't want to hurt anyone at all and is devastated when he leaves a scratch with a claw or a little pink bitemark or makes my leg fall asleep because he's actually 70lbs and not a lap dog.
You're suggesting that ERs may not report rare out of the ordinary instances warms my heart because I know some people would report my good boy just for looking scary when he's really just a giant cuddle doofus.
I’ve had a similar experience, the nurse made sure it was my butt of a dementia suffering dog who never met kids or left the basement without a leash(the accident happened because the lights were turned off somehow, never again) and I just got stitches and rabies shots since he was vaccinated.
But I’ll never forget that nurse, she saved his life, I didn’t have him for maybe a year or two longer but I treasured him.

As the owner of a really good dog for the most part who also happens to be aggressive when strangers come near me, I feel this. He is a work in progress but he's a baby when it's people he knows. We're trying, I've been bit and I will 100% take a bite if it means someone else doesn't but the last thing I want is someone else to get hurt. But also to see anything happen to him would kill me.
I've had rescue dogs that were aggressive toward strangers. Dogs are very keyed into your emotions and any nervousness on your part will be a trigger for your dog. Stay calm, watch his body language (ears, tail, eyes, hair) and get his attention every time a stranger approaches and teach him the command "friend". If you are attentive, you will catch the first signs of aggression and tell him "no" firmly and get him to sit. Then you can keep a hand on him to let him know that you are the protector and the alpha. After a few times he will learn what you expect and remain calm.
If you haven't already started working with a trainer, please reach out for professional help. If your dog is redirecting bites onto you during reactivity moments, that is a big deal and definitely not something you should have to go through on the regular. There is a LOT that can be done to help aggressive and reactive dogs, but the sooner you start working with a reputable trainer, the better.
@@WhiteFamNFChristmasthe alpha theory has been disproven & debunked many times. Everything else you said, well, don't force your dog to do what it's not comfortable with. Build up the trust, teach them you'll protect them, but that doesn't mean they have to interact w/strangers. It's ok if they don't want to as long as they aren't aggressive. Positive reinforcement (R+ only methods) & setting your dog up for success by making him feel his boundaries are protected by his human get way better results. As you pointed out, it's about positive association & not putting your dog in uncomfortable situations. Dogs don't speak our language. Discomfort needs to be recognized, respected, & alleviated long before teeth get involved. Humans usually need far more training than the dog, but the pupper pays the price

This happened to me back in Nov 2022. My sweet rescue dog got very scared that day by a huge wood chipper outside our window. While I was trying to comfort her and get her away from the window, I moved too fast. She bit down on my left hand and badly injured it. Broken bones and my ring finger, which had a ring on it at the time, rotated completely under my middle finger and they had to do surgery and pin it in place. I was a medic long enough to know what happens to dogs who bite. While I was in the ER the nurse started the report and I fully lied about it. Said I didn’t know the dog and that it took off. I even gave a false location. I’m not letting them kill my dog for being traumatized and scared. She’s no danger to anyone. We live alone and she’s leashed and harnessed anytime we go outside. If I hadn’t moved so fast while she was scared it would never have happened. I knew better but in the moment I was just so worried for her and I was also freaked out by the loudness of that wood chipper. We were not given notice there would be anything going off like that right by it window. They are supposed to give me notice anytime something like that is scheduled and they failed. I have severe cptsd and my dog was born into a fight house where she, a runt, was used as a bait dog. I rescued her when she was 4 months old. She’s now 6. It still breaks my heart to think of how frightening she was that day.

I worked in a town where there’s this horrible husband and wife. The husband was worse. Wife did daycare in home. They owned a pit bull. The husband was horrible and very abusive to the dog, which in turn made the dog mean. He was home when all this happened. But he lied and said he wasn’t and wife took all the blame.
They let the daycare kids play in the back yard with an angry, and severally abused pit bull. The dog attacked a 4 year old in the neck. Took half of it out. The little girl fought for 24 hours before she lost her fight and passed away. I was working at a gas station when this all happened. Life flight came out.
But after the event, before cops arrived. The husband walked into the gas station and bought a case of beer. Telling everyone what happened like you were describing a trip to the store. He said his dog ripped the throat outta this little girl and he was on his way to put the dog down because he knew cops would make him. He was also laughing and joking with random customers after he stopped again on the way back. One of those random people happened to be news guy. The news guy was shocked when husband left and we told news guy who he was. Did I mention husband was completely drunk when he came in. He was.
No he got off without consequence. Wife spent jail time. Oh, but karma wasn’t done with husband. I’m not sure if wife was out of jail or not when this happened. But husband was caught in bed with someone else’s wife. We’ll call her husband hero husband. Hero husband found his wife having an affair with jerk husband and shot him in the head. Now jerk husband is dead. Sadly it took a few years after the event for karma to get him. But karma found him in the end.
Karma is real. And hero husband has been labeled a hero in the town. That little girl was 4 years old! Horrible story but very true. Yes, hero husband was charged for his actions. Sadly karma doesn’t write get outta jail free cards.
My mother would've shot the pit herself if that was me. Then gone after the owners

Goddammit...and it's stories like that that get spread without any of the details like the dog being abused, and then pit bulls get a horrible reputation as a result. Studies show they don't bite more than any other breed. They're just really muscular, so it does more damage. But we doesn't punish ppl who, let's say punch someone in the face-we don't punish them more or less based on how big they are.
Chihuahuas are the dog breed that has been deemed the most aggressive. But its the big babies who get the bad rep

I feel equally judgmental of the parents and “caretakers” to have a pitbull around small children. I’m really not impressed with in-home daycare in general. I know a toddler who got 2nd degree burns from a curling iron left plugged in with the bathroom door open. They were lucky I didn’t live in the same state I would have lost it. I don’t even have kids it’s just so easy not to be a fucking dumbass. A dog is a million times worse. State lines wouldn’t matter to me then. Dogs are less important than people. All critters are. No one cares how much “Mark” likes his American Feral Pitbull Dupe named Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell can eat dirt quickly, and I’m shocked that “Mark” wormed his way out of punishment and just let his wife take the fall instead. Rest with an eternal charlie horse Mark.
Love the skit, but you missed one major question- Is the dog up to date on it's rabies vaccine? (Once you established it wasn't a stray).

@@TheWordN3rd That is literally my comment- after they established that the dog wasn't a stray, he needed to ask if the dog was up to date on it's rabies vaccine. As someone who has gone to the ER with a dog bite it is the VERY FIRST question they asked me.

@@megan5867 Nope- I'm a vet tech and am already vaccinated for rabies (not all vet professionals are though, I had to have it for school). Also, the dog that bit me was up to date. I was bit at work so no authorities were involved- it is considered a high stress environment for the animal so it generally isn't held against the animal and it was a relatively minor bite. It was near a joint, so my boss made me go in.
I've actually started seeing these characters as different people! LOL
When I was a young teenager, I was bit by a dog while walking around a church. It was a neighbor’s dog, and the only way I got it to stop was by going on the playground and getting the gate between me and the dog. I didn’t want anything bad to happen to the dog, but when I leaned it had a history of aggressive behavior and I realized that about mid thigh (where I was bit) on me would be about the height of a face of a small child that could be playing in that area, I was more okay with them reporting it.

I have seen & assisted with children having facial reconstructive surgery after a dog bite!
It is devastating for the infant/child, terrifying for the parents, and upsetting for everyone caring for the little ones.
Noses, eyes, mouths, ears, and scalp can be affected.
Please, if you own a dog, learn how to introduce children to your dog safely.
Parents, stay well within an arm's reach and keep your attention focused on their interaction. Teach your child how to gently pet a dog. Take the child's hand in yours and slowly stroke the fur, repeating the word "gentle" --- it should go without saying --- ASK the dog's owner if s/he will allow your child to approach and touch the dog. Never presume!!
If bitten, immediately take your child to the nearest Children's hospital; pediatric cosmetic surgeons know how to best treat bites, and perform reconstructive repairs.
Injuries from dog bites are horrible and traumatizing for everyone! 💕

@@jamesmccomb9525 Keeping children and animals apart at all times is unrealistic, we live in a world that is full of both pets and children, often living in the same household. Better to make sure adults are present and ready to intervene when the two inevitably come in contact. Unfortunately there's too many people who delude themselves into believing only 'bad' kids or dogs get hurt and so don't provide appropriate supervision because their kid/dog would never do that, it's just unfortunate that it's the kids and/or the dog who suffer the consequences not the dumb adult.

As someone who had an "aggressive" dog I appreciated this we put in measures so he couldn't hurt others even though none of his bites were serious enough to land someone in the er. I still love and miss him (died of natural causes, not being put down)

Years ago my elderly, going-blind, 80lb dog named "Zombie" mistakenly bit my leg one time and sent me to the E.R. with a torn upper right calf muscle. Got a giggle out of the nurses when I told them the dogs name & they got to write "bitten by Zombie" on my paperwork. (He blindly rushed at the person standing close to me, whom he hated & decided was a threat to me. I didn't see him coming from behind us. Due to his bad eyesight he got ahold of my leg instead. He felt so bad afterward that he retired himself from guard dog duty & spent the rest of his days relaxing in the house & tolerating my pet chickens. He died of heart failure in my arms on March 5th 2022. I'd let him bite me again if it meant I could have one more day with him. R.I.P my best friend Zombie.

ED people are cut from a very special cloth. I love it! 🤪 We (the ED crew I worked with) never drank from urinals but I did bring in red punch in fake blood bags one Halloween. It was all good until day shift arrived & we were “reported” & later “verbally warned” b/c a pt saw us (while trying to sneak into our break room to swipe food😡)

I had a full blown argument with the sheriff's department when my dog bit me. I refused to give her up. That deputy still remembers that night and gives me hell Everytime we cross paths. That was over 20 years ago

As someone who works with dogs for a living, no, that is complete and utter nonsense. Dogs biting out of aggression is not the norm. The vast majority of bites are out of fear and typically do not require medical attention. Dogs aren’t that dangerous and I encourage everyone to actually look up the stats. For example, you are more likely to die by falling in the shower (even when excluding seniors) than you are from a dog attack.
Bless you for making these so full of pathos. I just watched the one with the old man who wanted to go outside and it hit me so hard in the feels. You're doing so much good with these. I look forward to each and every one. Keep up the good work.
Just my FYI as a vet student. Outside of very specific state and city laws, the national protocols under the AVMA only require euthanasia in dogs showing symptoms of rabies infection. If they are otherwise healthy then they must quarantine and get vaccinated. Always best to check the local laws first. By the baby doesn't always go straight to being put down. Unprovoked aggression and neurological signs will be euthanized. Territorial/defensive/dominance aggression does not equate to clinical signs. A good way to avoid the scare however, is keeping those rabies vaccinations up to date!

Ikajo, fyi from a vet tech. If Kristin lives in the US, it is not rabies free. It's rare, but it is out there. Almost always in wild animals, but in domestic animals too.

we have shorkizu (sweetest old girl you ever met) When she was several years younger, when i was about 12 or 13 we moved to a new house and our husky and coco (the shorkizu) hated each other. The first thing to happen in that house? A dog fight between the husky and coco. It was just me, my sister, and my mother at the house at the time. Dad was still at our old house getting things packed away. I tried to intervene and separate coco from the husky but when i grabbed coco she ended up spinning around and latching onto my left ring finger and ripped my finger up pretty bad. It was bleeding a lot but it didn't need stitches. I had learned that when coco fights she (much like a shark when eating) will close her eyes to protect her eyes and just bite at anything that touches her. Mom managed to get them seperated and the husky was put in the backyard to blow off steam while my sister took coco to her room to check her over for any injuries while my mother took me to the hospital. We told them i was bit by our dog while trying to stop a dog fight and i only learned about a year ago that the hospital reported the dog bite and we had like cops or animal control or something show up at the house while my sister and i were at school and asked if our parents wanted to put coco down for biting me. Obviously they said no because it wasn't her fault i just didn't know that i should have gone for grabbing and yeeting the husky outside instead of trying to grab the smaller dog. Years later when i was left home alone at like 19 or so while the rest of the family was at my older sister's wedding (i wanted to stay behind to make sure our animals were safe cuz we also had macaws and idk how one would board macaws in rural alabama) the husky and our golden retriever/great Pyrenees mix went after coco. She's an old woman at this point so doesn't have much energy to fight back so i through everything into the floor. Headphones hit a wall, xbox controller batteries came out as the controller hit the floor, everything. I got up and just grabbed coco and held her above my head. The husky tried to jump to get her but stopped because she knows better than to bite her people. Regardless the big girls got put outside (in our fenced in yard where they can't run off and go missing) for a couple hours while i calmed down from the rush and made sure coco was ok. She's old and blind now so they big girls don't try to fight her anymore. But we never could figure out why they were fighting in the first place. We thought it was food motivated so we started to feed them all separately and didn't have food in the bowls when they were all around each other but they would just start fighting if one of them looked at the other weird. It was ridiculous.

My uncles 3 pitbulls went after my kitten.. my fingers ended up bitten and mangled in the fray... I put rubbing alcohol on my hands, wrapped it themnin a towel and spent 3 days at my friends recovering from shock. Uncle blamed my cat even though the dogs weren't suppose to be in the house.... few years later: one of the dogs bit my uncle's hand-, barely drew blood- dog was put down .. like wtf
Those pitties weren't socialized properly. What bummer! The pitties that I have interacted with were kind and sweet. I mean for sure don't stick your hand in their mouths, but these guys were almost shy and very affectionate once they knew you.
I was bit by my friend's dog once. We were sledding down this small snow hill in the neighborhood. He brought his dog, it was on a leash though. This one time I went down the hill, his dog ran after me, and the leash slipped out of his hand. I was bit on the arm, but my jacket and sweatshirt were thick enough so that the dog didn't puncture my skin (I got a checkup the next day ofc). 4 months later, my friend and I got off the bus from school. I was walking with him to his house to hang out and talk as it was his last day in the neighborhood, he was moving out. We arrive at his house and see his dad packing stuff into the moving truck. Their dog was also there.. without the leash. As I move closer to the house, the dog stares at me, and runs after me. There I am, running around, screaming like a little girl, being chased by my friend's dog. My friend was telling me not to scream and run, while his dad tries to call the dog back. I was running like my life depended on it. I felt the dog's mouth closing in on my leg, and ran faster. I got away, quickly said bye to my friend, and just ran home. Now, my fear of dogs has gotten bigger.
A lot of hospital staff take the urinals to free slushie day at 711. Lol! They are huge and hold plenty! And if they are clean and brand new out of the package it works great!

I hated telling the er that I was bitten/attacked. It was a neighbors dog that was running loose and I didn't want it to get hit. But he felt he could make it on his own with the other friendly dog he was with. But because no one would ever answer the door at the house, I ended up not only with 18 stitches but having to get rabies vaccines as well. I worried all the time after that about the many kids that used that sidewalk as a way to and from school.

I’ve been bitten by a dog twice. Once was a stranger’s, and once was my Aunt’s. The stranger I didn’t care, I just went home, cleaned it, put antiseptic cream and a bandage and it healed with no problem. But my Aunt’s dog, that thing is Vicious. He’s bitten, or tried to bite, literally Every Single Person he’s ever met, and one day he nailed me right in the face. It took everything I had not to report it, and honestly the only reason I didn’t was because my Grandma was the co-owner, and it would break her heart, even though the dog has also bitten her multiple times.
I am currently recovering from a really bad pit bull attack. The neighbors promised to get rid of the dog, but he is still there. So, now I have to worry if a child will be next, since they don't seem to care.
it may take a long time to find a suitable owner, really sad how many Pitbulls are owned by people who have no business having one, and then get labeled as a hyper-aggressive breed.
@@yorkleroy5605 they were supposed to give him back to his previous owner. I tried to pet their little dog and he thought I was going to hurt it, so he attacked. It's scary to think of a child doing the same thing. I have deep puncture wounds all over my arms, hands and legs. Surrendering him to a shelter would be better than this happening again. I am a major animal lover, so it had to be really bad for me to say that.

@@lizzyannlady434 No! I am losing sleep & having panic attacks worrying about it. But, there is nothing legal I can do, that I am aware of. I plan to call them tomorrow and threaten to sue if they don't get rid of him by Monday. I don't think it will have any effect as they probably don't have money anyways.
